Art on a Postcard The Winter Auction raising money for The Hepatitis C Trust The largest Art on a Postcard Winter Auction to date takes place this month, in celebration of twenty years of The Hepatitis C Trust. This marks the seventh edition of the auction and culminates their celebration of twenty successful years raising awareness for the illness, supporting those living with it and taking key steps towards its eradication. For this edition 250 artists, including Ryan Mosely, Petra schott, Lisbeth Mitty and Hurvin Anderson, have created approximately 550 unique, mini postcard masterpieces. The Art on a Postcard auction is an essential and innovative fundraising tool, forming a key pillar of The Hepatitis C Trust’s annual operations. This auction sees the return of Art on a Postcard’s loyal contributors including Royal Academician Mick Rooney, whose imaginative story paintings explore inner mythologies, neurosis, dreams and the secrets of modern society. His commissioned works include a wall mosaic for a new Basilica in Nazareth, Israel and a painting in honour of The Financial Times centenary in 1988. British painter Peter Messer who uses his native Lewes as a backdrop for his sometimes supernatural metaworld, full of ghostly figures at windows or lurking in trees, and always against a Sussex wall absorbed into an everyday setting. Deborah Batt, whose work lies in between abstract and representational has also created a piece for the auction. For this exciting edition, new artists have joined the auction including Hurvin Anderson, Petra Schott, and Lisbeth Mitty. Hurvin Anderson is a painter born in Birmingham to Jamaican parents; his vibrant works utilise the genres of still-life, landscape, and portraiture to explore representations of community and

abstracted colourscapes which aim to bring viewers back to internal and existential questions, plus Sheffield based artist Ryan Mosely whose narrative style of painting was included in The Whitechapel’s show Painting in the New Millennium. New York based painter Lizbeth Mitty’s body of work - described by New York Times critic Ken Johnson as a combination of “painterly verve and hellish beauty” - has long been concerned with examining and amplifying the intrinsic abstract beauty of deteriorating or overlooked corners of urban architecture and interiors. These artists, among many others, will each create a handmade, postcard scale mini-masterpiece for auction, with all proceeds going to The Hepatitis C Trust. Gemma Peppé, founder and director of Art on a Postcard, comments: “This year’s auction is so full of exceptional little works; it feels like there is an unconventional theme which has come together on its own and which is perfect for a celebration of The Hepatitis C Trust’s 20 years. The Trust stands alone in its glorious, idiosyncratic unconventionality, we have never followed a formula or rules and many of us hadn’t worked in an office when we started. It’s a miracle we’ve got where we are now.” In its twenty years of operation, The Hepatitis C Trust has made an incredible difference to the lives of those living with this disease. Due to the Trust’s work, the illness has been lifted from obscurity; when they began their vital work there was almost no public information surrounding Hepatitis C, currently the disease is much more widely understood, sufferers are receiving more effective treatment and support, and large steps are being taken towards eradicate the disease. Art on a Postcard is an example of

identity. He uses layered paintings and prints to touch upon his Jamaican heritage and the places, and spaces that are central to his communities. German painter Petra Schott creates semi-

The Trust’s innovative approach to charity work and is an essential fundraising tool for The Trust. The Auction runs from 4th-25th November.

SEA INSPIRED CLUB SPORT Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph After the success of the Royal British Legion release in May 2021, AVI-8 has announced the launch of two new timepieces, the Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition and the Flyboy Royal British Legion Chairman’s Meca-Quartz Limited Edition, produced to support and commemorate this important charity in their centennial year. With 1,000 units produced for each of the new models, every timepiece sold will help the RBL continue their vital work supporting those who serve and have served in the British Armed Forces and their families. The two new timepieces have been inspired by the charity’s first Chairman, Sir Thomas Frederick Lister, and the first President, Field Marshall Earl Haig. The Royal British Legion was formed by Lister and Haig in the aftermath of the First World War to fight for the rights of those who had given so much and come back to so little. Today, the charity continues to stand with the Armed Forces community and challenge injustices to ensure all those who have served and sacrificed on our behalf get the fair treatment and recognition they deserve. Every timepiece is presented with an exclusive RBL 2021 dated poppy lapel pin. Since it was first worn as an act of Remembrance just over 100 years ago, the poppy has become an enduring symbol of support for our Armed Forces, past and present. Offering legibility and a balanced aesthetic, the Founder’s Limited Edition is a true bicompax chronograph fused with vintage elements, such as cathedral style hands and a telemeter on the chapter ring. Completing the dial is a striking red poppy on the chronograph seconds hand as a symbol of Remembrance. At 40mm in diameter, the case is perfectly sized and proportioned. An “onion” style crown draws from trench watches in the early 20th century and became a quintessential feature later used in the first pilot watches. Topping the crown is a beautiful red two petal poppy encased in epoxy. The Founder’s edition features a dependable Japanese meca-quartz chronograph movement that blends the best of both worlds - quartz accuracy and the crisp hand feel of a mechanical movement. A vintage inspired supple handstitched genuine leather strap ensures a comfortable and snug fit. Flyboy Royal British Legion Founder’s Chronograph Limited Edition £225.00. £15 from the sale will be paid to Royal British Legion Trading Limited which gives its taxable profits to The Royal British Legion | avi-8.co.uk/royalbritishlegion

The colour of the ocean, and built for it, Nomos Glashütte present a new version of the patented neomatik watch along with a new bracelet. Club, the sportiest family of the German manufacture’s watches has expanded and is now even more impressive. A new version of Club Sport neomatik 42 date - now with a galvanized dial in blue and rich sunburst finish. This is a watch which perfectly balances strength and proportion and of course boasts a precision movement built in-house. What makes this newcomer special, besides its sunburst finish dial and elegant, strong colour, is a new stainless steel bracelet. It has been custom-made for this watch. The sporty linked bracelet with folding safety clasp sits snug against the case with the bracelet and watch appearing inseparable, becoming one. The white hands glow blue in the dark and like its sister model in black, the watch has a diameter of 42mm and is water-resistant to a depth of 300 meters. This makes it suited for all sports, including those in and under water. A signal-red ring around the stem of the crown alerts the wearer, before contact with the water, if the crown is not screwed tight. The movement is the well-known and patented DUW 6101 date caliber from the Nomos Glashütte neomatik series. It features a bidirectional, rapidly adjustable date with a super-small timeframe during which the date cannot be set, and an extremely efficient bidirectional winding rotor. The movement’s slender design (3.6 millimeters high) made a particularly robust case possible, meaning whatever the wearer does, the movement is well-protected. nomos-glashuette.com

ZEITWERK HONEYGOLD “LUMEN” The revolutionary technology and design concept of the Zeitwerk model series has been unique since 2009. Developed exclusively for A. Lange & Söhne timepieces, this new version introduces Lange’s proprietary honey gold while the designation “Lumen” refers to the specially developed, semi-transparent dial that makes the luminous jumping numerals display fully visible. The combination of these unique features makes each of the 200 watches in this limited edition a timepiece that is unique in three ways. With its three-disc jumping numerals mechanism that indicates the time in a digital format, the Zeitwerk has ranked among the most progressive mechanical wristwatches since 2009. In the interest of superb legibility at all times, the product developers at A. Lange & Söhne questioned everything except the mechanical paradigm. In addition to two discs for the tens and units-minutes, the jumping numerals mechanism is endowed with a large hour ring that spans almost the entire diameter of the movement. All numerals are identical in size. They switch precisely and read from left to right. Two mainspring barrels deliver the power needed for switching. The switching point is controlled by a patented constant-force escapement. It also assures that the balance is always driven with constant power. Refined from the bottom up, the Zeitwerk calibre L043.9 has twice the power reserve of its predecessor model - 72 hours. The pusher at 4 o’clock is new - allowing the hour indication to be switched separately, which in turn makes it simpler to set the time. The switching impulse is

generated when it is released. The advantage is that switching is always uniformly executed, regardless of how gently or vigorously the pusher is actuated. The pioneering technical concept is paired with an equally innovative design. One of its most prominent elements is the curved time bridge that dominates the dial. It is part of the movement and forms an elegant frame for all time indications. In the Zeitwerk Honeygold “Lumen“, it consists of black rhodiumed German silver and thus integrates well with the dark sapphire crystal dial. The light-permeable coating of the dial allows the luminous numerals that are not exposed in the aperture to absorb enough UV light and thus light energy needed to make them glow in the dark. Consequently, the digital display remains visible even right after each switching sequence. At night, the numerals discs that are only vaguely discernible during the day cause the watch to glow. Limited to 200 watches, the Zeitwerk Honeygold “Lumen” continues the tradition that began eleven years ago and transcends it. The case, with a diameter of 41.9 millimetres, is made of Lange’s proprietary honey gold - a first for a “Lumen” model. Various admixtures and a special thermal treatment endow the 18-carat gold alloy with extra hardness and an inimitably warm lustre. The hands of the powerreserve indicator and of the subsidiary seconds as well as the Lange prong buckle are made of the same material. Combined with a dark dial and a darkbrown leather strap, the hue is an eye-catcher.

URWERK

UR-112

AGGREGAT The UR-112 Aggregat is the latest addition to Urwerk’s Special Project collection, a laboratory offering horological freedom where follies are encouraged. Co-founders Felix Baumgartner, master watchmaker, and Martin Frei, artistic director and designer, started this new adventure from a blank page, and a sketchbook overflowing with ideas. The UR-112 Aggregat was inspired by a dream of a new mechanical challenge where technicality has the centre stage. The beauty of this timepiece lies in the complexity of its gears and near-manic assembly precision heralding the genesis of a watchmaking tour de force. Aggregat is a compendium of 25.5 grams of distilled technique, offering fully digital time displays, from hours down to seconds. A double or nothing challenge for the watchmaker who is betting with microns. Starting with the hour and the minutes, each are displayed on triangular prisms operating under transparent cylinders, which appear as levitating mechanisms to be admired through the crystal. On the left, the digital hour display. Each of the 12 numerals is engraved then filled with Super-LumiNova. The transcription of time takes the form of a sign display switching sharply to a chronometric rhythm. On the right, the same system displays the minutes although freed from the strain of the singular, they instead jump in 5-minute increments. The operation of the jumping hours display is driven by the advance of the minutes. At the 60th minute, the force accumulated during those last 3600 seconds is released to change the time to the next hour.

But the primary source of all this power is rooted in the basic movement opposite this Dantesque construction. A long, thin rod connects the body and head of the UR-112. This is the cardan shaft, a central part of vital importance to this mechanism. A complex set of cogs, a succession of gears, allows this axis to transmit all the energy required. And this despite a 90° turnaround. This transmission shaft with double gearing - one at each end - is perpendicular to the horizonal time indication. The movement of the UR-112 nestles inside a hunter case with a hinged titanium protective cover. Pressing the pushers on either side of the case unlocks the cover and it springs up, revealing an elaborate display of digital seconds. Etched on tiny silicon wafer disks, tiny numerals parade under a magnifying lens beside the only analogue display of the UR-112, a 48-hour power-reserve indicator.

CERATANIUM IWC Schaffhausen has added two Ceratanium® models to its Top Gun Pilot’s Watch range. Engineered in Schaffhausen, this innovative new material combines the structural integrity of titanium with a scratch-resistance similar to that of ceramic and features a stunning matte black colour. The Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Ceratanium is the first watch from the manufacture with a Ceratanium® bracelet, which is lighter than steel and very comfortable to wear. The Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Ceratanium is the first in the range with a Timezoner® complication, allowing the wearer to change between different time zones effortlessly. Both novelties are powered by IWC-manufactured movements from the 52000 and 82000 calibre families. Advanced performance materials such as ceramics, titanium and Ceratanium® are a signature feature of the Top Gun pilot’s watches. They take their name from the legendary Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Program, a rigorous course used by the US Navy to train its elite pilots in flying and tactical skills. The watches are engineered to deliver ultimate performance and can withstand even the extreme strain pilots experience in the cockpit of a supersonic jet. After pioneering the use of ceramics and titanium for wristwatches during the 1980s, IWC’s material engineers have now succeeded in combining the unique strengths of these two in a single, ground-breaking material. In addition, Ceratanium® is also skin-friendly and highly resistant to corrosion. The Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Ceratanium can be set to a different time zone by simply pressing down and rotating the bezel. The hour hand, the 24-hour display and the date will move forwards or backwards in one-hour steps. This also works across the dateline and without losing a single second. The case is made of Ceratanium®, while the city ring is manufactured from ceramic. It contains the names of 24 cities, each one representing one of the international time zones. The numerals are printed in gray on the dial, while the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9 are coated with a luminescent material. The jet-black tactical design is complemented with a tinted sapphire glass case back and a black rubber strap with textile inlay. The IWC-manufactured 82760 calibre uses a Pellaton winding system reinforced with ceramic components to build up a power reserve of 60 hours in the mainspring. The annual production of the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Ceratanium will be limited to 500 pieces. iwc.com

BOVET

a t is Batt

The Pininfarina name is characterized by its rich history in design excellence and craftsmanship, creating automotive artwork for more than 90 years. Bovet echoes this ethos in horology, with generations of artisans over its almost 200 years of history shaping incredible, meticulously detailed timepiece artistry. This mutual expertise was apparent from the very beginning of Bovet and Automobili Pininfarina’s partnership in creating the Battista Tourbillon timepiece alongside the Battista hyper GT, when Bovet owner Mr. Pascal Raffy and the Automobili Pininfarina Design Team met for the first time in Cambiano, Italy. The unique skills of both houses led to the creation of a one-of-a-kind timepiece that simply could not have been be realized without the shared development process between the craftsmen at Bovet 1822 and the design team at Automobili Pininfarina. The completely in-house development and manufacturing of this handmade masterpiece of horology, constructed by the world’s most skilled precision artisans, offers the freedom to create highly bespoke parts and decorations with utmost precision, while assuring that the highest quality standards can be met. The creation of a client’s Battista is a process of virtually unlimited personalization, with more than 128 million combinations for the interior colour and materials alone, ensuring the only limits are the dreams of the client. Because of the expertise between the two houses, this can be taken a step further, giving clients the possibility to express their own personalities and that of their bespoke Battista through the Battista Tourbillon as well. With a focus on lightness and purity, the timepiece extends Battista’s design philosophy and brings it to another dimension. Detailing inspired by Battista’s most characteristic design features can be found in every part of the timepiece, including the movement’s mechanical components. The exquisite craftsmanship of Bovet made it possible to design remarkable details that only the most skilled artisans can

manufacture by hand. Box sapphire crystals on both sides ensure that the inner beauty of this mechanical masterpiece can be enjoyed and admired, opening up the view of the movement visible from all sides. In addition, the sapphire crystals are shaped at 12 and 6 o’clock to integrate the specially-designed Vegan rubber straps. The process of manufacturing a timepiece at this level of complexity and quality is based around the highly skilled artisans from the house of Bovet, who make nearly every component of their timepieces in-house at the production facility in the village of Tramelan, Switzerland. One of Battista’s most recognizable features, the E-Heart represents Automobili Pininfarina’s spirit for constant innovation. It is the physical element that, besides being functional, acts as an icon on Battista and all the following automobiles. Where in Battista the E-Heart indicates the state of charging, in the Battista Tourbillon the E-Heart-shaped aperture of the Big Date on the front, and on the back showing Bovet’s patented differential winding mechanism; the mechanism that makes rewinding the timepiece for a full 10-days of power reserve easier and quicker. This way, the E-Heart doesn’t just find a place in the timepiece for visual reference, it has an actual shared function as well. The Battista Tourbillon truly represents the pinnacle of haute horlogerie. From the exquisite details and finishing of each and every component to the utmost complexity of the movement, the timepiece is a showcase of high watchmaking at its finest. Each element, whether functional or decorative, is designed to represent the shared values of Automobili Pininfarina and Bovet. The construction of the Battista Tourbillon results in a highly three-dimensional appearance, with each part of the movement and its complications clearly visible both from the face of the timepiece as well as through the exhibition case back and the exposed sides. The 45.6-millimeter case consists of two large sapphire crystals, enhancing the lightness and purity of the design.

Frederique Constant’s Fine Watchmaking The most complex mechanical calendar ever invented - this is the Highlife Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Manufacture. Not only does this piece represent what Frederique Constant has done best for nearly 35 years, it is also an all-important example of Fine Watchmaking thanks to its technicality, beauty and precision, not forgetting what has set the manufacture apart from the very beginning - accessibility. Available in 18 carat rose gold or steel, this piece is bold. It breaks rules that were thought to be set in stone. Frederique Constant proves you can design something truly modern, but enhanced with timehonoured complications. Then produce and assemble them at the Geneva-based manufacture and create the most accessible Quantième Perpétuel Tourbillon Manufacture ever made. In the end, succeeding in uniting what some believed would not be possible and bringing a lively, modern, elegant and accurate timepiece to life. As with any such high-performance complication, optimum readability is key. Within the 41mm case with the integrated strap characteristic of the Highlife collection, Frederique Constant has organised its complications into four segments. The day and date are the most useful pieces of information and read every day, therefore being arranged horizontally in this order, so as to be read in a natural and intuitive way in a fraction of a second. Brought together in a single counter at 12 o’clock are the month (large hand) and leap year indication (small hand). Adding the finishing touch to this perfectly mastered aesthetic composition, the tourbillon balances it out at 6 o’clock, counting down the seconds with its central hand. This subtle composition is powered by the FC-975 calibre. It is designed, produced and assembled in very limited numbers at the Geneva-based manufacture. For greater precision (an essential

characteristic of the tourbillon), Frederique Constant has equipped it with a silicone escapement - both the escape wheel and the lever. This choice of technology is a real favourite of the Manufacture, providing collectors with a piece that is stable and accurate, unaffected by temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields, including those associated with the digital environment, such as computers, smartphones and tablets. You can appreciate the inner workings of this exceptional movement from any angle on the Highlife Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Manufacture, on the dial side and on the back. Correctors used to set the watch are discreetly tucked away in the caseband. The two versions are dominated by the colour blue. On both sides of the complications on display, Frederique Constant has opted for a face without a dial. This allows you to see the inner workings of the FC975 Manufacture calibre, alongside the delicate blued screws, perlage and subtle Côtes de Genève. It also improves the contrast between the rhodium-plated movement and the perpetual calendar display. To ensure it is easy to read, the Manufacture has also been careful to give them recessed counters on two levels, so as to better capture the light. Although the Highlife Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Manufacture is strictly limited to 30 pieces for the rose gold version and 88 for the steel version, collectors can create different looks for their numbered and engraved watches. Each one comes with two straps, which can be swapped around at will, without the need for tools. The rose gold version comes with a topstitched alligator leather strap, alongside a second rubber strap, reinforcing the urban and contemporary attitude that the Highlife Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Manufacture can take on in seconds.

HOLIDAY SEASON Emilio Pucci delivers a distinctive design for Acqua di Parma’s festive collection

This is a collection which celebrates the joyous spirit of two historic Italian Maisons, coming together in support of the Save the Children "Rewrite the Future" project.

Following a second year of great resilience, two Italian Maisons have come together to brighten up the festive season with a new collection that celebrates life, love and joy. United by the common values of traditional workmanship, a joyous spirit and a passion for beauty, Acqua di Parma and Emilio Pucci have combined to support the Rewrite the Future campaign from Save the Children, the international organisation which has been working for 100 years to save children at risk and guarantee their future, against a background of challenging social conditions and a lack of educational facilities. A loving gesture to support the current generations and those of the future, to which Acqua di Parma looks with confidence, in the knowledge that culture and education are essential to safeguard our future.

Emilio Pucci is a company that specialises in combining essential design with the joy of colour. The company founder created a rich universe of prints and an unmistakeable style, for which he was awarded the accolade of The Prince of Prints. This new collaboration between the two companies expresses a perfect harmony between this joyful style of Emilio Pucci and the radiant beauty of Acqua di Parma. The Vortici print, inspired by an Emilio Pucci archive theme, is presented in Parma yellow for this year’s Holiday Season, and reinterpreted in a harmonious movement of light and colour. It’s a swirl of positivity and the joy of living which takes you on a journey into the universes of Italian beauty, from sophisticated urban architecture to splendid floral gardens and the Mediterranean coast, bringing a sensation of freedom and confidence in its wake.

ACQUA DI PARMA “In a historic period of great difficulty, young people find themselves in an unprecedented situation in terms of schooling and education. By sustaining the Rewrite the Future campaign by Save the Children, we aim to offer constructive support for the most deprived children and young people by working to guarantee their right to quality education. Careful attention to training is part of the company’s DNA. We’ve always dedicated the greatest of care to the transfer of traditional craft know-how to future generations. We’re therefore aware of the fundamental role played by education in protecting everything we love about our country. Holiday Season, which we’ve proudly created along with Emilio Pucci, is a symbol of our commitment, a gift to the new and future generations and a message of positivity and confidence”, says Laura Burdese, Chairman and CEO of Acqua di Parma. Emilio Pucci x Acqua di Parma expresses the Italian heart of the two companies, which share the joy of giving and bring new meaning to the holiday period, by reinterpreting the concept of gifts as a “donation of solidarity”. “We have been enthusiastic about the Holiday Season project from the outset. It’s a hugely emotional experience to embark on this journey of solidarity with Acqua di Parma to promote positivity and confidence all over the world by sustaining the Save the Children Rewrite the Future initiative. The Vortici print, which we’ve reinterpreted exclusively for this collaboration, perfectly

represents the joyous spirit of our company and the love for beauty which we share profoundly with Acqua di Parma”, says Maison Emilio Pucci. The new Holiday Season collection is brought to life by the campaign by Virgilio Villoresi, a young but consolidated Italian director with a delicate poetic sensitivity. Villoresi defines himself as a craftsman of dreams and, as such, he’s created a contemporary fable. The star of his stop motion video is a dynamic swirl of colour which travels from one end of Italy to the other on a dark, starry night, bringing light and joy to artistic monuments, enchanting gardens and natural landscapes on its way. On its return, the sky has also been transformed, and the whole world is wrapped up in the magic of this, the starriest and brightest night of all. Just like in the video, the Vortici print appears throughout the collection, and comes down to land and shed light on the unmistakable Acqua di Parma hatboxes and packaging, to whose shapes it envelops. The overall effect is incomparably dynamic. Recognising the same master craftsmanship and modern sensitivity with which Emilio Pucci has been able to innovate contemporary fashion, by placing his prints on the garments and adapting them to each single model, to create items which are always unique. As with all the company prints, the Emilio signature becomes an integral part of the design elevating each item, in this case with the beautifully distinct, flowing lines.

Changes to the colour codes on the labels, which are now white for Colonia, sage green for Colonia Futura and black for Colonia Essenza add further distinction to this family borne from the heart of Acqua di Parma.

This set includes the 100ml Eau de Parfum, Body Cream and 75ml Bath and Shower Gel. A gold label for a gift which celebrates the femininity of every woman, with her favourite fragrance. dramatic looking 500g version with three wicks. 180ml and 500ml formats are available for the diffuser. The special glass decorations transform the diffusers and candles into home furnishing objects, to be reused and given a second lease of life as desired. SAIL AWAY IN STYLE

What better way to escape the UK winter than soaking up the sun on a luxury yacht. The ideal travel solution to avoid any potential disruption and perfect for those looking for a unique holiday experience with the option to enjoy complete freedom. Heesen's stunning Moskito delivers 55 metres of uninterupted luxury and is availble for your winter getaway.

HEESEN MOSKITO

Both sporty and timelessly elegant, superyacht Moskito epitomises the Heesen DNA - built for hydrodynamic efficiency and fast performance, she features the newest iteration of Van Oosaanen’s Fast Displacement Hull Form, offering frugal fuel consumption, long range and a top speed of 15.5 knots. The latest in the Dutch shipyard’s successful 55m Steel Class, Moskito boasts sleek, muscular exterior lines by icon Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and bold, chic interiors by renowned British studio Bannenberg & Rowell. Extensive use of glass and floor to ceiling windows offer interiors flooded with natural light and panoramic views throughout. Designed as a wellness cocoon and haven, the crowning jewel of this ‘spa at sea’ is a unique dedicated wellness area accessible via an opulent beach club, complete with sauna, seating, shower and shade. Her generous exterior deck spaces total 250 square metres, including a spacious sun deck with pool, sunbathing area and bar. Arthur Brouwer, CEO of Heesen comments “The 55m is a very popular class and we are the only Northern European shipyard to offer such a yacht on spec. We are proud to be presenting such a fine example of Heesen’s DNA. Moskito is sporty, sleek, and timelessly elegant in design, while offering the best in performance and efficiency. She has the right balance of indoor and outdoor space - meaning ultimate interior comfort and luxury, with spacious alfresco spaces to enjoy the best of yachting lifestyle.” A blend of natural, noble tones and a tailored spatial arrangement creates a sense of gravitas. Traditionally crafted smoked Oak chevron parquet flooring, white Thassos, grey St. Laurent and ivory Travertine marble are used throughout, with

warm bronze accent that underwrite fine workmanship and furnishings. Artworks have been sources from British talents – from flowing porcelain forms by Fenella Elms, to Rose Vickers’ marquetry mosaics, and intricate paper collages by Hormazd Narielwalla. High up on the bridge deck, the secluded skylounge is ideal for periods of calm and relaxation. “Our guiding philosophy was that the owner should be as happy hosting a black-tie dinner as lounging in their shorts,” says interiors designer Bannenberg. On the main deck lies the owner’s apartment, spanning more than eighty-two square metres. Bespoke furnishings include a desk commissioned from GMS joinery in London. Oak parquet and eucalyptus veneers add continuity to the main deck colour palette

– soft, easy going and light in tone. A spiral staircase leads to four exceptional ensuite cabins on the lower deck – two doubles and two twins – each with a spacious bathroom, a wardrobe and a dressing table. Large hull windows give every cabin and every bathroom a beautiful view. Speaking of views, Moskito’s exterior guest spaces add up to some two hundred and fifty square metres. The sizeable sundeck is the focus of open-air life on the yacht, at anchor or in port – complete with a pool, bar, seating and sunbathing areas. Linked to the deck saloon by simple sliding doors, Moskito’s aft terrace provides forty-four square metres of alfresco comfort. For dining and entertaining, the table at the centre of the main deck can seat twelve, for relaxed or formal occasions. ROSETTI EMOCEAN

E M O C E A N N OT Y O U R U S U A L E X P LO R E R YA C H T

Following her successful debut at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival, Rosetti Superyachts (RSY) reveals further insights into the design and performance of their first superyacht project to hit the water. Built for an experienced couple who were closely involved in all aspects of the design and construction of the yacht, the RSY 38m EXP M/Y Emocean is not just your typical yacht. Powered by twin MAN D2868 LE 425 engines (588kW) with a round-bilge displacement hull, bulbous bulb, electric CMC stabilisers and extended skeg optimised for cruising at between 10 and 11 knots, the RSY 38m EXP M/Y Emocean is designed to spend long periods on board in complete comfort and safety in all sea conditions. With a solid construction and long range of 5,000nm at 10 knots, the RSY 38m EXP has a gross tonnage of 432 GT and boasts volumes that are typical of larger yachts. Her 700 square metres of space are divided almost equally between the interior

offer wide sea views, thanks also to the fact that the engine room ventilation shafts have been moved further forward. In addition, two large side sliding doors provide access to the cutaway bulwarks and the side decks. The space is divided into two main areas: a veranda-style seating area towards the stern and the dining area. On the starboard side, a custom-designed wine cellar with a 150 bottle capacity acts as a divider between the guest areas and the master stateroom, which is spacious and well distributed with a fixed side balcony, always on the starboard side, accessible through a sliding glass door. The owners chose this solution because it can be used without requiring help from the crew, thus ensuring greater privacy. The master stateroom itself comprises a private office, large His & Hers bathrooms and a walk-in wardrobe. “The owners of M/Y Emocean came to us because of our background in building thoroughly reliable commercial vessels this was the first thing that they put on their brief,” says Andrea Giora, RSY Sales & Marketing Director. “On the other hand,

and exterior. The exterior profile is classic in proportion but contemporary in style with tense, angular lines. At the request of owners, the windows and openings are as large as possible. The main salon has large windows and sliding doors that

they wanted to be able to interact with the builder, to know the suppliers, to speak with them and select the best contractor for each element that was to be installed on board.” The fresh contemporary interior styling is by BurdissoCapponi Yachts & Design, a local design firm based in Ravenna, and is

based on joinery of light Creta oak and dark smoked oak. A key feature is the main lobby where a bespoke sculpture by Giacinto Bosco occupies pride of place in the stairwell. “The project was born from the close collaboration and synergy with the owners who expressed their tastes and desires, functional and layout needs,” says Francesca Burdisso. “Following various meetings it emerged clearly that the staircase would become the fulcrum of the project, reflecting character and style that runs throughout the yacht.” Alternating glossy and opaque lacquers in light but warm tones are used for the furniture finishes. The owner’s bathroom features surfaces in Silk Georgette marble with both a raw and brushed finish, while the guest bathrooms are fitted with Silestone Coral Clay with a tactile suede finish. “The owners wanted a choice of materials and natural tones that transmit a muted but fresh ambience with Mediterranean accents,” continues Burdisso. “The furniture forms are characterised by clean and essential lines and the open-plan layout is divided into a succession of spaces that are emotionally diversified.” On the lower deck is a beach club and four comfortable guest cabins (two twins and two doubles), as well as the crew accommodation (three cabins), a crew mess, pantry and pro-spec galley. Between the upper and main deck there is also a dedicated laundry and storage room. For complete independence at sea, the yacht has almost 3,000 litres of fridge-freezer space in the galley

and the crew pantry and a technical room on the lower deck which hosts fuel and water tanks sufficient to guarantee long cruises. Unusually, the main lounge is located on the upper deck. The tender is stowed on the open aft deck, while a spacious partially shaded is dedicated to an al fresco lounge. The captain’s cabin is located adjacent to the wheelhouse with integrated bridge overlooking a huge sunbed on the open foredeck. The 150-sqm sundeck features a jacuzzi pool with cascade, a large bar unit, dining facilities including a large table for 12 people with chairs and side seats and a gym area. “Stylistically, this is not your typical explorer yacht,” says Giora. “But in other ways it complies with the explorer concept, including a huge range of 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots, solid design and construction, and great storage volumes. So in terms of the main characteristics of what true explorers are all about, she is definitely an explorer yacht!”

T H E E X P R E S S I O N O F I TA L I A N E XC E L L E N C E At 76 metres overall with a maximum beam of 12.5 metres, the steel and aluminium Apache project is based on a brand new technical platform with beautifully sleek exterior styling, chic interior design and never-before-seen luxury features by Alberto Mancini. Inspired by modern architecture, Apache’s clean exterior lines are based on crisp horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. Resembling the fletching or feathers of an arrow, the clean exterior lines offer dynamic good looks as well as minimised bulwarks for

uninterrupted views outboard and intimate contact with the sea. A sensational new superyachts concept, Apache’s beach club is a key feature of the new design. The folding side terraces can be deployed to offer 125 sqm of upscale resort space and a floodable swimming pool with access via a grand central staircase from the main deck. It is connected to the garage, which when emptied of tenders and toys offers even more deck space. The folding platforms are also fitted with one-way glass the same colour as the hull so as not to spoil the exterior aesthetics.

“I wanted to avoid the typical cave dark effect that today we see in many beach clubs,” says designer Alberto Mancini. “Indeed, Apache’s beach club design is not just an area for accessing the sea to be enjoyed only when anchored during the day; it is fully integrated with the main deck salon so it can be used day or night as an extension of the outdoor living space.” Back inside, the main deck salon and dining room cover a light-filled area of 118 sqm. This is the yacht at its most convivial, a hub for socialising with direct access to the large outdoor terrace or down to the beach area. There are four guest cabins on main deck that enjoy much larger windows than conventional cabins on the lower deck, as well as a semi-open foredeck lounge and gym, as well a luxurious VIP suite in the bow. The bridge deck features a spacious wheelhouse with separate radio room and a very comfortable captain’s cabin, as well as an additional lounge for more intimate socialising or as a cosy nook to escape to with a good book. On the open aft deck there is a second pool. On the very top deck there is even a cosy observation lounge or crow’s nest with panoramic views high above the water, ideal for enjoying the last rays at sunset. Apart from the beach club, the lower deck is devoted to the crew and service areas with a pro spec galley and crew mess, laundry, cold and dry stores, and hull openings for fast, efficient provisioning and servicing of the vessel. There is also a dedicated cinema room for guest use adjacent to the lobby and elevator. Apache is projected to have a displacement of 1,350 tons and a gross tonnage of 1,515GT. There are two propulsion options: twin CAT C3512E (2 x 1901 kW @ 1,800 rpm) or twin MTU V4000M73 (2 x 1920 kW @ 1,970 rpm) engines for a top speed of 16.5 knots, cruising speed of 15 knots and a range of 5,000nm.

direct access to an absolutely sensational 9.5-metre long “Flying Pool” forward. The pool has a glass bottom so not only do you feel like you’re swimming suspended in space, but dappled light can also trickle down into the semi-open lounge and gym on the deck below. Such a foredeck feature has never been attempted before on a superyacht. In the designer’s vision, the interior styling combines a discreetly sophisticated melange of Loro Piana soft fabrics and silk upholstery, warm oak parquet flooring and nubuck suede to create a luxurious but welcoming and understated ambience. 2 5 Y E A R S O F S P E C TAC U L A R SOHO SEAFOOD Randall & Aubin, the much loved Anglo-French brasserie specialising in seafood in the heart of Soho, celebrates 25 years since co-owners Jamie Poulton and Head Chef Ed Baines opened the doors in 1996. For the last quarter century the restaurant has been feeding foodies, Soho dwellers and celebrities, treating Londoners and visitors alike to their signature unpretentious yet lively atmosphere, with a side of exceptional seafood under the restaurant’s giant glittering disco ball. Guests are invited to toast the restaurant's anniversary with a bottle of Randall & Aubin’s own Champagne, with a specially designed limited edition label by renowned British artist John Yeo. Best known for his portraits of well known faces such as Cara Delevingne, Damien Hirst, Prince Philip and Erin O'Connor, Yeo has created the bespoke design, with bottles available to pop alongside a lunch or dinner, or to take away from the restaurant and carry on the party at home. A historic Soho space, Randall & Aubin originally opened as a butcher’s shop in 1911, and quickly became one of the finest purveyors of meat in London, supplying the likes of The Ritz and The Savoy. Soon it expanded its offering and was established as one of London’s premium gourmet food retailers, and when Jamie

and Ed took over the space in 1996, they were careful to preserve several of the shop’s original tiles and fixtures. To this day, guests can still see the butcher’s hooks hanging from the ceiling, marble countertops, and the original sign erected by Morin Randall and Cavenur Aubin, the original founders of Randall & Aubin. In re-imagining the space as a restaurant, Jamie and Ed came together with a shared passion for quality ingredients and sustainability, ensuring that everything on the menu showcased the finest local and seasonal produce, creating delicious yet approachably luxurious dishes. This ethos remains at the heart of the restaurant, where they hope to welcome guests for another 25 years amongst the ever changing face of their beloved Soho. Jamie says ‘Randall & Aubin has lived many lives and witnessed the ever changing faces of Soho evolve over the past 25 years. We have been lucky enough to enjoy unwavering support from our guests, colleagues, peers and neighbours, and we are certain we would not be celebrating our quarter century without them. As we mark this milestone birthday, we hope to welcome faces old and new into the restaurant, to raise a toast to 25 more years at the stoves.’

The first restaurant in London solely dedicated to Nikkei cuisine, the incredible food symbolises the integration of two cultures that share a deep appreciation for fresh fish and seasonal ingredients: Japanese sushi and sashimi, and Peruvian ceviche being central to their cuisine. Nikkei is a unique blend of these culinary traditions, a lively combination of Japanese and Peruvian ingredients and techniques that began over a century ago. Overseen by Executive Chef Jordan Sclare, Chotto Matte showcases an innovative menu ensuring the finest quality of organic and sustainable produce with no GMO ingredients. Jordan continues to reinvigorate the global menus and push the boundaries of traditional Nikkei techniques, producing delectable flavours that have guests coming back time and time again. Each dish is carefully prepared in the theatrical open kitchen to create a unique experience that is a feast for both the eyes and the palate. There are a variety of set menus, including a vegetarian menu starting at £50.00 per person, allowing you to experience the best of Chotto Matte. Highlights include Seabass Ceviche; King Oyster Mushroom Tostadas; Black Cod yuzo-miso; Wagyu Gyoza; and Spicy O-Toro Sashimi. Located on Frith Street, the restaurant's interiors have been designed by the renowned interior designer Andy Martin who works on all Chotto Matte's locations across the globe. Set over two floors, stylish features include a striking spiral staircase, a bespoke cast glass wall panel, accents of natural lavastone (an Indigenous rock in southern Peru), alongside a Japanese inspired graphic backdrop. The restaurant is particularly passionate about championing a ‘no waste’ approach to their food production by managing the cutting process of each ingredient. The chefs reutilise un-used ingredients in innovative ways and include them in key dishes; a notable example is that the lean part of the salmon flesh is used in the rolls, while the fillet parts are used for sashimi. COMITÉ CHAMPAGNE

A VERY C H A M PA G N E C H R I S T M A S With Christmas only six weeks away, Françoise Peretti, Director of Champagne Bureau UK shares her recommendations on how to pair your festive menu with Champagne. As we approach the end of the year, we enter the muchanticipated festive season and prepare for all the celebrations that come with it. With families and friends reuniting, it is the time for gathering around marvelous dishes, refined tableware, and festive tipples. With styles to complement a number of traditional dishes, below are six Champagne and food pairings to elevate your festive menu and get your guests in the spirit of celebration! Christmas Eve Aperitif - For a light yet tasty way to start your celebrations, opt for a Brut Non-Vintage Champagne. Superbly pairing with seafood canapes, caviar toasts and pigs in blankets, this will be an ultimately uplifting combination. A Brut Non-Vintage, also referred to as a “Classic Blend”, is typically

made from a blend of the three major grapes (Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Noir). This results in a balanced style offering freshness, fruitiness, and structure. Christmas Day Turkey Roast with cranberry sauce Shall your Christmas roast lean towards a turkey or white poultry in general, I would recommend a Vintage Champagne. Vintage Champagnes are aged on lees for a minimum of 3 years, although most are in fact aged in the hundreds of miles of Champagne cellars for longer, sometimes up to a decade. This allows plenty of times to develop deeper layers of complexity and new aromas, resulting in a complex nature of style which will complete the more powerful festive flavours of your Christmas roast.

COLUMN

Christmas Cheeseboard - For a cheese-filled interlude, I’d recommend a Blanc de Blancs Champagne. A bright and floral style, ideal with creamy or rich elements, this 100% Chardonnay-made style is known for its citrus fruit notes and aromas. Pairing wonderfully well with goat’s cheeses, this style will balance any potential heaviness and make your experience taste lighter and memorable. Christmas pudding, mince pies, and gingerbread - The quintessential Christmas desserts. For the most British Christmas tradition, I would suggest trying a Demi-Sec Champagne. Still incredibly fresh but slightly sweeter, this is a softer Champagne style on the palate when paired with sugary treats. Not to worry, although Demi-Sec has a little

more sugar in it, it is not “sweet” per se and will keep the unique freshness and acidity Champagne is famous for. Christmas Day Roast Beef with cauliflower gratin - For red meat lovers, I’d recommend choosing a Blanc de Noirs Champagne. A white Champagne made from 100% black grapes - Pinot Noir and/or Meunier - this is a structured style resisting the powerful meat flavours, also opening on red fruit flavours. Vegetarian Christmas - My recommendation for any vegetarian-based celebrations is a Zero Dosage Champagne, also known as ‘Extra Brut’. Beyond its delicate flavours, this low-to-no sugar style pairs exceptionally well with vegetables as it lets the natural sweetness express itself.

G H O S T G O E S DA R K Rolls-Royce expands their Black Badge offering with the introduction of the new Ghost Black Badge, building on the latest iteration of the impressive ultra-luxury limousine. Adding unique detailing and even further customisation options this car has more than a lot to offer.

ROLLS-ROYCE GHOST BLACK BADGE

Adapting and shifting alongside an evolving client base has afforded Rolls-Royce Motor Cars the opportunity to craft and create unique offerings across its model line and this close relationship with their clients has lead to the latest introduction from the British marque. Taking account of aesthetic preferences, uncompromising lifestyle requirements and changing taste patterns, Rolls-Royce have taken the already impressive latest iteration of Ghost - watch out for the full review coming soon - and delivered a vivid representation in Black Badge guise. Responding accordingly to a subversive clientele who engage with luxury products very much on their own terms; new colour

palettes have been developed, more technical surface treatments offered and even more powerful driving experiences delivered. Black Badge - the highly successful alter ego of Rolls-Royce now represents over 27% of commissions worldwide and is codified by the mathematical symbol that represents a potential infinity, which is found within each of these unique vehicle's interiors. This graphic, also known as the lemniscate, was applied to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking Rolls-Royce-powered Blue Bird K3 hydroplane and the marque’s designers nominated this hallmark for Black Badge motor cars to reflect their own unrelenting pursuit of power.

This new 'Post Opulent' expression of Black Badge delivers the purest and most technologically advanced Black Badge car yet. Conceived in response to a group of clients who requested a Rolls-Royce that was agile, discreet, highly connected and free of any superfluous design, the new Ghost is not just the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce yet, but also the most aesthetically pure. That rebellious subset of clients have sought to create a disruptive expression of Ghost by permanently cloaking it in a shade so pure that its very classification as a colour remains a subject of debate: black. Black Badge Ghost is a direct reflection of this desire, bringing the dark side of Post Opulence: minimalism in extremis. Clients are free to select any of the marque’s 44,000 ‘ready-towear’ colours or create their own entirely unique bespoke hue. However, the overwhelming majority of women and men who requested this darker expression of Ghost selected the signature Black - unsurprisingly. To create what is the automotive industry’s darkest black, 45kg of paint is atomised and applied to an electrostatically charged body in white before being oven dried. Two layers of clear coat are then applied before being handpolished by a team of four craftsman to produce the marque’s signature high-gloss piano finish. An entirely customisable process allows hallmarks such as the high-polished Spirit of Ecstasy and Pantheon Grille to be subverted: instead of simply painting these components, a specific chrome electrolyte is introduced to the traditional chrome

reserved for Black Badge Ghost, the barrel of each wheel is made up of 22 layers of carbon fibre laid on three axes, then folded back on themselves at the outer edges of the rim, forming a total of 44 layers of carbon fibre for greater strength. A 3D-forged aluminium hub is bonded to the rim using aerospace-grade titanium fasteners and finished with the marque’s hallmark Floating Hubcap, ensuring the Double R monogram remains upright at all times. To celebrate the material substance and remarkable surface effect, a lightly tinted lacquer is applied to protect the finish but still allow clients to observe the technical complexity of the wheels unique carbon fibre construction. Black Badge isn't just an aesthetic and in this instance, the capacity of the celebrated twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 engine was deemed sufficient. However, the flexibility of this unit has been exploited to generate an extra 29PS, creating a total output of 600PS. The sense of a single infinite gear has also been dramatised with the addition of a further 50Nm of torque, for a total of 900Nm. Key to its potent character is the Architecture of Luxury, Rolls-Royce’s proprietary all-aluminium spaceframe architecture that debuted with Phantom. This sub-structure not only delivers extraordinary body stiffness, but its flexibility and scalability allowed Ghost to be equipped with all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and the award-winning Planar Suspension system. For Black Badge, these peerless engineering qualities have been comprehensively reengineered, including the fitting of more voluminous air springs to alleviate body roll under more assertive cornering.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge doesn't shy away into the shadows, it is bold in its presence and performance and delivers an all-encompassing package of ultra-luxury driving - whether you're behind the wheel or in the back sipping on a freshly chilled bottle of champagne.

1957 Mercedes-Benz 219 'Ponton' Saloon £POA

M E RC P O N T O N The four door, front engine, rear-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz Ponton was introduced in 1953. The marque's first monocoque, unitary body production models, the 'Ponton' model line expanded with the introduction of the 219 in 1956. Featuring a 2.2-litre straight-six M180 engine, the 219 boasted double downdraft carburettors and a top speed of 92mph.

Ponton model cars were Mercedes' main production models until 1959 adding up to 80% of the manufacturers car production between '53 and '59 with some models continuing until 1962. Supporting this were the five body options, four different wheelbases and numerous engine choices providing an incredibly varied offering for the time. This example - a six-cylinder saloon sitting on the 275cm wheelbase - is presented in black coachwork with a striking red leather interior. The car also benefits from a Webasto factory sliding soft top which creates an open-top driving experience. The car was recently imported from Florida, with the last owner being a wealthy businessman who cosseted and garaged the car. It was fully restored in California complete with a full repaint, new leather and wood, updated soft top and carpets and a fully overhauled engine. The car comes with the original Mercedes-Benz books and manuals with all necessary duties paid and will be UK registered and ready to enjoy. This is a very high end restored dry example, and it presents and drives very well. Despite the relatively high production run of the 219, you won't see many up for sale, so this is a great opportunity to get your hands on a must see car.

LUXURY PERFORMANCE

P O W E R V S E C O N O M Y Despite Audi's continuing expansion of their electric model line, they haven't forgotten about the impressive internal combustion offering with numerous options now available throughout the marque's catalogue. What's more, they have combined the best of both worlds to deliver the all-important gateway into the electrified world: hybrid options. But what is important to you when you think of the phrase 'performance'? This word carries many connotations, from ride to speed, then endurance and yes, even economy, and Audi have been keen to cover every base possible with their offering. Take the A8 - a luxury executive saloon that borders on limousine status once you get to the top of the line variants - it is available in a whole host of different guises with everything

from entry level combustion powered options delivering no frills transportation while maintaining luxurious comfort for your passengers to the top end S8 which boasts a substantial 4.0-litre V8 producing 571 PS and staggering 800 Nm of torque. Pair this with the iconic quattro system and 8-speed tiptronic transmission and you will find yourself in control of a serious piece of engineering that, if you're not careful, will propel you from standing to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds and continue to a limited 155mph. Unfortunately, you will find that visits to the petrol station become considerably more frequent when enjoying every aspect of the S8's performance. With a combined consumption of 24.6 mpg, it's not the most efficient of options, but who ever had fun audi.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE

watching a car's fuel efficiency in the real world. If however that is something that interests you, there is another option, the Audi A8 TFSI e. Yes you guessed it, the 'e' stands for electric and in this case the electrification is paired with a - not to be scoffed at - 3.0-litre V6 petrol powered unit to create a potent powertrain that is more than worth its weight. Does it transport you at equally blistering speed as the S8, well statistically no, but when you consider it is still capable of a zero to 62mph time under 5 seconds, you would be forgiven for saying yes and with an equally limited top speed, the performance variation as far as speed is concerned is somewhat negligible. Where this option gets interesting is when you start delving in to the other aspects of performance and in this case, more specifically the fuel efficiency. Thanks to the clever hybrid technology, Audi boasts near 100mpg combined economy from their partly electrified A8 and the difference is somewhat noticable on the road, especially when you're making the most of the cars comfort and taking it for a proper drive.

Enjoying the same quattro system - with a few less options to play with - the A8 TFSI e is able to provide every level of ride required, from comfort when you're transporting elderly relatives, to dynamic when you want to show off and all at the convenient push of a button on the unmissable dual central touchscreen display console. This is one area that the hybrid can't quite compete. Dynamism comes not only from the pace of the car and its ability to turn corners - faster than it probably should - but equally in audi.co.uk

AUDI S8

its design. Every aspect of the S8 has been specifically designed to evoke a sense of dynamism even when the car is standing still. From the subtle yet prominent front intake features to the very obvious double dual exhaust system protruding from the rear, the exterior aesthetics are there for everyone to see. This theme continues inside with more athletic materials being chosen to adorn certain areas of the interior space such as carbon fibre along with distinctive design features including the striking steering wheel. Through this wheel you have access to the Audi Virtual Cockpit which provides every piece of information you could possibly need and in this case can be altered to suit you depending on your driving style and what information is important at any given time. There is no denying the S8 is a high performance vehicle, but it is one that carries itself with such poise and class that its understated appeal would be enough to fool anyone at the lights, just make sure your passengers are aware of what's about to unfold as there's no going back once that right foot is firmly placed in the accelerator. For a car of the S8's size, it is surprisingly dynamic through corners - largely thanks to that little system they like to call quattro - offering stability and responsiveness more akin to a shorter wheelbased option. Of course, if you try a little too hard, you won't be having fun anymore as every car has a limit and this isn't one that you will stop easily if pushed too far.

YOUR DRIVE If you are in the market for a luxury saloon, you have your work cut out, as there are numerous feasible options on the market, but if you're looking for something that will not only perform when you need it to, but will take you where you need to go with ease and comfort - and likely do it much cheaper than other options then a plug-in hybrid option is more than certainly the way to go. Set up your home charging point and away you go with almost 30 miles of fully electric driving available from a full charge. Alternatively use that electric power as a range extender to help your tank of fuel last - quite a bit - longer. There is no argument for which of these two options is 'better'. Although the same model designation, they are two very different cars designed for two very different purposes and delivering two very different options for potential buyers. So it's really up to you whether you want to put pedal to the metal while you still can and make the most of that open road, soaking up the miles without a care for how many times you might need to stop to fill up or take a step towards the inevitable. Dip your toes in the proverbial electrified waters (not advised in real life) and see what the future might hold for your driving experience whilst holding on to the sounds and smells a petrol internal combustion engine that we're all accustomed to affords. Whichever way you sway, there is no denying Audi's commitment to creating performance vehicles whether you're talking about power or economy - or both - and these two cars

are just one small example of the work that is going on behind the scenes with this German marque's design and engineering teams. It's just a shame that sooner rather than later there will be no if, but or maybes, we will all be confined to the electric world and all of that knowledge will begin to disappear into the history books. Now might be a good time to get yourself a slice, before it's too late.

SAVILLS

What's Next

for the London Prime Property Market? with Chloe Luxon, Head of Sales, Savills Wapping

Savills recently released its prime forecasts which indicate that in prime central London, the market is predicted to see meaningful price recovery as international buyers come back into town while in outer London, it is expected that price growth will remain underpinned by the search for more space and easy access into the heart of the capital. In Wapping, where our market is largely dominated by flats, we anticipate demand increasing from both international buyers as well as City based workers who have begun their return to the office with greater regularity. Similarly other local residential areas across the East London region such as Canary Wharf are also likely to

see further growth in their £1 million+ markets. In the past month we’ve certainly experienced an uplift in sales of properties valued at £1m+ as well as increased demand for riverside pied-a-terre’s or luxurious apartments views of the Thames, particularly with balconies or terraces which incorporate that sense of outside space. Being able to walk or get to a workplace easily is more important than ever for many people, who also want shops and restaurants close by, too. Looking to central London, over the last 18 months it has largely been domestic purchasers and London based non-doms who have been active in the market and most have been driven towards

properties which have some form of outside Guide Price space. As travel £6,900,000 restrictions continue to ease next year, we do expect to see pent-up demand from international buyers flow back into the market, alongside high-earning professionals employed in industries like banking and tech who have begun to return to their workplaces. Prices are currently on average 19.8% below their 2014 peak so we do anticipate buyers to exploit a window of opportunity leading to projected price growth of 8.0% in 2022. Meanwhile in outer prime London, the demand for large houses in family neighbourhoods like Ealing, Richmond and Wandsworth as well as Islington and Victoria Park has remained, with buyers relocating from more central locations in search of more space and better value. Certain lifestyle factors such as a sense of community, green space and good connectivity continue to bring people to these areas. Looking ahead, we expect to see increasing demand from buyers across the market looking for a more varied range of property types now that social distancing restrictions have been relaxed, the vaccination programme continues and the capital regains its buzz. Over the medium term, there remains capacity for a continuation of similar levels of price growth in the current low interest rate environment, though we expect it to be more evenly distributed between flats and houses from next year onwards. Docklands Homeowners to be Made Homeless? T

Hello

I started my property career working for an independent estate agent in the Wapping area. Since 1994 I have been based in and around East London. I started my own company in 1995 and it has grown from humble beginnings to become a well respected sales, lettings and property management agency operating in the Docklands and East London areas. Then in 2007, I opened my first branch in the Medway area. I am proud that we now have three branches in Kent. My operation is set to expand in 2020 and beyond. I am a long term member of both the NAEA and ARLA and a former Regional Representative for the latter. As the owner of a growing residential and commercial property portfolio, I understand well the trials and tribulations that property owners go through. I have well over 20 years experience of regenerative Dock’s areas and specialise in new development reporting. I am happy to advise you on all aspects of property. So, if you are looking at your first buy-to-let (even if it is with another agency), or have trouble with a tenant, feel free to contact me. I offer honest and impartial advice.

Spencer Fortag

he number of properties for sale in Docklands has fallen by 9% since this time last year (October 2020). One of the reasons is that many Docklands buyers feel overwhelmed and fearful they will be made homeless if they sell their home and can’t buy another. So, I have decided to look again at the facts and give them to you in greater detail in this article.

My research has found the number of Docklands properties for sale started to decline last autumn (2020). Nationally, the same story is being written as the average UK estate agency office now has around 16 properties on their books to buy, compared to 43 a couple of years ago. So why is this an issue? Many Docklands homeowners are wanting to move home and are worried they will put their current home on the market, it sells quickly and then be unable to find another home to buy – thus they believe they will then be making themselves homeless. The fact is that most Docklands home buyers need to sell before they can buy their next home, meaning they need to place their property on to the Docklands property market before they can buy their next home. Yet because of the low supply of properties for sale and the current high demand, there is an imbalance in the Docklands property market. This means some Docklands house sellers are nervous to put a ‘for sale’ board outside their house.

So, let me look at the Docklands (E14 to be precise) numbers in greater detail. According to the three main property portals (Rightmove, Zoopla and On-The-Market) ...

In October 2020, there were 2,386 properties for sale in Docklands (E14). Today, there are only 2,178 properties for sale, a reduction of 9%. When I break it down into bedroom numbers and type it gets even more interesting (note things like building plots and part commercial/ part residential etc., won’t be in these numbers so the stats below won’t precisely match up to those above).

... and when I looked at the type of properties ... it got even more interesting…

As you can see, there have been some interesting changes in the number of properties on the Continued on page 2

Continued from page 1 market in Docklands over the last year, depending on the type and the number of bedrooms, yet most types of housing are down considerably.

So, if Docklands homeowners do sell, will they be made homeless if they can’t find their next ‘forever home’? The answer is quite simply ... NO! Docklands properties are coming on to the market all the time, yet the buyers have got to be in the game, in it to win it so to speak. If you keep looking at properties, without even having your property on the market, let alone sold (subject to contract), then you will fall into a self-fulfilling prophecy of not being able to buy another home and will always be chasing your tail. And it’s those magic words of “subject to contract” that are your get out of jail card. The average time taken from agreeing a sale to it being legally binding (i.e. exchange of contracts) is about 19 weeks. During those 19 weeks, you are ‘sold subject to contract’, which means you have four or five months to find your new home and the likelihood of not finding your next forever home is very small. And even if you can’t find anywhere, you will never be homeless as the sale is not legally binding until you exchange contracts, so you can withdraw from the sale up to that point, without penalty. One final word of advice to all Docklands home movers.

Around 6 in 7 Docklands homebuyers could have missed their ‘forever home’ in 2020/21 Let me explain, in a study of various UK estate agents, 84.8% of homebuyers were not on the estate agent’s mailing list before they contacted the agent to view the home according to Denton House Research. Yes, 6 out of 7 buyers (84.8%) waited until the property came on to the market on one of the portals (e.g. Rightmove, Zoopla or On The Market) before asking to view it. But would it surprise you that depending on the location and type, up to one in five houses don’t actually make it on to the portals for sale. This means if the homebuyer hadn’t registered themselves on the agents mailing list, they would’ve missed out on their ‘forever home’, because they would not have known the property was for sale until it was too late. Quite simply, if you are serious about moving home in Docklands, get yourself on the mailing lists of all the agents in Docklands. One place for more information is my Docklands Property Market blog.
