Since our last issue, market conditions have remained largely the same. We are still in a market dominated by the following: • Very low inventory • High demand, especially for “Move-In” ready properties • Further increasing asking prices • Buyers becoming more selective

Many potential Sellers are still sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the perfect time to put their home on the market. This is understandable in a market where prices are still rising, and the question “Where do we go?” is not an easy one to answer. We all should keep in mind however, that the somewhat surprising price increases cannot, and will not continue forever. We expect prices to plateau and more properties to come to the market this season, which will put some pressure on prices. If selling is on your mind, it might be wise to act now. Also, using a professional realtor will give you a better chance to realize more money from your home sale than doing it on your own – even after all costs. We see continued examples where Sellers jumped on unsolicited buyer offers and later realized that they didn’t achieve the sales price they could have.

If you are assembling a cheese board for a party or just want to grab a couple options to have on hand for yourself, here is a quick guide to pairing delectable cheeses with luscious wines.

Fresh cheeses like feta, ricotta, mascarpone, and mozzarella pair well with crisp, light-bodied white wines like Riesling, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc

WHY IT WORKS

Beyond just being delicious on their own, there is a reason that wine and cheese have become a favorite pair. According to www.usualwines.com wine and cheesemaking, “Both often take years of aging to reach maturation and optimum flavor, both require careful tending by artisan producers, and both are often created in similar terroir.” The fat in cheese and the sharpness of wine creates the balance that makes food so enjoyable and there is a scientific basis for why this is such a well loved combination. In a French study, researchers determined that cheese improves the wine’s fruit aromas, reduces the astringency of red wines, and enhances the taste of white wine. Cheese, which is usually high in fat, coats the mouth and blocks taste receptors making other beverages taste dull and lifeless. The acidity and sweetness of a wellpaired wine cut’s through the fat which creates a fuller flavor and an excellent mouthfeel.

HOW TO PAIR

We know wine and cheese work together, but here are some points to be aware of as you select your wine and cheese. • Pay attention to tannins. A natural compound in plants, tannins create a bitter taste or drying sensation on the tongue. Tannins are found in red wines and they cause the worst clashes when it comes to cheese, so pair with caution. • As stated on www.usualwines.com, “like goes with like” when pairing texture and flavor. “Aged cheddar works well with full-bodied white wines like Chardonnay and tannic red wines. On the other hand, fresh, delicate cheeses pair well with younger, fruitier wines.” • Opposites attract. Salt enhances sweet, and creamy foods need a little acid to cut through. Tangy wines are perfect with buttery fresh cheeses, while sweet wines pair with salty cheese like a Parmesan. • Another great way to match wine and cheese is based on location. There’s a saying: “what grows together it goes together.” Wine and cheese from the same regions can be used to create an excellent pairing.

f the last almost two-years of pandemic chaos have taught us anything, it is the truth of the motto, “Carpe Diem—Seize The Day” and that is what homebuyers have been doing in South Florida. No longer looking for just seasonal homes, now buyers are leaving cold northern climes behind them permanently and putting down roots in the glorious sunshine. “Buyers are searching for tropical living, where the weather is beautiful and the outdoors seamlessly blends with the indoors,” says Realtor Angel Nicolas, president of The Nicolas Group, top real estate producers in the Miami area, whose latest offering, a stunning contemporary home on sought-after Brickell Avenue, suits those requirements perfectly. “This home is like a lovely treehouse, with exotic woodwork, lush landscaping, and expansive walls of glass through which one may admire the setting. People have come from all over the United States, Europe, India and even Africa to tour this home,” he says. “There is no other like it anywhere. Cumaru, a Brazilian wood, is used on the soffits and other areas protected from the sun, making the home’s exterior virtually maintenance-free.

Porcelain tile floors, the color of sand, lead to a graceful staircase with a glass railing, allowing views out of the soaring windows. The staircase, ascending to the home’s second floor, floats above a river rock filled courtyard, watched over by a Richard Olinski sculpture of a bronze lion that is the home’s guardian spirit.

Suede stools allow guests to visit with the chef as he or she creates culinary masterpieces with use of Subzero/Wolf appliances, including a 60 inch combination refrigerator/freezer, Asko dishwasher, double oven, microwave convection oven, and coffee maker. A trough sink with a Hansgrohe pot-filler faucet makes for ease of preparation.

Custom louvers (aluminum clad with a metal wood-like finish) accent the storefront ES Windows bordering two sides of this light-filled gathering place. Wrapped angled architectural columns and a standing strip light help draw the eyes upward to the double height ceiling. A monochrome sectional and matching chairs are set on a tone-on-tone area rug so as not to detract from the stylized two-tone wood cocktail tables. Ivory block seats tuck away under the floating bar and add extra seating for guests. A triptych by Ever Borretini of landscape shadows, reflects the views outside, and irregularly shaped hassocks and plum throw pillows bring color to the sophisticated room.

2 cup pecans, chopped 1 tsp. coarse salt 1 tsp. garlic powder 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 1/4 cup freshly chopped chives (or flat-leaf parsley) 16 thin pretzel sticks

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, blue cheese, half of the cranberries, half of the chopped pecans, chopped green onions, salt, garlic powder, and pepper until it’s well-combined and very smooth. Scoop out a small amount of the cheese mixture (2-3 tbsp.) and roll it into a small ball: place it on a sheet pan. Continue rolling into balls until all of the mixture has been used. Cover the sheet pan with saran wrap, then place the cheese balls into the refrigerator to firm up, about 2 hours or until you’re ready to serve. Combine the remaining pecans, cranberries, and the chopped chives (or parsley) in a small dish. Gently roll each ball in the mixture and place on a serving platter. Either serve them as-is (with small tongs) or add a pretzel stick to each ball to allow for easy pickup. Serve the balls with crackers, crostini, crunchy vegetables, or all three.

baked brie galette 1 sheet puff pastry (can sub with one pie crust) 8 oz. wheel of brie 2 cups fresh blackberries, washed 2 sprigs fresh thyme 1/2 cup honey plus more for drizzling

Preheat the oven to 375°F and unwrap the puff pastry sheet. Place it onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Thinly slice the brie and layer the slices in the middle of the dough, leaving 2-3 inches around the perimeter. Place the blackberries on top and in between the brie slices. Fold the edges of the dough slightly over the edges of the filling, encasing all the way around. Drizzle honey over the top and place thyme sprigs in the middle of the galette. Bake for 22-25 minutes, or according to the puff pastry package instructions. If the galette isn’t golden brown 25 minutes into your bake, raise the heat to 400°F and cook an additional 5-7 minutes. Remove the galette from the heat and drizzle with more honey. Serve immediately while hot!

bacon-wrapped shrimp 1 lb. shrimp (about 20 pieces), peeled and deveined, with tails still on 7 pieces of thickcut bacon, cut into thirds

4 tbsp. butter, melted 2 tbsp. maple syrup 1 tbsp. chili powder fresh lime juice

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Arrange bacon slices on an oven safe rack that has been placed on a baking sheet. Bake 5 to 10 minutes depending on the thickness of your bacon. It should still be pliable when you remove it from the oven. While the bacon is cooking, combine butter, maple syrup, and chili powder in a small bowl. Once cool enough to handle, wrap one slice of partially cooked bacon around one raw shrimp, securing with a toothpick, and place on the oven safe rack. Repeat with remaining shrimp. Brush shrimp with about half of the maple butter. Bake 7-8 minutes more until shrimp are pink and bacon is cooked through and then bush with remaining maple butter and broil for 3 minutes. Remove from oven and squeeze fresh lime juice for some added brightness.

8-9 fresh basil leaves

1 cup small tomatoes

2-3 oz. high quality olive oil

4-5 cloves of garlic (2 minced, 2-3 whole)

sea salt, to taste crushed pepper, to taste

Halve the tomatoes. Chop fresh basil leaves into thin strips, and mince 2 cloves of garlic. In a large bowl, mix tomatoes and basil, taking care not to mash or break up the tomatoes too much. Add salt, crushed pepper to taste. Mix gently. Cover and let tomatoes marinate. To serve, slice bread into 12 thick slices and brush olive oil on both sides. Lightly grill or toast them until they are golden on both sides. Slice your cloves of garlic in half lengthwise, and rub the cut side of the cloves over the warm, grilled bread. Scoop out the tomato basil mix and spread on the grilled or toasted bread. Serve immediately.

It features a chef’s kitchen, temperature-controlled 1,000-bottle wine room with LED lighting, cabana, and luxury 30-foot pool with jacuzzi. “This home sold very quickly (in a matter of days) to a family from out-of-town who bought it sight-unseen,” says Hunter, also a residential and commercial custom large-scale artist whose brand, “The Art of Real Estate.” has been featured in homes and offices in Melbourne and beyond. “Kristina and I have worked together on many projects and are good friends,” she explains. “Her style is very organic, and she traveled out of town to find specific design pieces, such as lighting fixtures and furniture, for example, which are beautiful.” Both Kristina and the (previous) owner deserve all the credit for the wonderful, unique furnishings and details in the home, explains Hunter. Although Hunter did not personally incorporate her artwork into the estate (which was sold fully furnished), she has installed artwork via her company, Elizabeth Hunter Studios, in other homes for which she was the listing agent. “The seller’s personal art collection and taste complimented the design of the residence—vibrant artwork that really pops,” Hunter adds. K2 Living Well was involved with this new-construction home (and its new prior owners) from the very start, and Kitsopoulos’ overall goal was “to take my client’s vision, customize, design and create to bring it to fruition.” This is actually the third home that K2 Living Well has designed for this client. Some of the more challenging or unique aspects of the project were the customization, one-of-a-kind handmade products, and personalized details. Her favorite room? “The wine tasting room!”

An attractive coffee table with wood inlay brings the focus to the center of the room. “With the added vaulted ceiling, we were able to incorporate triple beams, brick wall veneer, a linear fireplace, fabulous rustic chandelier, and comfortable furnishings,” Kitsopoulos says. “The furniture was custom-ordered through Indian River Furniture, Arhaus, and Restoration Hardware.” The steel and crystal chandelier introduces elegance, while an inviting indoor/outdoor pool beckons on a hot, sunny day.

S PI R I T E D S E N SAT I O N “This room is typically a dining room space, but my clients preferred a wine room,” explains designer Kitsopoulos. “Being wine connoisseurs, they liked to entertain dear friends in their wine group and savor various wines from their travels. Now, that tradition will be passed along to the new owners.” An elongated lacquered custom black and tan live-edge, high-top table, custom animal print cowhide bar stools, and a contemporary black and chrome chandelier all serve to infuse a unique feel. The walls carry the same color scheme as the table, chairs, and trim around the windows, tying the space together. Caviar-painted cabinets with copper hardware and a convenient bar sink add to the perfect setting for sampling vintages—and encouraging lively conversation. The custom, climate-controlled wine storage room spotlights a stone veneer wall and metallic faux finish behind the vast number of wine storage racks. The wine room is truly a conversation piece that’s demonstrative of Kitsopoulos’ creativity.

A wallmounted floating vanity in Carrara Marble by Stone Forest with matching mirror and shelf set the stage for the metallic textured tile wall backdrop from ProSource of Brevard, which provides great contrast to the marble vanity. The burnished copper floor adds to the modern feel. A mesmerizing starburst chandelier from Veraluz “illuminates all the glitter sheen of the tiles,” explains Kitsopoulos. ‘Tis the season to celebrate and decorate. The holidays give us a mid-winter reason to shake off the doldrums and let our homes reflect just how special this time of year can be. With that in mind, here are some of the upcoming design and décor trends for 2021.

Rustic & Farmhouse There are so many ways to bring a little farmhouse to your house. Put an old rocking chair or garden bench, adorned with a colorful pillow and a checked throw, near your front door to symbolically suggest neighbors come in and “set a spell” over the holidays. Grapevine wreaths (even asymmetrical half-wreaths are in this year) may introduce plaid ribbons, which don’t have to match in color or size of the pattern. Any craft store will offer antique-looking metal milk cans to host fresh pine boughs to scent your living areas. Baskets of pinecones help too. Bottlebrush animal ornaments can decorate not only your tree, but can be used in surprising areas, like bathrooms, to add rustic cheer. Use burlap as an accent on your table and wooden napkin rings to hold unbleached cotton napkins. If you have a fireplace, light it often to help create memories for the loved ones gathered around it.

Creamy Whites, Warm Golds, & Shiny Silvers Christmas celebrates the birth of ‘The Light of the World.’ Chanukah recalls the miracle of the oil lamps burning for eight days when there was only oil enough for one. During the holiday season, it’s only fitting that we bring light into our own homes by using shades of creams and whites, with gold and silver accents. Use candles lavishly and in varying heights and textures to add interest. Think pillars and tea lights in gold-toned cut-out candleholders, mixed with silver candelabras in the center of your table. Set out your grandmother’s white bone china on silver chargers and use gold-toned flatware. Real crystal ref lects the light beautifully so set out your wine glasses and salt shakers. Entwine a tinsel garland with the pine boughs wrapping a banister. Add gold and silver ornaments, not only to the tree, but fill clear glass vases. Include a few of these ornaments in a dazzling wreath to welcome guests at the front door. Throw out your old tree skirt and use a creamy cable-knit throw or an inverted metal tub, sprayed in glossy metallic, to hold the tree this year. For Chanukah, don’t stop at one menorah. Start a collection (art museum gift shops offer many styles.) Fill them with gold and silver candles each night and scatter them throughout the public areas of your home.

Sustainable Nature With everyone more eco-conscious this year, sustainable, natural, and recyclable have all become bywords for this holiday season. Buy a tree in a pot this year so you can plant it in your yard after Christmas. Or if you get a traditional tree, make sure to take it out back and create a bird and wildlife sanctuary out of it after the holiday. (Medium.com has some great suggestions on how to do this) Or say ‘no’ to a tree and use only fresh pine boughs as decoration and wrap the gifts not in paper, but in furoshiki fabric wraps or cloth gift bags and let those colorful things be the decorating focus. Wreaths, mantle décor, and garlands should be of flowers and other real botanicals. Kwanzaa celebrates the first fruits of the harvest, so take your cue from that holiday and use dried oranges, berries, whole nuts, branches, and dried botanicals for your centerpiece and arrangements. If you are a crafter, make your own ornaments and decorations, or visit craft fairs, support local businesses or artisans on Etsy. Or help global charitable initiatives by buying ornaments from organizations like UNICEF or Ornaments for Orphans who use the proceeds to improve the lives of people who have far less than we do.

Playful and Magical It’s not only kids who get excited by the magic of the holidays. Adults can get in on the fun, too. Let the wonder of a child’s eyes be your guide to creating a fairyland atmosphere in your home this year. Reds and greens needn’t dominate. Think aqua, and lavender, and, of course, pink. Use these colors as your theme and whimsical touches as your guiding star. Pink tulle can mimic cotton candy on your mantelpiece. Feathers of fantastical shades can be displayed in vases all over your home. Use ‘fairy lights’, draping them on your outside hedges and trees and inside around mirrors, mantels, and picture frames. Battery-powered

lights look fantastic on your wreaths, which should be sherbet colors themselves. Seek out ornaments of legendary creatures like unicorns, mermaids, dragons, and angels. Take some measurements and visit a fabric store. Head for the luxe section (it’s like visiting Aladdin’s cave) and find the perfect fabric for your tablecloth. Silver tissue, rose gold chiffon, or printed faux silk are some suggestions. Richly hued velvet pieces can cover small tables or the top of your buffet. Put out bowls of Christmas candy (called cut rock Christmas candy, found online) to add color and sweetness at every turn. Find a performance of The Nutcracker Suite ballet to show after Christmas Eve dinner and your magical Christmas will be complete. If you are celebrating Chanukah, wrap each night’s gifts in different colored metallic papers (with huge bows) and stock up on the gold foil gelt to win when you are playing dreidel. The chocolates contained within may not be the best tasting, but the wrapping is shiny, and raking in a huge pile when you win is lots of fun.

Retro Nostalgia Start scouring your great aunt’s attic and every antique store you can find because retro is back. The bywords of this nostalgic holiday theme are cozy, comfortable, and warm, so break out your softest throws and make sure everywhere a guest has one as well. Add colorful pillows for relaxing (or a quick nap), and make sure everyone has a place to put their feet up. Find the old family stockings (or ones that remind you of your own childhood) and hang them from the mantel. No mantel? A bookcase will do and brass weighted hooks for each stocking are a great idea. Use the traditional colors of reds, greens, and whites, and use the colors everywhere. A cherry red tablecloth with an embroidered runner and special dishes, like the ones found on page 16, can create the perfect, nostalgic table. Tartan bows with pine branches liven up the banister and a pine wreath can be accessorized with bright red cardinals and small shiny ornaments for a retro look. Use f locked snow sprayed in the corners of your windows and on the edges of your tree boughs if you are so inclined. Tinsel is back too, either hung perfectly strand by strand on each brand or via a garland around the tree. Or create a garland like when you were a kid of popcorn and cranberries. Scour eBay for vintage ornaments, bubble lights, and rock candy bulbs. Get every guest a pair of fuzzy slippers or matching long-john pajamas if they are staying over. Put Bing Crosby’s Christmas album on the CD player, or watch A Christmas Story and pass around big bowls of buttered popcorn.

Traditional Some things never go out of style and traditional holiday décor is one of them. Start your decorating outside. Line your front walk with luminaries (use real candles or, if you are concerned about children or an unsteady elder, use flickering LED lights in them.) Adorn your railings and front door with fresh pine boughs and a wreath. Most Christmas tree sellers can provide you with branches or premade wreaths so make sure you ask. Put small matching ring wreaths in each front-facing window of your home and an LED flickering candle in each window. Less is more in a traditional Christmas so pick items that are elegant and understated. A red or green velvet tree skirt is a lovely touch and white lights on the tree create a soft ambiance. If you have a fireplace, use it as a decorating element and have a cheerful blaze burning as often as possible. Put pinecones and scented wood, stored in a brass or pewter bucket, and an embroidered hearth rug out for a homey touch. Put out bowls of whole nuts with silver nutcrackers and picks, and hang fresh mistletoe from door archways. Use a white lace tablecloth and napkins hemmed in lace to match. A sprig of holly tucked under each napkin rings lends a festive touch. A gold embroidered runner on your buffet table is an elegant touch and for a real, traditional look, scour antique stores for vintage serving utensils and pieces like a salt dish and cut crystal sugar bowls. This is the time to break out the small butter knives, olive spears which may have graced your mother’s table. If you are fortunate to have real silver, get polishing and use the whole set for your Christmas dinner. Have your favorite florist shop make custom centerpieces that include fresh pine, carnations or roses, and sprigs of holly around a pillar candle in hurricane glass. Display a vintage Nativity scene prominently. If it is a family heirloom, all the better. Otherwise, perhaps you’d like to start a tradition by ordering a Fontanini set from Italy. Put out crisp linen hand towels in the guest bathroom with handmade scented soap (bayberry is traditional) and keep a pot of water with vanilla and cinnamon sticks simmering in your kitchen to set a mood. Part of the décor of the holidays must be heard rather than seen. Investigate if there are caroling groups in your community and invite them to sing at your front door for one of your holiday gatherings. Traditional acoustic carols played softly in the background won’t interfere with guest’s conversations and a wassail bowl (find a large silver one only) filled with punch or eggnog will be a great start to those talks. Top your tree with a simple Christmas star and, as you place it, make a wish for peace on earth, goodwill towards us all.

A P L E S I S A T R A N S I E N T C I T Y. People come and go seasonally as well as moving from condos to single family homes, from beachfront properties to Golf communities. Change in real estate is a constant for many residents, including the owners of this single family home in North Naples. After a few years of visiting seasonally, the Siegals we ready to spend more time in the area and felt they were ready to upgrade to a larger home, one that would fit their growing family as children marry and grandchildren are added to the family. They loved the location of their original Naples home, in Tiburón, and wanted to find a new one close by to keep them near the many friends they had made in

the community. Luckily, through a few fortuitous events, they were able to purchase a lot in an adjacent community that backs up to Tiburón on the other side of a private preserve. Homeowner Bonnie Siegal says, “The lot is one of the biggest in the community. It’s over half an acre so we knew when we purchased it we wanted to create an outside area that took advantage of all the space the lot provides.” During the building process, the Siegals were unable to see a model, so they built the home “sight unseen” so to speak, going off of plans, small samples, and their imagination. When it was finished, they were happy with the neighborhood and the home’s layout (for the most

The home’s exterior received new landscaping to create a look that better suits the inside of the home and the Siegals’ personal tastes, thanks to Jeff Edwards, the founder, owner, and lead designer at Bloomwater. “As you approach the home, Bonnie wanted the landscaping to better reflect the design inside,” says Edwards. “I came up with a plan that is cohesive with clean and contemporary lines. This lends a less tropical and more modern feel to the home’s exterior.” This look is achieved through the vegitation Edwards chose as well as custom planters that feature a mix of cement and metal that contrasts with the natural landscape. An inlay of artificial turf in the driveway also makes the beds appear larger and more substantial than they originally were for a highend look. Topiary gives height and balance but has been sculpted in a more modern, square shape.

part), but felt that the finishes weren’t up to their standard or those found in their other residence. “We talked about a variety of different options but ultimately decided to renovate our newly completed home,” says Siegal. That led them to their second renovation in about as many years. Partnering with friend and designer Jacque Lindstrom, owner and lead designer at LS Lindstrom LLC, and Wayne Wisher from Silver Dollar Construction, they set out to create a

customized home that perfectly reflects the Siegals’ personal style. “Jacque and I had recently worked together on our home up North and I enjoyed working with her through that process,” explains Siegal. “I knew I wanted her help with my Florida home. Also, with that last project still fresh in my mind, I was able to take what I had learned about renovation and apply it to this new project.” The end result is a contemporary glamorous space that represents the owner’s style and personality.

One of the biggest changes in the entry is the decorative wall Jacque Lindstrom designed. “There was a skinny, somewhat awkward wall here so I wanted to create a visual piece that gave the formal dining room a little separation while also adding something to the home,” says Lindstrom. The focal point of the entryway, and the home as a whole, is it’s unique lighting elements chosen by Siegal. The beautiful John Richard chandelier features gold branches dripping with glass leaves and is complemented by the gold painted tray ceiling. “The color is really fabulous and is completely custom,” says both Lindstrom and Siegal. “It took quite a while to get that color correct and it was a process to create the layers that make the tone so unique.” On the wall, a photo taken by Siegal’s husband, an avid photographer, adds a pop of color and a personal touch to the home.

The dining room is bright and open with neutral colors complemented by blue and gold. The large table features a sturdy base of polished gold topped with glass to keep the room open and modern. Throughout the home, Siegal sourced the accessories, like the cobalt blue bowls that top the table. Above, a second John Richard chandelier references the one in the entry while offering a different take on the natural, yet glamorous mix of gold and glass. “The photos here were also taken by my husband, as are most of the photos throughout the house,” says Siegal. “He’s a retired surgeon who has always loved photography and we both wanted to feature his work in our new home to personalize the space. It also helps us create a more contemporary feel in our Naples home, which was something we really wanted as we worked with Jacque.”

“The Siegals wanted to create a home that reflected their impeccable personal style while also offering their family a place to gather,” says Lindstrom. The great room features a large sectional covered with comfortable, custom pillows, and two elegant Italian leather chairs with swooping lines. Behind the TV, the focal wall has been covered in a textured, navy blue wallpaper that is extended behind the lit, built-in shelves which helps the beautiful accessories pop. “The TV stand, from FreeMarc, is a great example of how elements in the home that weren’t fully ‘custom’ were customized to fit the tastes of the homeowners,” Lindstrom explains. “The original top and legs were too dark and so I had them replaced so they perfectly match the silver of the doors for a more cohesive look.” The large chandelier in the room continues the home’s theme of amazing lighting. “Bonnie approaches design with intelligence and a great sense of personal style, so as she chose things for the home, especially the lighting, my only job was to make sure they fit the scale of the room. Many times homeowners, or even designers, will pick lighting that’s too small for the space. I was there to advise her on dimensions as she made her selections but I loved the lighting she was choosing so I was more than happy to sign off on her selections!”

After removing the original cabinets, fixtures, and appliances, Lindstrom was able to start with a blank slate to create a kitchen filled with high-end finishes and a design that is functional as well as beautiful. She says, “Functionality is a hallmark of my kitchen design. I always create spaces that are both workable and beautiful, so this kitchen is no exception.” The island was reworked to help with the flow and was designed to be a more visually pleasing piece. Topped with thick Cristallo quartzite, it has a weight to it that anchors the kitchen. A unique enameled steel hood with polished brass accents is flanked by custom cabinets designed by Lindstrom. Above the island, Lindstrom selected pendants that fill the airspace creating a dramatic effect. “The light in the kitchen needed to work with the beautiful custom hood while not fighting with the other great selections in the home,” says Lindstrom. Sub Zero and Wolf appliances complete this chef-inspired kitchen.

In the master bedroom, the furniture by Baker caused a bit of a delay. “We were ordering so many things during the height of the pandemic that we experienced some hold ups that no one could have predicted,” Siegal explains. While the dresser and side tables were finished and ready to be delivered, the hardware was held up for months. Once they arrived however, they worked perfectly with the soft blue, padded headboard and the subtle sunburst wallpaper. Custom bedding from Clive Daniel and a beautiful silk rug add luxurious texture to the room. On the ceiling, a custom blue paint, created to complement the headboard and armchair, ties the room together.

The master bathroom went through the biggest transformation as the entire layout was reworked and the room taken down to the studs to accomplish the redesign. “We just were not a fan of the original plans on paper, and once we got into the home it was not at all what we wanted to live with long term,” says Siegal. The shower, which had a more industrial scale, was moved to its current location and brought down to a more appropriate residential bathroom size. A new, seamless shower door and the zero edge shower stall add to the high-end feel of the space. The small tub was replaced by a beautiful one from Victoria + Albert which is an improvement in both design and scale. A new vanity was placed under the three windows and Lindstrom added beautiful millwork to tie the mirrors and the windows together for a custom touch. Thick marble counters offer a great workspace and the plethora of drawers and cabinets provide plenty of storage for the couple. Marble and porcelain tiles were used on the floor and in the shower to create a clean, spa-like bathroom.

“The size and shape of the lot gave us room to do something interesting outside, but the open areas are on the side of the home,” says Siegal. With those open spaces, landscape designer Jeff Edwards took one of the family’s fun activities, golf, and brought it home. A four hole putting green was added so the Siegals could enjoy time together, practice their putting, and entertain friends with ease. Marble pavers lead to a seating area that doubles as a dance floor for parties. Shrubs and hedges were added around the putting green and sitting area for privacy, something the Siegals made sure Edwards included in his designs.

The outdoor living areas of the home shine thanks to thoughtfully designed seating areas and beautiful landscaping. Siegal and her husband made a trip to Restoration Hardware to customize the outdoor furniture. Ceiling fans were swapped for a more design-forward look and now match the stained wood ceilings. The outdoor kitchen was customized to create a better cooking experience, thanks to the Outdoor Kitchen Place. Siegal added two burners next to the grill so they could also cook outside (not just grill) and the cabinets were refinished to create a more weather-proof exterior. ClearView screens keep the view of the preserve behind the home open and landscaping touches around the pool, along with water features, finish the welcoming lanai.

If there is ever a time to bake, it’s during the holiday season. While there are hundreds of recipes to choose from, here are three classic favorites people know, love, and look forward to this time of year.

pecan pie 1 whole unbaked pie crust, homemade or store bought 1 cup white sugar 3 tbsp. brown sugar 1/2 tsp. salt

3/4 tsp. vanilla 1/3 cup melted butter, salted 3 whole eggs, beaten 1 cup heaping chopped pecans

1 cup corn syrup

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix the sugar, brown sugar, salt, corn syrup, butter, eggs, and vanilla together in a bowl. Pour the chopped pecans in the bottom of the unbaked pie shell. Pour the syrup mixture over the top. Cover top and crust lightly/gently with foil and bake the pie for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, then continue baking for 20 minutes, being careful not to burn the crust or pecans. Pie should not be overly jiggly when you remove it from the oven. If it shakes a lot, cover with foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minute or until set. Baking times for this kind of pie can vary depending on your oven, so watch the pie carefully to get the best results. Allow to cool for several hours or overnight. Serve in thin slivers.

chocolate truffles 8 oz. high quality chocolate, very finely chopped 2/3 cup heavy cream 1 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract (or 1/2 tsp. raspberry, coconut, orange, peppermint, or strawberry extract for flavored truffles) toppings: unsweetened cocoa powder, sprinkles, or crushed nuts

Place the chocolate in a heat-proof bowl and heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it is simmering. Add the butter to the chocolate and pour the heavy cream evenly on top. Let the warm cream and chocolate sit for five minutes. Add the vanilla extract then stir until the chocolate has completely melted. Pour into a flat shallow dish, such as a 8×8 inch baking pan, so the mixture evenly and quickly sets. Place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface (to avoid condensation) and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Scoop the set truffle mixture into 2 teaspoon-sized mounds or for larger truffles, use a tablespoon. Use your hands to roll each into balls and coat with desired toppings. Now you can get creative, if desired. Coconut flakes, dried raspberries, Oreo cookie crumbs, nuts, sprinkles, candy pearls, etc. To serve, let the truffles sit until they are room temperature. Cover tightly and store truffles at room temperature for 3-4 days or in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Truffles without toppings can be stored in the freezer for three months.

snickerdoodles For the cookies: 1 cup unsalted butter (softened) 11/2 cups sugar 2 large eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 23/4 cup flour 11/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt Cinnamon-sugar mixture: 1/4 cup sugar 11/2 tbsp. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar for 4-5 minutes until light and fluffy. Scrape the sides of the bowl and add the eggs and vanilla. Cream for 1-2 minutes longer. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt, just until combined. In a small bowl, stir together sugar and cinnamon. Wrap the dough and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes. Roll into small balls until round and smooth. Drop into the cinnamon-sugar mixture and coat well. Using a spoon, coat for a second time, ensuring the dough is completely covered. Place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake as is, or to make flatter cookies, press down in the center of the ball before placing in the oven. Bake for 9-11 minutes. Let cool for several minutes on a baking sheet before removing from the pan.
