California is now experiencing the effects of a climate crisis: hotter summers with world record-breaking temperatures, even more devastating fire seasons, extreme droughts, and rising sea levels that erode our coastlines.
Scientists tell us that greenhouse gasses released by human activities, like landfilling food and yard waste, cause climate change.
To respond to this climate crisis, California is implementing statewide organic waste recycling and surplus food recovery.
Organic waste in landfills emits 20% of the state's methane, a climate super-pollutant 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide. These air pollutants, like PM 2.5, contribute to health conditions like asthma.
Organics like food scraps, yard trimmings, paper, and cardboard make up half of what Californians dump in landfills.
Reducing Short-Lived Climate Super Pollutants like organic waste will have the fastest impact on the climate crisis.
In September 2016, California set a methane emissions reduction target (SB1383 Lara, Chapter395, Statutes of 2016) in a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP).The targets for the state:
Reduce organic waste disposal 75% by 2025.
For people to consume at least 20% of currently disposed surplus food by 2025.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (Baja) has absolutely no shortage of fun things to do and great places to eat! It amazes me that even though I visit each spring, my group and I always seem to find a new restaurant, activity, or relaxation spot. Here are a couple of recent finds I'd like to share!
We've explored the Sea of Cortez, heading out of the marina many times with happy people onboard, waving and excitedfor what's to come, so this time, we decided to book an excursion on the Caborey, a luxurious catamaran with an open upper deck and enclosed lower deck area. The cruise provides an excellent view of "El Arco," Land's End, Lover's Beach, and more. With a couple of different cruise packages available, we chose the SunsetDinner Cruisefrom 5 to 10pm.A delicious buffet of fajitas with homemade tortillas, rice, and beans, complete with authentic churros and an open bar, was well worth the price.
On the upper deck, you'll find a live band, where you can dance and enjoy the sights. Dinner, snorkeling, and whale-watching cruises can be booked at Caborey.com.
Cabo offers plenty of authentic, fantastic Mexican food, but one of my favorites is
SalvatoreG's. A longtimestaple ofCabo San Lucas, it is one of thebest Italian restaurants in Baja. They have a porketta on the menu, which we're told is a two-day preparation process for the mostflavorful, tender pork you've ever had.Accompanied by their house fettuccineAlfredo and asparagus, you'll think you're dining in Italy! Lasagna is another delicious specialty that comes in at a twopound serving. We lookforward to it on each trip, and mostof the enormousportions are easily shared.
If you're looking for a world-class resort, look no further than the Corazon Cabo. Located in the heart of Medano Beach and an easy walking distance to downtown, it's a beautifulretreatfrom the hustle andbustleof the beach area and is an excellent choicefor singles or families.BajaBrewing Company, at thetop ofCorazon, offers oneofthebest views in Cabo.
