HATS OFF TO SENIORS
Let us pray — all together now About 40 people gathered at Waterside Place’s Gateway Park on May 7 to pray. The National Day of Prayer is held annually on the first Thursday of May. President Harry S. Truman signed the observance into law in 1952. David Hunihan, CEO of Lee Wetherington Homes, led the hour-long event. Dawson Cowals (above), a member of Grace Community Church, performed worship songs, and several members of the community recited prayers. “We see that when the church comes together, societies change, regions change, families change, relationships change and governments change,” said Pastor Chad Spencer of Legacy Church in Lakewood Ranch.

Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club members, Patti Wrobel (left above) and Andrea Burr (right above), presented Abigail Frint and Hannah Stint, seniors at Lakewood Ranch High School, with $1,000 scholarships May 6. The scholarships are in honor of late past president Monika A. Templeman, who strongly believed in the future of young women and their ability to impact the world. Burr, the current president of the club, said Frint stood out for devoting her talents to sports medicine, which includes mental health awareness. As for Stint, she has done missionary work in Ireland and Mexico.
