Glashütte Original’s Pano line has proved a popular choice among connoisseurs of the modern art of fine German watchmaking. As a result, the Saxon manufactory has introduced new versions of its successful PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve featuring deep blue handmade dials framed by cases in red gold. The new PanoReserve and PanoMaticLunar from present contemporary, truly original designs. A satin-brushed and polished red gold case frames the signature asymmetric arrays of both models. The hour/minute and small second dials are aligned along a vertical axis on the left side, while the characteristic Panorama Date, presented in white numerals against a blue ground, is positioned just below 4 o’clock. Luminous highlights on the gold hour and minute hands ensure clear legibility under all lighting conditions. The PanoReserve’s fan-shaped Auf/Ab (up/down) power reserve indicator is placed at 2 o’clock, while the terms “Panoramadatum” (Panorama Date) and “Gangreserve” (power reserve) are presented in German, as a subtle reminder of the watchmaker’s origins. The red gold case and blue dial prove equally characteristic as the eye takes in the exquisite white-on-blue Panorama Date. The PanoMaticLunar impresses with its refined moon phase display featuring a golden moon and stars scattered across a silver sky. The various displays have been positioned on the dial according to the Golden Ratio - the law of aesthetic harmony that has inspired artists and architects for centuries. The dials of both new Pano versions are made in Glashütte Original’s in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany. Up to 40 separate steps are required to produce the distinctive details and perfect finishing of the dials. The rich blue, for example, is the product of a galvanic process that must be tightly controlled to achieve the exact shade of blue desired. The dial must be submerged in the galvanic bath for precisely the right amount of time and the voltage held at the right level. All aspects of the
galvanisation process are subject to strict standards designed to prevent even minor changes in the colour. The dial-makers in Pforzheim are also responsible for the production of the small disc for the PanoMaticLunar’s moon phase display. The disc’s two gold-coloured moons are turned out using a diamond-tipped tool, which gives them their beautifully convex form and unique brilliance, while the silver, starry sky is the product of an elaborate galvanisation process. The new timepieces are fitted with a complementary dark blue Louisiana alligator strap with buckle or a fold fastener in red gold and are available from Glashütte Original Boutiques worldwide.

50th Anniversary of Man’s First Steps on The Moon
Christopher Ward has launched the C1 Moonglow to mark 50 years since mankind’s greatest exploratory achievement. Launched on 27th June, the C1 Moonglow from Christopher Ward builds upon the traditional horological moonphase complication to create a modern timepiece that uses Callibre JJ04, an in-house modification accurate to a day every 128 years. Unlike some moonphase complications that transition once per day, JJ04 offers a more dynamic approach. Using the ETA 2836-2 as a base, the date wheel, along with its spring-loading assembly, have been stripped out and replaced by four further wheels to drive the moon disc, with two more required for the setting mechanism. The result is a smooth perpetual action that sees the moon arc gracefully across the dial, which is decorated to mimic a star-filled night sky. If kept wound, Calibre JJ04 will remain accurate to a day every 128 years. The innovative new timepiece features two eye-catching 3D moons on the dial, both of which are coated with Grade X1 GL C1 Super-LumiNova® that emits an otherworldly ‘moonglow’. Positioned opposite from one another, the two 3D moons will perpetually
rotate thanks to Calibre JJ04, which allows the wearer to read the phase of one moon on their timepiece through an aperture at 12 o’clock while the other is clouded from view beneath smoked glass. Another impressive technical feature exists around the outside of the Moonglow’s dial. In place of a conventional date window, a rotating ring has been coated with Grade X1 GL C1 Super-LumiNova®, aside from one individual non-lumed section in red which aligns with the current date on a lumed outer date ring. This new additional modification allows the wearer to read the date as well as the time during night or day. Grade X1 GL C1 Super-LumiNova® is also applied to the hands and Arabic numerals of the C1 Moonglow, ensuring that it is undoubtedly one of the brightest watches Christopher Ward has ever made, giving it an enchanting character. Matching the Moonglow’s muted dial, the Calibre JJ04 rotor has a black diamond-like carbon finish as well as being engraved with Christopher Ward’s twin flag pattern. It’s something that tends not to feature prominently on the long list of wedding preparations: flowers, catering, invitations and music, make a new will… But did you know that getting married revokes your existing one? You might be blissfully unaware that your will is invalid and consequently on your death, with any careful preparations before your marriage becoming null and void, your estate would be subject to intestacy rules. This issue was highlighted in a recent case. Mr DMM had a valid will which left his estate to his partner of 20 years and his three daughters. When he and his partner decided to get married, his daughters tried to prevent him from doing so on the grounds that he lacked mental capacity. One of his daughters had power of attorney for him in respect of his financial affairs and it was argued that he did not have sufficient understanding to enter into a valid marriage. The legal effect of getting married would be to revoke his existing will and his wife would receive much more of his estate under the intestacy rules than she would have got under the will. Claire-Marie Cornford, a partner in our will, trust and estate disputes team comments: “Under the Mental Capacity Act capacity is issue specific, so you might have capacity to do one thing but not another. In this case the expert brought in to assess Mr DMM thought that he did not have
capacity to revoke the power of attorney made in favour of his daughter, but he did have capacity to marry his long-term partner. The test for whether an individual has capacity to make a will is slightly different again and we frequently see challenges to wills because it is asserted the testator did not have sufficient mental capacity for the will to be valid. “Not many people appreciate that getting married will revoke an existing will. This point has been raised by the Law Commission in the recent consultation on wills and it has been questioned whether the law should be changed in this area. In any event, get in touch with your solicitor if you’re worried.” Toby Hales, a partner in our family law team comments: “When considering getting married it’s worth thinking about the possible benefits of a pre-nuptial agreement, in particular because it offers greater certainty in the event the marriage breaks down. But while most people are aware that divorce can have significant financial implications and celebrity and high-net-worth divorces are highly publicised in the media, the impact of marriage and divorce on inheritance is much less talked about. “Not only does marriage invalidate an existing will and confer new entitlements on each spouse, but the effect of divorce is that your former spouse is treated as having pre-deceased you - so any provisions in your will relating to your former spouse can no longer take effect, effectively rendering the will useless. “It’s essential whenever you have a major life event that you take advice. T h e Fut ur e Is El e ctr ic As much as we all might want to hold on to the roar of a V8 and marvel over the mechanical wonders of the combustion engine, it is slowly but surely slipping from everyone's grasp and it seems little can be done to stop this electric movement. But is that really such a bad thing? There is no doubt that an electric vehicle will never be able to produce the raw driving pleasure that a full throttle sports car with a fuel burning monster bursting out from within delivers, largely
due to the distinct lack of soundtrack, however, in terms of tyre to tarmac, there is already undeniable evidence that electric is the way forward. Able to produce breathtaking levels of torque thanks to the relatively simple mechanics involved in the asynchronous (AC) motors and provide immediate power, there is little to say against the theory behind electric propulsion. Despite numerous manufacturers already offering up fully electric vehicles for some time, Audi have been quietly but diligently working behind the scenes to design and create the first of an undoubtedly long line of fully electric series-production vehicles to come. And the result, well, speaks for itself. Presented in SUV guise, the Audi e-tron brings a fully electric dual motor system combined with electric all-wheel drive to deliver a dynamic driving experience. Boasting up to 300 kW of power and 664 Nm of torque - which is available almost immediately - the e-tron has some serious pulling power and despite its two and a half tonne weight, can complete a 0-62 mph sprint in just 5.7 seconds. It is electronically limited to 124 mph, mostly to help maintain range longevity, but lets be honest, you shouldn't really feel like you need to go any faster than that in this car regardless. Range is king when it comes to fully electric vehicles in the current market - thanks audi.co.uk
YOUR DRIVE to the UK's relatively negative development in electric infrastructure - and thankfully Audi's developments seem to have paid off. A respectable 255 mile range is available following a full charge which is easily achievable through an overnight 'fill-up'. Even using a standard three-pin connection - 2.3kW charging power - will give you substantial charge overnight to get you to your nearest charging point - should you not have the 400 volt three-phase outlet installed at home. The best way to charge however is using the at home connect system. Featuring a control unit with 5-inch touch display, this wall-mounted charging unit allows you to not only charge from empty to full in around eight and a half hours, but also lets you monitor individual charging statistics and progress through the myAudi portal and app. Taking the stress and hassle out of charging is one of the best ways manufacturers can help to encourage more buyers, and this system couldn't be easier. Simply open the charging point as you would a standard fuel cap - except this is a lot cooler thanks to the sleek electronic opening action - get the appropriate cable for the supply you are using from under the conveniently positioned bonnet space, plug in and go. It really couldn't be easier and goes a long way to reducing the long list of doubts many people still possess about this 'technology of the future'. Everything from the introduction of the ULEZ in the city to updates in vehicle taxation are all part of a long and very winding road to reduce vehicle emissions and long-term, reduce the number of combustion engines being bought and sold. The squeeze on fossil fuel laden drivers is becoming more and more apparant yet there seems to be relatively little in the way of Government interest to actually provide for an electric world. London is fortunate in that its position as a world leading city lends itself to providing everything a global society would expect - which includes a substantial and functional charging infrastructure in todays world. Yet, you venture away from London and you quickly begin to realise that we are still waiting for a country-wide system to be implemented to ensure electric car owners can travel long distance with ease. Plotting routes and accommodating for recharge time are still unfortunately a stark reality if you are planning any journey over 200 miles, but remember, this is just the first for Audi, launching in to a market that is growing by the day and one that is leading the way in research and development. Preparations for the world of the future have very much begun and this is the first stepping stone for Audi who have big plans for the coming years. A wave of fully-electric models are expected to launch from the stable, each bringing something a little different to the table, but as a first look at what we can expect, the e-tron certainly has plenty to be excited about. There is no mistaking that this is an Audi regardless of what's underneath thanks to the four rings and vast grille sitting proudly at the front however, there are some audi.co.uk
obvious hints that this might not be all as it seems. The otherwise relatively closed front end indicates a reduced need for air cooling other than the subtle vents in the lower corners and the distinct lack of exhaust pipes is an obvious giveaway. Elsewhere however, this is otherwise a 'normal' car just with a few futuristic elements to add to the mix like those stunning wheels and sleek rear light cluster. It's also a different story once you get inside. The unique gear selection apparatus is reminiscent of something out of Minority Report while the crafted steering wheel, despite restrained to maintaining its circular structure brings some
of that exterior design inside. The latest dual touchscreen Audi connect system is of course present offering up every aspect of the car for you to play with as well as exploring your driving efficiency on the go. This is one aspect of electric driving that is missed in other forms. Although we are all keen to reduce the fuel we use and consequent money we spend on it, there never seems to be the same level of care as when you are driving electrically. It almost feels like playing a driving game where you have to manage your output in order to complete the race, but in a good way. The whole style of driving shifts and you start to become as tranquil as the noise the car makes...almost none. Of course, that's not to say you can't have a little fun at the same time. Unless you are travelling great distances, you shouldn't ever really need to worry about running out of juice before you get home, you just need to weigh up how much you want to spend on your next electricity bill. Thanks to e-tron's smart design, Audi have managed to reduce the drag coefficient to 0.27, the best in the SUV segment, and that is all thanks to the distinctive yet slender optional digital wingmirrors. Not only perfect for reducing drag, but also able to slim the cars width by 15 cm and reduce wind noise in the process. YOUR DRIVE in the cars efficiency - thankfully considering the weight of the batteries required - meaning the aerodynamic adaptations made to this car to reduce the drag coefficient by 0.07 over a comparable vehicle would require a staggering reduction of half a metric ton in weight. The science behind this car is exxceptional, but the only thing that really matters is how it drives when you get behind the wheel. Well, the result of all that science is a surprisingly agile vehicle that remains composed through corners - a lot more so than its fossil-fueled sisters - and is capable of delivering both comfort and dynamism at the press of a digitised button. Everything about this car has been developed to produce something that sets the scene for the electric Audi range as a whole, starting with a utility vehicle that very much achieves what it sets out to. Space is in abundance thanks to the disappearance in requirement of accommodating large running gear and the ride is as smooth as could be as a result of the gradual, consist power delivery and regenerative braking - which is something you will need to get used to. Don't press too hard on that pedal because you will stop much quicker than you might think. As a first foray into this all-electric world, Audi have delivered a fantastic product that is certain to do well in its own right, but more importantly laid down solid foundations for the brand moving forward. If their regular line-up is anything to go by, we should be expecting a considerable product line to arise in the hopefully not so distant future.

PORSCHE MACAN Positioned somewhere between the iconic 911 and spacious Cayenne sits Porsche's intriguing Macan. Complete with styling that mirrors its placing in the range, this is a car that delivers a bulstered sports car aesthetic, but does it live up to the precise German marques heritage? The early, simple answer following a brief introduction is yes. A taut feel on the road - despite the cars exaggerated size - and premium quality finish to match make for an enjoyable experience whilst driving. Packing a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit, the entry level version has plenty to shout about, delivering 245 hp and 370 Nm of torque, the Macan propels from zero to sixty-two in a graceful

Thanks to the impressive 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission, gear changing is made seamless regardless of the acceleration you put it under while simultaneously helping to manage the cars economy. Shifting incredibly fast with its responsive changes when in Sport mode and moving through to higher gears quicker when in Normal, the improved system also brings a coasting ability to the table, further improving efficiency while using the adaptive cruise control system. YOUR DRIVE Building on these strong foundations, Porsche have crafted the Macan to offer the kind of driving dynamics you would expect from a car sporting the company emblem whilst providing a comfortable driving environment for the passengers it is built to accommodate. This is after all a compact SUV, so the ability to fit five average sized adults and some luggage is essential. Thankfully, Porsche are well versed in space too - the Cayenne has plenty to offer - so you can enjoy long and short journeys alike with, or without guests. You might find that you want to spend some personal time with the car to check that the Sport mode is still working as it should and find that this absolutely takes on board the 'S' from SUV. The cars sleek profile reduces its centre of gravity and that chassis provides the strength in order to provide the solid platform necessary for the kind of dynamic driving you can expect to enjoy. This slender profile is all thanks to Porsche's incredible design department who have managed to create an aesthetic that, although unashamedly Porsche, is fitting for this car. Borrowing subtle styling cues from the 911, the Macan brings a character all of its own. Its wide, open front end hints at the cars power and performance while the shallow, sweeping bonnet provides an aesthetic usually found on an outright sports car. Every aspect of the design has been done to create the appearance of a sports car despite its rather obvious stature. However, there is little to offend with the new Macan, the sleek lines continue through to the rear of the car with a distinctive light system stretching across the back. Despite this, once you get inside there are a few things that could be seen to be a little clumsy from a brand so invested in design. The cockpit style setup works well in the Panamera, however here, it is a little out of place and feels a little backward rather than
forward thinking. An abundance of buttons are present for almost every function imaginable where you would find clean space in most newly designed vehicles today. The use of digital buttons is becoming the norm, certainly in the premium markets, so it's a shame that a major update of the interior didn't find its way into this release, we can only hope it is coming next time. Regardless of the minor aesthetic issue of the interior, this is a car that provides an uncompromised package bringing performance, comfort and efficiency to the table in equal measure and one that does it with serious class. There are few vehicles within the compact SUV segment that you could genuinely say look good, but this is one of those few. Perfect as an introduction to the brand or a capable weekend escape car - thanks to its intelligent all-wheel drive system - this is an all-rounder with style.

How is the market performing in prime central London and where could be the next trending London locations? with Phillippa Dalby-Welsh, Head of West and South West PCL Cluster at Savills London In the first quarter of the year, we saw the rate of price falls slow in the prime sales market. Our research shows that average values are down around 11.9 per cent across the prime London market compared to their 2014 peak and buyers’ are sensing that prime London is beginning to look like relatively good value. When we look at some of the more expensive neighbourhoods, there’s a feeling that the market could be at or close to the bottom. As always, sensibly priced attractive stock is transacting well but over the last few months we’ve definitely felt the gap between buyer and seller expectations has narrowed and that has translated to deals being agreed. Prices are beginning to stabilise but Brexit uncertainty does continue to be a consideration for both buyers and sellers. However we have seen that London new buyer registrations are up significantly; some of those buyers are trading if they need and want to move while others are simply taking a ‘wait and see’ approach until there’s more clarity. We’d expect that once there is, the demand we’ve seen coming in will lead to an uptick in transactions.
One of the great things about working at a business like Savills is seeing our network reach expand to take in growth areas. To the west, you have places like Ealing and Acton which will be transformed with the arrival of Crossrail, both in terms of their accessibility and their local offering. The thought of being able to travel into central London in a little over ten minutes and the City in under twenty, now that is incredibly exciting and almost life-changing for parents who want to be able to get home to see their kids after work. The fact that the housing stock is rounded too with a mixture of period properties and newer stock means there is life cycle property there if people want to stay within the same area. Meanwhile over in the east, neighbourhoods like Victoria Park and Hackney are considered to offer relative value when compared to similar London locations. The attraction of these areas is that they’re close to the City, have a good local scene and period homes - all things which make these places serious contenders to people that hadn’t considered them before now. What we now find is that buyers are much more open to moving across London if they can see the positive change that the move could make to their life. Turning back to prime central London, price falls over the last five years have meant that even traditional locations like Chelsea look like relative value and that’s led to demand. Given that prices there have corrected more than the PCL average, according to our prime index, it’s no surprise that we’ve seen some re-focussing on the area.

Believe it or not, the buy-to-let sector is probably more appealing now than ever. It is true that some have been scared off by having to pay an extra three per cent on stamp duty and the generally less hospitable tax environment. However, there are fantastic deals to be had for the canny investor who thoroughly researches the market and works with a local expert. The rental market in E14 is very robust. Rising capital values have led to moderate yield compression but nothing which would lead a professional landlord to alter their strategy. In some areas, yields have strengthened as rents have outstripped price ination.

Over the last couple of years, the rental market in the UK has been levelling out. Whereas a few years ago, the best opportunities for landlords were in London other areas have started to see increasing rental yields as the number of people choosing to rent instead of buy continues to grow. In E14 the average yield across all property types is 4.5 per cent. The rental market is only going to expand further here in the long term, with predictions suggesting it will grow by a third by 2030. All signs suggest that the only way is up.
