Beasts of London
New at The Museum of London, step into an immersive tour through London’s history, narrated by the animals who once lived here. Opening on 5 April, Beasts of London explores the fascinating role animals have played in shaping the capital. Be guided through time, from the Roman era through Medieval London and right up to present day, narrated by the beasts themselves. Discover how animals - from lions and elephants, to horses, rats and pigeons have shaped the city and its beastly history.
Voicing these animals are a host of household names. Brian Blessed, Pam Ferris, Nish Kumar, Stephen Mangan, Angellica Bell and Joe Pasquale will be voicing some of the animals who once roamed this city, with more names to be announced. Inspired by objects already in the museum’s collection and created in partnership with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Beasts of London will be a fully interactive digital installation using video projection mapping.
Beasts of London opens on Friday 5 April 2019. Tickets are on sale now at museumoflondon.org.uk.
Imaginary Cities Located in the British Library’s Entrance Hall Gallery, Imaginary Cities is a new exhibition by the BritishAmerican artist Michael Takeo Magruder. The free display, which opens this month, will explore the changing nature of archives and collections in the Digital Age, highlighting how the Library is not simply a repository of knowledge, but a storehouse of creative potential that is constantly sparking exciting ideas and generating new avenues for culture. Comprised of four technology-based art installations, the exhibition has been created using images and metadata of pre-20th century urban maps drawn from the Library’s 1-Million Images from Scanned Books collection on Flickr Commons. The artist has remixed and transformed these historical materials into fantastical cityscapes for the Information Age, blending leading-edge digital technologies and systems with traditional analogue materials and processes. Michael Takeo Magruder is an internationally recognised and award-winning visual artist whose projects have been showcased in over 275 exhibitions in 35 countries. The exhibition will be accompanied by the Library’s first Algorave where real-time computer coding is mixed with live music and visuals. Map prototype, London, 2016. VIRGIN MONEY LONDON MARATHON
Virgin Money London Marathon More than just a race, the London Marathon is the largest annual fundraising event in the world, with 40,000 runners creating an amazing atmosphere. Currently sponsored by Virgin Money and referred to as the Virgin Money London Marathon, the race is held every spring in London. This year sees the 39th Marathon take place on 28 April 2019. Founded by former Olympic champion and journalist Chris Brasher and Welsh athlete John Disley, the race, a distance of 42.195km (26 miles and 385 yards), is set over a largely flat course around the River Thames, beginning at three separate points around Blackheath, before heading across the water via Tower Bridge around Canary Wharf and the City before finishing in The Mall alongside St. James’s Park. Since the first marathon back in 1981, the course has undergone very few route changes. In 1982, the finishing post was moved from Constitution Hill to
Westminster Bridge due to construction works and remained there for twelve years before moving to its present location at The Mall. The event is one of the five top world marathons that make up the World Marathon Majors competition, other World Marathon Majors include Berlin, Boston, Chicago and New York City. This year, the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon announced a world-beating landmark in the history of the world’s greatest marathon as fundraising from the event reaches £1,000,000,000 - or £1billion. Hugh Brasher, Event Director of the Virgin Money London Marathon, said: “The London Marathon has set a world record for fundraising for an annual one-day event every year since 2007, with an incredible £63.7million raised from the 2018 event. That

brought the total raised since 1981 to more than £955million and on Sunday 28 April 2019, in the 39th London Marathon, we will break the £1,000,000,000 mark.” Every year, more than 75 per cent of the 40,000+ runners raise money for charity, with many runners and famous faces taking on the 26.2 mile challenge in a huge range of extraordinary costumes, from rhinos to tutus, Wombles to knights, telephone boxes to Big Bens - the variety is endless. The 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon will celebrate ‘Thanks a Billion’ with the world’s best elite athletes assembling in the capital with star-studded elite fields featuring the five top ranked marathoners from 2018 in both the men’s and women’s races. Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK have joined forces to become Charity of the Year for 2019, creating the Dementia Revolution campaign to raise money for groundbreaking dementia research, aiming to raise £3.5million towards the UK Dementia Research Institute. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) currently hold the record for the highest amount raised by a charity in a single year with £3.6million raised in 2016, as Charity of the Year. BBC Sport will relay live coverage of the start ceremony to the big screens at Blackheath to set off 40,000 runners on the famous 26.2 miles from Blackheath to The Mall. An interactive map, giving details of the best locations to watch the marathon, is available on the Virgin Money London Marathon website, along with other important spectator and runner information.
The Boat Race
Oxford v Cambridge 7 April 2019
With a history dating back to 1829, the Oxford v Cambridge boat race is one of London’s oldest sporting events. Watch as England’s two elite universities hit the water to battle it out in the rowing race between Putney Bridge and Mortlake Bridge in southwest London. The Boat Race course, known as The Championship Course is 4 miles, 374 yards or 6.8 km long. It stretches between Putney and Mortlake on the River Thames in south west London. This course was first used for The Boat Race in 1845 and has been used for every Race since; apart from 1846, 1856 and 1863 when the race was held in the opposite direction between Mortlake and Putney. The Fulham/Chiswick side of the course is known as the Middlesex side. The Putney/Barnes side of the course is known as the Surrey side. The Boat Race is rowed upstream but is timed to start on the incoming “flood” tide. The Men’s Boat Race is an hour and a half before high tide, with The Women’s Boat Race a further hour before so that the crews are rowing with the fastest possible current. Thousands of fans line the banks of the Thames each year to watch from one of the many pubs that line the river route. Big screens will be placed at Putney Bridge on both sides of the water and at Fan Park in Bishop’s Park, you’ll a whole host of activities for all the family. Open from 12noon there will be a big screen to watch the BBC coverage live, bars and street food traders and official Boat Race merchandise on sale. S T R O M Nethuns II Colorum The Etruscan god of the sea, Nethuns symbolises the perpetual cycle of water flowing from sources to streams, rivers to oceans, before evaporating into the sky to be reborn as rain. Water resistant to 200 metres, thanks to a unique construction that includes a sculpted outer case in either 925 silver or a special bronze alloy made of copper and tin, the Nethuns Colorum II features a colourful dial, made in a choice of red, blue, turquoise and orange - known for their readability under water. Each dial colour has a rubber strap to match and a sturdy screw-locked crown at the 9 o’clock position operates an internal bezel that times dives without being susceptible to inadvertent adjustments. stromwatch.ch
CARL F. BUCHERER Patravi Scubatec Black Manta Special Edition
The remarkable 500-metre water resistance of this watch means you can swim with the manta rays that inspired it. And in order to ensure there will be plenty of the gentle sea creatures to swim with, part of the proceeds from its sale will be donated to the Manta Trust charity. The trust leads global research projects and awareness campaigns to help preserve this endangered species. Carl F. Bucherer’s contribution is specifically earmarked for research on the manta ray’s movement patterns. The ultra-light titanium case is coated with black DLC, and includes a helium release valve. Two silhouettes of manta rays adorn the centre of the black dial, framed by indexes covered in Super-LumiNova, framed by a unidirectional bezel made of tough titanium and ceramic. The automatic movement, calibre 1950.1 is COSC certified.

ZENITH Defy Inventor Zenith showcased their Defy collection at Baselworld. Providing a platform for the brand’s renewed emphasis on advanced technology and materials, a highlight is its single-piece oscillator that beats at an extremely high frequency of 18Hz or 129,600 vph, compared to the usual 4 Hz or 28,800 vph. This year, the watch with the super-oscillator is no longer a limited edition concept and will be produced in a run of several hundred pieces. The revolutionary single-piece oscillator replaces the traditional 30-piece standard regulating organ, and is made of silicon. The case is made of lightweight titanium and the textured bezel is made of Aeronith, an aluminium-polymer composite that is threetimes lighter than titanium. The dial is openworked to resemble a stylised propeller, with blades evoking the Zenith star. zenith-watches.com

Patek Philippe Ref. 5172G Chronograph
Patek Philippe’s manual-wound CH 29-535 PS chronograph calibre, originally introduced in a ladies’ watch in 2009, has been used in the men’s 5170 series since 2010, and the new 5172G-001 is the fifth iteration. With six patented innovations that optimize the chronograph function, including refined tooth profiles, blocking lever and hammers, and an optimized split seconds wheel, the result is ultimate precision, improved amplitude and a greater element of self-adjustment. The slick white gold case of the 5172-001 has vintage-style three-tier lugs and a sapphire box glass crystal, as well as guilloched chronograph pushers. The sporty blue dial with large baton-style luminescent hands has a matching navy calfskin strap with top-stitching.
C H O P A R D L.U.C Quattro
Embracing the basics of traditional fine watchmaking with the classic, Chopard’s L.U.C Quattro features a striking satin-brushed dial in an extraordinary greyish-green shade, evoking private gentlemen’s clubs and a formal air of elegance, yet with eccentric details. Other highlights include Arabic numerals at 3 and 9 o’clock and the Super-LumiNova covered Dauphine fusée-type hands. The movement, caliber L.U.C 98.01-L, has two pairs of stacked barrels for an incredible 216-hour (nine-day) power reserve. Despite this Quattro mainspring power, the movement is still ultra-thin, and the case is only 8.84 mm thick. Limited to just 50-pieces in 18k white gold, with a 43 mm case, each piece is finished to Poinçon de Genève standards. chopard.com

TAG HEUER Autavia
Inspired by the original Autavia wristwatches and dashboard timers of the 1960s, that was used in racing cars and aircraft, the new Autavia collection brings together functional, versatile style and cuttingedge technology. Each Autavia watch is equipped with TAG Heuer’s proprietary carbon-composite hairspring, “Isograph”. The name Autavia comes from the combination of automobile and aviation and every new TAG Heuer Autavia has a propeller and tire etched into the caseback in honour of this. The bevelled lugs and the name echo those of the original, but the watch contains a state-of-the-art movement, with an isograph carbon-composite hairspring, and a tough, scratchresistant ceramic bezel. The brown leather strap is interchangeable, with a stainless steel bracelet option available allowing those to choose a piece best suited to their own personal style. tagheuer.com
H U B L O T C l a s s ic Fus io n Ferra ri GT
ArtyA
Paying homage to the world of GT racing, Hublot’s new warhorse, the Classic Fusion Ferrari GT, was imagined and designed in partnership with Flavio Manzoni, Head of Design at Ferrari. For the first time, Hublot and Ferrari decided to combine their passion for aesthetic creativity and mechanical innovation to create a Classic Fusion timepiece, which features a watchmaking chassis that is both classic and contemporary, and perfectly in keeping with the stylistic codes of ‘Gran Turismo’ racing. Elegant and high-tech, the watch is dressed in Carbon 3D fibre, a threedimensional woven composite with polymer matrix that is new to the world of fine watchmaking. The highly resistant Carbon 3D fibre provides unyielding protection for the Manufacture UNICO HUB 1280 movement with column-wheel flyback chronograph. The Classic Fusion Ferrari GT is available with a choice of three cases: Carbon 3D fibre, King Gold (limited to 500 timepieces) or titanium (limited to 1,000 timepieces).
Son of Earth Tobacco The gold bezel and lateral inserts of the ArtyA Son of Earth Gold Tobacco are intricately hand engraved by one of the most talented engravers of the world, Bram Ramon, creating a look that is truly unconventional. Framing an even more unconventional dial, which is fully clad in genuine tobacco leaves delicately hand “dialized” by artist Dominique Arpa-Cirpka, Yvan Arpa explains: “Working with living materials is always a challenge. We had to stabilize the material to make it as lively and expressive as possible, whilst ensuring it would stand the test of time. After carrying out a great many tests, we can now guarantee that the Tobacco will age just as well as the timeless passion of its owners!” The mechanism behind this unique piece is an exclusive ArtyA Aion automatic COSC certified movement. MB&F Legacy Machine FlyingT
Now in its 14th year of creating collaborative works of audacious horological art for the wrist - and sometimes for the tabletop - MB&F has finally created a timepiece dedicated exclusively to women. The Legacy Machine FlyingT is a three-dimensional creation, with a steeply cambered bezel and slender, beveled lugs on a round case that is fully set with diamonds. The high, convex domed sapphire crystal hovers over a curved dial plate creating a stunning aesthetic. An asymmetric opening frames a raised flying tourbillon escapement, the carriage of which is topped by a single large diamond. A dial of white or black lacquer with blued gold hands sits on a 50° tilt at the 7 o’clock position. The watch is set with either round-brilliant or baguette diamonds depending on preference. mbandf.com
Chopard Happy Sport Oval
The newest interpretation of the iconic Happy Sport has curvy oval proportions and a supple, updated version of the original galet (pebble) bracelet that adorned the first watch in the collection back in 1993. The bracelet is masterfully constructed using polished rounded pebble-like links, and while made of steel, it is as flexible as knitted mesh following the curves of the wrist wonderfully. This combination of fine construction, along with the use of both steel and diamonds, makes the watch accessible and wearable in the spirit of the easy-going charm at the heart of Happy Sport. In addition to the seven bezel-set diamonds dancing between sapphire crystals over the dial, there are diamonds set into the curved bezel of the stainless steel version. chopard.com
What Does
“Planning For The Future” Mean to You?
with Kelly Greig, Private Client Partner at Irwin Mitchell
We are generally all aware of the need to take steps to protect ourselves and our families with regard to our long-term care and the future, but it can be difficult to find the time to do so. With the best will in the world, we are entrenched in the demands of our daily lives, so taking action around managing our needs in “later life” is not always a priority. You may already have a Will, crafted to make your wishes clear with regard to how your assets should be distributed after your death, which is essential in providing clarity for all concerned. It is fair to say that there is often a focus put upon how to protect your loved ones in the event of your own demise. On top of this we are keen to also draw your attention to the importance of planning for your future by making sure you are armed with information that helps you plan for your retirement and beyond as well as considering choices in respect of your long-term care. The phrase “Moving into Care” could fill you with dread, but we feel strongly that it can only be positive to plan for the future by ensuring that you have all the necessary facts surrounding this daunting topic. Indeed, this may already be relevant to you, for example if you have elderly relatives who are about to, or have already moved into care and you would like access to information to support them further. The fundamental concern for many people centres upon how their care will be funded. There are various factors to be considered and there may be financial help available to you, subject to your own personal
circumstances. We all have different physical, mental and personal healthcare needs and every individual should be assessed accordingly. Would you purchase a property without the benefit of legal advice? An issue which has attracted less attention is that of the contract between the care home and the individual receiving the care (and their representative, if under a power of attorney or as “next of kin”, which, contrary to popular belief, has no legal definition in any case). It is astounding how readily people sign this contract, without understanding the binding and generally onerous relationship it serves to create. We cannot stress enough the importance of taking legal advice prior to signing these documents and ensuring you understand their terms of business before any contractual relationship comes into existence. We know moving into care can be an extremely difficult and stressful time for both the person making the transition and for family and friends. That’s why we offer a human touch as well as an expert hand to guide you through the complexities helping you to make the right decisions, both in advance of, and when, embarking upon this process. The team at Irwin Mitchell is well placed to advise you in relation to the myriad issues which arise when considering options for you or a loved one. Get in touch to find out more about our package which provides full information and a checklist of everything you need to consider when planning a move into care for either yourself or a loved one.

To remove, just rinse with plenty of hot water, then use the collection’s moisturising face cream on the dry skin. Providing a matte effect, and designed especially for male skin, the moisturising face cream goes handin-hand with the complementing eye cream. Enriched with hyaluronic acid and extract of African birch, the moisturising eye cream helps reduce signs of expression and fine wrinkles, ensuring a relaxed and rested look around the eyes. The metal roll-on applicator is not only easy to use but feels wonderfully fresh against the skin helping ease any puffiness. The collection isn’t complete without the elegant and purposeful accessories. The artful shaving brush combines quality, design and functionality. Handmade in Italy, it is balanced in size with a diameter of 24mm to provide complete control and handiness. Its soft compact bristles retain water and make the foam even richer and easier to apply, lifting up the hairs perfectly and helping to
reduce ingrowing hairs. The design of the stand and the handle is based on the iconic lines of the Cologne Art Deco bottle. Every time the brush is used, the tuft should be rinsed with running water and wrung out carefully with a clean towel. Available in two dynamic colours: the elegant black version and a bright Parma yellow one, the bristles are made with ultra-soft synthetic material. The beard brush has also been created with synthetic bristles and comes in a sophisticated travel version too. In this version, the brush is completed with a practical cylindrical container in which to replace it after having dried it. The pezzo di resistenza is the razor. A result of the best Italian craftsmanship, it combines ergonomics and design. The clever weight distribution at the base of the handle allows a stable grip, while the precision of the articulated head, which follows the outline of the face, ensures a perfect shave. The razor is available in two sophisticated colour versions, Parma yellow or black, and can be used with Gillette®Fusion Proglide blades. In order to guarantee the razor‘s long life, the metal parts must always be dried. Algarve Appeal For those who are lucky enough to have visited, it’s impossible not to be captivated by Portugal’s southern stretch of coastline. For golfers, it’s a destination which continues to deliver everything required for the ideal trip. The sunshine, the location, the golf courses…only in the Algarve do you get them all rolled into one perfect package. There are some key ingredients which make the perfect golf holiday. Quality, choice, variety, cost, accessibility, weather, accommodation, food and drink, culture…nightlife. Depending on the demographic and the group, all of these factors will take on a different priority. Some want to play as many top courses as possible in the time available. Others prefer a more balanced trip with some other activities in their time away from the course. But is there anywhere else which ticks as many boxes as the Algarve? As a holiday destination in its own right, the southern coast of Portugal’s year-round sunshine, natural beauty and seemingly endless miles of golden beaches act as a magnet for travellers. But for golfers, the wide selection of incredible golf courses is the real pull - there are more than 40 of them, which are all within an hour’s drive of Faro airport. Flights are frequent, inexpensive - and importantly short - from the UK. With average annual temperatures of 17.5˚C, more than 3000 hours of
sunshine every year and 150 miles of sandy beaches, mesmerising caves and viewpoints with sparkling ocean rolling in from every turn, the region has a capacity to satisfy the soul. So it’s little wonder that the Algarve remains so popular and it’s easy to understand why families and non-golfers enjoy the region just as much. Wonderful restaurants are waiting to be discovered and they serve a broad range of cuisines - the fresh seafood is an obvious highlight. For the perfect wine to accompany those glorious meals, the climate is ideal for producing high-quality wines. A rich array of quality hotels and accommodation options are on offer and with so many water-based activities such as snorkelling, sailing, kayaking and scuba-diving - boredom is never a factor if lazing on a beautiful beach leaves you wanting more. Away from the coast, the hills are perfect for hiking, cycling or rock climbing and there is nature in abundance with reserves and national parks waiting to be enjoyed. It’s a region which already has just about every box ticked for the ideal holiday, but for golfers, it cranks up a few notches when the exceptional wealth of courses becomes clear.

PALMARES
Palmares Finds Perfect Combination Creating the right mix is never easy, but every now and then you find the perfect blend.
At times, we may all fancy ourselves in the kitchen, throwing various ingredients into a pan when the mood takes us. Invariably, the final result doesn’t taste too great, unless there is some planning and some idea of what you want to achieve. Freestyle jazz also has its moments for some - but when it doesn’t hit the mark, it just sounds like the kind of noise you get when you throw some kids into a room full of random musical instruments. When a golf resort attempts to crack the code between staying true to its roots and embracing a modern-day experience, the
results can sometimes be equally muddled. However, at Onyria Palmares, skill, application, investment and vision have taken what was already a superb golf course and catapulted it to a whole new level. The Algarve has long been a Mecca for UK golfers to make their pilgrimage and many often flock to the central belt with a glut of courses dotted around the hotspots of Vilamoura and Albufeira, but venture just a little further west - only 40 minutes from Faro airport - and the glorious Palmares awaits. Stretching down towards the Atlantic Ocean with the kind of views which are hard to beat with a golf club in your hand standing on any tee in the world. It’s hard to believe that the Algarve’s association with golf only began in 1966. Palmares may not have been the trailblazer - that honour is with the nearby Penina - but it was certainly among the early pioneers when it opened nine years later. In 2010, an extensive redesign took place with the acclaimed golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jr at the helm. Since then, Palmares has scooped up a string of awards and remains the numberone choice for so many golfers who visit this idyllic region of Portugal. Trent Jones Jr’s approach was to improve what was already there. It’s fair to suggest that him and his team did a superb job. Three nine-hole loops - Alvor, Lagos and Praia each present a distinctively different challenge but all offer some memorable experiences that non-golfers may never fully appreciate.
onyriaresorts.com | onyriapalmares.com | onyriabeachhousehotel.com
TRAVEL Our visit to the Alvor coincided with that rare beast - rain in the Algarve - as we set off on the first tee. A brisk 10-minute shower later and the sunshine returns, with some added fresh zip to the fairways and greens for a glorious afternoon among friends. In truth, if you start your round on the Alvor - you can play three different combinations with 27 holes to choose from - it’s a gentle start with few clues on what’s to come, but all becomes more apparent as you stand on the fourth tee. A par-five from an elevated tee to a downhill fairway, which can only inflate your ego if you get a good drive away, as the ocean glints in the distance. It’s no flash in the pan either as the very next hole presents a similar visual spectacle. Located primarily in the northern section of the resort, there is a parkland feel as you plot your way through corridors lined with mature Pine trees. But midway through this nine, the addition of those more exposed holes among the dunes comes into play before reverting to type for the closing stretch and a tough finish. Away from the golf, the nearby historic nearby town of Lagos is well worth a visit in its own right. It is a bustling town full of activity, nightlife and modern attractions, but also brimming with history. The impressive natural harbour offers the views and the ancient fort stands proud, while the spectacular rocky headland
of Ponta da Piedade is one of the Algarve’s most famous coastal landmarks. It is a walled town with cobbled streets and centuriesold architecture is still preserved despite an earthquake in 1755. Of course, the gastronomy is an enticing part of any visit to the Algarve and none more so than in Lagos. Don Sebastião in the town centre serves up an incredible sea bass and also boasts an extraordinary wine and port cellar for special occasions. Taking an exclusive look inside, the selection is unfathomable and when

pressed on the most prized asset, the expert could reply with nothing but a smile and the words “For certain bottles, there is no price.” The beachfront Campimar restaurant is also an outstanding spot and handily just a short walk from the comfortable and welllocated Belmar Spa & Beach Resort, but to get a real flavour of the true Algarve food and drink experience, take a trip on the fabulous Eating Algarve Tours with the genial Antonio sharing a few secrets of the town’s hidden eateries - the place where the locals go when they want top-quality, authentic food. Suitably refreshed, the Palmares experience unfolds once again with the Lagos and Praia on the agenda. The Praia kicks off with another of those inviting tee shots, downhill and sloping away to the green with the temptation to lash it with the driver for those of us less concerned about strategy, while the more astute golfers opted for position. Although it is the Algarve - and its 300 days of sunshine per year - there is an Open Championship links feel to this nine as many of the holes run alongside the coast and there’s even an active train line running alongside, which rattles by every half an hour or so. Even when the temperatures start to climb in the summer months, that cooling breeze is a welcome asset, even if it makes finding fairways and greens that little bit more difficult. Although this doesn’t quite enjoy the same sweeping views as the higher Alvor and Lagos loops, it is still a special mix of holes. The Lagos - the third crack at the Palmares offering - begins with the parkland feel and features the only two lakes found on the complex in the short par-three third hole and the par-five sixth hole, while the eighth hole lays claim to the best tee shot of all 27 from an elevated tee looking out towards the ocean and an invitingly huge fairway waiting for you.
At some golf courses, there are a handful of memorable holes but Palmares definitely delivers with a wide selection. It’s a golf resort, which ticks the boxes for both the low-handicapper and the occasional holiday golfer. And the variety means you can stay at the same resort for several days to enjoy a different round each time. Kicking back with a beer on the clubhouse terrace as you recount your golfing tales of the day is the ideal final chapter in an enthralling book. For the non-golfers, the Beach House Hotel is every bit as enticing, overlooking the course. With just 18 rooms and two suites, each with a panoramic sea view and a balcony or terrace, it is within easy walking distance of the tees and practice area of the golf course. The hotel also enjoys an outdoor swimming pool and a 180° bar and restaurant, with an expansive ocean vista - and all just 700m from the beach. It is five-star comfort but in a relaxed setting and with the atmosphere of privacy and seclusion you might expect from your own beach house. For those who have deeper pockets and have their heart set on longer stays, a selection of villas are available for purchase on the site - all cleverly positioned so as not to ruin anyone’s view of the ocean and carefully sculpted into the natural environment. Either as a holiday home or a place to enjoy a long and enjoyable retirement, there can’t be many more places on the planet quite as appetising. Those views also mesmerised Trent Jones Jr during his remarkable renovation project - a location he once dubbed “a warmer Scotland”. He added: “Once in a decade an opportunity comes along on which you can stretch your art and architecture fully. This piece of land was meant to be a golf course.” This guy clearly knows his stuff.

THE DYLAN AMSTERDAM
The
Dylan Amsterdam
Conveniently located in the heart of the ‘9-streets’ shopping area of Amsterdam on the prestigious ’Keizersgracht” canal, is The Dylan Amsterdam. Just a short walk away from the city’s main attractions such as the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, colourful floating flower market, the contemporary boutique hotel effortlessly combines historical architecture with contemporary flair. Renowned for its luxury 5-star accommodation, Michelin starred dining and personal service, the Small Luxury Hotel member is one of Amsterdam’s best kept secrets providing even the most discerning traveller a lavish base while in the city. Dating back to 1613, when construction workers began excavating the fifth canal, the “Keizersgracht”. A wooden building was constructed five years later, and a theatre founded in the building called the “Duytsche Academie”. In 1632, the architect Jacob van Campen was commissioned to build a stone theatre where theatre performances as Gijsbreght van Aemstel were played with many famous faces visiting for the next 100 years. Sadly, the building caught fire in 1772 and completely burned down, the only feature that remains today is “Van Campen’s” impressive main gate façade which not only provides a wonderfully private entrance but also showcases the property’s fascinating history. In 1773 the site was sold to one of the Regents of the Roman Catholic Church charities, known as the Old & Poor People’s office. This foundation retained ownership until 1998, when the building
was completely renovated and reopened as Hotel Blakes. In 2004, the luxury boutique hotel became The Dylan Amsterdam. Today, boasting 40 impeccably furnished rooms and suites, all individually designed in four different styles, the hotel provides a welcome haven from the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city. Guests can choose from hand-painted luxury single rooms to palatial suites with a garden or canal view. Each room is wonderfully unique with their own quirks and custom features while effortlessly maintaining aspects of the distinctive style of the hotel. The Amber rooms and suites in particular are the newest addition to The Dylan Amsterdam and have been designed by Studio Linse. Inspired by the precious gemstone, the carefully curated rooms fuse the hotel’s rich history with the contemporary pieces of art. Overlooking the hotel’s secluded garden, the rooms feature an array of warming amber tones making use of soft furnishings and luxurious marble, wood and antique brass fixtures and accents. For an authentic Amsterdam experience, the Loft style double rooms and suites provide eclectic charm in this ever-surprising property with original wooden beams as the focal point. Elsewhere, the Loxura rooms and suites have been inspired by the coppercoloured Loxura butterfly and feature a bespoke wooden drinks cabinet that has been created especially for the hotel and is finished with silver leaf and mother-of-pearl handles. Finally, the Serendipity category has been created in a tranquil colour palette of neutral brown and soft greys having been designed by renowned Dutch interior architect Remy Meijers.

LOUIS XIII It's in the making
Historic beyond doubt, LOUIS XIII has been masterfully crafted since 1874, yet each and every Cellar Master who has ever taken on the responsibility of caring for and selecting the perfect eaux-de-vie for the creation of this complex and indulgent elixir has always looked to the future. No LOUIS XIII Cellar Master has or ever will have the opportunity to enjoy a glass of their own creation. A century in the making, stretching generations of Cellar Masters, the process of creating this spectacular liquid is a thankless task. All each Cellar Master can do is try to ensure that the absolute best selection of eaux-de-vie is maintained for the next allowing this incredible process to continue. Today, the historic brand continues making history with the youngest Cellar Master to ever be selected for such a job and rests the entire future of the house on his shoulders. Since 2014, Baptiste Loiseau has meticulously and painstakingly selected only the finest eaux-de-vie to begin the process for generations to come in 100 years time to enjoy whilst working with the eaux-de-vie selected and aged by his predecessors over the past century to create the drink you can enjoy today. We delve into the world of LOUIS XIII with the man himself and find out what makes this such an important drink. What drew you to cognac and more specifically LOUIS XIII? From an early age I’ve had a love for the earth. As a child much of my time was with my grandparents who were market gardeners; these memories take me back to my childhood village where I grew up and the start of the grape harvest season. This passion for nature was the starting point of my career. And beyond nature, there is the Time. Long time is at the heart of everything I do with LOUIS XIII. How did you become the youngest Cellar Master the brand has ever had (what does it take to achieve such a feat)? I chose to become an agronomist and oenologist. I was fortunate enough to study at the Institut National Agronomique Paris Grignon followed by the Eco Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier.
I first joined the House of Rémy Martin in 2007 as a consulting project engineer. I became a member of the Tasting Committee, aside of Pierrette Trichet the first female Cellar Master among the major cognac Houses, first as an apprentice before earning the status of ‘expert’. Being part of the team helped me to flourish and mature. The role gave me access to an extraordinary palette of eaux-de-vie samples: 1,500 to 2,000 tasted each year. Practicing alongside Pierrette Trichet, allowed me to learn the art of taste, selection and creation of the final blend of LOUIS XIII. Every year, it is the same emotion for me: be able to offer the same aromatic profile since 1874 in every decanter. However, the composition of the liquid is different. This is the beauty of the art of blending: recreating LOUIS XIII every year with a different pallet of eaux-de-vie. What is it that makes LOUIS XIII so special? LOUIS XIII is a heritage of excellence, each decanter created is the lifetime achievement of generations of Cellar Master. Since its origins in 1874, each generation of Cellar Master selects from our cellars the oldest and greatest eaux-de-vie for LOUIS XIII. Currently, I am currently setting aside our finest eauxde-vie, as a legacy for my successor who will continue to blend LOUIS XIII for the next century.

LOUIS XIII
Brand recognition is key, how do you maintain this through production? Tasting LOUIS XIII is an experience like no other and is appreciated throughout the ages. For over a century now, LOUIS XIII has been synonymous with refinement the world over. It has been a witness to many of the most significant events: exhibited at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 and soon established itself as a symbol of French taste and sophistication. It also captivated the Royal Courts of Europe and soon became a permanent feature at the most prestigious hotels and this proud legacy continues today. When it goes to the production, I just have to say that it is rare. We depend on what nature offers. Then we need time to produce LOUIS XIII. How are LOUIS XIII and more specifically you pushing the brand forward? I do it every day when I select and taste the most precious eaux-de-vie. I also appreciate a lot of traveling to meet our clients everywhere in the world: Kuala Lumpur, London, Kyoto, New York, Genève…this is my approach to inspire privileged guests to discover the prevalence, story and uniqueness of LOUIS XIII. I like to share my passion and my knowledge. What does ‘Black Pearl’ bring to the table that consumers haven’t experienced before? It brings pure concentration of savoir-faire, rarity and excellence. For the first time ever, we present an exquisite and totally unprecedented 35cl crystal decanter. It contains a rare blend of LOUIS XIII cognac, signature of the cellar André Hériard Dubreuil, cooler, darker and damper than the other cellars in a bespoke Baccarat Decanter. In a numbered and limited edition of
only 1498 in the colour of steel, its precious liquid is drawn from a single tierçon hidden in the family reserve, deep inside the André Hériard Dubreuil cellar. When you arrive in front of the blackened walls of the cellar, when you step inside into the half-light, the air is chilly, but the moist warmth of the forest carpet is distinct - there’s the scent of the undergrowth, of mossy banks and tree bark, of wild mushrooms. Here, set against the chalky wall deep in the alcove in the family reserve, lies the tierçon that caught my attention in 2017. These specific conditions give fresh, floral and intense earthy aromas for a LOUIS XIII blend with a singular signature. It is an amazing way to approach and discover LOUIS XIII. During times of such economic uncertainty and potential turmoil, how is the brand managing its production? I must say that when I am at the shadow of my dark cellars, my main concern is to select and create the final blend of LOUIS XIII. LOUIS XIII was created in 1874. Since that date, there have been conflicts, economic crisis, revolutions and LOUIS XIII is still there, aging slowly in the oldest cellars in Cognac. Scarcity has always been synonymous with LOUIS XIII. Mother Nature is my partner. Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie must be aged for a long period of time to give their best. Keep LOUIS XIII as an investment? I would say that it is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region. LOUIS XIII features exceptional aromas evoking myrrh, honey, dried roses, plum, honeysuckle, cigar box, leather, figs and passion fruit. Why do you want to resist enjoying it?
louisxiii-cognac.com
LOUIS XIII What is next for LOUIS XIII? Are the current global climate change forecasts going to cause an inevitable change in the production of this globally recognised elixir? There is nothing more important than our soil at LOUIS XIII. Without soil, we don’t have grapes; without grapes there is no LOUIS XIII. As a Maison we are doing everything possible to protect the planet. As a Cellar Master, I have to think a century ahead. The teams spend a vast amount of time selecting the correct oak trees to plant for the next age of barrels and together we consult experts to evaluate the risks of change to guarantee the production of LOUIS XIII in 2119. Grande Champagne is the only region the LOUIS XIII grapes come from. The quality of the terroir, its soil and climate are what makes the Cognac region so unique. And how can you manage the production to ensure consumers can continue to enjoy the same LOUIS XIII they have always enjoyed? LOUIS XIII is very rare. It is the life achievement of generations of cellar masters and is blended from the most precious Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, matured over time in century-old oak casks. I manage today the future with my wine-growers partners, our distillators-partners. They are all involved in LOUIS XIII today and for the future.

CHAMPAGNE
The Aromas Of Champagne Francoise Peretti, Director of the Champagne Bureau, explores the magnificent plethora of olfactory notes found in Champagne. With the boroughs of London awash with pink and white hues of cherry blossom, their delicate scent heralding the arrival of spring, I can think of no better time than to talk about the aromas to be found in champagne. Smelling and tasting wine is a practice that can appear to be a mysterious art, but if you know where to look - and with confidence - you’ll find you can easily identify key elements. You can also rest assured, that there really is no wrong answer; some of the most respected wine personalities have identified scents from burning rubber, to bubble-gum, pencil lead, petroleum and bananas, so whatever you say it’s unlikely to sound too fruity.
Youthful Radiance (2-3 years) Let us begin with young champagnes. All Champagne wines spend at least 15 months aging in the producer’s cellars, making the majority of Non-Vintages around 2-3 years old when you first receive them. The aroma that develops in each bottle is entirely dependent on the unique blend of grapes inside. This is typically a blend that includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier but varies according to style. A ‘Blanc de Blancs’ will be 100% Chardonnay, a ‘Blanc de Noirs’ will only feature the red grapes of Pinot Noir and Meunier, but a classic Non-Vintage or rosé champagne is likely to feature a mixture of all three. If you’re tasting something with a high proportion of
Chardonnay, this grape is renowned for its liveliness and minerality. It will often exhibit white flowers, Lime Flower and Hawthorn; citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit; exotic fruits like pineapple and lychee; apples and pears; ginger, aniseed and mint, or at times chalk and the yeastiness of fresh white bread. Meunier is cherished for its fruitiness and roundness of flavour, featuring red apples and wild strawberries; oranges, mandarins, peaches, apricots and other yellow fruits; at times hints of vanilla. Pinot Noir is championed for giving body and structure to champagne. Champagnes heavy with Pinot Noir often exude red fruits such red cherries, strawberries and raspberries; darker delights such as blueberries, damsons and ripe blackberries; at times floral scents of roses and violets, or even the exotic richness of mangoes and spicy cinnamon.

COLUMN
Mature Balance (3-6 years) Time brings out the richness and flavour in Champagne wines and as it passes, a new aroma profile will begin to emerge across the board. Vintage champagnes will have all aged for at least 3 years and it’s considerably longer for the Special Cuvees (prestige cuvÊe). For Chardonnay based champagne, you will experience the heady smell of Danish pastries, brioche, milk toffee, almonds and stewed fruits. Wines featuring Pinot Meunier will hint at honey, walnuts, crystallised fruits and liquorice, while Pinot Noir will offer dried fruits, figs, jam, wild berries, hazelnuts, dates and tobacco.
Complete & Complex (6-8 years+) Special vintages and prestige cuvĂŠes are often aged, or kept by their owners, for many years. During this time, if kept in good condition, they develop another layer of depth and complexity, offering up quirks and special characteristics to those who drink them. Generous Chardonnay tends to develop a certain toastiness, exhibiting warm gingerbread aromas and the subtle sweetness of quince jelly. Meunier has a dark richness of forest undergrowth and cocoa, while Pinot Noir turns to coffee and raisins. 020 7244 1930 | info@champagne.co.uk | champagne.fr

I m p e r i a l Tr e a s u r e O p e n s i n L o n d o n Boasting Michelin stars at the group’s Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong outposts, it’s about time that Imperial Treasure came to London. Renowned for their authentic Chinese cuisine, the elegant dining room and bar is housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building on St James’s Waterloo Place. Begin in the impressive cocktail bar, sampling one of the many innovative cocktails such as the Lady Fon Fon, comprising of Botanist gin, Louis Roederer Champagne, Chambord Liqueur, berries cordial, apple and agave. Before moving on to the elegant and airy dining room. The restaurant itself is as sophisticated as the area that surrounds. Not only does Imperial Treasure boast the cocktail bar and main dining room, sectioned with its individual ‘salons’, but there is also a wine tasting room, and three first floor private dining rooms reserved for parties and private events. Award-winning restaurateur, Alfred Leung has spent a significant amount of time choosing only the best seasonal ingredients, sustainably sourced fish and live seafood to serve his customers, including Gillardeau oysters from France, Iberico pork and A5 Wagyu beef. As such, there are a variety of tasting menus as well as a large a la carte and dim sum menu. The speciality of the house, however, is Imperial Treasure’s Peking Duck. Matured for an average of 40 days, each duck is expertly carved at the table and served in paper thin homemade pancakes.
A good way to try a selection of Imperial Treasure’s most famed dishes is through the Signature Menu. Priced at £88 per person for a minimum of two people, the menu offers the likes of Crispy Lobster Roll, Golden Okra, Foie Gras and Beancurd; Soft Shell Crab with crunchy Soya Crumble; Stir Fried Prawn with Chilli Sauce; and Crispy Corn Fed Chicken with an Almond Flaked top. A highlight of the eight-course menu has to be the Poached Chinese Cabbage in Chicken Broth. Served after the delectable Sautéed Beef Tenderloin with Crispy Garlic, the cabbage leaves still have enough bite in the warming and flavoursome broth. Finally, as the last savoury course before dessert the Braised Noodle with Mushroom and Truffle Oil ensures that you won’t be going hungry – if you weren’t full already! The subtle touch of luxurious truffle oil complements the mushrooms nicely. Carefully curated by world-renowned wine expert Poh Tiong, the drinks list brings together award-winning reds from China and English sparkling varietals as well as over 22 available by the glass, including a Chateau d’Yquem 1998. All the major champagne houses are presented including Cristal, Krug, Dom Perignon, Laurent-Perrier, Bollinger, Pol Roger and Deutz alongside smaller grower producers. The list also features an impressive collection of over 30 Japanese and international rare whiskies that compliment the selection of Asian-inspired classic and contemporary cocktails. The perfect location for those looking for first-class Chinese cuisine in central London.

1978 Porsche 930 Turbo £POA
AUTOBAHN BASHER Changes to FIA regulations in the mid 70’s meant that Porsche would have to create a road going turbocharged monster for the ‘general public’ in order to continue competing on the race track. The result, the very first 911 Turbo. Released in 1975, the 3.0-litre single turbocharged flat-six brought a whole new level of driving to the road. This was shortlived however, as Porsche made significant changes just three years later. Introducing the updated 930 which boasted an increased engine capacity and consequently higher power and torque figures, Porsche’s new 3.3-litre 911 Turbo would bring with it a whole host of upgrades including upgraded brakes similar to those used on the 917 race car. This excellent right-hand drive UK example comes in the desirable black coachwork and red leather interior combination. It has been meticulously maintained and has an extensive service file to show all of the works carried out. The car has just been subjected to circa £50k expenditure from Parrs Porsche specialist doing any works or upgrades which needed doing and as a result is a very high end example which drives as a very well sorted 911 Turbo should.
In addition to these works the car also benefits from: Stainless steel heat exchanges Turbo stripped and improved Headlights upgraded with later Porsche improvements Higher quality shock absorbers Brakes completely stripped and improved to Porsche race standard Gearbox refurbished and all worn parts replaced Engine taken out and examined, new head gaskets, head gas flowed, new upgraded titanium studs HT leads replaced with quality leads from Dassault Engineering Petrol pumps replaced New engine cover and tail wing New windscreen New tyres

BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT
Beautifully British Following a complete overhaul, the Bentley Continental GT has been elevated even further than it’s already dizzying heights of luxurious quality and performance. This is an all-new car that despite possessing nothing in common with its predecessor, besides an ideology, manages to build on the incredible success story that the 2003 Continental GT afforded the company. Bringing a considerably sharper, aggressive, sporty and sleek aesthetic to the exterior, the design team have clearly worked tirelessly to achieve this stunning final result. The new look takes the car beyond its position as an incredibly well crafted GT to one that can boast one of the most beautiful designs on top. There is little denying that Bentley have maintained the identity of the Continental GT, this new iteration comes complete with the iconic split headlight design and enormous, imposing front grille, but each has been redesigned and reengineered to fit its new design code and the result is quite spectacular.

Beauty is usually said to be confined to the eye of the beholder, but it would be hard to imagine any individual with anything but appreciation for this car’s appearance. From the rolling front end, the cars body lines move swiftly towards the exaggerated rear wheel arches - with enough of an angle and room to rest your morning coffee on with ease - and continue across the rear profile of the car. Encompassing the subtle rear spoiler and distinctive, sleek rear lights, these lines add harsh, aggressive angles and flair whilst managing to simultaneously create an air of smooth sophistication throughout. It’s not just the aesthetics that have received the update however. Huge vents at the front aid with air flow whilst that subtle spoiler helps to improve the cars aerodynamics, pushing the Continental GT’s limits to an impressive 207mph. Of course the spectacular twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 unit under the bonnet goes some way in helping with that. It also allows this car to accelerate from zero to sixty in just 3.6 seconds - swift enough to ensure that coffee doesn’t stick

around on your wheel arch too long - thanks to 626 bhp and whopping 900 Nm of pulling power. What’s more, Bentley have managed to introduce the mind-blowingly complex cylinder deactivation technology into their W12 engine meaning you can now enjoy the efficiency benefits of a six-cylinder car when driving at light load. Effectively making one of the best grand touring engines perfectly crafted for long journeys suitable for use around town once you reach your destination. The most advanced 12-cylinder engine in the world, this powertrain befits 300 million software calculations per second and now supports both start-stop technology and coasting. Admittedly, it doesn’t scream fuel efficiency - we are still effectively talking about a 3.0-litre V6 - however when you consider its performance credentials and competitors, it goes a long way to highlighting why this should be your car of choice. Alongside the engine enhancements, they have also introduced a dual-clutch, eight-speed transmission for the
and materials alone save a staggering 80kg on its predecessor while the cars longer and lower profile support improvements in ride and comfort - whilst helping out on the aesthetic front. An all-new active all-wheel-drive system has also been developed to replace the traditional 40:60 power delivery split meaning the front-to-rear torque split now automatically adapts to the driving conditions. Utilising rear-wheel drive as

control system which adjusts the anti-roll bar actuators on each axle electronically for unrivalled car control. This system delivers the perfect balance between dynamic capability and comfort thanks to its instant and variable nature pushing the Continental GT to new heights. Comfort has always been at the forefront of Bentley’s engineering ethos - second only to performance - and the latest car from the stable is no exception. Refined luxury of the highest order, the interior cabin is nothing short of exceptional. Beautifully hand crafted, every inch is adorned with quality materials presented in perfect harmony, from natural wood and leather to contrasting chrome switchgear and detailing. When you sit, you will enjoy the pleasure of a new 20-way adjustable seat that leads the way in comfort and refinement. Cooling, heating and massage functions all remain to deliver the ultimate in driving comfort. It’s not just in the physical comfort however, for the musically appreciative, there are now three sound system options from the standard 10 speaker, 650 Watt system to the 18 speaker, 2,200 Watt Naim system which comes complete with Active Bass Transducers built in to the front seats along with eight different sound modes to choose from. Possibly the most exciting addition to the Continental GT interior is the stunning rotating display. Before the engine starts, the beautiful veneer runs seamlessly across the dash, but once the button is pushed, the centre begins to glide silently forward and around to reveal the largest ever touchscreen in a Bentley. The 12.3” high-definition digital MMI display provides a customerconfigurable home screen allowing you to select three of your preferred functions for ease and has been designed to work similarly to your smart phone for an easy and intuitive experience. However, that’s not all. There is a third side to this elegant display and it is the most impressive of them all. Presenting three analogue dials, this final side offers displays of the outside temperature, a compass and a chronometer, each finished in such a sophisticated fashion. You won’t want to look at the modern, digital screen, this will captivate you and won’t let go. Bentley have taken a well established success story and elevated it beyond anything the Continental GT has ever offered before. Quality, comfort and refinement in abundance.

PREMIER BENTLEY CENTENARY LIMITED EDITION Both world-renowned companies, Breitling and Britain’s Bentley Motors enjoy the longest-ever partnership between a watch brand and an automobile manufacturer. Dating back to 2002, when Bentley where designing the very first Continental GT (released in 2003) and chose Breitling to design the onboard clock.
Bentley commissioned Breitling to create an onboard clock that would reflect the unparalleled luxury, peerless quality, and extraordinary performance of the new grand tourer, which was debuted in 2003. At this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, Breitling introduced the Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition wristwatch to commemorate the partnership and celebrate Bentley’s 100 years of luxury motoring excellence. Breitling CEO Georges Kern says the new watch reflects the values his brand shares with the legendary British automaker: “We’re proud of our partnership with Bentley. Both companies are known for quality, performance, and design excellence, and both are built on powerful legacies. The Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is a celebration of Bentley’s history, its luxury, and its incredible racing pedigree, as well as its important, intimate connection to Breitling.” The Breitling Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is an exceptional member of the Swiss watch brand’s elegant Premier collection. Produced in 18k red gold and stainless-steel versions,
some outstanding design features distinguish these limited-edition timepieces from all others. The elegant, unique brown elm burl dial with black subdials (a chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock and a small-second subdial at 9 o’clock) is particularly eye-catching. These contrasting subdials indicate that the watches are powered by Breitling’s flagship Manufacture Caliber 01. The in-house mechanical movement delivers an impressive power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The movement is visible through a unique transparent caseback featuring a Bentley logo. The 18k red gold version is engraved with a “ONE OF 200” inscription, while the stainless-steel version is inscribed “ONE OF 1000”, confirmation of the edition sizes for the watches. While the dial features a white tachymeter scale on a black inner bezel around the dial, with a red tachymeter inscription. The Breitling Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition in 18k red gold is presented on a brown leather strap whose pattern and stitching were inspired by the seats in a Bentley. The stainlessbreitling.com
Sir Tim Birkin was one of the legendary Bentley Boys, and it was in the No. 9 - his own car - that he raced and broke records in.
steel version will be available on the brown Bentley-inspired leather strap as well or on a stainless-steel bracelet. On the left-hand side of the 42-millimeter stainless-steel case is a plate with an engraved “Bentley” inscription, whose design is based on the dashboard of the historic supercharged 1929 “Blower” Bentley. While Bentley is known for its luxurious road cars, the brand also has an impressive history on the track. Between 1924 and 1930, the famous Bentley Boys and Girls won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race five times. That success, however, is not only a part of the brand’s distant past. In 2003, Bentley returned to Le Mans and took the first and second place finishes. At that edition of the world’s most famous endurance race, Breitling was Team Bentley’s proud main sponsor.
It was his vision that brought a supercharger to a Bentley. While the official name of the car was “4½ Litre Supercharged,” they soon became widely known and admired as the “Blower” Bentleys. Perhaps the greatest of all the Blower’s races was the 1930 Le Mans, where Sir Tim drove the second of the five Birkin team cars, registration UU 5872 and carrying race number 9. In celebration of the car and its driver, the Bentley Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner features a wood insert from the seat of his iconic 1930 No. 9 Le Mans race car. Set in resin and situated in the middle of the centre dial of the rotating display, it adds a tantalising piece of history to each Limited Edition. When Sir Tim Birkin’s car was being restored, it was necessary to replace the wood insert, making the original wood available for a place of honour in the new automobiles. The wooden dials that contribute to the allure of the Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition watches are an important link to the wood inserts in the new Continental GT Number 9 Edition and, by extension, to the days in which the original Bentley Boys and Girls attracted so much attention with their successes on the track and their headline-making antics when they were not racing. The Breitling Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition watches are a stunning celebration of two great luxury brands that are appreciated around the globe for their design, their performance, and their history.

Garden Square with Charlie Bubear, Head of Savills Chelsea & Earls Court
Communal garden squares help to foster a sense of community. Properties located on garden squares are desirable due to the convenience of having a house with direct and clear access to green space. They can provide a feeling of country tranquillity, whilst also being minutes away from transport and shops. Savills research shows that there is a clear premium for living on a London Square. Buyers in prime central London can expect to pay an average of £1,902/ sq ft, compared to £1, 691/ sq ft for a home on a private or gated road. For families, their children are able to play outside with their friends in a safe and secure space. Each garden square has a different character and different governing rules, so it’s all about finding the right square for you. Potential buyers should look into the rules of each square as they can differ in whether they
allow dogs or ball games and you should ensure these reflect your family’s needs. The majority of London’s garden squares were created during the Georgian and Victorian eras. But unlike garden squares in other European capitals, our havens of wildlife were designed to be used and enjoyed and the properties that surround them continue to be some of the most desirable places to live in the capital Onslow Gardens Savills is currently marketing a property that backs directly onto the gardens. The gardens were built between 1863 – 78. The houses on Onslow Garden have three separate communal gardens. In 1828 George Basevi was appointed architect, followed by Henry Clutton from 1845 and then Charles James Freake from 1865 Kensington Square, Kensington The oldest garden square in London, Kensington Square has a charm quite apart from others. Founded in 1685, the square was initially called King’s Square in honour of James II, and came into its own when it housed William and Mary’s court from Kensington Palace.

I read recently that the PRS (Private Rental Sector) in the UK has grown considerably in both size and importance over the last five years and is now worth a staggering £1.29 trillion. The PRS now makes up 18% of the housing stock in England alone and is expected to rise to more than a third by 2032. A decade ago, buying a home was a very different experience. Post-credit crunch the landscape in E14 has changed, with many younger people unable to buy their own homes due to house price growth outpacing wages. This has made it both logical and practical for many people to rent, choosing between renting privately or using the options available from the local housing association.

10 years ago, of the 23,241 households in E14, around 6,715 were owner-occupied. Today the number of households in our area has increased to 34,326, with the number of owner-occupied properties increasing to 8,542. In 2001, only 5,062 properties were rented by private tenants compared to 2011’s figure of 12,567 — an increase of 148.3 per cent. How many cars per household? The profile of car ownership is a great signal of the practical needs of residents in a local market. Most households have a car, but the number owned varies enormously based on the type of area. For example, if you live in a one bedroom flat in a city you're much less likely to own a car than if you live in a commuter suburb.
