Now the third celebration has arrived: Club by Nomos Glashütte comes in three new colourways, each limited to 175 pieces: Club Automatic Onyx, Club Automatic Navy and Club Automatic Olive. Within these timepieces, the Nomos movement DUW 5001 is at work the first self-winding caliber from the watchmaking company, introduced in 2005. The diameter measures 40 millimetres with all three watches easily legible at night. These long-lasting timepieces have been crafted with the next generation of watch owners in mind. People, in other words, who will need a good watch on the wrist for decades to come. The durable and robust models can withstand the rigours of life, are water-resistant to 20 atm, and go well with sporty endeavours outdoors as well as in water; they also look great with a suit in the office. First, there was Ludwig, which celebrated Glashütte’s heritage as the center of German watchmaking. Then came Lambda, which represented the very best of Glashütte handcraft. And now there is an entirely different watch; an automatic model with an in-house built caliber and the proprietary Nomos swing system adjusted according to chronometer standards. Available for an entry-level price which many people will find attractive. Through the unique ‘Classics’ family name, Frederique Constant has not only breathed new life into classic watchmaking but given concrete expression to its founding mission: to make luxury timepieces accessible to as many people as possible. Today, this iconic collection is reaffirming its timeless charm with a more modern, stronger, more contemporary design. Soft lines and balanced shapes, moderation and solid watchmaking mechanics, the Classics collection sums up the spirit of Frederique Constant. Embracing feminine and masculine creations, the modern and traditional, it has established itself as an all-important pillar of the Geneva-based manufacture. Two-part guilloché dials have been replaced by plain matt blue, white or black dials. Roman numerals have given way to the modernity of applied hour markers, bevelled and tinged with luminescent material. Hands that were slender and tapered are now sword shaped, showcasing stronger and bolder geometric lines. Considered one of the fundamental materials in watchmaking, steel adorns four of the 40 mm diameter cases, the fifth being rose gold-plated with blued steel hands. Each variation is powered by the automatic FC-303 calibre, offering a power reserve of 38 hours, and complemented by a nubuck-finish leather strap in brown, black, or blue, with the exception of the “full steel” model, which features a blue dial and a coordinating steel bracelet. A project long nurtured by the Maison which has always loved to preserve the oldest and most valuable artisanal processes of the Italian micro-territories. The origin of this new fragrance is deeply rooted to the bergamot fields of Calabria, where very few artisans in the world still practise the old sponging technique. A fascinating traditional process, which results in the complete manual extraction of the bergamot essence. A true art which requires time and skilful, precise, delicate gestures. The artisan cuts each fruit in two equal halves with a well-sharpened knife. Then, using a utensil in the shape of a spoon called “cavatore”, he separates the skin from the pulp. Immediately after, the bergamot rinds are manually rubbed on sea sponges

In the final phase, the artisan squeezes the sponges full of essential oil with precise movements inside a terracotta container, in order to collect the precious scented liquid. The limitedness and therefore the uniqueness of the essence depend on the human production capacity. Two artisans manage to go through between 75 to 100 kg of fruit in an hour and at least 200 kg are required to obtain one kilogram of essential oil. In one day of hard work, around 4 kg of essential oil are collected, but the result is inimitable. The sponge, malleable and soft in contact with the rind, preserves all the facets of the fruit and it is this unique sillage which distinguishes the Bergamotto di Calabria La Spugnatura. From the onset of the fragrance, you would appear to be in a field of bergamots and seemingly picking the fruit with your own hands, brushing it delicately to immerse yourself in the bright fullness of its notes. Around the heart of the bergamot, every ingredient is orchestrated such as to exalt the various intonations which it already encompasses. The mandarin and orange notes elevate its succulent and fruity accents, whilst the grapefruit highlights its sour notes. The green tones of the ferula reveal its mineral intonations and its floral traces of the geranium

variety. An excellent piece of artisanship which is distinctive for the

The long process starts with the production of the plaster mould in which the porcelain mix is poured manually such that it takes up the iconic Art Déco form. The mould is rotated several times on itself to ensure that the mix adheres to the sides and is then turned upside down to extract the extra mix. At this point, the bottle is left to dry for 30-40 minutes before being extracted from the mould in solid form. The artisan then refines the individual bottles, precisely removing the minimal imperfections in order to obtain an even surface which is smooth to the touch. Always manually, it is then immersed in a glaze bath and placed to bake in an oven for 8 hours; the bottle then takes on a deeper blue tone which is highlighted by the shiny finish. For the final touch, the artisanal application of the embellishment which is then set by baking the bottle for a second time. On the blue background, the marvellous golden bergamot fruits stand out in white and golden reflections. A harmony which is completed with the lid, as always in blue porcelain, and with the label made from waste powder originating from marble quarries.

Designed exclusively in the 100ml format, Bergamotto di Calabria La Spugnatura is made with care up to the very last detail. The pump can be separated from the bottle thanks to a screw top, obtained with a special grinding technique specially developed for Acqua di Parma. It is this screw pump which allows refills of the fragrance, exclusively available from Acqua di Parma Boutiques due to the rarity of the essence. A masterpiece of craftsmanship, the bottle is such a particular and refined object that it feels only natural to preserve it to embellish the interior of one’s own house. The iconic cylindrical box is wrapped in PSC certified paper set in a special blue tone, in perfect harmony with the blue tone of the porcelain bottle. The label is also produced with waste powder from marble quarries. There was nothing conventional about global travel in 2020 and while - according to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation - international traveller numbers fell by 56% between January and May in 2020, the latest data from Y.CO suggests that the global yachting scene showed growth. Between 2019 and 2020, the brokerage saw nearly 50% growth in yacht sales, while interest in charter jumped by 20%. Yachting enthusiasts seemed to re-evaluate their lives, assessing how they vacationed, connected with loved ones, and conducted their business. It became possible to spend more time at sea, as travellers seized the opportunities posed by ‘the new normal’ to discover the world with their families. As travel recovers in 2021, it is clear that big adventure is on the horizon. A survey conducted by travel company Amadeus found that 55% of travellers intended to travel for 14 days or more this year and the luxury yacht company is noticing a new trend emerging around their charter arm with clients wanting to realise their ‘bucket list’ booking once in a lifetime charters to epic locations with off the beaten track itineraries. Exploration and adventure are the key element of recent yacht

charter enquiries at Y.CO with the team seeing a rise in demand for expedition charter in particular suggesting an antidote to the recent restrictions experienced by many these last 12 months. Charter specialist Tamsin Priestley explains, “As the world looks to the future, travel is once again on the horizon, and the appeal of big adventure and unique experiences is higher than ever. The saloon and guest cabins also have a fresh look thanks to new upholstery, paint and varnish work, alongside audiovisual and air conditioning system modernizations. In addition, all her cabins have new mattresses, pillows and bed linens. LEG OF LAMB with Rosemary and Lavender This recipe is one of my all-time Easter favourites. The lavender adds a beautiful floral flavour to the dish and complements the honey nicely. If you can’t get your hands on fresh lavender or rosemary, then dried will work too. I use Daphne Tilley’s Elwy Valley lamb for this recipe because it is simply the best. However, high-quality lamb from your local butcher will work just as well. For best results, make sure you allow the meat to rest for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Ingredients 2kg leg of lamb, on the bone 1 small bunch of English lavender 5 sprigs of rosemary 2 cloves garlic 1 small jar of honey 30g salt

Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. Remove the lavender buds from the stalks and add to the honey. Pull the rosemary leaves from the stalks and place in a blender. Add the salt and blitz. Rub the lamb all over with the salt and place in a roasting tray. Cover with foil and place in the oven for 20 minutes. After which remove the foil and leave to roast for a further 40 minutes (for medium). Pour over the lavender and honey, return to the oven for a further 10 minutes. Remove the lamb and leave it to rest for 10-15 minutes, with some foil on top to keep it warm. Serve with the pan juices and spring vegetables.

1959 Mercedes 190 SL £POA

STUNNING SILVER SL Two-door roadsters don't come much more luxurious than this; a 1959 Mercedes 190 SL beautifully presented in silver coachwork with stunning contrast red leather interior. This right-hand drive example has been subjected to a recent restoration and engine bay detailing to the highest level along with a new leather interior, carpets and soft top with all invoices to show the works carried out. The car runs on the correct solex carburettors and drives better than any 190 SL that Chelsea Cars have had previously in their 30

plus years of trading. This two-door luxury roadster was produced from 1955 to 1963 with less than 26,000 leaving the factory. It's appeal was an attractive, more affordable option to the exclusive 300 SL and was available in both soft-top convertible and removable hard-top guise. Sharing the majority of its base styling, engineering and detail with the ultra luxurious 300 SL meant owners could still look the part without having to splash out quite so much cash, and the same could still be said today. Three Decades of Decadence with Ed Lewis, Head of London Residential Development Sales, Savills

It takes about two hours to walk the perimeter of the 625 acres of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, and the residential homes that line the route provide an interesting price timeline - one I have watched evolve over the past three decades. Where next for this jewel in London’s super prime property market? Some 30 years ago the highest value was, and probably still is, on the west side of the park, looking east over Kensington Palace. Here you’ll find Kensington Palace Gardens, the ultimate millionaires’ row with the Metropolitan Police standing watch at the entrances to this private street lined with sublime villas and mansions. From a luxury new build perspective, 3a Palace Green was the gold medal winner of the nineties. It was the scheme that set new standards and a whole new benchmark; the first time that hotel concierge was introduced to London apartments, replacing the exservicemen porters who traditionally ran residents’ lives and their security. This was courtesy of the Sultan of Brunei who happened to be refurbishing his hotel on Park Lane thus leading the city’s finest concierges to look for work. Today, pretty well all prime London residential schemes are brilliantly serviced but back then it was revolutionary. Moving into the noughties and travelling east, it was 199 Knightsbridge that caught the early eye, being the first scheme to secure £2,000 per sq ft on a regular basis. Again, the refurbishment of a landmark London hotel did the honours and this time the team from the old Carlton Tower was drafted in to offer residents five-star services. Quickly on the tails of The Knightsbridge came One Hyde Park. Love it or hate it, it is best in class and broke all price records. It’s serviced by London Mandarin Oriental with much more to boot in the form of views directly into the park, around 30,000 sq ft of amenity, a superb specification and a level of luxury living completely new to the London scene. COLUMN to Knightsbridge, but now was its opportunity to seize back the initiative. After all, the best restaurants, hotels and shops are in Mayfair, and Bond Street trumps Sloane Street. Nothing had been developed in Mayfair of any real significance since Grosvenor Square was being rebuilt in the 1930s. Now a series of new schemes was fighting back for the top spot including Twenty and One Grosvenor Square, which are currently London premier addresses with new schemes in Curzon Street and Audley Square to follow shortly. As you turn northwards, Marylebone also enjoyed a renaissance in the teens but it’s the north side of the park that looks set fair for the roaring twenties. This side, with south-facing park views, has long been forgotten, the poor relation on this particular compass.

The Lancaster's development was a success there in the noughties but became overshadowed by One Hyde Park. However, in this new decade we expect Bayswater to become the next London village, the new Marylebone and the most central London location that currently looks genuinely under-priced. Two new projects of real note to watch out for are Park Modern with direct views overlooking Kensington Gardens and then the highly anticipated Whiteleys, serviced by Six Senses London. Values on the north side may never reach the dizzy heights of south, east and west but they are coming off a much lower base and warrant a close look.

Docklands Home Buyers £19,809,880 Windfall as Stamp Duty Holiday Stretched to September… ...and new 5% deposit mortgages for Docklands first-time buyers

he Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced two initiatives to keep the Docklands property market firing on all cylinders into 2021.

Firstly, the £500,000 zero-rate Stamp Duty band has been extended to the 30th June 2021. After then it will phase down to £250,000 for an additional three months, returning to the pre-pandemic levels on the 1st October 2021. Secondly, Mr Sunak announced a scheme that will allow Docklands first-time buyers to buy their Docklands home with a 5% deposit from this April. Let me look at what each initiative means to the Docklands property market.

1. Stamp Duty Holiday extension for Docklands home buyers Coming out of the first lockdown in the early summer of 2020, there was a lot of apprehension that the British property market would flounder. Therefore, when the Stamp Duty Holiday was announced back in July 2020 to boost the property market, the deadline was set at the 31st March 2021. Little did anyone know of the snowball effect of people wanting to move because of the initial lockdown in the spring of 2020, the pent-up demand following the conclusion of the EU negotiations with the subsequent ‘Boris Bounce’ and then the Stamp Duty Holiday which made the perfect storm for what has been the busiest property market in Docklands since 2001/2.

The average stamp duty paid by a Docklands homebuyer is £15,759 The reason the Stamp Duty extension is

important is that many estate agents and solicitors have been warning for the last couple of months that home buyers would pull out of property deals or renegotiate if they could not complete their sale in time before the Stamp Duty Holiday ended. So, by phasing down the Stamp Duty Holiday, this will allow some breathing space for burdened solicitors and mortgage lenders, thus decreasing the number of buyers pulling out of their property purchase because they unexpectedly have to find up to an extra £15,000 in Stamp Duty when property sales do not complete on time.

There are currently 1,257 properties that are sold STC in Docklands alone and the vast majority of those will save money on their stamp duty because of this extension So, what does the Stamp Duty extension mean for Docklands house prices? The extension has heightened confidence in the Docklands property market. The Government watchdog ‘The Office for Budget Responsibility’, has predicted that house prices in 4 years’ time will be just over 13% higher, compared to their preChristmas predicted figure of 11% growth (over the same time frame).

2. 5% deposit mortgages for Docklands first-time buyers From next month, Docklands first-time buyers will be able to buy Docklands homes worth up to £600,000

When we look at what that would mean for Docklands, I estimate…

Yet now with these new 5% deposit mortgages, many Docklands first-time buyers will be able to afford to buy their first home in Docklands. Banks will typically lend between four and a half and five times the gross annual income – this means with a modest 5% deposit; many Docklands 20 and 30 somethings will now be able to buy their first home. Just before I finish this topic, the 5% deposit mortgages will also be available to current Docklands homeowners who don’t have the equity built up in their existing home – thus helping second or third (or more) time Docklands buyers as well. How do both of these changes affect Docklands buy-to-let landlords?

The Government backed scheme will be open to Docklands first-time buyers for 21 months (until the end of 2022) and available from lenders including NatWest, Lloyds and HSBC (plus others to be announced soon). It will be available on all Docklands homes new or second hand (previous schemes applied to new homes only).

I know many of you Docklands landlords are adding to your Docklands rental portfolio because of the Stamp Duty Holiday and with the extension, you too will save some money from it. The issue of first-time buyer mortgages does mean the demand for private rented accommodation in Docklands might not be as strong in the coming decade.

5% deposit mortgages were all but withdrawn from the market at the start of the pandemic in spring 2020 with an almost default minimum deposit of 10% (even as high as 15% in the autumn just gone) putting homeownership out of reach for all but the wealthiest Docklands first-time buyers.

Don’t get me wrong, tenant demand will continue to outstrip supply of Docklands rental properties for the foreseeable future, yet the tenant/landlord balance could alter slightly in the medium term. Docklands landlords need to take a long hard look at their properties and ascertain if they are fit for purpose both now and into the 2030’s. Tenants are becoming a lot more demanding of what their rental property offers. Wood chip wallpaper, avocado green bathroom suites and kitchens fitted in the 1990’s (or before) simply won’t cut the mustard in the next decade.

I must admit, I found it a scandal that homeownership among the 25 to 34 year olds plummeted from 69% in 1981 to 36% by 2014, although with certain Government incentives and low interest rates since then, that had risen to 41% by last year, but it’s not enough With so many young families paying huge sums in rent, who could effortlessly afford to make mortgage repayments on the same property, they haven’t been able to save enough for a 10% initial mortgage deposit, let alone 15%.
