+ Special delivery East County Observer Sports Editor Jen Blanco and her husband, Brian, rang in the New Year with a special bundle of joy. The couple welcomed their newest Ohio State Buckeye fan — Cameron Michael Blanco — to the family at 7:17 a.m. Dec. 24. Born at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Cameron weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 20 inches long. But his big brother, Brendan, 4, may be the proudest member of the family.

+ Perfect pergola! Braden River Middle School’s Joanne Torlucci should probably be a contestant on “The Price is Right.” The East County resident took the top award for the Observer Media Group’s “View for the Clue” contest. This fall, in partnership with White Aluminum, the Observer inserted a clue describing a Sarasota or Manatee County landmark into our Daily Headlines email (visit yourobserver.com to sign up for yours — it’s free!). We then recapped the weekly clues during our “FYI Friday” video. If someone guessed the correct location, he or she was entered into a drawing for a backyard pergola from White Aluminum. Torlucci won the honors. The winning location was the Arthur Row Boat and Lighthouse home in Gillespie Park, in Sarasota.
