Mahmoud Aboul Ela Street Kafr Abdou, Roushdy Alexandria Egypt Principal/CEO Mr Justin Blakebrough BSc (Hons) MA NPQH
His Excellency Dr. Tarek Shawki The Minister of Education in Egypt Dr. Reda Hegazy Ms. Iman Sabry Parents of the BSA and, To Whom It May Concern: We are writing to you as members of the Pre-Prep Department at The British School, Alexandria (BSA). As you know the school has been running in Alexandria since 1984. We were all hired as staff for BSA by Mrs. Deirdre Greaney, the Head of Pre-Prep. We accepted our positions at BSA largely due to the reputation of the school and the forward-thinking attitude to education, presented by the Senior Management Team. Several members of staff have been working as part of the department for more than seven years which highlights our dedication to the school as a whole. Throughout this time, we have been successful in developing the reputation of the school within the local community, such as gaining international awards and an outstanding reputation in the Middle East. We are in support of the current leadership of the school i.e. Justin Blakebrough, Deirdre Greaney, Nichelle Jackson, who have supported and contributed to our professional and personal development within the BSA on all levels and we believe they have been unfairly dismissed. Without this strong and successful leadership behind us, we feel our high standard of education will not continue for the local community and its children, who should be at the heart of what we do. At present, we are really concerned about the direction with which the school is headed depending on the outcomes of the ongoing investigation. The situation has been extremely uncertain for members of the school community since mid-March 2020, including salaries being late or cut, budgets being reduced or removed and not having access to administration building and teaching sites. We chose to work at a not-for profit school led by experienced British educators and many of us feel insecure about our position and future within the school. The vast majority of staff will be looking for other employment options if Deirdre Greaney alongside the rest of the senior management team are not reinstated and any legal responsibility or position held by Mrs el Ahmer is not removed. We look forward to an urgent resolution so that the children can finally return to school and we can do the job we are ready, willing and passionate to do. Yours Sincerely, Alyson Yadlin - Deputy Head Pre-Prep Laureesha Fuller - Deputy Head Pre-Prep Gwen Teacher Katie Duckworth
