Your students will be writing their story spines (outlines) this week. They should follow this structure. Please assist them by floating around the group as they write. You can also model your own experiences using this structure to better help them. If students finish early, they can share their story spines with a partner/you or they can share them out with the group.

Beginning: Introduce your character (you), the setting, and what the main

character wants.

Once, I was… (Who are you in general?)

Every day, I thought of myself as …. (Explain how you viewed yourself and how you wanted others to view you.)

But one day.. (Explain the misunderstanding that happened)

Middle: How things change/the consequences of being misunderstood)

Because of that, (what did you do differently after wanting something new)

Because of that, (what changed/happened because of the above?)

(Optional) Because of that, (what changed/happened because of the above?)

End

Until finally, (We find out if you succeeded or failed in getting your goal/want)

And ever since then, (how did the event in the story change you?)

Title

What is a word or short phrase that you would like to call your piece? Something that represents your goal, obstacle, or main point you are trying to make.
