A farewell to Father Fausto You might have heard the news: After more than 30 years at St. Martha Catholic Church, Father Fausto Stampiglia is calling it a career. It gives us no pleasure to report this, but the longtime fixture of Sarasota’s religious community officially retired on May 14. He’s 86. Stampiglia has connected with countless members of his flock — to say nothing of the generations of children that have come out of St. Martha Catholic School over the years — and Bishop of the Diocese of Venice Frank Dewane wished him a healthy and happy retirement. Wish him the same good fortune if you run into him; we certainly will.

Skateboard celebration The Ilardi twins are well known in Sarasota communities, and rightfully so: Jake Ilardi has been skating in the area for years and most recently showcased his skills at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. His brother, Nate, has put his skills into a video and production company that’s done work with the Women’s National Basketball Academy and IMG Academy. Jake even went so far as to raise $15,000 for a new skate ramp in Payne Park. The brothers were recognized May 16 when Mayor Erik Arroyo proclaimed May 16 “Jake and Nate Ilardi Day.”
