Lauren Weems wants her neighbors to know that Halloween is making a comeback at Indian Beach-Sapphire Shores. Weems said in the past, families would go to other neighborhoods to trick or treat. But Weems, along with other moms on her street, wants that to change this year. They are encouraging their neighbors to leave on their lights Oct. 31, join in on the Halloween spirit and get to know their neighbors. “Who doesn’t love seeing a historic neighborhood come to life?” Weems said. “We have so many new families in the area, and we love creating fun experiences for our kids while also getting to know our community better.”

Red tide raptor

After witnessing the thousands of dead sea animals scattered along the beach during this year’s red tide outbreak, artist David Skraggs wanted to find a way to raise awareness. He collected whatever he found on the beach — fish skulls, crab claws, horseshoe crabs, eels — and created the “Red Tide Raptor.” The process involved a lot of bleaching. “It was a way to bring attention to the devastation to our coastal community,” Skraggs said. His works will be shown at Historic Spanish Pointe through Dec. 31.
