YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

President Emerita, Marin Villages
Loulie Hyde Sutro is a lifelong community leader, nonprofit founder, and advocate for service. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, she was inspired early by her mother’s volunteer work with at-risk children, sparking a commitment to service that shaped her life. After studying sociology in New England and beginning her career in human resources, Loulie made a bold move to San Francisco, where she became a consultant and curriculum director for the American Red Cross Youth Division. There, she developed leadership programs for students across the city and discovered her own strengths as a creative and effective leader.
After raising three children, Loulie remained deeply engaged in civic life through nonprofit boards, writing, and public service. In 2008, at age 73, she founded Marin Villages, an innovative nonprofit supporting older adults who wish to age at home. Now President Emerita, Loulie continues to inspire community connection and purposeful aging.

Mental Health Liaison, San Rafael Police Department
Lynn Murphy is a counselor, educator, and community advocate whose work centers on compassion, teamwork, and social justice. Born in Salem, Massachusetts and raised on Long Island, Lynn was shaped by public education, a lifelong love of sports, and the resilience of her parents—especially her mother, who modeled independence and strength while living with cerebral palsy. Lynn attended Columbia University, where she played four years of varsity soccer and served as team captain.
After a career teaching and coaching soccer in Los Angeles, Lynn returned to graduate school, earning a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Her professional path led her to the YWCA and ultimately to the San Rafael Police Department, where she serves as Marin County’s only mental health liaison focused on people experiencing homelessness. Lynn is also the co-founder of Seeds of Hope, a thriving community initiative bringing connection, resources, and dignity to hundreds of people in need.

Board Chair, Marin City Health and Wellness Centers
Nancy Jo Johnson has dedicated her career and volunteer service to advancing equity, promoting social justice, and eliminating bias in housing, health care, employment, and education. A native of Marin County, Nancy is a widowed mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother whose commitment to service is rooted in her Christian faith and early experiences in Marin City and the segregated South.
As a young woman, Nancy participated in voter registration efforts during the Civil Rights era, working across Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. Her professional career included roles as a social services eligibility worker, licensed real estate professional, affordable housing advocate, and later as Assistant Public Housing Manager with the Marin Housing Authority, where she also served as a Section 8 and Quality Housing Specialist.
Nancy has held numerous leadership roles on boards and commissions, including the Marin City Community Development Corporation, Marin Grassroots Leadership Network, Human Rights Commission, and Marin City Community Service District. Throughout her life, she has been a steadfast advocate for dignity, representation, and justice for all.

Development Chair, Board of Trustees, Marin Ballet
Nancy Thelen Rehkopf is a lifelong Marin resident, arts advocate, and organizational leader whose work has strengthened the county’s cultural landscape for more than three decades. Raised in San Rafael in a family deeply committed to the arts, Nancy studied piano, ballet, and visual art before earning a degree in Organizational Behavior from Stanford University. She began her career at the San Francisco Symphony and went on to a 30-year career in marketing and leadership roles at Wells Fargo and Charles Schwab.
Nancy has applied her professional expertise to nonprofit arts organizations throughout Marin, serving in leadership roles with Marin Ballet, Marin Symphony, Youth in Arts, Marin Open Studios, and the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). As Executive Director of MarinMOCA, she guided the museum through the COVID years, increasing revenue by nearly 50% and expanding free and community-based programs. Known as a collaborative team-builder, Nancy focuses on sustainability, access, and arts education for underserved communities.

President, Friends of the Marin County Free Library
Virginia Schultz is a lifelong Northern California resident, community leader, and dedicated advocate for public education and libraries. Born in San Francisco to hardworking parents who valued self-reliance and gratitude, Virginia graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in chemistry and began her career at Chevron Research. After starting a family with her husband of 56 years, Bill Schultz, Virginia devoted herself to volunteer leadership in her children’s schools.
Her service included roles as PTA president, 14th District PTA President representing Marin and Sonoma Counties, and as an elected member— and president—of the Novato Unified School District Board during a pivotal school funding campaign. Virginia later became deeply involved
with the Friends of the Marin County Free Library, serving as president and as treasurer for multiple successful library funding measures, including a 2022 measure that passed with 77% voter approval. Known for leading by example, encouragement, and gratitude, Virginia continues to strengthen community institutions that enrich lives across Marin.

Help celebrate the extraordinary women who have shaped Marin County by tuning in and sharing with your friends and family.
On Thursday, March 26, with the support of Dr. Denise Lucy, Class of 2011, Your YWCA will host an Honoree panel discussion at Dominican University that will focus on the trailblazing history of women in education, business, and community service in Marin. All Marin Women’s Hall of Fame guests will receive an email invitation.
Founded in 1987, the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame honors the achievements of Marin women, preserves their stories, educates the public and inspires the continued achievements of women and girls.
The Hall of Fame was co-founded by AAUW, the Marin Women’s Commission, and YWCA. Before the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame, virtually no records of women’s achievements had been documented in Marin County.
Since 2013, YWCA has proudly stewarded the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame. In its mission to eliminate racism and empower women, YWCA seeks to ensure that a historical record of the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame Honorees exists for future generations that documents not only successes, but also represents a diverse sisterhood of women supporting each other, standing together and moving the needle on progress for all women. We are proud of our commitment to honor a broad spectrum of women by showcasing a diverse cross-section of races, ethnicities, ages and fields.

The Marin Women's Hall of Fame was co-founded in 1987 by YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley is proud to present the Marin Women's Hall of Fame on an annual basis, preserving the legacy set forth through the partnership of the founding organizations.
