Rev for rowing

Bradenton’s Bruce Bartoo (above) modified the back of his 2026 Ford Mustang GT, so the GT spells “GraTitude.” Bartoo is the president and chief gratitude officer at Gratitude Health Group LLC. On June 13, he was grateful to get a spot in the Dillard’s parking lot at the Mall at UTC. Sarasota Cars and Coffee was celebrating its 15th anniversary. Bartoo arrived about 10 minutes before the show started at 8 a.m. and received one of the last spots. Drivers pay a $10 entry fee to show their cars, and the fees are donated to a different charity partner each month. USRowing was June’s partner since the 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships was taking place over the weekend at Nathan Benderson Park.

Grande dames of donations Palm Aire is one of the oldest communities in East County, for the development broke ground in 1955. Just three years later, a group of residents created the Palm Aire Women’s Club. Over 68 years, the mission has never changed — to give back to the community. Each year, the club disperses scholarship and grant funds. In April, $13,500 worth of scholarships were awarded to seven local students. On June 5, the club awarded five $500 checks to local charities. Mothers Helping Mothers Executive Director Cheri DeVries (above with Carolann Garafola) accepted the nonprofit’s check from Garafola, the club’s chairman of charities. The grant will be used to purchase infant care and safety items, such as formula and convertible car seats.
