Spring in your step?
There should be, because you are currently standing in the city that does spring the best. In fact, York was the birthplace of spring, when, in 1843, the city voted to introduce an extra bit of the year between winter and summer, so as to give them a chance to tidy their gardens, make their wardrobes more appropriate, and admire the daffodils on the city walls. So you're welcome.
Since then York hasn't let up on the importance of the springtime, meaning March is one of the best times of year to be here. There is so much going on this month, and the whole place smells as fresh as a freshly washed daisy that has been growing in a bag of pot pourri. Highlights this month include Lambing Sunday at Askham Bryan College, where family members of all ages will enjoy seeing the
baby lambs, as well as feasting on some fine Yorkshire fare. The Living North Live Fair will come to the Racecourse this month as well, with an array of top interior design ideas to take home with you. There is so much taking place, and we have all the deets – right in your hands. Keep us close during your outings and you'll be on the ball right the way through until April.
Get in touch.... we would love to hear from you! Visit whatsoninyork.org AVRIL 01904 735209 avril@yourlocallink.co.uk

THE KING & I
MURDER, MARGARET, & ME (17TH FEBRUARY - 4TH MARCH) In the early sixties two national treasures were the creative force behind one of British cinema’s most successful franchises. But there’s an intriguing mystery behind the Miss Marple movies; they were almost never made. Agatha Christie didn’t want Margaret Rutherford to bring her most cherished creation to life. And Margaret Rutherford was mortified at the prospects of sullying her reputation with something as sordid as murder...

(8TH-18TH MARCH) East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination, staged by York Light Opera. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West, and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways.
MATHEW BOURNE'S EARLY ADVENTURES (24TH-25TH MARCH) Matthew Bourne returns to his roots in Early Adventures, a programme of hit pieces that launched the career of ‘Britain’s favourite choreographer’ and
saw the birth of the style, wit and sheer entertainment that his company New Adventures brought to Swan Lake, The Car Man, Edward Scissorhands and Sleeping Beauty.
