Our government has taken unprecedented measures in the attempt to keep us safe and avoid the spread of the Coronavirus. In doing so our lives have been turned upside down as we all work at figuring out how we take care of our families, pay our bills and do our best to avoid exposure to COVID-19. Inside there is important information you should know about Coronavirus, what you can do to reduce its impact, and how you can keep yourself and others safe. There are also important phone numbers and website links to help navigate through this very stressful time.

Small business owners struggle with the uncertainty of knowing if they can survive the imposed PAUSE. Please visit the chamber websites and shop your local merchants. They are creatively finding ways to serve the community within the guidelines set by New York State. Before you order goods from out of town businesses, consider buying from local merchants.
Easter and Passover will be very different this year. Avoiding large group gatherings at places of worship and cancelled family get-togethers doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate with our immediate family at home. Use technology to be closer to family and prepare a special meal or order family favorite dishes from a local restaurant.
For great meal ideas during the holiday or any time, visit the Merrick Girls Weekday Recipe Facebook Group. The facebook group began during Superstorm Sandy exchanging ideas where to find food items and what you can do with chicken cutlets. They are once again making an effort to assist the community by posting restaurant offers for pick up and delivery. This network foodies group is my go-to for new recipe ideas and as luck would have it, there are some recipes in this issue that your family is sure to enjoy.
This pandemic has taken us all for a loop but we are all doing our best to cope with the restrictions and changes. If you’re feeling a bit stir crazy take a virtual journey with a visit to a museum or national park. Our local libraries offer endless online services that are available even while the libraries are closed. Look for the links to your visual journey inside.
Would you like to get the kids doing more physical activities. Thankfully it is Springtime and the weather is getting nicer, flower buds are emerging giving us a much needed boost. Even though there are wonderful benefits of computers and cell phones, it’s important to take a break from screens to make time for some outdoor experiences like going for a bike ride, doing gardening and taking a walk around your house to look for home improvement projects. Lift your spirits by sprucing up for springtime. Painting contractor Marc Bromberg offers some suggestions on keeping your home investment in tip top shape.
