D The internationally acclaimed fair for art and design, PAD London returns to Berkeley Square for its 12th edition running from 1–7 October 2018. This year’s London edition introduces a magnificent showcase of works staged by 68 leading galleries across art, design, decorative arts, tribal art, antiquities and collectible jewellery. Making their debut at PAD London, ten new international galleries join the fair’s roster this October. In the fields of design and decorative arts, Italian designer Achille Salvagni presents an elegant display inspired by Marie-Laure de Noailles’ signature eclecticism, mixing cultures and genres. Using a subtle palette of earth tones, the presentation combines some of Salvagni’s most iconic furniture and lighting pieces with extraordinary works by recently rediscovered Italian abstractionist Bice Lazzari. Collectible jewellery, from eye-catching wearable art to vintage and crafted contemporary jewellery, is now gaining huge momentum at international art fairs, a genre supported by PAD since its inception in 2007. For this edition the fair will broaden its offering with four new specialist galleries. French designer Lorenz Bäumer, former Artistic Director for high jewellery at Louis Vuitton and creator of emblematic collections for Chanel, exhibits whimsical architectural pieces that marry his education as an engineer and his passion for poetry, nature and colour. Lebanese designer Walid Akkad offers minimal yet opulent jewels reflecting his quest for timeless beauty and impeccable craftsmanship. Glenn Spiro, master British jeweller and former Christie’s expert, unveils his spectacular designs inspired by nature and demonstrating his innovative work with titanium. Recognised as a trendsetting stalwart in the fine jewellery industry, Objet d’Émotion – Valéry Demure draws together an unrivalled selection of vintage gems and contemporary creations by emerging talents such as Melanie Georgacopoulos, Francesca Villa and Polly Wales. These galleries join PAD’s existing stable of specialists in the field, including New York’s antique jewellery powerhouse Siegelson, showcasing rare blue-chip jewels such as an exceptional suite by Suzanne Belperron from 1951 offered for sale for the first time ever, and an iconic Art Moderne bracelet by Jean Després from 1931. The PAD London Prize will also return this year with a prestigious panel of judges co-presided over by Yana Peel and Francis Sultana. Three awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Contemporary Design, Best 20th Century Design and Best Stand.

London Design Festival London Design Festival returns for the 16th year this month, celebrating 10 years at the V&A as the official Festivalhub. Boasting an inspiring programme of landmark projects, installations and events from 15-23 September 2018, London Design Festival’s vision is to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world. In 2017, the Festival welcomed a record-breaking 450,000 individual visitors from over 75 countries. In addition, London Design Festival helped drive a total of 173,250 visits to the V&A over the Festival period with 22% of those surveyed saying they had never visited the museum before and were driven there by the Festival. This year, for the nine days of the Festival, visitors to the V&A will explore a range of special displays and installations throughout the museum, complemented by an extensive programme of events, daily tours, and workshops from Global Design Forum. Dr Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A says: “This year’s programme is bigger and more ambitious than ever and presents a unique opportunity for leading designers to engage with and respond to the V&A’s world-class collections of art, design and performance. London Design Festival occupies a vital role in London’s thriving design sector, reaffirming London’s position as the world’s leading global design capitals.” London Design Festival will launch a series of city-wide commissions and installations. Returning for their fifth London Design Festival is The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), with a playful, ambitious and immersive Tulipwood structure, which will be the first installation ever to be located in the new Sackler Courtyard at the V&A. The Festival receives support from the Mayor’s Office and is delighted to continue its longstanding partnership with British Land as Headline Partner. Totally Thames returns with a fantastic annual season of over 100 events celebrating the River Thames. This year’s exciting programme will look at the river as an inspiration and source of creativity connecting London to other cities around the world, while also celebrating the heritage of our river and long-standing traditions the river holds. The specially curated programme of arts, culture, heritage and active events includes foreshore archaeological walks, a poetry boat party and live music under the river in Tower Bridge’s Bascule Chambers. Highlights include The World’s Oldest Boat Race, and Rivers of the World, a Thames Festival Trust project in partnership with the British Council which has worked with 30,000 12-14 year olds in 30 countries around the world to inspire young people to learn about rivers through art and creativity. This exhibition of river-inspired

artwork has been created by young people from around the world working in collaboration with professional artists to explore and express what rivers mean to communities today. This year’s exhibition will feature work from Barking & Dagenham, Exeter, Worcester in the UK as well as Kenya, Malawi and Palestine. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, comments ‘Totally Thames is a fantastic celebration of London’s historic 42-mile River Thames. It brings together Londoners young and old, with a range of over 100 artistic, participatory and community activities and events across the city - whether you’re in Richmond, Southwark, Greenwich or Barking and Dagenham. Open House London 2018 22-23 September

After 2017’s record breaking 25th edition of Open House London, the festival will once again return this September with every London borough participating. A truly citywide celebration of London’s buildings, places and spaces, the event gives a unique opportunity to explore and learn about the city’s most compelling architecture and design over one weekend. More than 800 buildings of all kinds will open their doors on 22 & 23 September, alongside a programme of neighbourhood walks and architect-led tours - all for free. This year’s programme explores how the new London that has been emerging the past 20 years is finally coming to fruition. New buildings, new kinds of buildings, new districts, new approaches to regeneration, women taking a leading role in making London, engineering excellence underpinning the capital’s successful reinvention - these all show how good design can make London a more enjoyable and vibrant city in which to live and work. Discover tomorrow’s Art today START Art Fair works to build networks and opportunities for young, forward-thinking artists and galleries. It enables their artistic practice to be presented to an international and culturally engaged audience, at a world-renowned venue and aims to create the infrastructure to shape the art world beyond the markets of yesterday and into the fabric of tomorrow. David and Serenella Ciclitira, co-founders of START are art collectors who have, through world travel, visited many non-mainstream exhibitions and art fairs which inspired them to launch something a little different to what’s currently available in the way of supporting emerging artists across the world. This September START will present its fifth edition, of particular interest is London-based The Gallery of Everything, which has chosen START as its first ever fair appearance. This young gallery is fast becoming a key player with its ahead-of-thecurve approach and will be presenting two emerging international artists who use the memories of their violent and unpredictable pasts to influence their practice. Other new exciting exhibitors at this year’s fair include AN INC. (South Korea), showing Japanese artist Kazz Morishita’s new innovative series entitled Kazz Moon, a dedication to the moon that has been captured through his unique photographic compositions combining traditional camera work with modern technology. Joining him will be SMO Contemporary Art (Nigeria), specialising in using the full range of artistic expression - from visual art and dance to poetry and performance - and exhibiting Nigerian artists Nengi Omuku, Olumide Onadipe and Ngozie Omeje, as well as Galleri Fagerstedt (Sweden). London’s Skipwith’s gallery returns for the fourth time, proving that START is the place to buy emerging art. Complementing START’s ethos of a refreshing presentation of up and coming unseen artistic practices through its galleries are a

series of curated projects. Liu Bolin: The Disappearing Act was a live performance by Liu Bolin and a highlight of START 2017. The performance received widespread success, featuring on Sky News, The Daily Telegraph and Evening Standard. START is committed to bringing more exciting and innovative collaborative projects to light on an international stage in central London. This year in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Art, which celebrated its 90th anniversary this year, and world renowned Hong Kong based curator and gallerist Tsong-zung Chang, known in the west as Johnson Chang, START Projects will present “Resolution District”, bringing nine of China’s most forward thinking young artists to London’s Saatchi Gallery. Demonstrating that START is leading the world of art fairs for the benefit of collectors and artists alike, this year START founded The Collectors’ Club to foster their mission to not only discover and present ‘tomorrow’s art today’ during the week of the fair, but to also bring together diverse but like minded individuals, collectors, artists and art organisations and businesses, innovators and pioneers in the industry year round. Marrying traditional watchmaking with state-of-the-art manufacturing methods and technologies, this new centre brings outstanding levels of quality and precision to the production of movement components and cases. However, assembling the manufacture movements remains a task that must be carefully performed by the most experienced hands. Tangente from Nomos Glashütte has an impressive history to say the least, no other model from the famous fine watchmaking town of Glashütte has been in production longer. Presage Shippo Enamel Limited Edition

Seiko’s Presage collection, first presented in 2016, provided the perfect illustration of the brands character, showcasing respect for traditional Japanese craftsmanship and a well established skill for mechanical watchmaking. Now, the 2018 collection delivers a vivid demonstration of Seiko’s ability to explore new avenues of development in both areas. Shippo - these limited editions namesake - is a particular type of enamel that was developed in Japan in the 17th century. Its main difference from porcelain enamel lies in the way it is polished after firing, a process that is particularly challenging on a watch dial that is no more than 1 mm high. The Presage Shippo enamel dial is made by Ando Cloisonne, a specialist manufacturer in Nagoya with over 100 years of history. Craftsman Wataru Totani paints

the glaze by hand onto the surface of the dial. To ensure that the dials comply with Seiko’s high ecological and safety standards as well as the EU’s RoHS Directive, he uses a lead-free glaze specially developed for these watches. The dial is then fired at 800 degrees Celsius. The painting and firing processes are repeated several times to ensure the evenness of the enamel. Only when Totani is completely satisfied is the dial polished so that the delicate pattern emerges and a perfect, smooth surface is achieved. The deep, longlasting blue of the enamel reflects the everlasting blue colour of the seas around Japan and the dial pattern echoes the continuous motion of the waves that break on its shores, a reminder of how the technique arrived in Japan. To coincide with this spectacular dial, a new automatic caliber, 6L35, has been developed for the Presage collection. This new caliber has been designed for slimness whilst offering higher specifications than their trusted and much admired 6R15 caliber. Not only is the movement itself thinner, but the new case construction allows the slimness to be accentuated. The movement is inserted from the front of the case which allows the sides to be angled inwards and for the watch to sit more comfortably on the wrist. The case is polished using Seiko’s Zaratsu technique and is protected by a super-hard coating. This new watch is offered in a limited edition of 1881, in recognition of the year in which Seiko was founded. After launching in June this year, La Mia Mamma Italian restaurant is wowing its customers with an entirely new dining concept. Located on the bustling, ever popular King’s Road in Chelsea, the menu focuses on local cuisines specific to twenty different areas of Italy that will change every three months and will be available alongside its main menu. This fabulous idea will see a succession of Italian Mammas being flown over from each Italian region to cook authentic, traditional family recipes that have been handed down for generations and each Mamma will be in complete control of her menu. The first Mamma to arrive from the beautiful, sun-kissed Mediterranean island of Sicily is Mamma Lidia Romero. Armed with her very own recipe book, she has lovingly produced a threecourse menu which reflects the local Sicilian cuisine. Happily greeting customers as they arrive at the restaurant, you can see her in the window making fresh pasta by hand and chatting away in Italian to fellow Mammas or even guests with a big smile on her face. You can then add a pasta such as Cavatelli con Pomodorini e Pancetta di Maialino dei Nebrodi which is pasta shells served with Sicilian cherry tomatoes & Italian bacon made from a breed of pig near Messina or you can choose a main dish. This includes Pollo Alla Cacciatora Chicken cooked in homemade tomato sauce, capers, olives, celery and onions. Of course, you can always have both pasta and mains depending on your appetite. Follow this with Cannolo Siciliano Scomposto which is a very popular Sicilian dessert made with crispy pastry layers with creamy sweet homemade ricotta cheese. A range of Italian wines and cocktails are also available to go hand-inhand with the food. Taking its name from Indian philosophy, Chakras (there are seven of them) quite literally means a swirling wheel of energy in the body where matter and consciousness meet, and this invisible energy is the life force which contributes to our happiness and wellbeing. With this in mind, the vibrantly colourful interior of the main restaurant with its rich fabrics compliments the lush greenery of the cleverly designed, intimate outdoor terrace specifically reflecting the energy of each chakra. Another favourite is Jalandhar chicken which is Chakraâ€™s version of the Punjab classic. Cooked in the tandoor, succulent grilled chicken is simmered in a fine tomato and cream masala. Other options include coastal prawn curry cooked with tomato, ginger, bell pepper and aromatic spices as well as several vegetarian dishes and an excellent choice to clear your palate is the home-made sorbet of the week. Chakra menus are always evolving, and it lives up to its name by serving irresistible, unique Indian cuisine made from high quality, freshly sourced seasonal ingredients with a contemporary twist. The Restaurant Located minutes from Oxford Circus, The Restaurant at Sanderson is an urban oasis complete with natural and botanical surroundings serving contemporary British food with seasonal produce. Situated by the quirky hotel’s Long Bar, The Restaurant has recently appointed Barry Tonks as Executive Chef. Tonks boasts nearly 20 years of experience from some of London’s most famous establishments, including Searcys at The Gherkin, The Dorchester Hotel and L’Odeon Restaurant. Under the guidance of the legendary Anthony Demetre at L’Odeon, he worked as Chef de Partie and Sous Chef at the iconic 200-cover modern European restaurant. In his most recent role as Executive Chef at Searcys, he demonstrated his skills and interests through a series of high profile pop-ups and collaborations, most famously alongside Monica Galleti in January 2016. His new appointment at The Restaurant showcases his passion for British produce and contemporary style. Dishes are well-executed and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Highlights include fresh

crab, spiced avocado, compressed melon, black radish; creamy burrata with heritage tomatoes and extra virgin fig leaf olive oil; beef fillet, café de Paris butter, charred spring onion and black garlic puree; and cod, kohlrabi, saffron, sea herbs and parsley oil. Other standout dishes include Grilled Octopus with seaweed salsa; and Monkfish Tandoori. Side-wise, triple cooked chips are always a winner as are the seasonal salads which can also double up as starters. The kale radish, avocado, hazelnuts and blue cheese salad is a fantastic accompaniment to the beef fillet. For dessert try the whipped rice pudding with alphonso mango and burnt mango gel; or the decadent chocolate torte. There is also a great British artisanal seasonal cheese board for savoury fans. The varied menu is complimented by a varied wine list, and signature cocktails, spirits and beers are also available. With seating inside and outside in the hotel’s atmospheric courtyard, the Restaurant is a welcome escape from the busy streets of London and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Park Lane based Galvin brother's restaurant is renowned not only for the spectacular views on offer, but the incredible French cuisine. Now, head chef Joo Won delivers something a little different, bringing some Korean inspiration and ingredients to the table. Available for lunch and dinner, the Korean DĂŠgustation 8-course tasting menu fuses traditional skills and ideas synonymous with French cuisine with some more unique flavour combinations and ingredients that you might not be so familiar with from Korea. Starting with an awakening 'Soju Sour' cocktail - made with the authentic Korean spirit - and paired with a delicate amuse bouche, the menu immediately gives you a hint of what to expect, and that is...the unexpected! Next up you will discover the truly intriguing flavour and aesthetic of South Korean rice beer paired with a stunning and delicious raw kingfish dish that welcomes you into the menu with open arms. Beautiful in presentation and exquisite in flavour, each of these dishes have been masterfully crafted to deliver a fusion of flavours unlike anything you are likely to have experienced before. This is not Asian fusion cuisine, it is French cookery that has received a healthy injection of Korean delights and the result is incredible. Flavour combinations that you would never have imagined work perfectly on the plate and the addition of such a unique drinks pairing only adds to the anticipation and excitement over what you might be presented with next. The menu continues in the same vein throughout and doesn't let out until the very end. A lip-smackingly good fruit salad completes the meal with bright fresh fruits supported by refreshing ice cream and a lemonade foam that you wish you could replicate at home.

A globally recognised personality and trendsetter in the world of mixed drinks, JJ Goodman is the founder and owner of the London Cocktail Club bar group and Craft Cocktail Co.

The summer shenanigans may be coming to a close, but the cocktail scene is as vibrant as ever right now with new bars & spirits cropping up all over the place; and as co-owner of London Cocktail Club I’ve experienced this first hand…with a martini in my left. A sports coupĂŠ with a difference, the Lexus RC F possesses something a little out of the ordinary that makes it an inviting prospect over its competitors. Released on the world back in 2014, this 2+2 powerhouse not only packs the Japanese marque's most powerful V8 unit, but seems to have been crafted from a futuristic world that has substantial access to steroids.

Styling is most certainly this cars initial standout feature, with an aggressive stance, gaping front grille, perfect for swallowing up the necessary air for cooling - or any other road users that might not be quite as fast - and bulging wheel arches that double as aerodynically sculpted features to complete the racing appeal that this car so openly oozes.

LEXUS RC F

Taking the 'standard' RC and pumping it full of testosterone using the 'F' philosophy, Lexus have transformed the refined, luxury coupĂŠ into a refined, luxury coupĂŠ that is endlessly eager to show off visually, audibly and physically. Everything about this car has been designed and developed to illustrate the brands modern heritage with the likes of the LFA supercar, delivering an experience born from the world of motorsport and track racing that you can enjoy on the road. Visually there is no mistaking this car. Everything from the quadruple exhaustpipe setup to the wide, low and angular front profile offer immediate indications of the RC F's intentions. And nothing really changes once you start the engine. Those rear pipes rumble and roar as you caress the accelerator and simply get louder and more aggressive the more vigorously you press it. Acceleration comes fast and sharp as you move through the 8-speed transmission, hitting 62 mph from standing in a swift 4.5 seconds and continuing to an electronically restricted 168 mph. Despite this, there are some compromises to be had. At lower speeds, the RC F is a little less comfortable in its gear selection

and will continue to encourage you to push a little harder, which, although the main purpose of this car, can make rolling in traffic an even less enjoyable affair. However, the engineers at Lexus weren't really tasked with making a sports version of the RC that was to be the most adept at tackling traffic...thankfully, so the result is considerably more fun on the open road. Delivering the worlds first torque vectoring differential in a front engine, rear-wheel drive sports car - allowing it to put the necessary power to individual wheels improving stability, traction and manouverability - the RC F brings with it a driving experience that was built to impress. Get behind the wheel and you will quickly begin to understand and enjoy the naturally aspirated V8 unit's relationship with the rest of the car and the road. Producing 478 PS with a whopping 530 Nm of torque working through five drive select options which automatically adapt the ride, engine response and gear ratios to suit the selected style of driving. This is not the quiet retiring type, this is a car that is desperate to be noticed - not that

it needs to try very hard - and is always eager to show you what it can do. With a luxurious, comfortable and driver-friendly interior space featuring an adaptive driver interface that displays information according to the active drive select mode, you could be mistaken into thinking this was nothing more than a comfortable luxury car, but as soon as you alter that selection to sport or sport+, you are immediately thrust out of that opinion and into a world far beyond your run-of-the-mill coupés and racer-boy wannabes.

British manufacturer, McLaren Automotive have introduced a new service to authenticate the heritage of iconic McLaren F1 supercars. The launch of the new programme is coincident with the unveiling of the first F1 to be approved for certification, the renowned ‘25R’ 1997 F1 GTR Longtail. Pristine after a full restoration to ‘as new’ condition by McLaren Special Operations, the last F1 GTR to compete in period was one of the stars of the Hampton Court Concours of Elegance. “Even among F1 GTRs, this car, designated ‘25R’, is unique and now it is as near to being new as we can make it,” commented Ansar Ali, Managing Director, McLaren Special Operations (MSO). “The car is the exemplar of everything that the new certification programme stands for and we are proud to have ‘25R’ as the very first McLaren F1 Certified car.” Announced at Hampton Court with the unveiling of the chassis number 25 car, the F1 Certified programme has been developed to guarantee the authenticity of both road and track versions of the Le Mans-winning supercar, offering ultimate peace of mind for current and future owners. A unique Certificate of Authenticity - which McLaren Automotive is the only body in the world able to issue - authenticates a car’s provenance, originality, service life, road/race history and condition. Conformity with the original specification and to any McLaren-sanctioned upgrades is

confirmed by reference to the factory archives. Along with the certificate, owners receive a bespoke illustrated book documenting the history of their car. In total 106 McLaren F1s were built between 1993-98, among them 64 road cars and 28 GTR race cars, and all are eligible for the scheme. The new parts used in ‘25R’ go further than being specific to the 1997 GTR; they are all pre-June 1997 parts, ensuring the car is exactly as it would have been in the run-up to Le Mans that year. This includes the ‘tall’ Le Mans gearing and the blue roof identification lights - taken from an aircraft’s wing, and the only non-McLaren part in the entire car - with which the car was fitted for Le Mans. With the new body panels displaying the exact GulfDavidoff team livery and bearing the car’s 1997 Le Mans number 39, ‘25R’ is a true 21-years-old time-warp machine. “McLaren cherishes its rich heritage of iconic and worldbeating cars such as the F1,” said McLaren Automotive Chief Executive Officer Mike Flewitt. “’25R’ presented us with a unique opportunity to demonstrate this by restoring it to precisely how it was when it raced at Le Mans in 1997, thus ensuring its future. Maintaining the integrity of these historically significant cars is paramount and F1 Certified will play a big role in allowing us to do that for the peace of mind of owners today as well as preserving a wonderful heritage for future generations of car lovers.”

The F355 Berlinetta began production in 1994 and hit the roads in '95, swiftly followed by the Spider and GTS (targa) versions. Initially, the car was solely available with a 6-speed manual transmission, however, in '97, the Berlinetta became the firstever road car to be equipped with the innovative F1-style gearbox management system. Derived directly from Formula 1 - where it made its debut in 1989 winning the Brazilian Grand Prix - the electro-hydraulic system is operated by paddles behind the steering wheel using the F355â€™s conventional 6-speed manual gearbox. Now a mainstay in most performance cars, this new transmission guaranteed faster gear changes, with the additional advantage that both of the driverâ€™s hands could stay on the wheel at all times, improving the all-round driving experience. The 355's name deviated from Ferrari's usual formula - which incorporated the engine size followed by the number of cylinders

as in its predecessor the 348 - by indicating the engine capacity followed by the number of valves per cylinder. This was to illustrate the engine developments delivered in the car, despite just a 0.1l increase in engine size, the new 5-valve cylinder head increased power dramatically over the outgoing model. This 1998 left-hand drive version is beautifully presented in the iconic Rosso 'Ferrari Red' coachwork with nero leather interior and is in fantastic order.
