ROGER DUBUIS

Excalibur Huracán Performante Every day is a competition day for Roger Dubuis, filled with challenges to be taken on and ambitious goals to be reached. Like Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the Maison is firmly committed to cutting-edge performance, ferocious groundbreaking technology and super-sleek aesthetics, all fuelled by a high-impact R&D vision and focused on delivering bold customer experiences. This set of common denominators put them on a fast track to a roaring encounter where sparks were bound to fly. For individuals committed to pushing their own limits and defying all known rules, Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse motorsport department and Manufacture Roger Dubuis have opted to pool their knowledge and expertise. When visionary engineers meet with incredible watchmakers, the inevitable surge of adrenaline results in models “Powered by raging mechanics”, of which the first was unleashed on September 20th 2017. One year into these high-octane joint endeavours, the Italian aesthetic flair continues to merge with Swiss precision and mechanical instruments. In 2018, inspired by Lamborghini Squadra Corse and its unique automobile aesthetic showcased in the Huracán Performante the watchmakers of the Manufacture have developed a timepiece brimming with racing design codes. One of the most striking features of the aggressive Excalibur Huracán Performante timepiece is its brand-new ‘engine’: the RD630 movement with its 12° inclined balance wheel

representing the calibre signature associated with Lamborghini. Taking strong visual cues from the shapes on which the supercar is based, this timepiece notably gives pride of place to the hexagon. A versatile geometrical figure used to construct the volume of the supercar, it appears throughout the timepiece in various guises and is notably reproduced to symbolise strut bars. The standout half hexagon appearing on the louvered air intakes of the Lamborghini Huracán Performante are repeated as miniature versions visible through the openwork dial of the Excalibur Huracán Performante timepiece. Other special decoration includes a new crown inspired by racing nuts on supercar wheels, a twin-barrel ‘energy tank’ and a multi-material ‘spoiler’, used for the decorative openworked bridges. Viewed from the back, even the complete circular weight of the automatic movement emulates the design of the wheel rims of Lamborghini’s Huracán family. Offering the same blend of performance, lightness and security as its namesake supercar, the Excalibur Huracán Performante timepiece sports distinctive “Technical Titan Grey” livery complete with signature bright yellow accents. Because there is nothing as powerful as real-life experiences, the 88 privileged owners of this stunning timepiece can also look forward to life in the fast lane with a ride as privileged spectators from the inside of the Super Trofeo.

WATCHES

Black Ceramic Watch style and substance come together seamlessly in the new DEFY Classic Black Ceramic, marking the first time the ultra-hard and inherently black material makes its way to the DEFY Classic collection. With an intriguing display of micro-mechanics and the kind of superlative performance that has become synonymous with the Zenith manufacture, the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic resonates with the style-conscious urbanite. The DEFY Classic has made its mark as Zenith’s expression of neo-futuristic watchmaking in its purest form. With the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic, its distinguishing features are brought to life from its subtly nuanced darkness and the sense of volume it conveys through balanced geometry and a unique, visionary architecture – inside and out. Forged from wear-proof black zirconium oxide ceramic, the DEFY Classic’s faceted 41mm case features a combination of polished and satin-brushed surfaces, emphasizing its geometric and resolutely contemporary case inspired by the original Zenith DEFY collection first launched in the 1970s. The angular, silhouette of the case is softened by the perfectly circular bezel that haloes above it. The centrepiece of the piece is its avant-garde open dial. Taking on a stellar form with ultramodern angles, the multi-layered

element seamlessly blends the neoteric display with the movement. In broad daylight, the faceted hands and applied markers appear as one with the blackened complex of the open dial and visible portions of the movement, with their polished rutheniumtreated surfaces gleaming through the darkness for surprisingly easy legibility. Come nightfall, they emit a subtle green glow from the Super-LumiNova® SLN C1 coating, recalling the night-lights of a city that never sleeps. Visible through the open dial as well as the sapphire case back of the DEFY Classic, the automatic Elite 670 manufacture movement beats unerringly. A staple movement in Zenith’s lineup for decades, the DEFY Classic represents the first time the Elite caliber has been open worked. Its entire anatomy has been reimagined – not just aesthetically, with its restructured and open bridges with cutting-edge finishing – but also in its performance, as the Elite caliber in the DEFY Classic features a silicon pallet-lever and escape-wheel. Perfectly integrated with the contours of the case and following the structured lines of the dial and movement, the DEFY Classic Black Ceramic is fitted with a black unistructure rubber strap, offering sporty, casual elegance and comfort in all situations an urban explorer may encounter.

FRANCK MULLER

Crazy Hours Franck Muller are set to unveil their new collection, the Vanguard Crazy Hours™ at the traditional watchmaking fair, the World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie (WPHH) in Geneva from 14th - 18th January. The Vanguard Crazy Hours™ collection faithfully reflects the House’s audacity, while bringing a unique aestheticism to the collection. The most iconoclastic complication of Franck Muller : the Crazy Hours™, is highlighted in a Vanguard™ case with sporty curves and colourful numbers applied by hand. The material is into the spotlight, with the brushed stainless-steel case and dial. An aesthetic that lives up to the eccentricity of the complication, with the iconic numbers of the Vanguard™ collection in blue, red, green or orange, standing out against the sleek dial. The luminescent hands match the color of the audacious applied numerals, while the lines of the box have been worked to give it a sporty and modern character. Combining boldness and creativity, the new collection gives the people who wear this exceptional timepiece a new way to read the time showing hour numerals in the most unconventional order. Thanks to a patented mechanism, the central hour hand literally jumps from one hour to the next, respectfully following the randomly numbers on the dial. Thereby, after every 60 minutes, the hour hand would jump to the next correct number. Meanwhile, the minute hand follows a conventional 60-minute cycle revolving around the dial. Although the hour numerals seem randomly placed, there is a sequence to the ‘crazy’ hours - each subsequent number is placed at an approximately 120-degree arc away from the preceding number. Time becomes a value that is personal, individual, and unique. The collection is designed to express the concept of time as an abstract construct - that time is ultimately what one makes of it. franckmuller.com

A. Lange & Söhne Boutique

“To break the rules, you must first master them.” Swiss Haute Horlogerie brand Audemars Piguet revealed its first preSIHH heroes at the Els Club in Dubai during the second Golf Invitational of 2018. An impressive roster of 72 watch collectors from around the world attended the tournament and enjoyed an unforgettable experience alongside some of Audemars Piguet’s Golf Ambassadors. As the Audemars Piguet Dream Team celebrated the end of the season at the Els Club, the Manufacture announced the coming year with a glimpse at its 2019 Royal Oak Offshore collection. This included a preview of three new Royal Oak Offshore Self-winding Chronographs in camouflage colours to be officially launched at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in January 2019. Since its first launch the Royal Oak Offshore has always been associated with new materials. The tradition continues this year with these new 44mm chronographs which combine ceramic bezel, push-pieces and screw-locked crown, Méga-Tapisserie dial and robust rubber straps. While the blue and green ceramic models feature a stainless-steel case, the brown ceramic model – a first for Audemars Piguet – is endowed with a pink gold case that nicely sets off the bezel. Harder than steel, ceramic withstands high temperatures, thermal shock, scratches and…the passing years! Colouring ceramic requires a complex research stage to find the right pigments, as well as a long and delicate manufacturing process.

The first A. Lange & Söhne boutique in London has opened in Mayfair. As was the case in Munich, the watch brand is working together with long-standing partner Wempe and the store boasts two floors and 128 square metres to explore. As the Bauhaus movement said: “Form follows function”. Like the handmade watches, the architectural approach of the A. Lange & Söhne boutiques also follows this principle by uniting skill, materials and technology to form a coherent whole. Authentic materials, clear lines and plenty of detail recall the history and values of the manufactory. While the design of the sales floor, with its angular interlocking spaces open up new perspectives and spatial experiences. Each space fulfils a specific function – from watch displays to expert consultation and sales pitches. Spectacular glass cabinets are fitted with high-gloss metal pilaster strips angled at 45 degrees, just like the frame parts of the watch movements, to really showcase these fascinating pieces. The range of materials extends from steel, demonstrating a technically modern construction, through to natural stone, a homage to the home of the manufactory in the Erzgebirge mountains, a region characterised by a centuries-old mining tradition. The brand colour, an elegant shade of grey, has been supplemented with additional facets, including the German silver hue typical of Lange calibres, the colour of which varies between gold and silver. Combined with a timeless aesthetic, this results in an atmosphere where people feel welcome and where the handmade timekeepers can be experienced in all their glory. alange-soehne.com

THE ORIGINAL ESTABLISHED OVER 40 YEARS

BLANCPAIN

Fifty Fathoms Turns Titanium Fifty Fathoms, the first modern diver’s watch, immediately appealed to professional divers and has since become the archetypal watch in the genre. As relevant as ever six decades on, its main original technical and aesthetic characteristics are now teamed with a titanium case.

When launched in 1953, the first Fifty Fathoms quickly stood out thanks to its practical features, entirely designed for professional diving. Among the decisive criteria that contributed to its renown were broad luminescent hour-markers and hands contrasting with a black dial and unidirectional rotating bezel, as well as a steel case with a soft iron inner cage intended to protect the movement from magnetic fields. This watchmaking legend was updated and enhanced in 2007 with a date placed between 4 and 5 o’clock, while preserving its immediately recognizable DNA. Today, Blancpain is offering a new version of this Fifty Fathoms Automatique model which combines its ebony-black color with a satin-brushed titanium case. Known for its robustness as well as its high resistance to impacts and corrosion, titanium also has a low density that makes it particularly light. This major advantage, which distinguishes it from steel, has enabled Blancpain to produce a large-diameter model, offering all the technical guarantees of a diving instrument without having to feel them weighing on the wrist. Divers will undoubtedly appreciate this advantage, especially during dives requiring already extensive sports equipment, as will urbanites wishing to wear a generously sized yet airy timepiece on a daily basis. Measuring 45 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 300 meters, the new Fifty Fathoms Automatique in titanium features a ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel, fitted with a scratchproof domed black sapphire insert. For enhanced visibility in all circumstances, its markers, dial hour-markers and hands are made of Super-LumiNovaŽ, a coating that strikes an ideal contrast with the sunburst black face of the watch. The sapphire crystal case-back provides an admirable view of the movement: the famous Blancpain 1315 caliber, notably endowed with an optimal five-day power reserve enabled by the use of three series-coupled barrels housing high-performance springs. Its silicon balance-spring protects it from the negative effects of magnetism without the need to isolate it behind a metal cage. Ensuring this movement is every bit as beautiful as it is reliable, meticulous finishing performed in the purest watchmaking tradition combines straight-graining, beveling, circular-graining and circular satin-brushing techniques to enhance the exclusivity of this new Fifty Fathoms Automatique. blancpain.com

THE FIVE DEEPS EXPEDITION

FIVE D E E P S Despite making up over 70 percent of the Earth’s surface, the world’s oceans remain one of the least explored and understood places on the planet. This could soon change thanks to the daring Five Deeps Expedition. The world’s first ever manned expedition to the deepest point in each of the five oceans set sail last month, traversing 40,000 nautical miles in 11 months to explore and document the hidden world below. We caught up with EYOS Expeditions before the adventure began for an in depth look at what’s to come and where it came from.

Taking the team from the only sub-zero Hadal Zone on Earth to the deepest place on the planet, this expedition is unlike anything undertaken before it. Making such a journey possible has taken years of planning and many like-minded people and companies working together. Triton Submarines were tasked with designing and building the ultimate submersible for the task at hand and have not disappointed. Deep Submergence Vehicle (DSV) Limiting Factor is unlike the two other submersibles to ever reach Full Ocean Depth. Commercially certified by the international maritime authority DNV-GL for extensive, repeated dives to that depth, this is the

only human-occupied vessel that can visit any place in our oceans, at any depth, and from virtually any properly equipped ship. Fortunately, the team have an equally capable ship that Limiting Factor can call home for the duration of the expedition. Led by Rob McCallum, EYOS Expeditions’ founding partner and expedition leader, the DSSV Pressure Drop research vessel is well equipped for its venture across the globe. The newly refitted scientific research vessel boasts a 12+ ton A-Frame used to launch and recover Limiting Factor complete with both a wet and dry-lab offering dedicated space for science activities and accommodation for up to 47 personnel. fivedeeps.com

EXPLORATION logistics involved in getting people safely to and from the vessel… in short, everything. It is a constant process. Everything evolves as a result of changes in weather, maintenance requirements, operational challenges, social temperature… etc.

Can you tell us about the role of EYOS Expeditions in the Five Deeps Expedition? We serve as the primary mission planners; providing the overall leadership of the expedition as well as coordination between the various portfolios, including ship operations, submersible team, the scientists, hotel department and the shore side support. We also provide technical specialists as might be required; for example, when we are operating in the Polar Regions we provide an ice pilot and a remote medicine physician. Mission Planner sounds like a catch-all term. What does this involve? Loosely translated, it means ‘everything’! It covers all of the planning that goes into a complex expedition such as this one, which is actually 10 missions or expeditions stitched together to form a round-the-world voyage over the course of a year. We design and develop the overall itinerary, the specific planning required for each expedition, source permits and permissions, organize the specialist equipment, handle all of the

What are some of the challenges involved in planning a complex mission such as this? The biggest challenge is that it’s a series of ‘world first’ achievements; this means there is no template to follow. The other challenges relate to simply bringing together several groups of people who have not worked together, onto a vessel that has been refitted into a new format, operating a prototype vehicle and setting off to do something that has never been done before. Some of the challenges are quite obvious, like making sure we are always undertaking a dive in the very best weather window. This was the challenge that set the time line for our Arctic and Antarctic dives, both of which need to be done in high summer. Other challenges are less obvious such as how to get provisions and team members into some very remote locations. What made EYOS the obvious choice as coordinators of a unique expedition like this? Our collective teams have had the privilege of delivering over 1,200 safe and successful expeditions and over that time we have become quite well known to the private yachting and commercial expedition fleets. These expeditions have involved all manner of missions off all types of vessels on every ocean and at each remote corner of our world. We understand the complexities of an expedition and the need for a planning process that is so thorough that it allows the expedition leader to have an inherent understanding of all of the options available to them. We say that anyone can work ‘Plan A’ but it is at ‘Plan B’ that we go to work and at ‘Plan C’ where things

eyos-expeditions.com

THE FIVE DEEPS EXPEDITION

get interesting. We operate in such dynamic environments, at the mercy of weather, ice, poor infrastructure…etc. that you need to be able to think on your feet, but the reality is that we have preplanned for most eventualities. We are especially fortunate to have had long ties with the deep sea. Don Walsh, the pilot of the Trieste which conquered the Mariana trench in 1960, is on our Advisory Board. Our co-Founder Rob McCallum was previously General Manager of Deep Ocean Expeditions and provided the support to James Cameron’s ‘Deep Challenge’ dive to the Mariana Trench in 2011. Both our co-founders were part of the build team of MV Alucia, which until now was perhaps the best deep ocean support vessel in the world. Oceanic dive operations are in our core DNA, which is why we are a natural fit with the team at Triton submersibles.

What does a typical day look like on an oceanic mission? Usually the Expedition Leader is up at 4am, conducting a visit to the bridge to see what’s happened overnight, followed by a solid half hour looking over the weather data. We are a little obsessive about this and always compare three or four different sources of analysis. Then it’s time for a coffee on the bridge or outside to take in the fresh air with the Captain and the Sub Team leader to assess what is really happening against the forecast. We then have a planning meeting with the team leaders. After that we go and enjoy breakfast; then hold an ‘all hands’ meeting to go over the whole dive plan play-by-play so that everyone can visualize the whole operation. Then we go out and do the dive. The launch is always a tense time with everyone absolutely focused. However, once the sub leaves the surface we can relax a little and settle into the routine of communication, navigation and monitoring. There is another flurry of activity during the surfacing and recovery and no one really relaxes until the sub is onboard and strapped back down. We then prepare the submersible for the next day as well as check and stow all the gear before dinner. Afterwards, there is normally a relaxing drink and chance to go over the day’s events.

EXPLORATION Is this the craziest thing EYOS has ever done? We love clients that come through the door with a new idea; we don’t think they’re crazy at all. We’ve taken clients to the North and South Poles, to the RMS Titanic at 36,000ft/10,900m under the oceans and went to every continent as well as to some of the most remote parts of our planet. We have helped set a number of world records and a number of world firsts and we have a list of many more to come - all of them inspired by people who are guilty of thinking outside the box. The challenges can be huge. This one involved the development of a great deal of new technology. However, they are fun and in some way, this is what empowers and enthralls us the most. Where do you go from here? The Five Deeps Expedition centers around an amazing bit of new technology: a submersible that can quite literally be launched off any (capable) vessel, go into any ocean, dive to any depth and do so an indefinite number of times. This is a vehicle that opens up a whole new frontier to humankind and will become a platform from which to explore any and all parts of our oceans. We are excited about the DSV Limiting Factor, not just because of what we will do with her during the Five Deeps Expedition, but also because she is the prototype of the exciting tools to come. The discoveries that will be made are most likely still beyond our imagination.

We have a very open style of communication. Everybody feeds into our learning process and there is a communal ownership of always wanting to learn, adapt and improve.

You can follow this incredible journey and learn more through the website and on social media with regular updates throughout the expedition and enjoy some undoubtedly exciting news as the story unfolds.

BAILIFFSCOURT HOTEL & SPA

Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa

Just a few minutes away from what is known as ‘The Climping Gap’ and acclaimed as one of the three most luxurious and privately-owned Historic Sussex Hotels, Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa is a secret haven of peace and tranquillity relatively near to the city but with the illusion of being a million miles away.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of West Sussex and within easy reach from London, this truly magical, magnificent country retreat was originally built in 1927 as a private hideaway for the 1st Baron Moyne, Walter Guinness, a member of the famous brewing dynasty and his wife, Lady Moyne. Described as a beautiful contradiction, it was Lady Moyne’s obsession with all things medieval which inspired the stunning building you see today. Set in thirty acres of private parkland, your first impression is that it must be centuries old because of its appearance, but Bailiffscourt is a building which has been built by collecting, restoring and piecing together many original stone, fireplaces, doors, windows, beams and bricks from many of England’s ancient and crumbling homes dating as far back as the 13th century. The Climping Gap is seven hundred and fifty acres of the biggest open area of unspoilt coast between Bognor Regis and Brighton and this is thanks to Lord Moyne who bought the land to stop a huge housing development. Bailiffscourt overlooks Climping Beach and its sand dunes which run for much of the length of Climping Gap and is a very special place to take a stroll and marvel at the natural beauty. TRAVEL period furniture was acquired wherever possible. All rooms have been individually decorated using beautiful fabrics and filled with antiques or art. Today, there is little obvious change from the original interiors and each room has its own unique style such as wooden four poster beds, beamed ceilings, cosy open fires and luxurious roll top baths. There are lots of interesting nooks and crannies and intimate lounges to explore and no two rooms are the same. Narrow passageways wind from room to room showing off intricately carved stonework, beautiful tapestries and leaded, mullioned windows. There is even a separate card and games room for guests to enjoy and a resident peacock roaming the grounds. Here you can enjoy the heated indoor pool as well as the gym, sauna and steam room. Expansive floor to ceiling windows brings the outdoors in and there is even a heated outdoor infinity pool which literally allows you to bask in

REVIEW

Buns&Buns

Located in the heart of Covent Garden’s Market, Buns & Buns has brought bread and buns back to the centre of the table. Founded by Alexandre Zibi, the vibrant marketplace eatery aims to bring the world’s best breads, from fluffy Taiwanese bao to crunchy Roman-style pizza bread, together on to one huge menu. Having first debuted in Miami, the new London location allows diners to break bread together in the best kind of way. The diverse menu is divided up into six sections – Small Plates, Salads, Clay Oven Pizza, Seafood, Rotisserie & Grill and Extras. Start with a selection of small plates, highlights include the beer battered sweet corn fritters with aioli and the Truffle and Wild mushrooms bun. It has to be said, that all of the buns in this section are equally tempting so why not push the boat out and also indulge in the Chilli Thai Prawn Bun, and sticky Pork Belly Bun. Lighter bites, and perfect for lunchtimes, come in the form of colourful salads like the Asian Chicken salad with Napa cabbage and short crispy noodles, and the Truffle Burrata and heritage tomato salad served with olive bread. Other menu highlights include the light-as-air Carbonara clay oven pizza, with pancetta,

pecorino cheese cream, baked egg and chives; and the succulent Organic rotisserie chicken, marinated with yoghurt and lime, and comes complete with chicken gravy, roasted carrots, broccolini and sourdough bread. Pescatarians will enjoy the juicy Lobster brioche roll served with fries and the sourdough bread, Clams and mussels. To finish, bread-based desserts are all the rage here, with the likes of bread and chocolate pudding alongside freshly spun soft serve blended with a choice of nostalgic childhood treats and seasonal doughnuts. Located under the North Hall’s iron and glass roof, Buns & Buns features an open-plan kitchen with low marble counter dining, so diners can watch the chefs in action. The warm and welcoming space is decorated in deep earthy tones with copper accents, accentuated by clever lighting and abundant greenery. A curved open-plan bar at the back of the restaurant boasts a wide array of innovative cocktails using craft spirits and fresh seasonal juices.

O8 Design has been at the forefront of Audi’s surge in popularity over recent years, presenting countless unique cars and features that deliver something the rest just can’t compete with. Now despite being slightly later to the party than the competition - the marque brings their distinctive coupé style to the SUV market. The striking Q8 is immediately recognisable as an Audi thanks to a whole host of features taken from the brand’s incredible back catalogue that have been adapted and improved on to provide a modern, sleek and stylish design. A seamless rear light stretches across the width of the car beneath the rear mid spoiler harking back to the original Quattro, whilst the lowered roof line brings the traditional SUV in line with the German marques renowned coupés.

Lines are key to this cars design success. From the exaggerated wheel arches - once again giving a nod to the power of Quattro - that rise and extend along the length of the body and perfectly blend into the rear design to the stylish rear light clusters with their distinctive LED technology. The theme continues down the rear of the Q8 with strong lines featuring from the roof spoiler, through the mid spoiler and on to the discreet dual exhaust subtly hidden within the matching coloured rear diffuser. Style has become an essential factor in Audi’s success, but in todays market, substance is as equally necessary. This is undoubtedly a stylish car, but does it have the substance to back up its bold visual claims? Bringing the brand’s iconic quattro drive to the table certainly helps. audi.co.uk

AUDI Q8

YOUR DRIVE

Currently available in 3.0-litre TDI guise with two trim options (S Line and high-end Vorsprung), the Q8 already boasts some impressive performance figures - 0-62 mph in a swift 6.3 seconds and top speed of 144 mph thanks to its 286PS and impressive 600Nm of torque. This engine also brings improved efficiency to the table thanks to a new mild hybrid technology (MHEV) which allows the Q8 to coast between 34 and 99 mph with the engine switched off using the integrated lithium ion battery and a belt alternator starter (BAS) to quickly and indistinguishably restart the engine. Supported by an eight-speed tiptronic transmission with super smooth gear changes and of course, the iconic quattro drive system, complete with purely mechanical differential which provides power to the front and rear axles according to traction, this car has more than sufficient power and control. Enhancing the ride further is the adaptive air suspension as standard which can be adjusted through the Audi Drive Select system’s four modes bringing high ride comfort and dynamic handling together in one easy to change setup. Stepping in as the flagship SUV for Audi, the pressure on the Q8 to perform was always going to push the brand to build a showstopper and the design and technology in this car certainly do that, but there is no denying that the true star of this show is the interior space. Form and function have been beautifully combined to craft a space fit for the most

discerning of driver. Sleek lines continue in from the exterior and modern technology takes over from the traditional switchgear most are accustomed to. Dual touchscreen displays take centre stage providing easy access to everything from the radio to the cars drive settings and beyond. The main (top) screen sits within the clean, black dash which runs across the width of the cabin and instantly disappears when not required. The second screen has a much more functional purpose - that’s not to say it’s any less discreet - providing easy and intuitive climate control as well as one of the simplest ways of inputting destination information around. You can quite literally write where you want to go and the system will happily oblige. This builds on Audi’s already impressive system bringing even more options and easier controls to the table and creating an interactive interior that instantly takes the Q8 to the next level. Audi are pushing the boundaries in both design and technology and the Q8 is the first step in bringing a new age to the brand and the premium car market. Sitting atop the SUV range with further engine options to come in the early part of this year - and with any luck a touch of Audi Sport in the future - the Q8 is set to push the already impressive line-up even further and continue to build on the marque’s success. This bears well for the future and with e-tron already on the way, it is an exciting time for motoring. audi.co.uk

retro Lamborghini One of the most iconic Lamborghini’s to date, the Countach adorned the walls of many in poster form and was reserved for the select few to enjoy in the real world. Now you have the opportunity to own a fine example of your own. The Countach is a rear midengine, rear-wheel-drive, masterpiece produced from 1974 to 1990. It is one of the then-exotic designs conceptualized by Italian Design house Bertone, which pioneered and popularized the sharply angled “Italian Wedge” design language. The first showing of the Countach prototype was at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, as the Lamborghini LP500 concept car however the Countach received numerous adaptations and iterations during its 16 year production cycle. This cars name also has an interesting origin. Most previous and subsequent Lamborghini car names are associated with famous bulls and bullfighting, however the Countach broke with this tradition. The name originated from the word contacc, an exclamation of astonishment in the Piedmontese language - spoken largely by people in Piedmont, a northwestern region of Italy. This 1988 5000 QV is finished in the desirable combination of white coachwork with black leather interior and has undergone a £30,000 makeover from marque speacialist Autoficina with invoices to show all works including a full repaint and full mechanical preperation. This model variant comes

complete with the striking rear spoiler and side skirts. The Countach 5000 QV was released in 1985 with an engine evolution over previous models bored and stroked to 5.2-litres and given four valves per cylinder - or quattrovalvole in Italian hence the QV indication. The carburetors were moved from the sides to the top of the engine for better cooling, however this created a hump on the engine cover, reducing the already poor rear visibility. Some of the cars body panels were also replaced by Kevlar. Only 544 carburetted versions were produced - 66 were built with an alternative fuel injection system - so this is one car you won’t find on the market very often.
