EAST COUNTY — The expression, “The sooner the better,” is an understatement for the Manatee County School District. After the School Board extended an offer to Dr. Justin Terry — a Texan with 13 years of educator experience — for the principal

position at Lakewood Ranch High School June 10. Terry declined the job. He had accepted the deputy superintendent of schools position in his current district, in Wylie, Texas. “Sometimes other opportunities arise when you let someone

know you might leave for another job,” said Cynthia Saunders, executive director of secondary schools. “The candidate made the best decision for his family, and we have to respect that.” Now, the district must fill Lakewood Ranch High’s retiring

+ Primrose at LWR celebrates graduates Primrose at Lakewood Ranch celebrated the graduation of its pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students with commencement ceremonies June 7. Sixty-six children donned caps and gowns for the ceremonies held at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall. Festivities included special songs and performances by the children.

Road privatization under review Some Lakewood Ranch CDD supervisors want to own CDD roads to monitor visitors’ access, but the idea faces many hurdles. LAKEWOOD RANCH — If Lakewood Ranch Country Club residents want complete ownership of their gates and to oversee who goes in and out of them, they need to take control of the roads. The path to privatizing the roads, though, is daunting.

During Community Development District meetings June 12, at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, CDD board members revealed a group of CDD board members formed a committee to investigate the possibility of privatizing roads within CDDs 2, 5 and 6. All

three of the CDDs, which are located within the boundaries of the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, are gated. But, because the roads were paid for with a bond through the
