‘COSÌ FAN TUTTE’
When: Oct. 31-Nov. 15
Where: Sarasota Opera House
Tickets: $42-$175 Visit: SarasotaOpera.org.
Sarasota Opera revives fall opera with Mozart’s “Così fan tutte.” The humorous tale follows two soldiers who test the fidelity of the sisters to whom they are engaged, only to learn the brides-to-be have a few tricks up their sleeves. Sarasota Opera is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Opera House and “Così fan tutte” kicks off what promises to be a festive season.

‘MARK
When: Dec. 19-20
Where: Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Tickets: $56-$106 Visit: VanWezel.org.
Guess what? John-Boy from “The Waltons” grew up, and now he’s old enough to play Mark Twain. There are a lot of Mark Twain tribute shows out there, but Richard Thomas is the only actor authorized to play the iconic 19th century writer in “Mark Twain Tonight!” Hal Holbrook arranged the writings and speeches of the author whose real name was Samuel Clemons to create the hit Broadway show in the 1960s and 1970s. Thomas was recently seen on Broadway himself in “Our Town” and will return to the Great White Way in spring 2026 in David Lindsay-Abaire’s “The Balusters.”
MASTERWORKS: SYMPHONIC DANCES
When: Nov. 7-9
Where: Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Tickets: $39 and up Visit: SarasotaOrchestra.org.
You’ll want to be in the room when Giancarlo Guerrero conducts his first Masterworks concert as maestro of the Sarasota Orchestra. Last season, Guerrero was incoming music director; this season he’s here for good. If you’ve never seen Guerrero, prepare to be amazed by his passion and energy. The program features the titular Rachmaninoff composition, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with piano soloist Alessio Bax. The concert opens with Jennifer Higdon’s “blue cathedral.”
‘ALL IS CALM: THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE OF 1914’
When: Dec. 3-19
Where: The Ringling’s Historic Asolo Theater Tickets: $45-$71 Visit: AsoloRep.org.

JASON MARSALIS AND NICOLE HENRY
When: Nov. 1
Where: Riverview Performing Arts Center Tickets: $72 and up Visit: SarasotaJazzClub.org.
Whether you love jazz or not, your ears prick up when you hear the name Marsalis. In this Jazz Club of Sarasota concert, drummer and vibraphonist Jason Marsalis pays tribute to his father, New Orleans pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis. Sharing the bill is Nicole Henry, a star in her own right who has taken her quartet to 40 countries.

If you didn’t see Peter Rothstein’s moving tribute to a little-known chapter of World War I in its sold-out run last year, don’t miss it this year. Better yet, see it again. Rothstein, producing artistic director of Asolo Repertory Theatre, based “All is Calm” on the true story of soldiers who put down their arms for one night to honor Christ’s birth. Their longing for peace comes to life through excerpts of letters and Christmas carols sung in English, French and German. This production is being staged in The Ringling’s Historic Asolo Theater, a jewelbox venue whose interiors were rescued from a palace in Asolo, Italy. It’s the perfect setting for a Yuletide respite.

Ringling College TOWN HALL Celebrates Its 45th Season
Back in 1981, the Ringling College Library Association held the first TOWN HALL Speaker Series, creating a beloved Sarasota institution that celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2026.
The four-month-long series runs from January to April every year and features different speakers each month. In 2026, attendees can look forward to seeing a varied group of luminaries from the worlds of politics, entertainment and conservation. Among the scheduled speakers are Former Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, documentarian Ken Burns and CNN legal analyst Laura Coates. While most of these people can be seen on television regularly as a host or an interviewee, the TOWN HALL series offers a unique experience.
“There’s nothing like hearing directly from experts,” said Lauren Kurnov, Executive Director of Ringling College TOWN HALL. “It really brings leading news stories and hot topics to life.”
The format itself helps accomplish this goal. Speakers can choose

between a 45-minute keynote address or a 60-minute fireside chat. In both scenarios, audience members can submit questions ahead of time, so they really feel a connection with the speaker and the topic.
Another way the audience is engaged in the TOWN HALL series is by suggesting topics and speakers for subsequent years. An advisory committee also weighs in, and Kurnov scours national lists like TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, along with other sources, before narrowing the list down to five speakers.
“I think it’s really serving a critically important role in terms of what makes for a healthy exchange of ideas in society”
“It’s a matter of figuring out what our audience is interested in, what are the the most noteworthy speakers of today, and then, what together will make for a balanced lineup where there’s something for everyone,” Kurnov said of curating the speakers for each year.
The TOWN HALL Speaker Series was originally developed to raise funds for the Ringling School of Art & Design’s first library. Since then, the Ringling College Library Association continued to fund the library, raising enough proceeds to build the current Alfred Goldstein Library in 2017. In 2023, the association merged with the college itself, and the TOWN HALL now raises funds for student scholarships, as well as the library’s collections and programs.
The community at large also benefits from the series because it serves as a place for dialogue about important issues.
“I think it’s really serving a critically important role in terms of what makes for a healthy exchange of ideas in society,” Kurnov said.
Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a member or subscribing to the series should visit www.ringlingcollegetownhall.org.
