So long, Ms. Marker!

On Monday, Mote Marine Laboratory released subadult loggerhead turtle Ms. Marker off Lido Beach.

Ms. Marker was found floating on top of the water on April 14. Upon her rescue, Ms. Marker was lethargic and suffered neurological issues, which indicated that red tide algae toxins may have affected her. During her release, Ms. Marker was quick to head back into the water. Coincidentally, she made it home just in time for nesting season.

12 homes planned for Center for the Arts property Developer pays Ringling College $1.85 million for the 2.3-acre site.

The sale of the Longboat Key Center for the Arts site is final.

The site of the north end landmark, which opened in 1952 and closed in May, was purchased from Ringling College of Art and Design by developer Jim Clabaugh for $1.85 million. Clabaugh said he intends to build 12 singlefamily homes on the 2.3-acre site.

“We’re hoping construction of the first home will start in July,” Clabaugh said, though Town Commission approval will be required to subdivide the site into individual homesites.

The developer said the homes will be of a “coastal style,” conforming with both existing town codes and the character of other residences in the Key’s Longbeach Village neighborhood.

Clabaugh, a Key resident, has developed a number of projects on Longboat, including Tangerine Bay and Regent Place.

Clabaugh expects demolition of the arts center to begin within 10 days. He said he expects to be finished with the project in 24 to 30 months.

Since March, north end resident group LBK North has been petitioning for the town to relocate a historic cottage from the Center for the Arts property. The cottage was built in the 1930s as part of the Whitney Resort.

Two such cottages are located on the property, and Clabaugh said he has chosen to give both to local resident Michael Drake, who intends to preserve them.

Drake declined to comment on his intentions for the cottages at this time.

Larry R. Thompson, president of Ringling College, announced the sale of the center in February, adding that “a major part” of

the sale proceeds will go toward the development of a new arts facility: The Longboat Key Center for the Arts, Culture and Education, being planned at the mid-island site of the former Amore Restaurant, which closed earlier this month and plans to relocate to downtown Sarasota.

The town, the owner of the property, has already contributed $5 million toward construction of the center. The Longboat Key Foundation is working to raise $12 million to cover the remainder of construction costs.

Wa r re n S i m o n d s, the foundation’s task force chairman, expects the design process for the project will take eight to nine

months, and the subsequent construction will take about 14 months, meaning the center could be complete within two years, though development will not begin until all funds are certain.

Simonds said the foundation is currently seeking a fundraising expert to assist in drafting a “battle plan” to raise the remaining cost.

“We want to do it the right way,” Simonds said.

S te p h a n i e L e d e re r, a spokeswoman for Ringling, confirmed the college intends to “commit a substantial portion” of the sale’s proceeds to the new arts center, though the exact amount has not yet been determined.

The buyer of the Arts Center property has given two historic cottages on the property to local resident Michael Drake, who intends to preserve them.

TRASHED Longboat residents complain about beach crowds North end residents say weekends are getting worse and they want the drinking, littering, trespassing and illegal parking to stop.

or Bob Bunting, it's all a matter of numbers.

Numbers of people crowding into Longboat Key's north end beaches, often parking illegally, drinking and leaving behind a mess for someone else to clean up.

“We don’t want thousands of people on a beach that won’t support hundreds,” said Bunting, a resident of 360 North.

Memorial Day weekend was a perfect example of what Bunting and others are concerned about.

They say it's not just holiday weekends, but problems certainly get worse when an extra day off is involved.

Bunting theorizes that when Coquina Beach becomes too crowded, beachgoers move to the Broadway beach access, which he said lacks the space, amenities and parking to handle the overflow.

And then there is Greer Island, also known as Beer Can Island.

The colloquial name is apt, given the drinking and littering resident Maureen Merrigan said she sees there.

“It’s a frat party on the weekends,” Merrigan said.

Their complaints are backed up by official numbers. Town Manager Dave Bullock said police were busy during Memorial Day weekend at Greer Island, the Broadway Street beach access and the shoal near Jewfish Key. Jewfish Key has long been a popular spot for vessels to meet up, drop anchor and party.

That’s largely due to the roughly 126,000-square-yard sandbar that flanks the northwest end of the island, and its easy access from Longboat Pass and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Police Chief Pete Cumming said he is preparing for the July 4 weekend with Memorial Day in mind. Along with a plan to station additional officers in the area, he said he is working with town staff to post more signs on north end beaches indicating the town’s ordinance that prohibits alcohol consumption on beaches.

Bullock added that one of the Police Department’s two marine unit boats was in for repairs during Memorial Day weekend, but both will be ready for duty over the July 4 holiday weekend, which could stretch to four days, because the actual holiday falls on a Tuesday and many people will likely be off July 3 as well.

Merrigan and other north end residents say issues have intensified in recent years.

“It’s gone from mild to wild,” Bunting said.

Merrigan and Bunting mentioned that underage partiers make a destination of Greer Island, likely drawn by its remote location. The two residents say partiers often cross private property to arrive at their destination and act belligerent when told they are trespassing.

On Monday, Pat Zunz addressed the Town Commission about the illegal activity at Greer Island, noting drinking, drug use and littering.

“It’s becoming a tremendous problem for the people who live in that vicinity,” Zunz said, mentioning that residents clean up trash in the area daily.

In the long-term, Cumming hopes to determine with town staff a means to make Greer Island easier for police officers to patrol.

boat Key's main island. The chief said increasing erosion in the area has made it difficult for officers to navigate the department’s ATV onto Greer, especially during high tide.

Zunz urged the Town Commission to increase efforts in addressing erosion.

Cumming encourages north end residents and visitors to continue to alert police to any problems they see in the area.

“We appreciate all the help we can get from our eyes and ears out there,” Cumming said. “These people are a real asset to us.”

LONGBOAT'S NOT ALONE Longboat Key's neighbors to the south on Siesta Key were shocked the Tuesday morning after Memorial Day to find widespread trash along their favorite stretch of shoreline.

Sarasota County said about 48 tons of refuse was left behind on the sand, which touched off a social media storm, largely blaming out-of-area visitors and Dr. Beach's recent No. 1 rating as contributing factors.

Volunteers and county staff turned out that morning and had most of the mess cleaned up by lunchtime.

For the Independence Day holiday, county staffers say trash bags will be handed out to beachgoers and an emphasis will be placed on the importance of leaving the beach as beachgoers found it.

Whittall meets payment deadline Developer delivers on June 1 milestone to pay $22 million for Colony’s recreation facilities.

Chuck Whittall is one step closer to developing the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort property.

The president of Unicorp National Developments, who intends to submit a new proposal for the site June 26, met a deadline last week: The developer had until June 1 to pay $22 million to Colony Lender LLC or risk losing control of the former resort’s recreational facilities.

On June 2, Whittall told the Longboat Observer he had met his obligation.

“It’s done,” Whittall said. “It’s finished.”

In July 2016, Whittall announced his company’s $22 million acquisition of Colony Lender LLC’s 2.3-acre recreational property at the former Colony Beach and Tennis Resort.

Colony Lender LLC principal David Siegal confirmed the payment. “Chuck Whittall paid his obligation,” he said. “So that’s over.”

U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday affirmed a bankruptcy judge’s ruling that Colony Lender LLC had not acquired a recreational lease associated with

the property. Colony Lender sued unit owners in 2014 seeking more than $5 million in damages and back rent on the lease. Earlier this year, Siegal said he will continue to appeal the case unless unit owners come to a final agreement with Whittall for redevelopment.

At an April meeting with members of the Colony Association’s development committee, Whittall said he would keep intact his initial offer to unit owners ($130,000 to $200,000 per unit) and agreed to dismiss the appeal of the recent recreational lease ruling in exchange for the Colony Association waiving its sanctions recovery, “resulting in final closure of those disputes with no further legal costs.”

Whittall said he is looking forward to submitting a new proposal for the property. The plan will include a maximum building height of 65 feet, Whittall said, and meet all of Longboat Key’s setback and other requirements.

“It’s still going to be a five-star resort,” Whittall said.

Town talks fire station upgrades Town looks deeper at a renovation plan and a replacement plan.

As the Town Commission sought to narrow its options for Longboat Key’s south fire station, Commissioner Jack Daly asked Fire Chief Paul Dezzi what he’d rather see.

“To be honest with you, Commissioner, I would say knock it down and rebuild a two-story fire station,” Dezzi replied.

On Monday, Dezzi and architect Todd Sweet presented the Town Commission with five options to either renovate or rebuild the station, located at 2162 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Construction costs for three renovation options were estimated between $1.8 million to about $3.1 million, while construction costs for the two rebuilding options were estimated higher than $3.6 million. Dezzi’s recommendation was the most costly, estimated at nearly $4 million. Costs do not include permitting and inspection fees.

The plans aim to make the station, which was built in 1986, comply with the Florida Building Code, providing for flood and wind protection up to a Category 4 hurricane’s 156 mph, as well as changes to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The plans would also address

functional concerns by increasing space, adding a backup generator and providing gender-specific bunk rooms and bathroom facilities.

Commissioners decided to press ahead with two options for the 7,300-square-foot station: one to renovate, one to rebuild.

For a cost of $2.7 million, the renovation option adds about 1,400 square feet, including a larger kitchen, dining area, fitness room and seven separate bunk rooms.

The rebuild option costs $3.6 million and includes demolition of the existing building, replacing it with a 10,400-square-foot, single-story station. This option provides a third bay for emergency vehicles, as well as an additional vehicle entry point.

project, which is expected to cost the town between $40 million and $50 million. While he emphasized that he supports the project, the vice mayor noted the cost difference between a renovation and a rebuild of the south fire station is minimal in comparison.

“We’re getting into a debate here now about a 30-year investment for one of the most important things we have to service our town,” Zunz said. “I’m very much inclined toward (a new

station).”

Commissioner Jim Brown also spoke in favor of rebuilding.

“We’re looking at the future of this town, and although I’m very conscious of the cost, I’m wondering if we aren’t being superficially cautious when, over time, we’d be better off with a new facility,” Brown said. “My gut feeling is we should be looking at a new facility.”

well, which are estimated to cost less than $1 million.

Town Manager Dave Bullock said funding for the fire station upgrades will either come from sources such as the town’s general fund, referendum-approved debt or some combination of the two.

When things like financing costs and specific design elements can be looked at in depth, findings for both options will be revisited later this year, Bullock said.

LONGBOAT KEY COUNTY? Manatee and Sarasota counties often take Longboat Key’s $28 million in annual property tax revenue for granted.

Secession sounds great. But it will never happen.

It’s an interesting idea. But it’s only half of an even better idea.

It’s the Dave Bullock idea (at least this time around, it’s his idea). Longboat Key’s town manager persuaded the Town Commission members to let the town staff study the implications of Longboat Key being a municipality in one county — Manatee or Sarasota — instead of the town’s current status of being split geographically between the two counties.

This is a historical oddity that occurred in 1921, when the Legislature divided Manatee County into two counties. And that was 34 years before Longboat Key residents voted to incorporate — with roughly half of the 11-mile-long island split between the two counties.

That split, unfortunately, has always served as a divide, much like the North versus the South. Even though Longboat Key is one town, that county line has always made the town and its residents feel split.

Bullock’s idea could rid that legacy.

But it’s too bad he stopped at the idea of the town belonging to one county.

He also should have proferred the implications of the town becoming Florida’s 68th county — beholden neither to Sarasota nor Manatee counties.

Now that is an idea that would have huge economic benefits for Longboat Key taxpayers.

To the first idea — a town no longer straddling two counties — the town government would be a clear winner.

Either way, belonging to one county would do much to simplify and make more efficient the town’s administrative operations.

Life certainly would be simpler inside Town Hall.

For taxpayers, the effects would be far more economic. It would depend on which county the town aligns — because the property tax rates for each county and each school district are markedly different (see tables below).

The choice would be simple for Longboat Key taxpayers. They likely would choose aligning with Sarasota County. The difference in current millage rates would be 1.6109 mills.

That’s real money.

For a homeowner in the Manatee County portion of Longboat Key whose property is valued at $1 million, that change would amount to an annual savings of $1,610.

Or look at it this way: Currently, that $1 million Manatee-Longboat home pays Manatee County and the Manatee School District $13,858 a year in property taxes. If that home were in Sarasota County, the annual county and school property taxes would total $12,247.

Over 10 years: $138,580 versus $122,470.

No brainer.

But take this idea a half-step further: If Longboat Key became its own county.

Think of the economic windfall for Longboat Key property owners. If you wiped out just the county-imposed property taxes, Longboat Key property owners would eliminate all but 0.5061 and 0.9011 mills of the Manatee and Sarasota counties’ millage rates, respectively.

Longboat taxpayers still would pay the town’s current tax rate (see box), along with the property taxes for the Southwest Florida Water Management District, West Coast Inland Navigation District and mosquito control.

You also would have to factor in that the town would have obligations for other services — perhaps public schools, a jail, emergency management. But most of those services likely could be contracted out and purchased from Manatee or Sarasota.

Nonetheless, just imagine if your tax rates were half or three-quarters less than what you’re paying now. Talk about a no brainer.

Ah, but dream on. Neither of these scenarios — being a town in one county or Florida’s 68th county — is plausible. To execute either case, Longboat Key would have to obtain the permission and support of the Manatee and Sarasota county commissions; Manatee and Sarasota legislative delegations; Florida House and Senate and governor.

Not in a million years.

And for obvious reasons. With Longboat Key property assessed at more than $5 billion, Sarasota County will never relinquish the $18 million Longboaters pay to the county annually; nor will Manatee relinquish the $10.2 million it receives.

But if seceding from one county or becoming a new county is not an option, there are steps the Town Commission still can take to avoid both counties and the school districts taking Longboat Key for granted.

The town doesn’t need to be haughty or nasty about it. But the Town Commission certainly could be more assertive. Sit in the offices of the two counties’ commissioners and remind them — constantly — of how much Longboaters contribute. Then show them what Longboat Key taxpayers have received in return.

Publish on the town website and in the town’s annual budget specific dollars contributed to the counties and school districts and what tangible returns the town has received.

Talk about this every year at public budget meetings. And invite county commissions to Town Commission meetings to show Longboaters what the counties are doing for the Key. Manatee County commissioners ignited this whole discussion last December when the mayors of the barrier islands asked the commission for help with infrastructure for rising tourism traffic. The mayors reminded the county commissioners that while the islands represent 3% of Manatee’s

We searched the alleged nationally recognized newspapers for news or features commemorating the 73rd anniversary of D-Day. There was hardly a word of the heroism or the extraordinary accomplishment.

The Washington Post printed a feature on Andrew Jackson Higgins, the man whose company built the Higgins landing craft that transported our soldiers to the beachheads on that fateful day. But the story focused on Higgins’ entrepreneurial eccentricities — his drinking and profanity.

The Post did give him this due in one paragraph deep in the story: “To Bill Kelley, medical corpsman on Omaha put Higgins’ accomplishBeach ment in perspective,” historian Douglas Brinkley wrote in a 2000 article for American Heritage, consider this: “By September 1943, 12,964 of the American Navy’s 14,072 vessels had been designed by Higgins Industries. Put another way, 92% of the U.S. Navy was a Higgins navy.”

But nary a word in the Post about the men who stormed the French coastline.

The nation’s namesake paper, USA Today, used the D-Day anniversary to feature a column by a Central Virginia Community College professor, who lectured readers on how the U.S., under Trump, is retreating from the world stage.

Standard academic tripe.

We’re not much better. But at least, albeit two days after the anniversary, we’ll offer our salute to the extraordinary bravery of those remaining few who lived through another of those days in the defense of freedom that should never be forgotten.

On the anniversary of D-Day, we always think of one man: longtime Longboater 92-year-old Bill Kelley.

On that day, 19-year-old Kelley was a medical corpsman on Omaha Beach. He has always been humble about his experience.

That’s the way they were: humble heroes.

Key redistricting idea meets some resistance Weighing in on the idea of redrawing the Longboat Key Town Commission’s electiondistrict map, Commissioner Jack Daly says, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Phill Younger, a member of the town’s Charter Review Committee who once worked in the airline industry, last month proposed a new idea. His reply: “If we had that attitude, you would all be riding trains. You better fix it before it breaks.”

Of the Town Commission’s seven seats, five are elected through geographic districts, meaning the candidates must live within the district boundaries.

The other two can live anywhere in town. Voters cast ballots across district lines.

Village resident Gene Jaleski suggested to the committee the opposite of Younger’s idea: Tighten commission election lines by only allowing those who live in a district to vote for that district’s candidate.

“People are discouraged about running because they have to appeal to the entire island,” Jaleski said. “They don’t feel they can win against a candidate who is supported by interests on the south end.”

A date for Town Commission review has not been set.

In a May 18 email, Daly urged “extreme caution” in redrawing the lines of election districts, noting “each and every commissioner represents the voters on the entire island” and the elimination of one of five district representatives in favor of a third at-large commissioner could create the “unintended consequence” of an overrepresented commission.

Longboat Key Commissioner Jim Brown recalls the search for an interim town manager six years ago, and the uncertainty that came with it.

“I was scared as hell,” Brown said. “I didn’t know what to do.”

Brown said he and former Town Attorney Dave Persson sought out local prospective candidates, and many pointed them in Dave Bullock’s direction.

“I think it was the most fortunate thing in the world,” Brown said.

Now, the Key is beginning the search for its next town manager. In early May, Bullock, 66, announced his plans to retire in January.

Commissioners discussed the hiring process on Monday. Brown stressed the benefits of seeking local candidates who, like Bullock, understand the intricacies and nuances of overseeing dayto-day business on Longboat.

“As we all know, we’re not like a lot of places,” Brown said. “We’re a unique community, and we’re peculiar in a lot of our desires and our needs.”

Before coming to the Key in 2011, Bullock was a deputy county administrator for Sarasota County for 14 years.

While agreeing with Brown’s sentiment, George Spoll suggested a candidate who understands the character of the Key could be found in a nationwide search.

“Is there somebody out there who would like to come home?”

Spoll wondered. “I would hate to

lose that option.”

Mayor Terry Gans added that he is not ready to rule out the possibility of an internal candidate.

“I think we can target, but I wouldn’t want to slam the door on anybody at this point,” Gans said.

In the end, commissioners instructed Bullock to contact potential candidates he believes are qualified. Bullock will then arrange for interested candidates to meet with commissioners individually. Commissioners will also suggest to Bullock any candidates they have in mind.

If this approach does not yield positive results in the next month or so, Bullock said he will suggest the Town Commission consider a different route.

“We shouldn’t spend too much time trying to find the perfect person,” Bullock said. “(Then) suddenly we’re three months down the road and we don’t have anything.”

The new manager will have to tackle two major undertakings: n A plan to bury utilities, such as power lines and wireless communication gear. The project is intended to enhance the community’s safety, appearance and protection from stormrelated outages and recovery from damage. n Bullock in recent weeks has begun looking into the feasibility of possibly annexing entirely into either Manatee or Sarasota counties. About a third of the town’s population lives in Manatee County.

In May, Bullock announced he has hired a new public works director, replacing Juan Florensa, who will retire in early 2018. Isaac Brownman, who has worked for Sarasota County for 17 years, begins with the town in August.

NANCY LUCILLE DYE FREELAND

Nancy Freeland, 80, of Longboat Key, died May 14.

She was born in Lafayette, Ind., on Jan. 8, 1937. She graduated from Purdue University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology.

She was a pin-wearing sister of Kappa Alpha Theta and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Nancy loved to be creative and was drawn to many art forms. As a stained-glass artist, avid reader and world-class hostess, Nancy drew the most joy in life from her loving family and vast array of friendships nationwide, including many close friendships in the Gulf Shore community. The family would like to offer a special thanks to her confidant and advocate in care, Clara Washington.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Charles and Inez Dye; brother John Dye; niece Mary Beth McCaffry; and nephew John Cockerman.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry Michael Freeland; brother Charles Dye; sister Alice; sons James, John and Andrew; and their spouses and children.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, 2504 34th Ave. W., Bradenton.

SHARON ELSPETH OPER

Sharon Oper, 76, of Longboat Key, died June 2.

She was born on Jan. 16, 1941, in New Jersey to the late Joseph Oper and Sara Hafkin Oper.

She died surrounded by loyal friends, with whom she shared her passion for international cultures and cuisines, tennis and support for the Democratic Party.

She was a member of Temple Beth Israel and a former member of the synagogue in every

country she lived in throughout her career.

Sharon’s entry into public service began in the early 1970s when she was hired as an aide to U.S. Rep. Bella Abzug. She joined the U.S. Foreign Service a few years later and enjoyed foreign postings in Chile, Spain, Zaire, Pakistan, Thailand and Kenya.

She lived in Africa for seven years and became an aficionado of African art and African grey parrots, one of whom, Two two, has survived her and was adopted by friends. Sharon loved animals, including hundreds of birds she photographed on the beach near her home.

She was active in many local organizations, including the tennis center, several book clubs and a mahjong group.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

MARIE “JACKIE” RESNICK

Marie “Jackie” Resnick of Longboat Key, and formerly Lincoln, Mass., died June 5.

She was born in Old Town, Maine, in 1926. She graduated from Old Town High School and the Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for several years before marrying Charles Resnick in 1951.

She volunteered at a number of charities in the Boston area and at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; son Andrew; and two grandchildren Molly and Nathan Resnick.

HENRY D. “HANKS” CASSENS

He was born on June 8, 1938, to the late Henry John and Frances Cassens.

He lettered in football, boxing and track and field at Roosevelt Jr. High and was a 1956 graduate of Manual Training High School.

Hank went on to serve in theArmy Reserve as a staff sergeant in the infantry between 1962 and 1967. On March 12, 1960, he married Joyce Abraham in Chicago.

He was Ford dealer in Dunlap and Wyoming, Ill. While at Ford, he was a board member of the Ford Dealer Advertising Fund, and he won many awards during his career. He worked for the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 2001.

Hank was a member of the Mohammed Temple Shriners, the Masons Alta Lodge #078, American Legion #979, Creve Coeur Club, Kiwanis Club of Dunlap and a board member of Weaver Ridge Golf View Board.

He loved cars and was an original member of the Slow Pokes Car Club, as well as one of the originators and sponsors of the JFL Program in Dunlap.

He loved his family and faith. He served on the St. Paul Lutheran Church council and taught Sunday school.

He loved racing, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, going to his Friday morning breakfast club and spending winters on Longboat Key. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter Tracey Head; son-in-law Brendan Head; two grandsons, Ayden and Tristan Head; and sister Cheryl Cook.

She was born in Ohio to Esther and Richard Murdock. The family moved to Florida in the 1970s and lived in the Tampa area.

Upon graduating high school, she attended Hillsborough Community College.

She worked in the insurance field for almost 25 years and obtained the title of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.

After leaving the insurance profession, she worked as a data research analyst at Nielsen Media for several years in both Tampa and Sarasota.

She was an active member of Christ Church of Longboat Key. She is survived by her husband, Kevin; mother, Esther Cain Murdock; her mother’s life partner, Robert Scott; father, Richard Murdock; and brother David.

She was preceded in death by her brother Michael.

A memorial Mass will be held at Christ Church at a later date.

She was an active member of the local Jewish community, co-founding a nursery school and kindergarten at Temple Beth Shalom in the 1960s. She also participated in the Hadassah and Women’s American ORT charities. Later, she and her late husband, Ezra, became members of Temple Emmanuel and Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key. Audrey was a lifelong theater enthusiast and was a patron of the Asolo Repertory Theatre and served as a volunteer with the Florida Studio Theatre. She was a graduate of Bard College,

Following a two-year stint in the Navy, he opened a private practice in general and vascular surgery in Tampa in 1972. Ten years later, he was appointed chief of staff at Tampa’s University Community Hospital and chief of surgery in 1985.

Bill was an exceptional athlete, playing basketball for both Duke University and Louisville.

He also loved horses. Later in life, he picked up tennis and loved cooking. He once cooked a meal of crabs and fettuccine for more than 60 of his Longboat Key friends.

He taught at the University of South Florida and the VA Medical Center. He was an emeritus board member for the Foundation at University Community Hospital, initiating fundraising efforts to establish the Pepin Heart Institute, Women’s Center and Starlight Ball.
