DEAR ART AND BOURBON LOVERS, Welcome to the Speed Art Museum’s 3rd annual “Art of Bourbon,” an event that has quickly become the premier nonprofit bourbon and whiskey auction in the nation. The Art of Bourbon uses Kentucky’s greatest product to support Kentucky’s greatest museum and its mission to bring the people of Louisville and Kentucky together through art. In the middle of a global pandemic, we have reimagined this vital event— our 2nd biggest fundraiser of the year—as a completely virtual event, and we are thrilled to have you join us remotely. This event would not be possible without the generosity of Kentucky’s distillers, nearly all of whom have offered entire barrels, rare bottles, experiences (and even an original Dale Chihuly artwork) for us to auction tonight. Many individual collectors have dug deep into their cellars for hard-to-find bottles, some going back to the 1950s and 1960s. We look forward to making history with these offerings tonight! Successful bidders tonight will not just win something rare and valuable; they will be supporting the mission of the Speed and our exhibitions, including our monumental exhibition Andy Warhol: Revelation, which will continue attracting great crowds (at limited capacity and wearing masks) through November 29th. The Speed is proud to share this first exhibition to comprehensively examine the Pop artist’s Catholic faith in relation to his artistic production. The proceeds from this year’s auction will also support Isabelle de Borchgrave: Fashioning Art from Paper, from February – August 2021—an exhibition that combines fashion, painting, and craft and has broken records at other American museums with what Vogue magazine calls “objects to marvel at.” We are extremely grateful for our Presenting Sponsor: The Glenview Trust Company, a master distiller of multi-generational assets that is supporting us for the second straight year. Other generous sponsors include Kaplan Johnson Abate & Bird and Northern Trust. I also want to thank Hell or High Water, Louisville’s storied speakeasy that has sponsored this event every year since its creation. So many collectors have assisted us that I worry about excluding any but want to call out two who deserve it: Marc Abrams has given us both bottles and introductions, and opened secret doors, like no one else, we thank you Marc. And Brett Hale, a longtime Speed Trustee, has been a trusted advisor and ringleader at Beam Suntory for an array of gifts that continue to make the “Art of Bourbon” an event, both spirited and philanthropic, like no other. I am beyond grateful for everyone who made and will make tonight possible—cheers to you all!

PEERLESS VERTICAL

An incredible collection of Peerless Rye and Bourbon all signed by Master Distiller Caleb Kilburn, and Corky Taylor. PEERLESS SINGLE BARREL BOURBON, NECTER The nose leads with warm cedar, honey, and herbs. The cedar sweetens as the nose continues to open. The first sip features sweet, malted sugar and dark fruit. Cocoa soon follows with floral sweetness lingering. The second sip adds some spice as orange zest and oak syrup join. The cocoa is more prominent but features a tasted element. The finish offers a burst of dark fruit before returning to a thick oak-molasses character, dotted with florals.

4

PEERLESS SINGLE BARREL BOURBON, GRILLED FRUIT Brown sugar, orange tea, and herbs jump out in the first nose. Aromas of mild tobacco join but the molasses/ orange complex is dominant. The first sip is spicy with oak, cinnamon, and herbs. The mouthfeel surges moments after, as a wave of lime, sweet cinnamon, and sweet vanilla wash over the palate creating a cola flavor. The second sip accents this transition with an oak syrup, further enhancing the mouthfeel. Elements of cocoa, cream, and toasted marshmallow enhance a slow fade of the palate in an enduring finish. PEERLESS SINGLE BARREL RYE, OLE MOLE Hand-selected by Whisky Chicks. Tasting notes of spiced tea, honey, spicy chocolate, and orange slices. PEERLESS SINGLE BARREL RYE, AGED IN ABSINTHE Peerless Single Barrel Rye Finished in Copper & Kings Absinthe Barrels is a collaborative bottling between the two Louisville-based distilleries. Peerless uses a sweet mash rather than a traditional sour mash to make its rye. After its initial maturation, it is finished in a Copper & Kings absinthe barrel. PEERLESS SINGLE BARREL RYE, FLAMBE The nose leads with herbal sweetness and cedar. The first sip gives notes of dry dark fruit with the essence of Luxardo cherries. Citrus zest is laced in, but dark caramelized sugar is prominent. The second sip offers toasted cinnamon. The candied, burnt, and dark fruit characters carry out for an amazing finale. 06 OLD TAYLOR 1960

Distilled in what is now the Castle & Key distillery near Frankfort, Old Taylor was one of the premiere bourbons of its time. This bourbon is named after Colonel E.H. Talyor, who was said to have been one of the main proponents of the Bottled in Bond act. This 6-year-old bourbon is smooth and balanced with a subtle sweetness at the front.

WHISTLEPIG DUO

Two of the finest bottles that WhistlePig Farm has ever produced. WHISTLEPIG – BOSS HOG VI – THE SAMURAI SCIENTIST Single Barrel, Bottled at Proof, Powerfully Complex, Distinctly Unique from Anything We’ve Done Before. Stupendous. On the rare occasion that Dave Pickerell’s five promises are realized, we release a whiskey that epitomizes WhistlePig’s odyssey to unlock the potential of Rye Whiskey. The Boss Hog Edition is the first American Whiskey finished using Japanese Umeshu, the result of a true collaboration between WhistlePig and Kitaya brewery on Japan’s Kyushu island. This well-aged Straight Rye Whiskey was created using koji fermentation. Each bottle is adorned with The Samurai Scientist—Jkichi Takamine—who pioneered koji fermentation in the American whisky industry over a century ago. Each bottle barrel is bottled at strength, between 120 – 122 proof. WHISTLEPIG 18-YEAR DOUBLE MALT RYE To harness these flavors for our oldest expression of WhistlePig yet, we selected a whiskey distilled from 79% rye, 15% malted rye, and 6% malted barley. These grains form a harmony that spans the flavor spectrum, at once soft and floral, rich and savory, and full of spice. Its complexity is only heightened after 18 years in the barrel. ELIJAH CRAIG TRIO

The history of Elijah Craig is the history of Bourbon. Reverend Elijah Craig was a Baptist preacher and active character in 1800s Kentucky. He was an educator, road builder, land speculator, and built the first paper and wool mills in Georgetown, KY. But it was his gift as a distiller and entrepreneur that established his place in history as The Father of Bourbon. ELIJAH CRAIG BARREL PROOF BATCH B250 To sip our Barrel Proof Bourbon is to experience Bourbon in its purest form—uncut, straight from the barrel, and without chill filtering. Each bottle is hand-labeled with its unique proof and batch number, but the nose, taste, and finish of every sip is pure Elijah Craig. We are proud to say that remarkable consistency earned us the award of Whisky Advocate’s “Whisky of the Year.”

12

ELIJAH CRAIG 18-YEAR-OLD SINGLE BARREL Ready to experience some of the oldest Bourbon barrels in Kentucky? Our 18-Year-Old Bourbon is bottled solely from the contents of one barrel, not the mingling of many. This expression of Bourbon-making craftsmanship is bold and robust. Truly a Bourbon for the avid collector, this bottle has won countless awards and is regularly listed as a top choice by those who appreciate its smooth yet complex flavor. ELIJAH CRAIG TOASTED BARREL In 1789, Elijah Craig discovered greatness when he first charred oak barrels to make Bourbon. Today, we honor his innovative spirit with Toasted Barrel: a unique expression that is charred to start and toasted to finish. This expression takes our award-winning Small Batch and finishes it in a second, custom toasted barrel for an added layer of sweet oak complexity. The result is a 94-proof Bourbon with notes of baking spices & chocolate, and a long, smooth finish. Donated by: Heaven Hill Brands

COLONEL E.H. TAYLOR BARREL PROOF & WELLER FULL PROOF

A dynamic duo of rare Buffalo Trace Bourbons from Old Town Liquors private selection. COLONEL E.H. TAYLOR BARREL PROOF Crafted from hand-selected barrels, this bourbon is bottled directly from the barrel; uncut and unfiltered at more than 125 proof. It reflects the way whiskey was produced in the days before Prohibition, when Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. was the owner of Buffalo Trace Distillery. Drawn from barrels aged in warehouses constructed over a century ago under Taylor’s watchful eye, the taste is smooth, yet powerful and uncompromising, just like its namesake.

WELLER FULL PROOF William Larue Weller developed his original bourbon recipe with wheat, rather than rye. Bottled at the same 114 proof the spirit was when it entered into the barrel, this non-chill filtered wheated bourbon forgoes chill filtration to preserve all the naturally occurring residual oils and flavors that occur during the distillation and aging process (potentially making it appear cloudy at cold temperatures). This bourbon balances a rich mouthfeel, with robust notes of vanilla and oak. A whiskey that satisfies the demand of the non-chill filtered whiskey enthusiasts, honoring the man who made wheated bourbon legendary. Donated by: Old Town Liquors

NEELEY FAMILY DISTILLERY SAN FRANCISCO GOLD, LUCKY SEVEN BATCH 1 VERTICAL, & BROUGH BROTHERS BOTTLES

NEELEY FAMILY DISTILLERY SAN FRANCISCO GOLD BOTTLE, SIGNED BY ROYCE NEELEY In 1740, James Neeley illegally distilled the first Neeley Family Whiskey in America using skills passed down to him by his Irish forefathers. Our family bourbon is sweet-mashed using fresh, non-GMO local grains and pure Gallatin County, Kentucky limestone water. It is then fermented in open-top cypress at cool temperatures, allowing our yeast ample time to produce their great flavors. Royce then triple pot distills his bourbon on the grain, cutting out the impurities using his taste buds only, the traditional way. LUCKY SEVEN BATCH 1 VERTICAL (“THE JOKESTER”, “THE HOLD UP”, “THE PROPRIETER”) Co-Founders Michael Lahalih and John Pals share a passion for great Bourbon and old movies. So, these two Chicagoans did what passionate enthusiasts do: they founded a line of premium Bourbons branded after one of the most famous movie studio stages in the world—Warner Brothers Stage 7. So many great films have been made there over the years, the locals named it “Lucky 7.” Lucky Seven Spirits curates premium casks from the top distilleries to craft Oscar-worthy performances for Best Bourbon in a Leading Role. And each bottle has a peel-back “ticket” directing you to exclusive online video content. 2 SIGNED BOTTLES OF BROUGH BROTHERS The Brough Brothers bourbon features a medium body flavor with fruity notes of green apple and pear and subtle hints of ginger and nutmeg, shining with a golden honey color. We designed our bottle to present our culture to the world through art. Each drawing represents a piece of Kentucky’s vibrant culture: Bourbon, Basketball, Boxing, and Horse Racing. 13 KENTUCKY PAR BOTTLE #4 & JIM BEAM KENTUCKY DERBY 100TH ANNIVERSARY DECANTER

KENTUCKY PAR BOTTLE #4 After finding a dusty pint of Kentucky Par in his father’s desk, C.S. Radford III thought it would be great fun to bring the brand back to life after 60 years, and with the help of two lifelong friends, they have done just that. This is the fourth bottle of the first new batch of Kentucky Par in over 60 years. It is signed by the three founders.

CALUMET FARM VERTICAL & NEW RIFF RYE VERTICAL

Calumet Farm has owned and aged its premium stock of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey for over a decade. Over this time, barrels have been sampled and ‘picked-over,’ much like trainers reviewing a sire. Calumet Farm Single Rack Black uses extremely small batches of just 19 barrels for our Single Rack Black program. Available as a 12 or 14-year-old bourbon, all barrels used are aged in a single, center-cut rack from the ideal maturation location and conditions inside the rick house. These expressions of the Calumet Farm Bourbon family are a true convergence of craftsmanship and flavor. New Riff Distilling opened in 2014 in Newport, Kentucky with a rye-centric ethos. Their devotion to this small grain shows in their acclaimed high-rye Bourbon, and certainly in their portfolio of rye whiskeys—a complete set of which is offered here tonight for the first time. Enjoy this unique portfolio of Kentucky Straight Rye whiskeys from an up-and-coming sour mash distillery. HEAVEN HILL’S FINEST

An incredible collection of 3 rare 2020 releases from Heaven Hill. OLD FITZGERALD BOTTLED-IN-BOND SPRING 9-YEAR-OLD Each spring and fall, a new edition to the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series is released. Inspired by an original 1950’s Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, the packaging and series honor both the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand and the historic Bottled-in-Bond designation. The Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree, as the brand was first registered in 1884 and was eventually sold to “Pappy” Van Winkle during Prohibition. In 1999, Heaven Hill bought the brand and began distilling it at Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY. WILLIAM HEAVENHILL 13-YEAR-OLD BOTTLED-IN-BOND Paying homage to our prized third edition, a Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon, this 8th edition is also a Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon, but aged a little longer at 13 years on the 4th floor of Rickhouse AA at our Schenley location, once the site of the old Fairfield and Schenley distilleries. Only 35 barrels qualified for this esteemed Bottled-In-Bond selection, all with a barrel entry date of 10/19/2006. This non-chill filtered small batch makes the perfect addition to any whiskey connoisseur’s collection. PARKER’S HERITAGE HEAVY CHAR The first ever Rye Whiskey of the Parker’s Heritage Collection, the 13th edition consists of 75 specialty barrels that were charred for a full minute and a half, as opposed to our traditional 40 seconds. These “Level 5” barrels were aged for 8 years, 9 months on the seventh floor of Rickhouse Y. There, the heavier char allowed the whiskey to penetrate further into the barrel, extracting deep notes of spice and wood, and resulting in an elevation of the spicy, distinctive character of our traditional Rye Whiskey mashbill. It is bottled without chill filtration at 105 proof. Donated by: Heaven Hill Brands

BLACK BOWMORE 1964 50-YEAR

Black Bowmore® 1964 50 Year Old The Last Cask One of the most rare and sought-after single malt whiskies ever created, the last cask rediscovered of Black Bowmore® 1964 spent an astonishing 50 years maturing in Bowmore’s legendary No.1 Vaults, one of the world’s oldest Scotch maturation warehouses, making this captivating whisky the oldest expression of the Black Bowmore series. Other acclaimed releases were in 1993 (29 Year Old), 1994 (30 Year Old), 1995 (31 Year Old), 2007 (42 Year Old), and the first collaborative creation between Bowmore and Aston Martin to be released this year: Black Bowmore DB5 1964. This exceptionally rare offering – a mere 159 bottles were produced – would be the jewel in the crown of any collection. The tale of the 159 bottles of the half-century-old last cask of Black Bowmore is as beguiling as it is complex. On November 5, 1964, seven first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead casks (3708, 3710, 3713, 3714, 3715, 3716, 3717) were filled to mature meticulously in the No. 1 Vaults. Every cask and spirit unites to create a special aging relationship and, in October 2002, it was discovered that casks 3708 and 3714 were quickly losing volume to the angel’s share. As such, they were combined into a single cask to preserve the precious cargo. In 2007, 827 bottles of Black Bowmore 42 Year Old from the other casks were released. Fortuitously as it turns out, the previously married cask was overlooked and was left undisturbed in the coolest, darkest corner of the No. 1 Vaults to continue its magical aging process. There the story ended, or so it was thought, until this last cask of Black Bowmore was rediscovered when trawling through the stock ledgers in 2014. Distillery Manager David Turner, whose Grandfather worked on the original bottling over 50 years ago, said “Black Bowmore is one of those whiskies that are celebrated by collectors and aficionados around the world. To have Black Bowmore available for auction is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” A refined whisky that is as beautiful inside as out, Black Bowmore 1964 is presented in a beautiful hand-blown bottle created by renowned sculpting studio Glasstorm with cork tops made by Scottish Silver. Each bottle is filled and sealed by hand and encased in a handmade Scottish oak cabinet created by John Galvin of John Galvin Design. Donated by: Beam Suntory

ANGEL’S ENVY KENTUCKY STRAIGHT BOURBON FINISHED IN JAPANESE MIZURANA OAK CASKS

On August 19th of 2010, Lincoln, Wes, and Kyle Henderson filled their first ruby port wine barrel with Kentucky Straight Bourbon. 10 years later, Angel’s Envy is celebrating that momentous anniversary with a blend of two Kentucky straight bourbons in a 50/50 ratio (four year and nine year), finished for an additional two years in hand-selected, charred, new Japanese Mizunara oak casks. Each collectable bottle is packaged in a cut crystal reusable decanter. Wes and Kyle Henderson chose a Mizunara oak finish to honor Master Distiller Lincoln’s love of Japanese culture. Rare and costly, Mizunara is more porous than other oaks, allowing easier passage for the whiskey into and out of the wood. This imparts rich notes of sandalwood, coconut, aromatic smoke, spice, peppercorn, and clove. Angel’s Envy never shies away from hard work if it results in an exceptional whiskey, and this release truly embraces Lincoln’s pioneering founder’s philosophy. Donated by: Angel’s Envy 34

OLD CARTER BOURBON & BARRELHEAD

Old Carter Whiskey Co. is a passion project by husband and wife team Mark & Sherri Carter, whose fine Napa Valley wines have scored nine perfect 100’s with critics. The whiskey business found them several years ago when they partnered with a Kentucky friend to resurrect a long dormant brand. That brand sold in 2017, but the Carters were hooked on whiskey and the state of Kentucky, so they started Old Carter Whiskey Co. This package comes with 2 bottles of Old Carter Straight Bourbon Whiskey and 1 Old Carter Barrelhead, all signed by Mark & Sherri. Donated by: Old Carter Whiskey Co.

BARRELL CRAFT SPIRITS BOURBON & WHISKEY

The barrels harvested for this limited release were selected for their refined properties and extraordinary flavor profile. The complex 15-year-old bourbon was blended and bottled at peak maturity so you can experience its true flavor. It is a perfect union of grain and barrel, with an old, oaky nose and a deep, honey-maple palate that reveals the lushness of the grain. At 25-years-old, Barrell Craft Spirits Whiskey offers the depth of highly-matured whiskey complemented by a Sercial Madeira barrel finish. The underlying dry nuttiness of Sercial Madeira adds a new dimension to the whiskey that is exceptional. Donated by: Barrell Craft Spirits

BUFFALO TRACE SERIES

FIVE of Buffalo Trace’s finest bottles in one package. » Old Rip Van Winkle 10-Year is a wonderful bourbon, bottled as close to barrel proof as possible. With a splash of Kentucky limestone well-water when emptying the barrels bottling, this rare whiskey is as smooth as you will find. » Weller 12-Year is part of the wheated bourbon family and is aged far longer than most wheated bourbons. This offering is a smooth, easy-going and balanced bourbon with a beautiful deep bronze color. » Weller Full Proof – William Larue Weller developed his original bourbon recipe with wheat, rather than rye. » Blanton’s Single Barrel Select – Two Bottles In the winter of 1881, Albert Bacon Blanton was born into one of the first families of bourbon history. At the age of sixteen, he started work in the Distillery as an office boy and fast became a leading pioneer in the development of bourbon. From the time he became company president in 1921 until his retirement in 1952, his Distillery expanded from 44 to 144 buildings to become the largest Distillery of its day. HEAVEN’S DOOR – THE BOOTLEG SERIES, 2019

Introducing the first expression in The Bootleg Series by Heaven’s Door. Each offering in the series features one of Dylan’s paintings on a custom ceramic bottle. The outer package will represent each volume to be collected over time and displayed on a bookcase or mantle. Each package is numbered and contains a hidden gold collectible coin. The 2019 Edition is a 26-year aged whisky finished in Japanese Mizunara Oak barrels—two rarities together, a whisky aged for 26 years and a highly-precious Japanese wood vintage. Mizunara Oak is one of the rarest and most expensive types of oak in the world and must be at least 200-yearsold before being harvested for barrel aging. Tasting Notes: Inherent flavors created in whisky from Mizunara are sandalwood, coconut, and dingxiang (cloves). Donated by: Heaven’s Door Distillery 41
