DerekStone,DirectorofPrograms, sharedanupdateaboutthenewlyreleasedfinalplansfor theMacEwanPondrestorationproject. Henotedthatthescopefortherestorationhasbeen adjustedsignificantlyfromearlierplans. Thenewplanfocusesprimarilyonimprovementsin accessibilitybycreatingnewboardwalks, benchesandinterpretivesignage, andbypaving pathwaysthatcurrentlyhavesoftsurfaces. Theoriginalplanhadalsoaimedtoincreasethe expanseofopenwaterinthepondbymeansofmechanicaldredgingtoremoveaccumulated biomassfrominvasivephragmitesgrasses. However, hydrogeologicalstudiesconducted overthelasttwoyearsindicatedthatsuchdredgingcouldcausemoreharmthangood.
