THE YEAR IN
+ Santa: Sarasota’s newest snowbird? Now that all the presents have been delivered and the cookies eaten, the jolly man in red could surely use a break. This year Santa Claus ended his tour around the globe in sunny Siesta Key. Rumor has it he landed his sleigh at the SarasotaBradenton International Airport and made a beeline for the beach. We spotted Mr. Claus starting his vacation with a stroll along the shoreline. Perhaps he was scoping out beachside real estate for a vacation home for him and the missus.

+ In the spirit of giving Selah Freedom and Turning Points in Bradenton were the recipients of $7,500 each, just in time for the holidays. The donations were from the proceeds of the Lakewood Ranch Country Club silent auction in November and the Sarasota Newcomers Club’s annual fashion show. Both charities have gift-matching programs in place that doubled the initial donations to $15,000 total, with each charity receiving $7,500.
