LAKEWOOD RANCH — East County residents and the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch soon will be tipping their glasses for local charities as the Rotary Club hosts its 10th annual Suncoast Food & Wine Fest. The event will be held from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Sarasota Polo Club, 8201 Polo Club Lane, Sarasota. Tickets cost $60 per person and must be purchased in advance. The price includes sampling more than 300 American and international wines and food from 35 of the area’s top restaurants, including the Lazy Lobster, Blu Smoke Island Grill, 15 South, Ezra Café, Michael’s on East, Paris to Budapest and Ruth’s Chris Steak House, among

Fear Factor Two Bradenton businessmen have opened the area’s first professional haunted attraction in the East County.

+ Imagine principal makes trip to the roof Imagine School Principal Stephen Sajewski spent part of the day Oct. 21 on the school’s roof to reward students for raising more than $10,000 during the school’s recent book fair. Sajewski had agreed to read on the roof for one second for every dollar raised. Students easily passed the school’s goal of $9,000.

+ Temple Emanu-El hosts fall festival Members of Temple EmanuEl enjoyed special Wild Westthemed family time Oct. 15 as the temple’s preschool hosted a fall festival fundraiser. The event featured a pumpkin patch, bounce house and inflatables, face painting and more. East County residents Daniela and Chef Matthew Kaskey, of Catering by Matthew, prepared and donated brisket, beef franks and other Western-style food on site. Proceeds from the event will be used for materials and instruction to enhance learning at the preschool.

IDA Supervisor Jean Stewart said. “How can you say anything about that?” IDA Chairman Tom Green said he is confident the addition of a part-time weekend maintenance technician, especially, will improve service to residents and is needed.

EAST COUNTY — Even in daylight, Shawn Troxel and Tony Cordero know how to put your nerves on edge. The duo, co-owners of the area’s first professional haunted attraction, trot down a duststricken trail at Hunsader’s Rockin’ Ranch. Tall oak trees block a view of the sky and Spanish moss dangles near eye-level.

Troxel veers off the path and heads behind a series of old wooden structures, with only the sound of his footsteps coming from somewhere on the other side. “What makes a good scare is doing the unexpected,” Troxel says, popping out around a corner. “(Setting the atmosphere) let’s you think about (what
