CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF HEALING AND INNOVATION

The Boyer-Bryan West Tower

One year ago, Williamson Medical Center opened the doors to a new chapter in care — and what a beautiful transformation it has been.

The Boyer-Bryan West Tower was purposefully designed to reflect the excellence of our regional health system and to serve our growing community for generations to come — advancing patient care and supporting our dedicated sta every step of the way. From state-of-the-art equipment to thoughtfully designed spaces for every stage of healing, this tower represents the best of who we are and where we’re headed.

Every detail — from our spacious OB rooms and renovated NICU, to our advanced Cardiac Center with cutting-edge EP and catheterization labs — was shaped by the voices of nurses, physicians, architects and patients. It’s more than a building; it’s a space where care teams collaborate seamlessly, where families feel supported, and where patients experience the comfort and confidence they deserve.

With expanded units, private consult spaces, and bright, modern design throughout, this environment continues to lift the spirit of everyone who walks through our doors — enhancing collaboration, enriching patient experiences, and fostering healing in every corner.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to one incredible year — and many more to come.

SUMMERTIME Sweet, Sweet

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”
— CHARLES BOWDEN

Hello everyone. It's here! My favorite time of year.

We are excited to share our "Summer" issue, and it makes me think about TIME. Time is the most valuable thing any of us have and we can't get it back. We thank you for sharing your time with us. It means so much to have you be a part of who we are. After all - we are YOUR Williamson.

I was once told that the most important thing you can ever do for your kids is share your time with them and build great memories. With the longer days and beautiful starry nights, why not get started on it now. What will you do with your time? Go on a picnic, go fishing, attend an outdoor concert, play golf, plan a getaway—whether it's an up-the-road adventure, a weekend at the lake, a trip to a baseball game, a visit to a theme park or a trip to the beach. What sounds best to you? No time like the present.

I would LOVE to hear from you, our readers, about your favorite summer memories and plans for this summer to make it amazing.  Email me at johnny@yourcommunity.media or tag @yourwilliamson on social media, and your best summer activity may be featured on YOUR Williamson! Or, you may just give me some good ideas!

As this issue focuses on the gentlemen, let me just share with you a few lessons I have learned in life: We all stay busy. But always make time to tell your family you love them; pick up the phone and call, or simply text someone special and let them know you were thinking of them. Give someone in need a helping hand; call your mother; pay someone a compliment; treat everyone with respect; everyday find a way to improve yourself to be the best version of you, you can be.

Enjoy this summer. Be good to yourself. The best of what may be...is waiting for you. Remember: "Lost time is never found again." - Benjamin Franklin

THE CASE FOR TREATING HERNIAS SOONER, NOT LATER

WITH TIMOTHY JOHNSON, M.D., M.S | WILLIAMSON HEALTH

About one in four men will develop a hernia in their lifetime. Yet many delay treatment, choosing to live with discomfort until the condition worsens. In recognition of Men’s Health Month, Dr. Timothy Johnson, a board-certified surgeon with Williamson Health Medical Group, wants men to understand why early hernia care matters—and why today’s minimally invasive hernia surgeries are nothing to fear.

What is a hernia?

“A hernia is when tissue pushes through a weak spot in the muscle or surrounding tissue,” said Dr. Johnson, a general surgeon with Williamson Health Medical Group. “Inguinal hernias, which occur in the groin, are the most common type and affect men more often than women.”

Other types include:

Incisional hernias: occur at the site of a previous abdominal surgery Umbilical hernias: form at the belly button

Hiatal hernias: happen when the stomach pushes into the chest cavity

Often, the first sign of an inguinal hernia is a noticeable bulge in the groin—sometimes with little or no pain.

What causes an inguinal hernia?

Inguinal hernias often stem from a weakness in the abdominal wall, especially in the inguinal canal—the pathway where testicles descend before birth.

Contrary to popular belief, heavy

lifting doesn’t cause hernias, but it can worsen one that already exists.

“If you already have a weak spot in the abdomen, any strain you put on the abdominal wall can trigger a hernia,” Dr. Johnson said. “Weight gain and the associated stretching of the abdominal wall can cause as much strain as any type of lifting.”

What are the treatment options for inguinal hernias?

“There’s no physical therapy or amount of abdominal strengthening that will fix a hernia,” Dr. Johnson said. “The only treatment option is surgery.”

Most inguinal hernia repairs are minimally invasive outpatient procedures, often performed robotically. Through small incisions, surgeons insert surgical mesh to support the weakened area and help prevent the hernia from coming back. Recovery is usually quick.

“Patients generally have four to six weeks of lifting restrictions, but can resume normal activities within a few weeks,” Dr. Johnson said, noting

the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. “Hernias happen, but the healthier you are, the faster your recovery.”

Why is it Important to treat hernias sooner rather than later?

Many men put off surgery if the hernia doesn’t cause immediate pain, but Dr. Johnson urges early intervention since hernias can get larger over time. Delaying care can lead to a larger, more complex hernia. In some cases, it may result in emergency surgery—which comes with greater risks and a longer recovery.

“Hernias are easier to repair when they’re smaller, and you can plan the surgery around your lifestyle and schedule—which you can’t do if it’s an emergency.”

Whether you’re noticing a bulge, mild discomfort or just want peace of mind, the surgical team at Williamson Health offers expert care using the latest minimally invasive techniques. Visit williamsonhealth.org/general-surgery to learn more.

Signs of a Hernia

Hernias don’t get better over time. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it’s worth getting checked out:

Visible bulge in the groin or lower abdomen

Pain or discomfort, especially when lifting, coughing or bending

Heaviness or pressure in the groin

Burning or aching sensation at the bulge site

Pain that improves when lying down

EON OF TENNESSEE

ZERO DOWNTIME.

ALL RESULTS.

EON TARGETS STUBBORN FAT WITH LASER PRECISION ZERO DOWNTIME, NO SURGERY, JUST RESULTS

Let’s face it—today’s modern man wears many hats. Whether you’re leading boardroom meetings, coaching little league, or simply trying to find a moment for yourself, life gets busy. Somewhere between career ambitions and family commitments, carving out time for your personal wellness and confidence often takes a backseat.

That’s where EON Body Contouring steps in—a high-tech, zero-downtime solution for the man who wants to look as good as he feels.

What is EON?

EON is a revolutionary, FDA-cleared, non-invasive body contouring treatment designed to reduce stubborn fat with precision and comfort. Using robotic, touchless technology and state-of-the-art laser energy, EON targets and eliminates fat in the most common trouble spots— like the abdomen and flanks—without surgery, needles, or recovery time.

In under thirty minutes, the EON device scans and treats the area, delivering consistent, controlled heat that destroys fat cells permanently while keeping you comfortable throughout. The destroyed fat cells are then naturally eliminated by your body over the next twelve weeks.

Why It’s for Men, Too

The old stereotype that body contouring is just for women? It’s long gone. More men are investing in aesthetic treatments—not out of vanity, but out of a desire to feel more confident, fit better in their clothes, and take control of their appearance in a way that’s proactive, not reactive.

Men, particularly those who are already living active lifestyles and eating well but can’t seem to get rid of the extra layer around their midsection, find EON to be a perfect complement to their efforts. It’s for those who want visible results without disrupting their workweek or gym schedule.

Real Results. Real Confidence.

Clients often report seeing a more contoured silhouette within six to twelve weeks after their EON treatment, with up to 21%- 25% fat reduction in the

treated area after just one session. And because the results are gradual and natural-looking, your transformation won’t raise eyebrows—unless it’s for the right reasons.

The best part?

There’s no prep, no post-care, and no downtime. Walk in for a treatment on your lunch break, walk out and carry on with your day.

Investing in You

In a world that demands so much of your time, energy, and attention, choosing to invest in yourself isn’t indulgent—it’s essential. Whether you’re aiming to jumpstart a health journey, refine your physique, or simply feel more confident when you catch your reflection, EON Body Contouring offers a modern, efficient way to prioritize you.

PRF & THE FUTURE OF HAIR RESTORATION

If you’ve started noticing more hair in the sink than on your head, you’re not alone—and you’re not out of options.

As the owner and lead injector at Grace Aesthetics in Cool Springs, I’ve seen firsthand how something as personal as hair loss can affect a person’s confidence, especially for men. And while the stigma around medical aesthetics is slowly shifting, hair loss is still something many people, especially men, struggle to talk about. My job is to make sure you don’t have to suffer in silence–or settle for results that don’t look or feel natural.

That’s where PRF Hair Restoration comes in.

PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin, and it’s a next-generation regenerative treatment that uses your body’s own healing properties to restore hair density and stimulate new growth. If you’ve heard of PRP (plateletrich plasma), you’re on the right track. PRF is a more advanced version of that same concept, with higher concentrations of platelets, growth factors, and stem cells.

How it works

We start with a simple blood draw, just like you’d get during a routine physical. That blood is then spun in a specialized centrifuge to separate out the fibrinrich layer. What we’re left with is a golden, gel-like substance full of concentrated growth factors–your body’s own natural fertilizer, if you will. Next, I, or one of our talented injectors—Tori Crook, RN, Kristin Osmon, RN, or Dan Ayers, PA—will carefully inject that PRF into the areas of the scalp where you’re experiencing thinning or hair loss.

Over time, those injections help wake up dormant hair follicles, extend the growth cycle of your hair, and even improve the quality of the hair that’s already there. We’re not transplanting anything or using synthetic materials–just your own body’s regenerative power, redirected with intention.

What I love most about PRF is that it’s a treatment that actually respects the body’s natural timeline. This isn’t a quick fix–it’s a slow, steady build toward stronger, thicker hair. Most patients begin with a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, with maintenance sessions every six months to maintain and build on results.

the temples, or general loss of density. We can’t bring back what’s completely gone, but we can absolutely reinforce what you still have, stimulate new growth, and delay or even prevent future loss.

There’s little to no downtime with PRF treatments. The procedure is quick and well-tolerated (we use numbing and distraction techniques to keep you comfortable), and you can get back to your normal routine the same day. Results begin to show within a few months and continue to improve over time, with the most dramatic difference seen around the sixmonth mark.

While PRF Hair Restoration is suitable for both men and women, this month’s issue of YOUR Williamson is all about the guys–so let’s talk about why it’s especially impactful for men. I treat men at all stages of hair loss, but the best results are often seen in those who are starting to notice thinning at the crown, receding at

One of my male patients told me recently, “It’s not that I want to look younger—I just want to look like myself again.” That really stuck with me. PRF Hair Restoration isn’t about dramatic change. It’s about helping you feel like you again, just with a little more strength and density where you’ve lost it.

So, whether you’re newly noticing hair changes or just ready to take control, PRF Hair Restoration is a powerful option with lasting results. If you’re ready to take the first step, let’s talk. You’ll be amazed at what your body can do when given the right support.

It’s time to grow back your confidence–naturally. Call us at 615.401.9963 or visit graceaesthetics.com to schedule your consultation.

A TOMATO-INSPIRED ENGAGEMENT CELEBRATION

Summer is officially on the horizon here in Williamson County! The days are longer, the sun is stronger, and everything’s in full bloom—from vibrant flowers to local farms bursting with fresh produce.

The timing of all this growth was perfect for Donovan Hughes and Sheridan Hitchcox, who recently got engaged while overseas in Edinburgh, Scotland. Donovan, also known as Mr. Hughes, as his students call him, is the Theatre Director and educator at Page Middle School—where they just wrapped their production of “Seussical the Musical” and are now working on their summer production of Disney’s “Newsies Jr.”. Donovan, himself is a talented actor, performer and playwright. While attending Middle Tennessee State University and working towards his degree in Theatre, Donovan met Sheridan, who was also hard at work with her degree in Theatre Performance. Sheridan is the creative force behind Sheridan Grace Floral, a local bespoke floral design company, as well as a scenic and costume designer and educator in Williamson County.

Sheridan took the reins on their big celebration, though both she and Donovan are creative geniuses. And to no surprise, Sheridan came through with the perfect inspiration for her engagement party! The soon-to-be bride came to us at Rose & Plum Living with a vibrant, warm and romantic theme for their upcoming engagement party—Summer in Italy! And instantly, the theme transported us to the Italy of old romantic films—sun-drenched afternoons, charming countryside villas, and tables overflowing with ripe tomatoes and heartfelt conversation. Naturally, we couldn’t resist getting tomato-obsessed!

Sheridan’s vision included red, white, yellow, and green floral centerpieces that incorporated a mix of both contemporary and classic elements. Her Ikebana arrangements added a whimsical touch, while the use of canned tomato cans by Bianco DiNapoli, served as vessels to the classic feel one might find under the Tuscan sun. Sheridan’s designs included a variety of locally grown florals AND the sun-kissed star of every Italian table—tomatoes!

Produce of all kinds is having its moment right now in the event design world. For both grand and quaint events, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and even eggplant are the stars of the show, and we are here for it! After all, Rose & Plum Living does have produce in our name!

In its obvious vibrant red form, the tomato is a symbol of love and passion, making it the perfect star of the summer engagement show. We decided to include vibrant additions

of color with lemon-yellow ceramics and linens, green lettuce bowls and platters, red and white trays, tomato-lidded bowls, and vintage green glassware to the tablescape to accent the produce, incorporating the colors of Italy naturally.

In Italian culture, food and romance are deeply intertwined, and the tomato is the undeniable heartbeat of the cuisine, especially during the summer when all varieties of the tomato are at their peak of freshness. It was an easy decision to focus on seasonally fresh products, Italian tomato-forward dishes and made-from-scratch items to assist in transporting guests back to the “Old Country.” With a wide variety of cheeses, smoked charcuterie meats, and crudité, our famous RPL meatballs, espresso-kissed tiramisu shooters, Donovan’s flavor-bursting heirloom bruschetta, and our Chef Emily’s sautéed greens and Gruyère focaccia balls came together to create a meal that was as vibrant and heartfelt as the couple we were celebrating.

Donovan and Sheridan’s engagement soiree embodied the perfect joyful moments one might experience when on holiday in Italy, which is exactly how they wanted their friends and family to feel. At its core, the tomato represents the beauty of simplicityneeding only olive oil and salt to become something extraordinary—making it the perfect symbol for the couple whose love is rooted in authenticity, joy and, well, That’s Amore’!

Bring a little bit of la dolce vita to your next event with Rose & Plum Living. From timeless designs to unforgettable flavors, our team is ready to craft a celebration that feels as joyful and authentic as your story. Visit roseandplumliving.com or call 615.274.8820 to start planning your event.

A GRANDFATHER'S LEGACY

BOB RAVENER RELEASES THE FAITHFUL SERVANT

Acclaimed author and Franklin resident Bob Ravener released his highly anticipated historical novel, The Faithful Servant: The Mysterious and Extraordinary Life of Officer Frank C. Smith, on April 24, 2025. Known for his deep-rooted commitment to business leadership, community service, and historic preservation, Ravener brings readers an evocative tale of honor, sacrifice, and corruption set against the backdrop of early twentieth century America.

Inspired by actual events in the life of Ravener’s grandfather, The Faithful Servant follows Frank C. Smith as he faces the harsh realities of an unprepared nation’s build-up to World War I, followed by a compromised  New York City Police Department in the throes of Prohibition and the gangster wars of the 1920s and 1930s. Torn between his duty and a system that threatens to unravel everything he stands for, Smith’s journey spans from the brutal trenches of war to the gritty streets of New York City. His internal battle is fought not just for justice – but for his very soul. Future iconic figures first emerge during these trying and turbulent times in America.

“This story is about more than just one man’s struggle against the forces of evil,” says Ravener. Set during a time when our nation was navigating seismic transformation, it’s about the resilience of the American spirit, the complexities of loyalty, and the difficult choices that define us. I intend for readers to learn about a tumultuous period in our nation’s history and question what they would do in the face of moral uncertainty.”

Ravener, a United States Naval Academy graduate, U.S. Navy submarine veteran, and businessman, has built an impressive military service, corporate leadership, and community advocacy career. His first book, Up! The Difference Between Today and Tomorrow Is You was published in 2013 and is available on Amazon. Now, he steps into historical fiction with The Faithful Servant , delivering a gripping narrative that resonates with today’s readers.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ravener has been an active leader in Franklin, serving on multiple nonprofit boards, including Friends of Franklin Parks, the Downtown Neighborhood Association, and Franklin’s Charge. He is also a Downtown Franklin Rotary, VFW, and American Legion member. His passion for history is evident in his past work as Vice-Chairman of the Franklin Civil War Historical Commission.

The release of The Faithful Servant is a proud moment for Franklin’s literary and historical communities. The book is available at Landmark Booksellers and Amazon.

Whether you prefer the straightforward nature of the interstate or the scenic wind of a state highway, just a couple hours down the road, you'll find "The Shoals"— home to Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield and Tuscumbia, Alabama. This area has earned the nickname "Hit Recording Capital of the World" from its significant impact on the music industry going back to the 1960s and continuing to this day.

Named "The Shoals" references its location along the banks of the Tennessee River. This region is home to many well-kept connections to the music we all know and love. Although the exact origin of the name remains a mystery, one common explanation is that it refers to the shallow areas along a river, known as shoals.

If you're looking for a weekend getaway that's just down the road, The Shoals should definitely be high on your list. With beautiful water views, outdoor water adventures, Southern hospitality, and local cuisine, the area is perfect for a family, couple, or friends' weekend adventure. Indulge

in local cuisine, such as barbecue or traditional Southern fare; stroll the streets of the quaint downtown areas; or take on a water adventure on one of the area's lakes or rivers. Whatever you imagine for a Southern town getaway, The Shoals likely offers that—and more.

The area is home to The Renaissance Shoals Resort & Spa, located on the banks of the Tennessee River, offering views of both the river and the historic Wilson Dam. The resort was recently renovated and intentionally curated to align with the area's rich musical heritage. The resort is home to Alabama's only revolving restaurant, the 360 Grille. In addition to the stunning, breathtaking views from high above the tree lines, the 360 Grille offers American fine dining amidst a cosmopolitan ambiance. The music history of the area is carried through the resort with additional food and beverage options provided by Swampers Bar & Grille and Rock & Roast.

And there's no better time to visit than this summer, as the area hosts its annual W.C. Handy Music Festival. This vibrant annual festival celebrates the life, legacy and impact

of blues musician W.C. Handy. Born in The Shoals, Handy is known as the "Father of the Blues." He composed well-known blues tunes, including "St. Louis Blues," "Beale Street Blues," and "Memphis Blues." The W.C. Handy Music Festival showcases all genres of music, ranging from blues, jazz, county, gospel, rock and R&B. The festival features live performances, parades, street festivals and community events—all designed to celebrate the contributions of W.C. Handy and the rich music culture of the area.

While enjoying the music and events celebrating W.C. Handy, be sure also to visit Handy's birthplace, located in Florence, Alabama. The jazz musician's birthplace is a log cabin that now houses an extensive collection of his personal papers, memorabilia, and other artifacts— including handwritten sheets of music originals of many of his songs—as well as the exact piano that played "St. Louis Blues" for the very first time. A must-see stop while taking in the sights and sounds of the iconic Handy Festival.

Check your calendar, gas up the tank, and experience the music heartbeat of The Shoals!

505 EASTERN LAKE ROAD

SANTA ROSA BEACH

$17,500,000

5 bedrooms

7 bathrooms 5,103sqft

There are properties that simply exist, and then there are homes that capture something ineffable—a sense of place that transcends square footage and architectural details. This new Gulf-front estate in Santa Rosa Beach belongs firmly in the latter category.

Standing four stories tall behind private gates, this residence occupies one of Florida's most coveted settings: a rare stretch where Coastal Dune Lake meets the Gulf of Mexico. To the west, endless blue waters stretch toward the horizon. To the east, the serene boundary of a Coastal Dune Lake creates a different kind of magic—the kind of dual-water frontage

that exists in precious few places along our coastline.

Architect Geoff Chick understood the assignment. Rather than competing with the natural drama outside, his design serves as a frame for it. Floor-to-ceiling windows capture Gulf views from nearly every room, while thoughtfully positioned patios and porches on both sides of the home ensure that whether you're drawn to sunrise over the Lake or sunset over the Gulf, you'll have a front-row seat.

SCAN

The interior flows with the kind of ease that makes entertaining feel effortless, whether you're hosting twelve or fifty. The open floor plan doesn't fight the views—it enhances them, creating spaces that feel both grand and livable. There is also a carefully curated mix of custom furniture, art and water views with every glance.

Privacy comes naturally here. Walls and gates provide discretion, while direct beach access means your own path to those sugar-white Gulf sands that make this stretch of the Emerald Coast legendary. The three-car garage and elevator handle the practical considerations, leaving you free to focus on what matters: the views from all four floors that remind you daily why this location is so special.

For those who understand that true luxury isn't about showing off but about finding your perfect place in the world, this property offers something increasingly rare. It's not just Gulf-front—it's Gulf-and-lake-front, a combination that creates a living experience you simply cannot replicate elsewhere along our coast.

This isn't merely another high-end property hitting the market. It's a home that captures the spirit of what makes our coastal communities so compelling—the meeting of waters, the interplay of privacy and grandeur, the daily reminder that sometimes the most valuable thing you can own is a view that changes with every tide and every season.

Some opportunities come along once in a generation.

This is one of them.

THE Primm House

AT MOORES LANE

8318 MOORES LANE BRENTWOOD

6 BEDROOMS | 7 FULL BATHS | 3 HALF BATHS 11,752 SQ FT | $8,899,000

There’s something unmistakable about an old Tennessee home—the kind that’s watched generations pass through; that carries weight in its beams and grace in its details. This one has done just that. Originally constructed in the mid-1800s, with roots stretching back to an 1806 log house still standing on the property, it’s one of Brentwood’s most enduring cornerstones.

The original structure—known locally as the Primm House—holds four rooms built in 1846. They remain intact, restored with precision, each echoing the craftsmanship of its era. The rest of the home builds outward from that foundation, adding scale, flow, functionality, and 9,672 square feet of new construction for a modern family without erasing the past.

Inside, the living spaces feel generous and grounded. Six bedrooms. Seven full baths. Two working offices, both with fireplaces. A true chef’s kitchen and a working pantry. From everyday routines to large family gatherings, the layout supports both.

Step outside, and the property stretches into five acres of gated privacy. A two-story porch welcomes guests at the front, while a pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen, and expansive club room with a kitchen that offers space to relax or entertain. The barn—over 6,000 square feet of storage space—offers room for car collectors, hobbyists, or hosting on a large scale. And just beyond, the original log house has been revived—new roof, refinished floors, fresh chinking—ready to become a creative studio, play house, or the quietest retreat on the property.

A working spring house still runs water through the grounds. The fences surround the property with a gated entrance. And downtown Nashville is just twenty minutes away.

Historic but new. Spacious without feeling showy. This is the kind of place that holds still in a world that moves fast—and does it with quiet confidence.

Charles

Beauchamp

MORE THAN A VETERINARIAN

he “I Am Williamson” column features individuals in Williamson County who are known and unknown as staples of our community, doing good, being seen and unseen, and exuding Williamson County.

This month, we feature Charles (Charly) Beauchamp. Charly is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine who opened his Franklin practice, Beauchamp Animal Hospital, in 1977. For over forty-eight years, he has been devoted to his passion for helping animals and, in turn, their humans. His practice and the reputation he has established in our community speak to his trusted care, professionalism and dedication to animals. We are proud to tell a part of Charly’s story and loved learning a little more about him in our “I Am Williamson” interview.

How long have you lived in Williamson  County and what is it about WC that makes it feel like home to you?

I have lived here for fifty-three years, since 1972. It feels like home due to the culture and people, those relationships, and the accessibility to that culture and relationships. Also, a general feeling of care, serenity and well-being.

What is your profession, and what led you to choose it?

I was raised in an environment of respect for our natural world and interaction with the human world. My interest in the animal world and a very

close cousin (veterinarian) led me to choosing veterinary medicine as a career. Veterinary medicine incorporates the biological science and technology to bring a needed balance to the animal-human world—companion animals, agriculture, animals, plants, drug resources, and improving environmental and our physical health to name a few.

Three words that best describe you.  Kind, compassionate, integrity.

What do you like to do in your spare time?     Sports, traveling, hunting, nature’s world and reading.

Where is your favorite place to go in WC and why?

I truly enjoy most places in Williamson County, especially the Civil War and historical sites, and the back roads of what’s left of rural and small areas.

What keeps you motivated and inspired?    Relationships, clients and their loyalty to Beauchamp Animal Hospital. The devotion, love and loyalty to the veterinary profession.

What organization(s) are you involved with and why?

Battle of Franklin Trust, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Shriners Children Hospital, Tunnels to

Towers and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Those organizations all encompass my compassion for childhood diseases and illness as well as those who serve our country in any way. Preservation of history related to the South, Civil War and Williamson County and middle Tennessee is very important to me.

What is the one thing you do not go a day without?

Daily prayers and time for personal reflection with God. I pray every day to be the person my dog thinks I am—as the saying goes.

Finish this statement:

I AM Williamson because…

I am Williamson because I came here as an outsider, a stranger, a die-hard Floridian/Florida Gator and Williamson County and its people welcomed me. They gave me the opportunity to dream and make those dreams come true. Through the years, I dedicated myself and this veterinary practice to try and to give back to Williamson County, as it was given to me. I have been so very fortunate and so very grateful for the many, many people from all walks of life that have crossed my life’s path—making me a better person and service provider for Williamson County. The friendship, loyalty and support, that Williamson County has given me, is extremely humbling and will always be. Thank you to all, forever more.

Rich HISTORY, Modern LIVING

Chapters of a Storied Building

CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS AT LANDMARK BOOKSELLERS

tep inside Landmark Booksellers, and you’re not just entering a bookshop... You’re crossing the threshold into more than two centuries of Franklin’s history. These walls have seen East Main Street transform from dirt to pavement, watched horse-drawn carriages give way to cars, and welcomed everyone from hardy pioneers to modern-day shoppers and tourists. Known historically as the Old Factory Store, this building has worn many hats, including a bank, a cotton factory store, an inventor’s workshop, a juke joint, a soldiers’ club—and for the past two decades, a literary haven.

This summer marks Landmark’s twentieth anniversary in the Old Factory Store. It’s the latest chapter in this building’s long and varied history, but Landmark has a remarkable tale of its own, one that began with a romance.

Joel and Carol Tomlin met on a blind date at Steeplechase in May 1993

and married the following winter. With a blended family of seven children, the couple’s schedule was packed with sports and school activities, not to mention the demands of two thriving careers—Joel’s in real estate and Carol’s in education. Amid the busy season, the Tomlins made a pact: Once their youngest graduated from high school, they would find something just for the two of them to do together.

That dream began to take shape in early 2005 when Joel learned that the owner of Dad’s Old Bookstore in Nashville was retiring and selling his entire inventory. Joel, an avid book collector, and Carol, a passionate reader, saw it as the perfect opportunity to combine their passions into one shared venture: They would open a bookshop together.

As the proud new owners of more than 50,000 books, the Tomlins needed a home for their vision. They purchased the Old Factory Store, located at 114 East Main Street in Franklin, and set to work transforming

One of our great joys over the years has been meeting the people who travel here "

the space into a cozy bookshop with antique Oriental rugs, eclectic artwork, and plush seating. On July 15, 2005, Landmark Booksellers officially opened its doors.

What started as a labor of love has since become a staple in downtown Franklin. Landmark now boasts a diverse inventory of new, old, and rare books, including more than 2,000 signed first editions. The popular bookshop attracts visitors from around the country and the world. “We are really blessed because of the tourism that Franklin does,” says Joel. “One of our great joys over the years has been meeting the people who travel here.”

In 2012, Landmark gained even wider recognition when author Karen Kingsbury based her New York Times bestseller The Bridge on the bookshop. Not only that, the Tomlins served as inspiration for her protagonists. The novel was later adapted into a Hallmark movie of the same name.

Years later, Kingsbury would support the Tomlins again, this time during the COVID-19 shutdowns, which threatened to close Landmark for good. She offered to sell signed copies of her latest novel, Someone Like You, exclusively on the bookshop’s website. The response was overwhelming. “That saved us through the pandemic,” says Joel. “Karen is our guardian angel.”

has played a vital role in Franklin’s history, hosting prominent figures such as Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, and James K. Polk. It’s even said that Andrew Jackson paid his troops on the property during the return trip to Nashville after their decisive win in the Battle of New Orleans.

In 1823, the building served as the factory store for Franklin’s first cotton mill, selling textile products like thread and fabric. Over time, the inventory expanded to include general merchandise and items manufactured at a nearby foundry and grist mill.

In addition to bibliophiles and Kingsbury fans, Landmark also draws historians. Although the exact origins of the building are uncertain, the Tomlins believe it may date back as far as 1808. Over the centuries, it

After the bloody Battle of Franklin in 1864, the Old Factory Store served as a temporary hospital where soldiers from both sides were treated. In the years since, it has housed a grocery store, an inventor’s workshop, a soldiers’ club, a juke joint, and an antique store. In 1954, Dotson’s Restaurant opened in the space and quickly became a beloved gathering spot and a favorite among country music singers.

To mark its twentieth anniversary, Landmark will host a special event on July 16th, at 6pm. The celebration is free and open to the public with live entertainment, author signings, a storewide sale, and refreshments. Guests will also receive a free commemorative book chronicling the 200-plus-year history of the building and Landmark’s twenty-year journey.

Tails of Franklin

Coffee Table Book Celebrates Pets While Giving Back

WITH MISTY WESTEBBE PHOTOGRAPHY

There’s a special kind of magic in the bond we share with our pets and  Tails of Franklin is on a mission to capture it. This heartwarming coffee table book is more than just a collection of adorable pet portraits. It’s a community-driven art and charity project by Misty Westebbe Photography. It has been created to honor the love we share with our furry companions and raise vital support for animals still waiting for their forever homes.

Why This Book Matters

Every pet has a story. Whether it’s a goofy grin, a soulful stare, or the way they curl up beside us at the end of the day; our animals leave pawprints on our hearts. Tails of Franklin was inspired by that emotional connection and by Misty’s own beloved rescue pup, Ruddy, whose memory continues to inspire every page of this project.

But there’s more... With each portrait session, Misty is also raising funds for Friends of Williamson County Animal Center, who provide resources, medical care and a second chance for pets in need.

Where We Are Now

"So far, the community has embraced the project with open arms and wagging tails. To date, we’ve collected over $7,500 in donations, with sixty-two amazing pet families registered and fifty of them already photographed. Each session brings us closer to our goal of raising $25,000 and featuring 150 pet families in the final book— each with their own heartfelt story and portrait," says Westebbe.

How It Works

For a $150 donation, pet parents receive a professional portrait session with Misty Westebbe at her private studio and gardens in Franklin. Each participating family will be featured in a full spread within the book, showcasing both their photo and a personal story submitted by the humans who love them. Participants will also have the option to purchase artwork from their session if they’d like to celebrate their pets even more.

The book will be beautifully designed and printed, with all net proceeds benefiting the animals served by Williamson County Animal Center.

Be Part of the Story

Whether your pet is a bouncy puppy, a dignified senior, or a rescue with a secondchance success story, Misty would love to include them in  Tails of Franklin. Spots are filling fast and the goal is to photograph all 150 pet families by Fall 2025 and release the book in early 2026.

To learn more or to reserve your spot, visit mistywestebbephotography.com or call Misty at 615.281.0612. Your pet could be the next star in a project that’s turning love into action—one wag, woof and whisker at a time.

TEAMING UP FOR HEALTH

LOCAL HOSPITAL & SPORTS CLINIC SUPPORTING STUDENT ATHLETES

hen you think of Friday night lights in Williamson County, what comes to mind?

High school football stadiums, student-athletes on the field and along the sidelines, and stadium seats filled with the noise of cheering family and friends. But what you likely don’t think about—and may not even notice most of the time—are the athletic trainers present on the sidelines, keeping a watchful eye on both the game and the student-athletes. On the off-chance that you do notice the trainers, you likely have never thought about “how” that happens—not just for football, but for every sport in between, ranging from football to cross country and basketball to lacrosse.

Thanks to a collaboration between Williamson Health and Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee, dedicated athletic trainers provide care for student-athletes throughout participating Williamson County schools. These athletic trainers are present on campus for all practices and home games, covering

twenty-three TSSAA varsity sports. Services provided as part of this program include prevention, rehabilitation, and everything in between. This year, Williamson Health and Bone and Joint Institute athletic trainers will cover more than 2,500 home games across nine high schools in the county.

“We are honored to be able to give back to our young athletes through our athletic training program thanks to gracious contributions from our local supporters,” said Jay Moore, ATC, Director of Athletic Training for Williamson Health and Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee. “Because burnout and injuries are the most common causes of mental health issues among athletes, our comprehensive sports medicine program is essential to the overall well-being of the athletes. Our athletic trainers examine all aspects of the studentathlete’s journey from physical to emotional health, often forming meaningful relationships with athletes and their families.”

Williamson Health and Bone and Joint Institute

athletic trainers work in tandem as part of the comprehensive sports medicine program the local health system offers high schools at no expense to the schools. The team physicians generously provide their time and expertise as part of their commitment to care for local athletes. Additionally, these providers get to know the athletes on a personal level. Williamson Health also provides on-site Emergency Medical Services for every high school’s home varsity football games.

A local soccer student-athlete described her athletic trainer and participation in this program in this way: “Brittany is such a good trainer. When I tore my ACL during a high school soccer game, she supported me throughout my recovery journey. She was there from when she carried me off the field up until I was cleared to play again six months later. She is truly the best!”

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this program is that it is provided at no cost to the participating schools, parents, or student-

athletes served. This is made possible through the Annual Williamson Health Champions Golf Classic, from which proceeds help fund this athletic training program.

This year, the 30th Annual Williamson Health Champions Golf Classic will be held on August 16th at the Nashville Golf and Athletic Club. To celebrate this thirtieth-anniversary milestone, this year’s event will offer a single afternoon round of golf, followed by an after-party featuring delicious food, meaningful connections, and live entertainment from well-known musical artists and local supporters of the health systems.

“We are thrilled to celebrate thirty years of giving back to Williamson County, made possible by the generous support from our growing community,” said Leigh Williams, Williamson Health Foundation Executive Director. “This year’s event is especially exciting with the addition of the after-party featuring a unique putting contest and incredible musical talent, adding even more energy to the friendly competition on the course.”

While some may think golf is for the gentlemen, there will also be something of interest to the ladies. As part of the event, Williamson Health Foundation Capital Campaign Co-Chair Caroline Bryan will host her signature competition, Putting for Purses, which combines skill, fashion and philanthropy. Participants purchase opportunities to win coveted designer purses that have been donated in support of Caroline’s favorite causes. The Putting for Purses competition will take just after the start of the After Party.

“Our signature ‘Putting for Purses’ contest at charity golf events has become a fan favorite—and for good reason! There’s nothing more entertaining than watching someone sink a putt with laser focus…all because they’ve got their eye on that one perfect handbag—whether it’s for them or a lucky loved one,” said Bryan. “We’ve had some incredible designer bags donated for this great cause, and it’s such a fun way to raise extra funds right on the course. So don’t forget to bring your wallet—and your short game—because you’re definitely going to want in on the action!”

As the student-athletes begin to prepare for the upcoming sports seasons ahead, show your support for our community and this event. Visit williamsonhealth.org/ golf-tournament to learn how you can participate in and support the upcoming 30th Annual Williamson Health Champions Golf Classic. Join in the fun for a good cause!

Martin Dingman

LEATHERGOODS AND LLEWELLINS

first became familiar with Martin Dingman shoes while visiting my son in Oxford, Mississippi, at a men’s clothier. I bought a pair and soon was saying they were the finest shoes I had ever owned. I have since added to the collection. I later learned of the man behind the brand through a friend of mine, Mr. Critt Rawlings—a legend in the gentlemen’s clothing industry. It was after having my first conversation with Mr. Martin Dingman that I realized what a great gentleman he truly is.

Once we struck up a friendship, I learned that in addition to the clothier business, he is also an expert on and breeder of the Royal Llewellin Setter. They grace his catalogs and branding in general, and I fell in love with this regal and interesting dog I was seeing. I got to hear everything about them when I inquired and, well…it wasn’t long before I was on the list to

have one of his beautiful and noble Llewellin puppies.

The Duke of Windsor (aka Windsor) came to live at the Birdsong house in January. And, of course, being a southern gentleman himself, Windsor has stolen our heart and hearts all over town. He is usually found at the YOUR Williamson offices or torturing our French Bulldog, Tallulah, and cat, Eliza Doolittle, at our house daily! The truth is— he is an exceptional dog and true companion both for me and our whole family.

It is my honor to have Martin as “A SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN IS” for this annual summer issue—devoted to all things for the gentleman. Thank you, Martin, for sharing your time with us and THANK YOU for bringing the Birdsong family into the Martin Dingman Royal Llewellin family with our newest family member, Windsor.

What led you to start your own business in men’s “the refined country life” leather apparel? What do you enjoy most about your career?

From a young age, I was burdened with a defiant attitude. There was always a better way in my opinion. After finishing my undergrad degree at Missouri State, I went to work in a major department store in St. Louis (corporate America). It didn’t take long to identify the politics and personal agendas permeating that environment. I was more of a no-nonsense, get the job done type of individual that did not have time for those games. Ultimately, I became an independent road representative for several menswear firms, covering the Midwest. While lying on the beach in Puerta Vallarta, during our honeymoon, it occurred to me that if I were not in an account, presenting my lines to the buyer, I was not making a living. Then I remembered the horrible movie, Death of a Salesman. At that moment I made up my mind to build a company that would provide more financial stability for my family.

What I like most about my career is the ability to create, using leather as my palette, travel the world to develop our collections, and the tremendous people we are privileged to know and do business with, both as suppliers and retailers.

What and to whom do you attribute your success?

First, I give thanks to the Lord for gifting me with a creative talent. However, on this

side of heaven, my dad was a tremendous influence, as he was insistent on having me obtain a four-year undergraduate degree. Keep in mind, no one in my family, mothers’ or father’s, had ever done so at that time. My dad was a major influence, as he lived the principles that I mentioned above. He also had extremely good taste in his personal style, regularly wearing double breasted, peak lapel suits, with a Panama straw fedora, and English made footwear. Right up there with dad is my wonderful wife, Gay, of forty-two years, who has been a phenomenal wife (better than I deserve), tremendous mother to our three children, best friend, business partner, guidance counselor, and overall, Rock of Gibraltar.

How would you define a Gentleman?

Being a gentleman may sound complex to some, but fundamentally, is very simple. Open a door, or pull out a chair for a lady, allow others to go first, never interrupt, be kind even when you disagree, always take time to play with the children, never strike a dog, dress well, even for no reason, always have a manicure, respect others, especially the elderly, and love God. Without Him, you will never have the heart and love, to love others enough to carry out your purpose as a true gentleman.

What advice would you give a young you, or today's younger generation, to help them reach their potential and be the best they can be?

Always maintain an attitude of humility. Be a student of life. Read books. Set personal goals.

Prioritize people before profits. Most of all, give your life to the Lord, seek Him every day, and ask for his guidance. After all, He created the universe, as well as everything that has been created. He has the perfect plan for your life, if you will follow Him.

In today’s society, what do you think a gentleman can teach the younger generation about integrity, respect and service?

There is no greater satisfaction when you go to bed at night, that when you have treated people right, worked hard, placed others ahead of yourself, and accomplished your goals with the highest integrity. Just do things the right way.

How do you incorporate the qualities of a Gentleman in your everyday life?

I am a big believer in chivalry. Whether with my wife, daughter, or the lady I open the door for at the local supermarket. If you live right, then those personal attributes should spill over into every aspect of your life. Of course, my lovely wife keeps me on my toes, which I still regard as privilege and blessing.

What are your hobbies, activities and favorite pastimes?

At one time I was a tremendous sports fan. Baseball, football, basketball, golf and tennis. At different times in my life, I played them all. However, growing up on a farm, as well as spending a considerable amount of time with my grandfather who had fox hounds, I

became a tremendous animal lover. When our children were young, in addition to coaching their soccer and basketball teams, I gave them their own bird dogs, to go to competition field trials with me. In the fall I would have a father-son, or father-daughter field trial weekend, and we would take their dog to compete. We had a tremendous amount of fun, made wonderful memories, and brought home our fair share of trophies. That love of bird dogs evolved into a love and admiration of the rare Royal Llewellin Setter. I discovered them quite by accident but quickly learned that they were on the brink of extinction in America. Many are not aware that they have already disappeared in their home country of England. I was taken by the little I knew and launched out on a five-year journey of research to uncover as much of their history as possible. Gay and I have traveled to England, searching out little-known facts about this glorious breed. Today we love them tremendously, they are the most loving and beautiful dogs on planet Earth. In order to save these glorious pups, we have developed a small but strict breeding program, designed to protect and improve the breed.

Tell us about your philanthropic endeavors and why you feel it is essential to give back.

A wonderful mentor of mine once said to me “no man is an island”. I think he borrowed that from someone else, but nevertheless, he was right. No matter my skills, or hard work ethic, my success would not have occurred without those around me. In addition, the bible says, “to whom much is given, much is required”. The success we have was not given to us by the Lord to keep to ourselves. We are called to bless those around us, especially those who are without, or underprivileged. Gay and I embrace that concept and count it a privilege to support a number of local and national faith-based organizations.

What is the one thing you do not go a day without?

Thanking God for what He did for me and telling Gay how much I love her.

What else would you like our readers to know?

At the end of the day, we are a family that loves leather, views quality as a family tradition, and makes fine leather goods. We are not curing cancer or ending world hunger. I believe that God doesn’t really care what we do for a living, as long as it is legitimate. However, He is HIGHLY concerned with how we do it. Therefore, keep your priorities in order and do not allow the “shiny” things in the world get you off track. For the Dingman family, our priorities are faith, family, friends, leather goods and Llewellins.

A painted STORY

INTERVIEW BY

BY

Brush strokes of talent and history line the walls at Gallery 202 . It is seen and felt the moment you walk through the gallery doors. The artwork is that of many voices—from paintings to sculptures—and it speaks to every person in different ways. Whether you are an art enthusiast or just curious, you cannot help but marvel as you stroll through the rooms of the historic Clouston Hall, located in downtown Franklin's art district at 202 2nd Avenue South. It is truly something so special to behold.

Gallery 202 is more than just an art gallery—it's a reflection of creativity, community and passion of the artists. Behind the gallery is a visionary whose journey began with mural painting in Alabama. With a deep appreciation for both art and history, Kelly Harwood has given Williamson County a place where creativity is celebrated. We gained a deeper understanding of Kelly's artistic beginnings, the story behind Gallery 202, and the vision that continues to shape its legacy through our recent interview.

KELLY HARWOOD & GALLERY 202

Can you tell us about yourself and how you became to be an artist?

Since childhood, I have been the creative spirit! I am originally from Alabama, where I painted murals, faux finishes and artwork for Interior designers. I moved to the Nashville and Franklin area thirty years ago and focused on painting and selling my artwork. I am married to a wonderful man named Ira, and we have two dogs named Bosco and Hudson. Besides art, my other passion is vintage cars. I won't mention how many I have because Ira may read this...

Tell us the story behind Gallery 202?

Being an artist myself, opening a gallery had been a pipedream for many years—looking at possible locations but not finding that special place. When Clouston Hall became available, once we saw it and its potential, we knew that

this was it. Ira and I decided to take the plunge along with a lifelong friend, Jim McReynolds, and off we went on this wonderful, exciting adventure.

What makes Gallery 202 unique?

A unique aspect of the gallery is that it is located in a wonderful historic building circa 1821. Edward Clouston built Clouston Hall and is a fine example of Federal style architecture. The building underwent a total restoration in 2002/2003, and we purchased it in 2010 with the intent to open as an art gallery…which has turned out to be a wonderful experience.

How do you select the artists and artworks that are showcased?

The gallery receives numerous artists' submissions throughout the year, which we welcome because you never know what type of artwork you will be presented with. It's quite exciting to meet artists from all over the Southeast and beyond. The challenge is seeing so much great work with limited exhibition space. We usually look for artwork that keeps the gallery diverse in its representation and carries on the overall theme of the gallery.

How has the gallery evolved?

The gallery started with a few artists that we knew personally and had collected their work. In an attempt to gain some attention, we did purchase a collection of Andy Warhol's work from the Cowboy and Indian series, which was exciting. Having Warhol's work here in the gallery garnered quite a bit of attention and helped greatly put us on the radar. As time passed, we realized we wanted our focus to be primarily on local and regional artists, which has proven to be a great asset.

What's

next for Gallery 202?

With the continued growth of our community and folks seem to like supporting local artists, we will continue fulfilling our dream and the dream of our artist and continue this journey.

Visit gallery202art.com to learn more or to see the artwork online, or visit Gallery 202 in person and see the full collection—which I recommend.
