FIELDS OF PLAY EDITION III PHASE II: EXECUTION The second stage is the execution, which is an intervention transforming the urban landscape by infusing it with heterotopian spaces of play. These spaces act as errors, places of forgetting or mistakes / negative spaces because they disrupt the landscape and change its connotation and function. The fields have to be painted onto the ground in distinct places with machines, enclosing the ground and infusing the urban landscape by with the fields of play.

In order to achieve its full size and extent, Phase II is executed through an urban hypnosis.

The hypnosis can be seen as a big gamification of an urbanist labor project: The participation in urban hypnosis is voluntary, as one has to be willing to get hypnotized, but after the participants are hypnotized, they work without knowing that they work and why they work. They are brought into a physically awake but mentally sleeping state, and their minds are infused with the shape of the particular field they are about to paint on the ground.

URBAN HYPNOSIS Turn loose now, relax.

Take a deep breath.

In and out.

Let a good, pleasant feeling come all across your body.

Let every muscle and every nerve grow so loose and so limp and so relaxed.

Your arms feel limp, just like a doll.

Very good.

Now, send a pleasant wave of relaxation over your entire body.

From the top of your head to the tips of your toes.

Just let every muscle and nerve grow loose and limp and relaxed. You are feeling more relaxed with each easy breath that you take.

You‘re relaxing more with each easy beat of your heart ... with each easy breath that you take... with each sound that you hear.

I will count to 10 now, and sink deeper into relaxation with every step.

At the count of ten, you are in the deepest state of relaxation.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten

I want you now to imagine that you are standing in front of a playing field, the bed.

This playing field has a distinct form and is defined by a border with the thickness of twenty centimeters.

Look at the field precisely. The field is now imprinted into your memory.

It cannot escape from there.

Your job is to paint this field onto the ground.

Stand up now, and go to the teller of secrets.

Open his door, and go inside.

Walk towards the strange machine in front of you: a beginning.

Read the usage manual of a beginning.

Check the paint: is it fully filled?

If not, refill it with one of the containers on your right.

Take a beginning with you, and exit through the garage door. Lock the door behind you.

Walk 78 Steps straight ahead.

Now 19 Steps to the right.

Start the engine.

Consitute the bed.

Very good.

Now take a beginning with you, back to the teller of secrets.

Exit and lock the doors.

I will count to 10 now, and with every number you will be more awake.

At the count of ten, you are fully awake.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

THE SIGN OF TRUTH Signs like this will be found at the fields of play, after the field hast either been found by accident or by the coordinates on the map.

CATALOGUE OF FIELD MACHINES The hypnosis participants use special machines in order to constitute the big fields of play, without feeling that they are working.

These machines are equipped with their own names and protocols of usage and maintenance.
