Porsche Macan GTS

MacanGTS

Comfort, quality and athleticism combine under the Macan GTS' sleek profile to deliver an endlessly enjoyable driving experience. Taking the basis of the already capable Macan and elevating almost every aspect from style to performance, Porsche have once again implemented the use of the GTS badge in perfect fashion.

Design has always been evidently at the fore when it comes to the German marque and the latest Macan continues the modernised aesthetic that the brand has evolved. Powerful yet smooth and subtle lines compliment a chasmic front grille and air intake setup at the front, finished in striking black - as part of the optional SportDesign package - which flows perfectly through to the matching side skirts and distinctive standard 20inch RS Spyder Design wheels in black who reveal the visual highlight of the cars large brake calipers painted in red.

The visual cues are unapologetically Porsche from beginning to end with the rear of the Macan GTS possessing distinctly similar styling to its even sportier counterparts such as the iconic 911. Complete with two twin exhaust tailpipes also finished in black, the Macan GTS doesn't shy away from it's performance credentials.

Boasting a sufficiently large 2.9-litre V6 engine which produces 380hp and whopping 520Nm of pulling power, the Macan GTS will propel you - and the family - from zero to sixty miles-perhour in just 4.7 seconds, or 4.5 if you're running with Sport Plus. All of which is transmitted to the road sharply and smoothly thanks to the incredible 7-speed dual-clutch PDK system that Porsche has been developing for decades. A top speed of 162mph is also much more than enough for you to enjoy on the open road.

With such impressive performance figures, you want to be sure that you'll be able to both turn and stop with equal vigour and thankfully, the GTS badge isn't just about going fast and looking good - which it obviously does very well. It will comfortably slow you to a stop with the help of 360mm discs with 6-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers at the front and 330mm disc combination floating-caliper brakes at the rear. If you feel you might need a little more stopping power, you can also improve deceleration by means of the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) with tungsten carbide coating or the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) for the ultimate g-force inducing experience.

For added security, safety and performance on the road, the Macan GTS features the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system providing active all-wheel drive with the electronically regulated, map-controlled multi-plate clutch, variable torque distribution between the front and rear axle and a switchable centre differential lock delivering the maximum traction in any given situation.

Paired with the independent front and rear suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) offers continuous damper adjustment along with three individual programmes to ensure you can enjoy the perfect ride whatever style of driving you are looking to engage in.

PORSCHE MACAN GTS

As you might expect, the GTS is packed full of technology to aid in both your driving and safety including cruise control with speed limiter and lane departure warning as standard along with hill control and park assist both front and rear. Of course, there are plenty of optional extras that you can add to create the perfect machine including upgrading to adaptive 18way electric front sports seats with comfort memory package for the ideal driving position every time you get in the car and traffic jam assist with adaptive cruise control making those longer journeys a little more bearable. You can also opt for the Sport Chrono package and Air suspension with self-levelling function and ride-height adjustment including Porsche Active Suspension Management for the ultimate ride with additional mode selection.

Inside, the style continues with Porsche's eye for detail on display. Clean lines and sharp switchgear combine with sporty detail to create an inviting cabin that is both comfortable and functional. The large, clear central display offers access to all of the cars multiple facets providing connectivity and access to sat nav, entertainment and vehicle settings.

Along the lower centre console you will find a host of essential buttons giving you quick and easy access to functions such as heated seats, suspension settings and climate control along with more exciting buttons such as the 'make more noise' button delivering an enhanced growl from the dual exhausts - this will automatically engage when the sport drive settings are selected.

Porsche's sound package plus comes as standard for the GTS giving you 10 loudspeakers with 150-watt total output, an integrated amplifier and digital signal processing to enjoy you favourite tunes, but you might just want to enjoy that engine noise for a while.

This car bridges the gap between outright SUV - the Cayenne - and sports car - the 911 - perfectly thanks to the balance between functionality, style and performance. You can enjoy the power and ability of this car just as much as rely on it for the everyday, which is an essential part of modern motoring.

As you would expect from a company like Porsche, the ride is excellent with the adaptive suspension affording suitable levels of comfort when needed and sufficient stiffness under more rigorous driving. The steering also adapts to your driving thanks to the electromechanical power steering - which some may find takes away from the 'sportiness' of the car - and remains sharp and precise despite the larger size of the vehicle. This is in part thanks to the lowered chassis which aids in the cars cornering dynamics that can be lowered a further 10mm if you also opt for the air suspension.

Performance and functionality really do go hand in hand here, with plenty of passenger space to enjoy longer journeys without feeling cramped as well as the obvious benefit over something like a 911 with the substantial boot space on offer. Of course, if you are after a sports car, you would be better suited looking at one of the many other options in the Porsche line-up, but if you require that additional space while maintaining a certain level of performance without the need for an oversized monster, then you could do a lot worse than taking one of these for a drive.

Designed to almost be a jack of all trades, the Macan GTS takes the model to a different level and pushes the boundaries of what you would expect from a small SUV thanks to their incredible understanding of automotive design. Sleek in appearance and sharp in the detail, this is a very well engineered vehicle that is not short of substance.

Delivering in every aspect, whether you want speed, handling, space, comfort or just a car that looks good, you will struggle to find much if any fault and thanks to the latest engine technology developments, you can even enjoy a respectable fuel consumption of around 25mpg - obviously not if you're utilising all of those 380hp at once.

What you get with the Macan GTS is the combination of decades of engineering development with the very latest in automotive design and a quality of materials and finish that just aren't available at a lower price. You can find faster SUV's and more spacious ones, but you will have to do some searching to find one that has it all.

1978 MGB Roadster £POA

O R I G I N A L

British born, the roadster was the first of the MGB range to be produced starting production in 1962. The pure two-seater, made better use of space over the earlier MGA giving more passenger and luggage space while being almost 8cm shorter overall.

In 1967, sufficient changes were introduced for the factory to define a Mark II model. Changes included synchromesh on all four gears with revised ratios, an optional Borg-Warner 35 automatic gearbox, a new rear axle, and an alternator in place of the dynamo with a change to a negative earth system.

Work on a successor for the MGB had been undertaken as early as 1964 with the EX234 prototype, but due to the excellent sales of the MGB and Midget, BMC cancelled it in 1966. In 1968 a second proposed replacement was developed, the ADO76, but British Leyland had ceased work on that project by the end of 1970; the ADO76 would ultimately become the rubber-bumper version of the MGB in 1974 before production ceased in 1980.

This 1978 offering of one such vehicle is one of the most original examples around. Finished in striking Giallofly Yellow coachwork, this roadster comes complete with its original cloth interior and is showing just 36,000 miles believed to be correct. Despite its age and original nature, the car is in very good order, but also primed and ready for an update should you choose to invest in bringing it a little more up-to-date. However, considering its current state, general maintenance should be sufficient to keep its originality whilst still being able to enjoy it on the open road. If you're in the market for a classic British sports car, you won't find many as original as this. Perfect for soaking up the sun as you wind through the English countryside, this vibrant two-seater offers the ideal weekend car opportunity.

TUMI have also unveiled their latest offering inspired by McLaren. Enjoying a partnership since 2019, TUMI and McLaren are both brands synonymous with innovation, quality and style and this latest collection doesn't disappoint.

McLaren’s designers, engineers, and racers travel thousands of miles around the world each year in pursuit of perfection. Just as each driver relies on their car to get them across the finish line, the team depends on their luggage and travel necessities to get them to their destination. That inspiration manifests in the superior madeto-last quality of the collection.

Embodying TUMI and McLaren’s mutual ethos of performance luxury, the capsule collection is comprised of nine pieces. Each encompasses elements of McLaren’s sleek, bold supercars and race cars. All are highlighted with McLaren’s signature Papaya colourway and feature CCX6® carbon fibre accents.

Key travel pieces include the Aero International Expandable 4 Wheel Carry-On and the Quantum Duffel. The carry-on is crafted in a hybrid of materials, including Tegris®, an extremely hardwearing thermoplastic composite found in race cars. The hard shell is contrasted by a moulded-fabric front panel with a supercarinfluenced design that is echoed throughout the collaboration.

This solid build allows the collection to protect the contents it carries, incorporating further elements of McLaren’s supercar designs. The interior features a compression strap that takes its cues from the six-point racing harnesses found in its race cars and track-only models such as the limited-edition McLaren Senna GTR.

ACQUA DI PARMA POLTRONA FRAU meets

Acqua di Parma, the symbol of the purest Italian style, and Poltrona Frau, synonymous with leather culture, research and design, present the new Car Diffuser, within the Airound collection.

An elegant designer article, devised, like the Smart Home Diffuser, by the multi-prize winning duo of designer GamFratesi, planned in every detail to offer an all round sensory experience. The result is a new original expression of the affinity of values between Acqua di Parma and Poltrona Frau, that for over 100 years have shared the passion for top craftsmanship and the ability to create new classic products.

In a scenario where, thanks to technology, it is possible to telephone, listen to music, work or listen to an audio book, even while driving, there is the desire to experience inside the car a pleasant comfortable sensory atmosphere. The new Car Diffuser combines formal purity, high-performance materials and unique scented compositions. Its circular shape recalls the iconic boxes of Acqua di Parma and is enhanced by the essential light design of the two parts that form it. The leather case in highly-prized Pelle Frau®, with hot-printed logos of “Acqua di Parma” and “Poltrona Frau”, and the inside part that contains the refills of the Maison’s fragrances.

Both the mounting and the operation are simple and intuitive, easily attached to the car’s ventilation grille by means of a convenient magnetic support and activated by the car’s ventilation system. The various perfumes encapsulated in special polymerbased alcohol-free and solvent-free “pearls”, contained in turn in the refills can be replaced at any time, by choosing the favourite perfume for each trip and journey.

Nine compositions of the Maison are available; Luce di Colonia, Buongiorno, La Casa sul Lago, Oh, l’Amore, Aperitivo in Terrazza and Profumi dell’Orto, evocative of the most typical Italian moments. Arancia di Capri, Fico d’Amalfi, Mirto di Panarea, to find the breath of the magnificent landscapes of the Italian also when travelling. Original perfume suggestions also for the Milan fragrance, with the Poltrona Frau signature.

Materials and colours extend and complete the sensory nature of the Car Diffuser. The covering in Pelle Frau®, thanks to special workmanship and selected covers, has all the characteristics of safety and durability required by the car industry and keeps its exceptional softness and beauty intact. In the choice of colours of yellow, dark grey and brown, the leather case goes together in harmony with the inside in grey, to satisfy all styles.

As the hammer went down on our final sale of 2020 it sealed a year and a performance that surprised us all.

With the onset of the first lockdown, the prospect of raising significantly more than the previous year seemed almost unthinkable. But as the months ticked by, we began to feel it could actually be within reach. Not only did we hold our biggest December sale since 2015, we also raised 30 per cent more than our concluding auction of 2019.

That momentum is continuing. For the first time in a while, there’s a genuine demand across all asset classes as well as a cross section of active buyers. The key takeaway is that all are looking to transact on good quality property, be that in terms of location, build type, the investment opportunity or potential yield.

Back in 2016 we saw the impact that the 3 per cent surcharge for additional homes had in the auction room; that February we had a bumper sale with nearly 200 lots sold and around £70 million raised. It was clear that the stamp duty holiday would have a similar effect; a buyer and seller survey undertaken by our residential research team in December reported that 25 per cent of respondents were seeking to beat the deadline, a sentiment echoed by many of our clients too.

A remote method of sale offers flexibility meaning we had the opportunity to meet this demand by holding two spring sales. The fact that we registered more bidders in February than ever before, coupled with around 200 lots being sold for around £80 million across both auctions highlights just how much of a driver the deadline was for buyers.

Given that the stamp duty holiday has been extended, we’ve adjusted upcoming auction dates to accommodate several additional sales and already the signs are encouraging. So what are the major areas of interest? Residential

Recent Savills research has identified a marked shortage of detached houses for sale across east and southern England, so it’s no coincidence that they generate significant interest when they come up at auction.

For example, in March we sold a five bedroom farmhouse with attached cottage in Devon for £1.7 million - a great illustration of the lifestyle property currently sought by owner occupiers.

Auction Sales Soar

with Jeremy Lamb, Director of Savills Auctions

Developers and investors are also attracted by what they consider to be a reliable asset. When it comes to flats, size, location, condition and outside space are all aspects that have strong sales appeal. Development

Development sites represent an asset class which has really picked up pace due to the rarity of finding a suitable and well-located offering. Several sites in London and other key regional cities such as Cardiff have sold well this year and, with a great many self-builders and locally based builders out there, we’d expect demand to continue. Mixed Use

Towards the latter part of 2020 and through into this year, we’ve had some stand-out mixed-use assets and alternative-use class properties which have commanded strong results.

We saw that in March when a Notting Hill mixed-use commercial and residential opportunity went for 25 per cent more than its £950,000 guide, while towards the end of last year a 50-room Birmingham care home with residential potential had a hammer price of £1.445 million. Ultimately where there are multiple angles to maximise rental income or develop further, these opportunities are being well received by the market.

It’s often said our trading floor - the residential auction - is regarded as the front line of housing market activity so eyes will be on our upcoming sale on 2 June.
