Flags for the fallen

Meghan Lucker and Anne Parker (above) were among the 40 volunteers to place over 500 flags May 19 at Lakewood Ranch Country Club. It was in honor of Memorial Day for those who have served and sacrificed in the military for the United States. The effort was led by Pete Herrera, a member of the general manager’s advisory board for LWRGCC, who was looking for ways to get club members engaged in activities. He said he is appreciative of everyone who participated. “I thought of my dad, a World War II combat vet (the late Pete Herrera, U.S. Army 1943-1945) who always said, ‘Be grateful you get to live under this flag, because many aren’t that fortunate.’”

There are six trucks, manufactured by Peterbilt, touring from January to December as coordinated by the National Parks Foundation.
