A good way to break up your holiday is to do a bit of sightseeing and the historical and cultural places in Antalya is the perfect destination. Not to be missed beneath the cliffs on the west side of Antalya and extending towards the Taurus mountains in the west, Konyaalti Variant is the spectacular viewpoint of the famous Konyaalti Beach where you can also admire various other beaches including sandy and shingle ones.
About an hour’s drive from NG Phaselis Bay, Antalya is a city full of ancient history with its yacht filled old harbour and remnants of its time as a major Roman port; one of these being Hadrian’s Gate which was built to honour the emperor during his visit in 130 A.D and is the only remaining entrance gate in the City walls that surround the old town and historical harbour. A visit to the second century Hirdirlik Tower allows you to enjoy spectacular harbour views. It is Turkey’s biggest international sea resort and is famous for the Lycian way which is Turkey’s longest trekking trail covering the entire coastline and includes ancient and historical sites dating from the Lycian empire. Most of Antalya’s buildings can be found along the narrow, winding streets of the Old Quarter in Kaleiçi. Meaning ‘Inside the Kale’ or ‘Inner Kale’ Kaleiçi is the historic city centre of Antalya and it has many structures dating from the Roman, Byzantine, Sejuk, Ottoman and modern Turkish republican eras. Until modern times, almost the entire city was confined within its walls

Another popular attraction is the Düden Waterfalls which sit at the end of the Düden river and winds its way through the Taurus mountains before falling off the end of a cliff into a valley next to the Mediterranean. The fall consists of two cascades and the upper fall is nearly fifteen meters tall and twenty meters wide while the lower Düden waterfall is the highest at thirty metres. Ancient graves dating back to the third century BC were built near here.
Also worth a visit is Demre, a province on Turkey’s Mediterranean coastline. Known as Myra in Lycian times and in the province of Antalya, Myra has some of the most impressive and well-preserved ruins in all of Turkey. The site is located 2 kilometres outside Demre city centre.
The home of Saint Nicholas of Myra, the original Santa Clause, the Ancient City of Myra was once the capital city of the Lycian people and became a very important place of pilgrimage and is now one of Turkey’s most visited attractions. The church of St.Nicholas lies just outside the main square in Demre and is now the St. Nicholas Museum. Myra lies 1.5 kilometres inland from the modern farming town of Demre. The city sits at the base of a sheer cliff face where ornate tombs have been built into the rock and high above, on the clifftop is a ruined Byzantine castle. The impressive site boasts thick defensive walls as well as a largely restored amphitheatre and the Lion's tomb, or Painted tomb, with 11 life-sized figures depicted on the inside walls. Large rocks with extensive carvings of animals and grotesque faces lay scattered about the site.
Many of the tombs have log cabin features carved into the rock, representing the architecture of the period they were created. Several also have inscriptions in the Lycian language.
There is also a well-preserved Greco-Roman theatre, which like many other Roman theatres, was later turned into an arena for gladiator and animal shows. Like the rock tombs, inscriptions are still visible inside the theatre. There are also cavernous tunnels, access ways, intact seating and a partly collapsed stage.
A perfect way to round off the tour is to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then take a boat tour to Kekova Island where you can sail around the bay and learn all about the sunken city of Simena. You can also take the opportunity to have a swim or do a bit of snorkelling.
If total relaxation with perhaps a desire to explore the history of this beautiful part of the world is what you are looking for, then the NG Phaselis Lifestyle Resort is for you. True to their motto, ‘See, Feel, Love’, you will no doubt want to return over and over again.

with Goats Cheese and Almonds
By Adam Smith
Adam Smith is executive chef at Michelin-starred, Restaurant Coworth Park in Ascot. Named as the Roux Scholar in 2012 and awarded Craft Guild of Chefs Restaurant Chef of the Year in 2015, he joined Coworth Park as executive chef in 2016, overseeing all its culinary outlets, and in 2021 was awarded the Michelin-star for Restaurant Coworth Park for a fourth consecutive year.
With summer finally here, we would like to share our deliciously light, new season pea soup with goats’ cheese, which is made with only a few ingredients and can be prepared within a few minutes. The peas add sweetness, whilst the addition of the goats’ cheese completes the dish by adding a creamy tang. Our vibrant green soup can be served as a starter or a main course, at lunch or at dinner.
INGREDIENTS
Serves Six People
1kg Frozen Peas 1 Bunch Mint 3 Litres Water Cooking Liquor Salt to Taste 250g Whole Almonds 30ml Almond Oil 5g Sea Salt 600g Fresh Peas 1 Bunch Fresh Mint 200ml Rapeseed Oil English Goats Curd Espelette Pepper Garden Herbs and Flowers
FOR THE PEA SOUP
Put the water into a heavy bottomed sauce pan and season to taste with the salt. Add half of the mint and infuse for 1 minute before removing from the water. Add the peas and cook for 4 minutes. Pass out the peas and reserve the water. Add the peas to a food processor and blend until smooth, adding the cooking liquor to the desired consistency. Pass the soup through a fine chinois in to a container over ice, infuse with the other half of the mint and chill as fast as possible. Once cold season to taste.
FOR THE ALMONDS
Dress the almonds with the salt and almond oil. Cook at 170˚C until golden brown (this should take around 8 minutes). Reserve for service.
TO SERVE

Add the soup to your serving bowl and add a quenelle of the goat’s curd. Season with the espelette pepper and the almonds. Dress the split peas with the mint oil and a little salt, then place around the bowl. Garnish this on top with the freshly picked mint leaves and some seasonal garden flowers. Heat the soup as quick as you can and then serve on the side to be poured at the table. Enjoy!
