COMMUNITY GARDEN DIGS IN

A crowning achievement Annadele Ferguson Jackson, of Cornell University, has been an active member of Sarasota’s chapter of Tri Delta for more than 30 years. Jackson recently received her Diamond Circle badge, recognizing 75 years of membership in the international collegiate sorority. However, someone was present to make the moment even more special, as she had the chance to share the stage with guest speaker Delilah Wallenda Troffer, a member of the Flying Wallendas group of circus performers and the mother of Nik Wallenda. That involved the opportunity for Jackson to try on Troffer’s feathered headdress. Jackson served as president of the chapter from 1997 to 1999, among other offices.

Marching to the nationals After an extensive two-year assessment process, Sarasota Military Academy was selected to compete in the National High School Drill Team Championships, a first for the school. At the competition held May 2-3 in Daytona Beach, SMA received notable rankings, with the color guard placing seventh, the 7th Armed Platoon led by Lillian Wallace placing 20th, and the dual exhibition placing 23rd. SMA was one of eight Florida schools present. In a statement provided by the school, drill Instructor Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Lee said, “In our first year competing at the Army Drill Nationals, we performed very well and represented SMA with pride.’’
