Merry
Happy new year! There are many Yorks in the world, including that big 'New' one in all the films, but for a truly enjoyable January you have to come to this one. The first one. That is because the New Year and January is actually one of the warmest times of year in this city... despite the biting cold.
Festival that take place each year at the end of January, when everyone is treated as a thank you for being so nice to our millions of visitors – like you. But fret not: you might not have a York address (we're so sorry about that) but you are still very welcome to sample the delights of everything this city has to offer. Most others cities take a break in January, nursing post-Christmas and New Year hangovers, no doubt. Not us. We kick it into 12th gear and provide one and all with a feast of fun.
If you aren't from the UK might we tempt you with that most curious British tradition of a pantomime? The York Theatre Royal's Cinderella is still performing until the end of the month, and is sure to make you either laugh or look around wondering what is going on. Oh, and how about another lovely British tradition of learning how awful our ancestors were? The York Dungeon has opened a new show – The Vikings – detailing all the ghastly things that went into making York great 1200 years ago. Yay!
