Anna Ferguson

Deputy in need The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to rally around a deputy who lost nearly everything she owned in a fire. Sheriff’s Deputy Anna Ferguson was asleep in her home around 3 p.m. on Jan. 22, when her 21-year-old stepson woke her and told her there was a fire. When her husband returned from picking up their 7- and 11-year-old kids from school, their home and Anna’s car were destroyed. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the community for donations to help the family. Visit gofundme.com/fergusonfamily-lost-home-in-fire.

Temple Beth Israel’s grand evening. INSIDE

Andrew Lakey learned about music while in the hospital receiving treatment for brain cancer. He overcame his illness in 2011. Now, Lakey’s started his own nonprofit, Music Heals Us, which raises money to buy ukuleles and delivers them to children in the hospital. Now 18, Lakey and other high school students are organizing a fundraiser called Shred the Love to continue the mission. The event, scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Music Compound at 1751 Cattlemen Road, will include a silent auction, social hour and performances from some kids that Lakey has helped. Tickets can be purchased at musichealsus.org.
