July back and relax... N ormally a month filled with hot and hectic goings-on, July this year should hopefully be a chilled out affair. Here, sit back, relax, sip this cocktail we've just prepared with Tom Cruise-like skill, and calm down. Reason is, we've got July all planned out for you.
We don't mean to sound like a controlling parent there, and we certainly don't expect you to do well in exams, stop playing with that Rebecca down the road (she's a bad influence), go to university and definitely
become to doctor to makes us proud. Oh no. All we want for you is to have a nice month, having all the options for events, shows, experiences, festivals, and outings laid out before you.
Contained herein you shall find the best of the best (of the best) stuff going on in our gorgeous city during the month of July (a month named for a Roman Emperor, but which usually behaves like a lovesick teenager). YORK MUSIC FORUM "SUMMER SHOWCASE" • 4TH JULY York Music Forum brings a showcase of their many musical talents. From beautiful choirs and exceptional jazz to the Stagecentre concert band. STRICTLY HAPPY• 15TH JULY The Bev Jones Music Company brings you all the old faces, plus some new ones too, with a bright, happy show full of fun and summer sunshine. a ruthless murder at Mark’s Priory, the grand ancestral home of the Lebanon family, he quickly discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. THE CARPENTERS STORY • 26TH JULY This highly acclaimed concertstyle production continues to captivate audiences across the UK with its spectacular re-creation of the classic songbook that made The Carpenters a legend in the world of popular music. STEPHEN JOSEPH THEATRE Scarborough, Visit www.sjt.uk.com THE 39 STEPS • 21ST JUNE-23RD AUGUST A brilliant, fast-moving spoof including legendary scenes such as the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape from the Forth Bridge, the first ever theatrical bi-plane crash and a deathdefying (well nearly) finale. BUILD A ROCKET • 24TH JULY-8TH SEPTEMBER Yasmin is young and feisty and lives on the edge. A young mum, her Scarborough isn’t sandcastles, arcades and donkey rides. She’s been dealt a rough hand and has to decide whether to give in or get smart. An explosive portrait of a young heroine of our times. JOKING APART • 26TH JULY-4TH OCTOBER For Richard and Anthea everything in life just falls into place. With their warmth, careless charm, generosity and business success they are a truly golden couple. They invite their friends to celebrate with them over the years. Perhaps it’s inevitable that the others suffer by comparison. Quiet misery, unrequited love and jealousy play their part in this painfully funny comedy. JOHN COOPER STUDIO THEATRE, 41 MONKGATE Visit www.41monkgate.co.uk FOLLIES • 6TH-15TH JULY Follies
SHAKESPEARE'S ROSE THEATRE, EYE OF YORK
www.shakespearesrosetheatre.com 25TH JUNE-2ND SEPTEMBER Four of William Shakespeare’s greatest plays will be performed in repertory over the 10-week summer season: Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Richard III. focuses on two unhappily married couples attending a reunion for veteran performers of the Weismann’s Follies, a 30’s musical revue, in an old theatre that’s about to be demolished. FUNNY GIRL • 23RD-28TH JULY Funny Girl brought global fame to Barbara Streisand 50 years ago. This ‘exhilarating’ musical tells the story of Fanny Brice, whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star. YORK BARBICAN Visit www.yorkbarbican.co.uk THE ELO EXPERIENCE • 24TH JULY The ELO Experience are the world’s foremost tribute to The Electric Light Orchestra. With a sensational string section, a stunning light show and large screen projection to further enhance the experience, why not come along and enjoy this incredible show? CASTLE HOWARD Visit www.castlehoward.co.uk THE GREAT GATSBY •11TH-15TH JULY Originally created in York by writer and director Alexander Wright, this unique production has now performed to over 50,000 people in eight locations across the UK and Ireland. As London’s longest running immersive theatre show, this is a rare opportunity to experience this cult piece of theatre as it visits Castle Howard for one week only.

Work in York
We think this is the best job in the world (or at least York)
MEDIA SALESPERSON REQUIRED We are looking for an experienced salesperson to join our small, but perfectly formed team in York. Your Local Link as a trusted magazine and brand that has come through your door every month for the past 15 years. Selling for a well-respected brand, one known and trusted locally, could give you the step up your career needs. We offer a very stable environment – most of our sales people have been with us for over 5 years. We pay very well – our bonus potential is regarded as outstanding.
Perhaps a reason why our sales people tend to stay. We have market leading products – not having to compete on price can make your job so much nicer. We have been told we are great people to work for – flexible working is just the start. We genuinely care about the people who work for us. Selling across our range of products in North Yorkshire you will have a track record in a professional sales environment with excellent cold calling and client relationship
development skills. Based in our offices in Haxby, the position is mostly phone based but will require client visits as needed. Media experience is not essential. What is essential is your drive to succeed, your ability to hold productive sales conversations that are not scripted, to spot and create sales opportunities, and an interest in marketing and media. Starting salary 18-23k pa dependent on experience. Realistic 1st year OTE is 28-35k.
To apply or find out more information, please email your C.V. with a covering letter to: mim@yourlocallink.co.uk If you would like to speak to us in confidence before you apply please ring 01904 767881 and ask for Dean or Gini. Closing date for applications is Friday 20th July 2018
