Another kind of wedding band Lakewood Ranch resident Kevin Swan pulled off a proposal to remember Oct. 28 at Mandeville Beer Garden in Sarasota. Swan, who has ALS, enlisted the help of the Southeast High School marching band to pop the big question during what Swan’s girlfriend, Shaina Frisch, thought was an impromptu performance. But then the band played her favorite song, “Hey, Soul Sister” by Train, and Frisch grew suspicious. The finale did not disappoint. Organization salutes police In a pair of honors highlighting community policing, the International Association of Chiefs of Police recognized two Sarasota Police Department programs at its annual conference last week. The SPD received the 2017 IACP Leadership in Human and Civil Rights Award for its efforts assisting Sarasota’s homeless, and the 2017 IACP/ BodyWorn Leadership in Law Enforcement Volunteer Programs Award. These are the first two honors the SPD has received from the IACP.
