Raise a glass for veterans in need After Hurricane Debby flooded Operation Warrior Resolution’s Sarasota building in August 2024, CEO Kendra Simpkins Walsh (pictured above on the left with Cathy Kwon and Bill Kwon) relocated the nonprofit to Manatee County. The nonprofit has been fundraising since to build a healing center on Waterline Road, known as Warrior Spirit Ranch. The SRQ Forward Foundation Inc. visited May 21 with a check for $51,068.83 to help further the nonprofit’s mission to provide innovative, holistic mental health treatments. The funds were raised through SRQ Forward’s Sarasota Wine Festival in March. President Cathy Kwon said it brings the community together with a shared purpose.

A helping hand
John Joly, director of veteran programs for Knights of Columbus San Damiano Assembly #3192 (pictured with Aaron Cornelius and Jerry Graceffo), said it’s an honor to help veterans who suffer from battlefield injuries. On April 20, the Knights hosted the Armed Forces Day Charity Golf Tournament and raised $10,000 to donate to Homes for Our Troops. Joly said choosing Homes for Our Troops was an easy decision as the goal is to support veterans, and HFOT is a “highly effective and trusted nonprofit” that provides “tailored housing, ongoing support and prudent use of donor funds.” Aaron Cornelius, a Homes for Our Troops home recipient, and Knight Jerry Graceffo joined Joly for the check presentation May 26.
