PREPARATORY ACADEMY

2

JULY 2018

YouthBuild Preparatory Academy is a place where young people are introduced to the greatness that lives within: to engage education in a meaningful way, build healthy relationships; and be prepared to take on the future opportunities that await them upon graduation. Since 1997 we have disrupted the ever-growing dropout crisis by re-engaging those young people who have left school before earning a high school diploma. YouthBuild is a place where the word love is not a four-letter word. We realize that many of our young people have not experienced the love of the community, school and people in authority. We are unapologetically comprehensive in our delivery of services to our young people in whom we are 100% invested. When asked, how is YouthBuild so successful, our response is simple. As a community we are engaged in the united struggle, (the opening line of the YouthBuild Philosophy) it merely means that at YouthBuild it is not only the young people who are on the pursuit of excellence but it is the WE that are working towards their goals. We are there to celebrate the successes and it is us who are there to offer a comforting hand in the midst of the struggle. With your investment in our work, we will expand our YouthBuild Family to engage the many young people who otherwise would find themselves involved in the criminal justice system, public welfare or worse.

Your support brings you into the YouthBuild Family. Together, we can help young people earn a high school diploma while learning valuable job readiness skills. We can continue to offer early exposure to the post-secondary experience. We provide construction training and we place people in jobs. We can also the quality of life for every young person who enters our doors. In the future, YouthBuild would like to provide onsite mental health support services as we have lost two students to self-inflicted harm in the school year of 2017/2018 and your support can make this happen. YouthBuild works. We know this because our young people tell us so. Our data speaks for itself. Throughout this report, you will see how YouthBuild is transforming lives not only of its participant but the lives in the Rhode Island urban core. With your investment in our work, we will expand our YouthBuild Family to engage the many young people who otherwise would find themselves involved in the criminal justice system, public welfare or worse.
