Ginny and Roger McClean: Have You Heard?, Inc.
G
inny McClean started Have You Heard?, Inc. along with her husband Roger in1995. The company was started because of their experience with invitations for their wedding. Their mission statement was and continues to be to provide a quality product with excellent customer service for people who are celebrating special occasions. Have You Heard? was started in Massapequa and in 1997 moved to Merrick Road in Bellmore where, in September 2009, expanded three doors east to a larger store. Besides invitations you will find favors and gifts for all your special occasions. Have You Heard?, along with Ginny’s reputation, is known worldwide as customers in need of invitations and other related goods have traveled from as far as New Jersey, Rockland County, the Hamptons and Dublin, Ireland!
Have You Heard?, Inc. has won numerous awards including The Knot “Best of Weddings” and Wedding Wire “Couples Choice Awards” since 2011 along with many individual invitation companies recognizing their expertise. From the beginning, Ginny & Roger participated in very active roles with the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores. Roger had been a major volunteer with the Street Fair and holiday events; even dressing up in costumes (for Halloween parade and street fair floats)! For many years he worked along side the street festival coordinator taking on the role of official street fair spot coordinator and chaired the Veteran’s section. Roger received the Chamber Member of the Year award in 2012. In addition to Ginny’s full time commitment of running her retail store, Ginny took on numerous volunteer roles, first as a Board Member, then Co-President from 2002 through 2006, Past President for the following two years and chairperson of many of the Chamber’s committees maintaining a constant presence in the community. Ginny was voted Bellmore’s 2005 NCCC Business Person of the Year, Bellmore Board Member of the Year in 2010, from 2006 to 2012 was Treasurer, 2012 to 2016 was 2nd Vice President and from 2012-2018. She also served as 1st VP of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce. Through the years both Ginny and Roger contributed to the Chamber and the community in more ways than can be counted. Ginny and Roger have taken their new business start up in1995 full circle to their recent retirement closing Have You Heard, Inc. this past November.

Family Fence: Carl and Gladiz DiGangi
It all began with Carl DiGangi and his cousin working together in the field of power washing in an attempt to make extra money in hopes of starting their own business. During this time, they both had full time jobs and young families. Working 90 hours over a seven days a week, the two cousins were able to purchase an impressive assortment of tools and machinery. After multiple requests to repair and install fences these entrepreneurs decided that opportunity was knocking and in 1999 they started Family Fence in Bellmore. Their instincts were correct and both were able to leave their full time jobs to grow Family Fence into the successful business it is today. In 2006 Family Fence purchased the commercial property where they are still located at 2207 Newbridge Rd in Bellmore. Carl’s wife Gladiz joined the business after retiring from a 25 year career as a Civil Servant working at multiple Nassau County Courts as a NYS certified Spanish court interpreter and judicial administrative assistant. Family Fence is known for providing personal atten-
From an early age community service was important to Rebecca. Whether it was through the Girl Scouts, her school or church, she was always willing to volunteer to help others. In 2012, while dating her now husband Dan who is on the board of the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores, Rebecca began attending Chamber events. Before long her passion for volunteering was directed towards the Bellmore community and the chamber. She became a member of the annual Street Festival Dream Team committee, assists at the Friday Night Car Show and can be found in costume helping out at the annual Halloween and Easter Parades. Rebecca is a dedicated volunteer always willing to bring her smile and positive attitude to assist in making community events enjoyable for all. Rebecca lives in Merrick with her husband Dan, his family and their dogs Boots and Precious. She works as a Teachers
Emilo lived most of his life in Bellmore and was instrumental in so much the Bellmore chamber accomplished. During his decades of service on the chamber board of directors Emilio was always front and center doing any and all tasks needed. In fact, all events sponsored by the chamber had his stamp on it including the Street Festival, Holiday Extravaganza, Friday Night Car Shows, Easter and Halloween Parades. His pride and joy was organizing the Chamber effort to collect “Toys for Tots.” Youth safety and happiness were a top priority for Emilio. Many in the community will remember him as the big guy driving the chamber golf cart through the street fair, holiday parades and Friday night car shows making sure events were safe for all to enjoy.

McDONOUGH LEADS CHARGE TO INVEST IN LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE
F
ollowing the Assembly Republican Conference’s statewide Task Force on Critical Infrastructure and Transportation, Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick), Ranking Member of the Assembly Transportation Committee, is calling for a number of transportation-related initiatives as he moves into budget negotiations next month. “It’s no secret that Long Island is heavily commuted and that, coupled with our extreme winter weather, a serious toll is taken on our roadways and bridges,” McDonough said. “The issue lies in the fact that the MTA has become a bottomless pit with mismanagement and fraud consuming more and more tax dollars each year, leaving Long Island fighting for scraps. It’s time that we institute funding parity and go to work on our neglected roads, bridges and highways. Residents deserve to feel safe when commuting to work, riding the school bus and taking that family ride to the beach.”
Assemblyman Dave McDonough [at podium] speaks at infrastructure investment press conference McDonough’s Transportation Plan: • $100 million increase in Consolidated Local Street and Highway (CHIPs) funding • Institute funding parity between Long Island and New York City • Continue state investment in Extreme Winter Recovery Funds, PAVE-NY and BRIDGE-NY programs Assemblyman McDonough represents the 14th District, which includes Merrick, Bellmore, North Bellmore, Seaford, Wantagh and parts of Levittown and Roosevelt. The Faculty Follies Fundraiser for District-Run Food Panty
T
he Bellmore-Merrick central high school district faculty variety show, now in its second year, is a major fundraiser event raising money for the Community Cupboard, the district-run food pantry. Mepham High School hosted the event in the auditorium on January 31, one of the coldest nights of the year. A full house came to see the show featuring live performances by a wide variety of staff members representing each of the six
schools as well as central administration. Students from the district’s Ambassador Program were the emcees for the show. “We are so excited that the Follies has become a true highlight event of the school year! It is a wonderful example of teachers, administrators and students coming together in the spirit of One Voice, One Message,” said Director of the Fine & Performing Arts Cheryl Fontana. “The stu-
dent ambassadors do tremendous work for our community; this night of entertainment is the staff’s way of helping to support their initiatives.” The Community Cupboard is located at the Brookside Building, 1260 Meadowbrook Rd., Merrick. Top Tips for Trying New Wines
A
re you ready to add something new to your standard wine repertoire? To help expand your palate, twotime James Beard Award winning sommelier, Belinda Chang, is offering some expert insight into one of her go-to varietals. “Fans of Pinot Noir should consider its hip French relative, Beaujolais, made from the Gamay grape which is still relatively unknown among American wine drinkers,” says Chang. “And like Pinot Noir, Gamay is a thin-skinned grape that generally produces bright wines with low tannins. These wines tend to exhibit red fruit and berry notes, spices from good French oak barrels and earthy characteristics.” While they are quite similar, Gamay grapes are grown in the Beaujolais region in the southern-most part of Burgundy. Beaujolais differs from northern Burgundy in growing temperatures, soils and other factors. “If you’re looking for a deli-
W
cious quintessential and easyto-drink French wine, the Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages ($13.99) is a good one to take home,” says Chang. Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable wine houses in Burgundy and the number one French wine in the U.S. Known for a vinification process that balances tradition and technology, their wines are affordable and versatile. They can be enjoyed by the glass or paired with a variety of meals. (If you prefer white wines, Jadot also produces an unoaked Chardonnay, Macon-Villages (SRP: $14.99) and a dry, crisp Rosé (SRP: $13.99) — two good choices for warm weather.) “Most sommeliers will confess that the Beaujolais on their wine lists are go-to recommendations to pair with anything on the menu and please every palate at the table. And, I confess that when it comes to a daily drinking red, instead of a ponderous Cabernet Sauvignon or a monster Malbec, I always want a slightly chilled,
juicy Gamay,” says Chang, who recommends serving the Château de Jacques Moulin-à-Vent (SRP: $28.99) when you really want or need to impress your guests. So, exactly how do these wines hold up to food? “What grows together, goes together is a mantra that always works,” says Chang. “Look to the locals for inspiration. When it comes to Gamay and Beaujolais, you’ll find yourself in the company of some of the best chefs and eaters in the world. This is Burgundian cuisine after all, which means coq au vin, boeuf bourguignon and even époisses — the world’s greatest stinky cheese.” According to Chang, Beaujolais is one of the most food-friendly wines on Earth, in part due to the natural acidity of Gamay grapes. Bottom line: these wines make a perfect match for brunch items, grilled meats, buttery pastries topped with anything and much more. - StatePoint
How to Rekindle the Romance in Your Marriage
hether you’re a honeymooner or you’re celebrating your 50th anniversary, there’s a chance that the romantic spark that brought you and your partner together in the first place needs to be rekindled. Experts say that a continually fulfilling relationship requires establishing and maintaining a complete connection. “Marriage is more than a wedding and a license, it’s a psychological, emotional and spiritual sense of connection,” says Dr. Frederick D. Mondin, a marriage counselor, human sexuality professor and author of the new book, “Erotic Love & Marriage: Improve Your
Sex Life and Emotional Connection,” which offers insights on the issues that almost every relationship struggles with, as well as solutions that highlight connection, communication and exploration. Dr. Mondin is sharing tips and insights to all couples seeking to connect or re-connect with one another. • Keep dating: No matter how busy you become, you should never stop having the kind of fun you had when you were courting. Whether it’s hiking beautiful trails, going to concerts, or giving and attending parties, these activities should be carried into any long-
term relationship if you intend to have a meaningful romantic life together and a healthy emotional connection. • Take each other seriously: Don’t allow gender stereotypes to lead you to discount each other’s feelings or opinions as irrational. You’ll communicate more effectively, and be happier as a result, if you listen to your partner and take him or her seriously. In other words, there should be no “boss” in the marriage. Work at maintaining a peer relationship. • Ritualize contact time: Couples need ritualized contact time in which they get together, such as going to lunch once a week, having coffee together in the morning or watching a television
program they both like. This is one of the most important components of having a close, emotionally intimate relationship. • Speak the language of love: Emotional intimacy has its own language, the language of endearment. Focus on all the right features of your partner — the personal qualities you saw when you first met and still appreciate, and start to verbalize that information. If your partner reciprocates, it will create a feeling of closeness. These words don’t have to be rational or logical, but they should always be a validation of the relationship and your partner. • Lose your inhibitions: Be open with each other about everything — including sex. Unfor-
tunately, lingering guilt, fear and shame on this topic prevent many couples from being candid with one another. Learn to lose those inhibitions so that you can share your needs, desires, feelings and concerns. • Give each other space: You don’t need to do everything together to have a happy relationship. In fact, the happiest couples tend to give each other the support and space needed to maintain their independent interests. You don’t have to resign yourself to receding happiness as time passes. A challenge of your current beliefs can help you rekindle the spark and enjoy a closer, more meaningful relationship. - StatePoint

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas to Wow That Special Someone
F
lowers and chocolates are always fun to give and receive on Valentine’s Day, but if you are looking to shake things up with your gift-giving, there are plenty of ways to tell someone you love them. Here are unique gift ideas to really wow that special someone. • Go Somewhere: Whether it’s a pair of concert tickets, a long weekend to an exciting destination or dinner on the town, the gift of an experience, particularly one that allows you to spend time together doing something new and different, can be both meaningful and memorable. • Give the Gift of Music: Are you shopping for a musician or someone who would like to learn to play an instrument? Wherever that someone is on his or her musical journey, and no matter your budget, you
shouldn’t have to compromise on quality to make Valentine’s Day special. New keyboard models, for example, are making it possible to get great sound quality at a modest price. One example is the CT-X700, which comes equipped with tools for learning to play songs, and faithfully reproduces the sound of acoustic instruments such as guitars, drums, basses, brass, wind instruments, string ensembles and more. Its extensive library of 600 tones and 195 rhythms, allows musicians to create their own masterpieces and is nice for budding and seasoned musicians alike. • Cook Together: Beat the crowds and surge pricing — make a romantic playlist, plan a delicious menu and select a great bottle of wine or other beverage of choice for a fine dining Valentine’s Day experi-
ence in your own home. • Upgrade Home Technology: Instantaneously upgrade his or her home theater or gaming
system with a projector. Look for a model that offers instant on and off functionality so there’s no down time before
getting started. The LampFree XJ-F210WN from Casio, a mercury-free model, has a high power 16-watt speaker and a long operating life, making it a good choice for serious movie enthusiasts, gear heads and gamers who prefer a low maintenance option. • Personalize It: Use a photo of a beloved pet, the lyrics of a favorite song or a picture of the two of you to personalize a special gift. From jigsaw puzzles to throw blankets to tumblers and cutting boards, you can personalize just about anything these days with photos, monograms, sayings and more. This Valentine’s Day, get creative with your gift-giving. Select items that support your recipient’s hobbies and offer you an opportunity to spend time together. - StatePoint

Robots Are The Rage At Newbridge Road
tudents have been delving into robotics at Newbridge Road Elementary School through cooperative activities that advance their computer science skills. Second-graders are using Dash and Dot robots and work in teams to program direction, distance and speed. The students also explore the robot’s light and sound features. North Bellmore School District technology integration specialist Michael Bevilacqua said Dash and Dot robots are a perfect tool for elementary school-aged children because of their interactive nature. Newbridge Road second-graders have already taken part in series of lessons and activities that introduced them to coding using the Blockly app on iPads. They are faced with various challenges and work together to get their robots to complete desired actions. Future activities will involve having the robots interact with each other and launching a ball a certain distance. Sixth-graders have been working with Spheros, which are Bluetooth, app-enabled robotic spheres. Children use the Sphero Edu app in order to add lines of code to program their Sphero and con-

Working in teams, they can create a path for their Sphero, have it predict the future acting as a fortune teller, or use it as a “hot potato.” As an introductory activity, they had to program their Spheros to roll in a perfect square. Students will then take part in a series of lessons and activities that will culminate with a Battle Bot Championship. “These activities incorporate important 21st-century computer science skills, team building strategies and higher-level thinking,” Mr. Bevilacqua said. “Robots inspire curiosity, creativity and invention.”

Seniors H.A.V.E Heart
By Jane Rubenstein, Ms. NY Sr. America Queen of 2014
S
eniors definitely have heart when it comes to giving back in their community, and doing meaningful charity work all over Long Island year round. Ms. New York Senior America is a non- profit, charitable organization, founded in 1972, comprised entirely of women over the age of 60. We hold an annual pageant to acquire members. We all stand for a positive image on aging, and offer purpose, friendship, and volunteer opportunities to seniors. We spend the year offering inspiration to seniors to live life to the fullest at every age, and be part of a giving-back, and offering meaningful help to seniors and Veterans. A very special program that we do is H.A.V.E. Heart (Help a Veteran Everyday), a project that celebrates and honors Vet-
erans in communities on L.I. We feel very strongly in Thanking Veterans and active military for their Service and Sacrifice. We help them with various wishes that they may not be able to afford or enjoy. This year, we honored Lisa DeStefano of Bellmore, NY, a Marine Corps Veteran that served from 19962001. She is a hard working single mother of a 10 year old daughter, Giavanna. We concentrated on special activities that she could share with her
daughter at holiday time, because with her full time work schedule and her daughters school and after school activities it is hard to do fun and special things. Including photos at Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, and shopping for new outfits. Then they had a day of beauty together, including new hairdos, nails and makeup. A huge thank you to Banz Hair Salon in Bellmore , Richie Rubenstein, owner, and Kristen Robbins for hair dying and cut, and Inna Kady-
mov for nails. Thank you to Amelia Aimee Molle' from "Let's Get Pretty Beautiful" for full makeup done at Lisa's home. They also got to enjoy a wonderful meal at R.S. Jones in Merrick, with thanks to Margaret Mueller, and Carole Olkoski, owners. The entire community of Bellmore/ Merrick played a huge role in participating in this event and honoring our Veteran. Another special wish that Lisa expressed was, getting passports, for her and her daughter, that are costly, so we took care of that and the photos.
The women of Ms. New York Senior America went to Lisa's house for a special ceremony, presenting gifts, a commemorative banner and our special way of thanking her for her service with our love, appreciation, and respect. We did all we could to help make her holiday with her daughter special and memorable. We are an organization that does 'acts of kindness.” If you know of a Veteran that you would like to celebrate any time of the year, please contact us at newyorksenioramerica.org to see all of wonderful work we do.

WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU ???? HAVE AN AUTO ACCIDENT I Your NewsMag FEBRUARY 2014 | №5 1
Your2014 NewsMag 1№5 | FEBRUARY
By Mitchell J. Rich, Esq.
f have the unfortunate experience of being involved in an automobile accident, it is important that you take the proper steps to protect your legal rights regarding both personal injury and property damage to your car. To help prove the extent of the damage to your car and your body, it is necessary that a police report be made, even if there only a small property damage claim. You should also file by mail and keep a copy of a form called an MV-104 with the Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany that fully describes how the accident occurred. Additionally, as many cell phone photographs as possible should be taken and preserved until all claims are settled. Even if you feel that you not injured, keep in mind that
some injuries do not become apparent for a day or two. Therefore, you should be checked out at an Emergency Room or walk-in medical clinic as soon as possible. If you are injured, the sooner after the impact that you receive medical treatment, the easier it will be to prove the extent of your injury. Under New York law, it is your insurance company that pays No-fault benefits. No-fault covers medical bills related to the accident as well as a portion of lost earnings. A No-fault claim must be presented to your insurance company within 30 days of the accident. Many insurance companies, especially when they are representing the car that hit your car, will want you to give them a recorded statement regarding your acci-
PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE OF SPECIAL DISTRICT MEETING NORTH BELLMORE PUBLIC LIBRARY NORTH BELLMORE TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD NASSAU COUNTY, NEW YORK NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Special Library District Meeting and Voting upon the appropriation of necessary funds and tax levy to meet the estimated expenditures of the North Bellmore Public Library for the fiscal year 2019-2020, and the election of a Library Trustee for a full five-year term, to the position currently encumbered by Barbara Fillios whose term of office will expire June 30, 2019 will be held at the North Bellmore Fire House at 1500 Newbridge Road North Bellmore, NY 11710 on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and as much longer as may be necessary for all voters then present to cast their votes.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN THAT: 1. Pursuant to Education Law Section 2014, personal registration of voters is required and no person shall be entitled to vote at said meeting and election whose name does not appear on the register of said Library; and 2. Any person shall be entitled to have his name placed upon such register provided he is known or proven to such Board of Registration to be entitled to vote at the meeting or election for which such registration is prepared to vote at general elections; and 3. Qualified voters may register at the temporary location of the North Bellmore Public Library, adjacent to 1600 Bellmore Avenue, on Tuesday, March 26, from 1:00
dent. It is strongly advised that this be declined until you have retained legal representation. The insurance companies are very experienced in finding ways to get you to say things that are not quite the truth that will damage your case. When you first sustain an injury, it is difficult, if not impossible to try to project the extent of the medical bills that will be incurred. While No-fault will cover medical bills, the No-fault insurance company will generally insist that you see a doctor chosen by them for an examination within 90 days of your accident. This doctor is being paid by the insurance company to give a medical opinion that will terminate the No-fault benefits of as many claimants as possible. After a No-fault termination, your
PM to 9:00 PM. Voters having previously registered for any Annual or Special Library or School District Election or Meeting, or who shall have voted at any Annual or Special Meeting or Election held or conducted at any time within the past four (4) calendar years prior to the preparation of the register, or who are registered to vote at any general election pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law of the State of New York are considered registered to vote. Such register will be filed in the office of the Director of the North Bellmore Public Library five (5) days preceding such Special District Meeting and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District during such days between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. 4. In accordance with Education Law No. 2018-a, application for absentee ballots for the Library Special District Meeting may be applied for at the Library. Such application must be received by the Board of Registration at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or on the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. The Board of Registration shall make a list of all persons to whom absentee voters’
regular medical insurance will then take over responsibility for the medical bills, however, co-payments and deductibles may then apply. One of the more strange aspects of New York law is that only the medical provider and not the injured party or their attorney may bring an arbitration action against the N-fault carrier for a denial based upon their medical examination. Some, but not all, medical offices will bring such an arbitration, so it is an important question to ask when choosing a medical provider. While the No-fault benefits are available, the doctors, hospitals and other medical providers may not bill you for any co-payments. Once a provider agrees to accept Nofault, they must accept the No-fault payment as pay-
ballots have been issued, and have it available during regular office hours until the day of election. Such list shall be posted at the polling place during the election. No absentee vote ballot shall be canvassed unless it is received not later than 5:00 PM on the day of the election.
BUDGET PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Martin Avenue School Library, 2616 Martin Avenue, for the purpose of discussion of the said expenditures of funds and the budget thereof. Copies of the proposed 2019-2020 Library Budget will be available at the North Bellmore Library during regular library hours (9AM-9PM Monday-Thursday, 9AM-6PM Friday, 9AM-5PM Saturday and 1PM-5PM Sunday) commencing fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the Special District Meeting of April 3, 2019 and at the polling place on the day of the Special District Meeting. PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the candidates for the office of Library Trustee shall be nominated by petition.
ment in full. The most important thing to remember is to document as much as possible regarding your injury, but without the use of social media. Under current law, the insurance company for the car that hit you can get quite intrusive regarding the social media sites that you use, so the best advice is to avoid any mention of the accident or your injuries on social media. Of course, should you require the services of an attorney, you should carefully check the attorney’s history and experience in representing person injury claimants and his/her track record in those cases. Mitchell J. Rich is an attorney located at 3535 Jerusalem Avenue, Wantagh
Each petition shall be directed to the Secretary of the Library Board of Trustees and shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer and shall state the name and residence of the candidate and specific vacancy for which a candidate is nominated, including at least the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent, if any. In the event that any such nominee shall withdraw his candidacy prior to the election, such person shall not be considered a candidate unless a new petition nominating such person in the same manner and with the same limitations applicable to other candidates is filed with the Secretary of the Library Board of Trustees. No person shall be nominated by petition for more than one separate office. Each petition shall be filed with the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the North Bellmore Public Library between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, not later than the thirtieth (30th) day proceeding the day of the election, to wit: March 4, 2019 at 5 PM. How Healthy Feet Can Reduce Your Risk of Falling
mong older Americans, falls are the number one cause of injuries and death from injury, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Not only are seniors more at risk for falls, when they do so, it poses a greater risk for injuries, hospitalization and complications. For a ground-up approach to fall prevention, seniors should start by examining the health of their feet. “Painful foot conditions, such as osteoarthritis, corns, bunions, hammertoes and diabetes complications, can make it difficult for seniors to maintain balance and coordination when walking or standing,” says Michael Ambroziak, DPM, FACFAS, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ACFAS). “Compounding the
issue is that the very exercises intended to correct risk factors for falls, such as lower-body weakness, as well as gait and balance problems, are made difficult to perform when one is suffering from painful foot and ankle conditions.” While the factors causing falls are numerous, experts say that seniors, and everybody for that matter, can take steps to reduce their risk by minimizing or even eliminating foot pain. Doing so will improve balance, coordination and stability when walking or standing. Foot and ankle surgeons recommend the following ways to help keep feet and ankles healthy: • Don’t ignore pain: Foot pain is not just a normal consequence of growing older, so don’t resign yourself to aching and suffering. You likely have a treatable condition. For a prop-
er diagnosis and intervention, be sure to pay attention to your feet and see a foot and ankle surgeon if and when you experience pain. • Examine your feet: You are the gatekeeper of your own health, making regular athome foot examinations critical. At the sign of bumps, lumps or other changes in your feet, make an appointment with your foot and ankle sur-
geon. • Exercise: Simple stretching exercises can help you maintain strength and mobility in your feet and ankles, as well as provide pain relief. Talk to your physician about appropriate exercises for you. • Protect: Use padding, insoles or whatever special footwear you are prescribed. Be sure to wear these, along with comfortable, sensible shoes,

every day. • Be flexible: Know that at times, surgery is the most appropriate treatment for a given condition. Fortunately, many simple surgical techniques allow foot surgery to be performed on an outpatient basis. For more ways for to keep feet and ankles healthy, prevent falls or to find a foot and ankle surgeon near you, visit FootHealthFacts.org, the patient education website for ACFAS. Foot and ankle surgeons are experts in providing both conservative care as well as surgical approaches to foot and ankle healthcare. Remember, just one fall can permanently rob seniors of their independence and dramatically reduce their quality of life. Taking good care of feet and ankles however can reduce the risk of a life-altering slip, trip or fall. - StatePoint
