This month, the YVYC Tuesday Book Club interviewed Nicola, one of the members of staff at Halewood Library. We asked her some questions about life as a librarian and why she loves her job.
David: How long have you been working at the library?
Nicola: I’ve worked at the library since September, so less than a year, actually! But it’s always my dream job.
David: Why did you decide to work in the library?
Nicola: Firstly, because I love books and I love people and I get to work with both. Every day is different and we have everybody here - small children for singing and stories, people needing help with the council, it’s different every day!
David: What is your favourite thing about your job?
Nicola: That’s hard because there’s so much, I love! But my favourite thing is the people. It makes me happy every day.
David:Whatisyourleast favouritethingaboutyourjob?
Nicola:That’shardbecause there’snothingIdon’tlikereally! ButIdohateitat5o’clockwhen peoplearestillhereenjoyingthe libraryandIhavetotellthemto gohome.
David: Why should people visit the local library?
Nicola: Because it’s the best place to be! We want everyone to enjoy the library. We have activities and crafts; we have lots of amazing books and will help you find one that you’ll love; we can help with council services - like housing and benefits - and we’ll do anything we can to help you!
Bonus quiz question! – How many books are there in this library?
Nicola: Oh no! I should know this! 17,500, I think!
David: You were close, Nic! The answer is 17,560.

EUROMIST GAMES
TAYLOR SHINESIN EUROMIST GAMES
Euromist games Report By: Luke Wall
What a cracking day we had at Euromist games !!
On Wednesday 10th May we went to Anfield sports Centre to play Euromist games. The games were organized by Daisy Inclusive. When we got there we were put into teams Germany, Ukraine, UK, Portugal, Greece and Poland. We were Germany. There was me, Taylor, Craig, Daniel Dailey ,Chloe Crowney , Andrew , John Doyle , Sarah Guy and Autumn.
We played all different games. First was hot potato where we had to get the ball under each others legs and over our heads in lines. Wheelchair basketball was next. We each took turns to throw the ball in the basket without leaving a wheelchair. Next up goal ball. Goal ball is a game were players are blind folded and have to try and score against the other team by listening for a bell inside a ball It was really hard to know where the ball was coming from. Someone in each team clapped to make it easier to know where to roll the ball.
We did wheelchair races, a blind penalty shootout and finished the day with a fun game of Tug of war. John Doyle and Taylor were both stars at the wheelchair races, well done to them. We were proud of our team, and we had a fantastic time. We were there all day and had a lovely lunch. We made friends and got medals.
POTENTIAL, WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN?
Potential, what does it really mean? Stored up energy, a light to be seen, Is it the furthest you can go, The farthest we can see, The chance to learn and grow, To be what we can be, I found a hidden crop of people, When I was lost and sad, Saw them keep on going, Felt the potential they all had, I felt the days and months drift on, The friendships forming strong, I saw them struggle and still move on, Sing their souls out in a song, I wanted to find out more about me, The disabilities that I face, I felt I'd found the limits of me, Was alone without a place, My ex girlfriend made me believe in magic, And in the power of the world, But our empty story ended tragically, As the loss and pain unfurled, One thing after another hit, I felt lost beyond my limit, I sunk down low, I didn't fit, And I fell into a pit, It was then I saw the sun and moon, The grass and trees and birds, It was then I saw you all and soon, An Angel's voice was heard, I saw the potential of the world, Melody of earth and sky, I watched the black holes form and swirl, I saw nurture in your eyes, I remembered the promises I'd made myself, The child that hides inside, I made some choices to protect myself, Saw the rising, falling tide, I felt the weight of all I bore, The gods that called my name, Looked my void full on and swore, Feeling it could be tamed, I began to feel a place I loved, A people who I felt at home with, I felt the skies drifting above, And I knew that I could live, The potential every one of you hold, Is like the promise I made myself, No limits here, or so I'm told, As we journey for form and self, I feel myself begin to act, I feel my world begin to change, I feel the joy my days have lacked, As my heart and soul rearrange, The clock tick tocks, The days drift on, And I know not what they'll bring, But with you all, if we sing our songs, Then I'm sure our souls will sing.
IAN McGrath
Read Ian's winning poem.
Ian has published two poetry books and his third titled, 'Angel dust and Spirt Shards' will be out next year. He is very talented.

Day - Beautiful Aberystwyth
Boss sceney on our way to Aberystwyth When we got there one of the buses was stuck when we had to park so we had to reverse backwards into a back garden to get the van facing the right way for us to get down to the promenade. We went into 2 groups some of us walked up the mountain and some of us went on the train. There was a café at the top of the mountain and we had lovely ice cream and some drinks. There was a telescope overlooking the bay,we found it very interesting looking out through the telecscope We all took turns to have a look through One of the staff little legs (Caroline) had to get a boost up to see through the telescope She found people swimming at the beach We all went together to look from the top of the mountain at the amazing view We noticed a disc golf, also we noticed that there was a small mini golf We then split into 2 groups some of us went on the mountain train to go down and some of us walked back down It was a hard time getting up for some of are members they really made a success to get up and down the mountain. After our walk down the mountain we all had our lunch. We went on a long walk across the promenade at the end nearby the beach end we found an arcade. Sports Report
By: Luke and John Hawkins
Our Darts tournament is well underway. Aaron sorted it out and put the teams together. There is a league and we are getting near to semi finals. Watch this space to see who we will crown Champions.
Both teams did us proud at the St Helens football tournament. We came 2nd and 3rd in our group. The best part of the day was definitely making friends and having fun especially with Buzz Hub St Helens who we joined for a friendly game and a penalty shoot out at the end.
We had our first competetive Boccia match with Daisy
Inclusive. Our team was made up of Taylor, Ashlea, John Doyle, Chloe Connor, Emma and Andrew. The whole team were amazing. It was very cold so we had to go inside to warm up. Bothe teams won a match each, so it was a draw.
