Doctors Hospital of Sarasota honored two of its furry friends Aug. 15 for their combined 600 hours of service to the hospital. Captain Red, or “Cappy,” and his owner, Dee Covello, have volunteered at the hospital since 2010, donating more than 500 hours. Likewise, Gem and her owner, Gayle Guynup, have volunteered since 2014 and have donated more than 100 hours. Both canines and their owners received pins and certificates for their services.

Temple Sinai’s Shabbat service Aug. 18 was a time for healing. The temple was joined by Church of the Palms to show community concern for the attacks in Charlottesville and Barcelona. Church of the Palms senior pastor, the Rev. Stephen McConnell, spoke of the two institution’s strong relationship and stressed community spirit and intolerance for anti-Semitism. The pair said a collective prayer for peace.
