Julie Centofanti

AVI Foodsystems, Inc. takes great pride in originating the AVI Student Leadership Scholarship to support the recognition of outstanding individual achievements within the University.

AVI has awarded 42 scholarships to date and three scholarships will be awarded this evening. Being a leader is a result of commitment. For AVI at YSU, the scholarship program, which has now awarded nearly $27,000 in scholarship money, is one of several commitments that identify us with tomorrow’s leaders.

IN JULIE’S WORDS:

“With my student leadership roles, I confidently present the needs of our students to the Board of Trustees. My goal is to represent students of all diversities and majors. As I pursue my dreams of becoming a physician, my experience as a Student Trustee will guide me as I represent and advocate for all patients, especially those in diverse and underserved communities.”

ADVISOR’S THOUGHTS:

“Julie Centofanti is one of the hardest working students I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Her passion for learning and serving is evidenced by her more than 700 volunteer hours, a number which represents three times the requirement to graduate with the highest honors distinction. However, Julie is not satisfied with “just” doing a lot of service and volunteering. She wants to create a community of people willing and able to help and serve others. Through her time at YSU she has gone from a very talented but shy student to a leader among her community, motivating others to serve and striving to make every place better.”

IN KOREY’S WORDS:

“All in all, I’ve learned a lot since I stepped foot onto campus; I learned from other leaders that you do not have to be scared, you can make mistakes, and that part of being a leader is doing what you think is right. From these lessons, I went on to be the leader I wanted to be, not the leader I thought I should be or the leader I’d seen in other people. I now lead through my own way, a way that was purely who I was, not anyone else.”

ADVISOR’S THOUGHTS:

“Korey Kihm is a natural leader, driven completely by an internal motivation to contribute to his community. His passion and dedication are evident in everything he does. His leadership in the past year completely revived the faltering STEM Leadership Society into a thriving organization with an active membership and regular slate of meetings and activities. Even in the most difficult of circumstances, Korey intentionally integrated himself into the campus community and has served as an outstanding role model of student excellence and success. He meets and exceeds expectations in every category, and his presence at YSU will leave a lasting impact.”

As I continue to become more and more involved on campus, I will continue to grow as an individual and build even more confidence in myself.”

ADVISOR’S THOUGHTS:

“Adeline is truly a woman of direction. Over the last year, I have seen her grow as a person, as a student, and future physician. As her future unfolds, I'm sure we will be hearing great things about her as a person and her work.”
