There was a buzz in the air at the five elementary schools in the North Bellmore School District on Sept. 1 as a new year began. More than 2,000 students arrived with great enthusiasm for the year ahead, along with new sneakers and backpacks.

At John G. Dinkelmeyer Elementary School, third graders in Celeste Diogo’s class had some time to catch up while they unpacked and sorted their school supplies. Kindergarten teacher Lauren LoBello reviewed daily routines with her students and emphasized that she wants them to feel at home in her classroom.
