CITY CENTER PEDESTRIANISATION 01 ............................................................................................................................ CITY CENTER LA ROCHE-SUR-YON

The public spaces landscape design project of the post office, the conservatory, the town hall and the Napoleon museum in La Roche-sur-Yon, aims to give unity to its hypercentre. It plans to return several streets to pedestrians and cyclists. To enhance and standardize soil materials. Vegetate the streets, which are very mineral today, in order to limit heat islands. Promote the dynamics of shopping streets through continuous landscape and connections. I worked on this project within the Pena agency from the diagnostic to the sketch phases.

TEMPORARY LANDSCAPING 02 ............................................................................................................................. SAINT-SAUVEUR WASTELAND LILLE

The wasteland Saint-Sauveur is located just behind St-So train station, near the center of Lille. This temporary landscaping allow to foreshadow the future large public space, designed by the future buildings of the urban densification project. We have landscaping different place such as a guiguette, bocce courts, a stage for various uses... This project is built in an open way, reconciling the curiosity and the activities of the users and our design / construction team.

This open site allowed us to make delicious meetings in a friendly atmosphere, with a team as diverse as united. During the construction, each time we started with a raw material (in particular wood), that we transformed and machined to make furniture. This machining allowed me to better understand how this material reacts, its flexibility, its resistance, its slippage, its reactions to different tools, the importance of finishing details.

PARTICIPATORY PROJECT FOR LA SAUGE 03 ............................................................................................................................................ OLD MIN (MARKET OF NATIONAL INTEREST) NANTES This participatory project took place within the old MIN (Market of National Interest) in Nantes, in order to create a public reception area for the association ÂŤThe AgronauteÂť. A large part of the design was run with members of the association, on site and during the construction, depending on the site constraints and the manufacturing hazards. The building materials have been largely taken over from old installations and next recycled, on the site.

SEASON ISLAND AT LA DÉFENSE 04 ....................................................................................................................... SOFT CONTOURS, THE RIVER RECLAIMED, A FOREST THAT LINKS, IN A COMMON SPACE, FOR DEFENSIANS AND COURBEVOISIANS SEASON AREA LA DÉFENSE - COURBEVOIE

SEINE

This project follows my previous work of understanding La Défense’s territory, and more precisely the Season Island. The question I asked was :’’Is the draw to the suburb of the La Défense’s urban slab, can allow public space to be according with these inhabitants. (That work is online on my issuu profil)

DIAGNOSTIC APPROACH La Défense think as a city

COURBEVOIE

PUTEAUX In reality, a piece of city

Courbevoisians

Défensians

Putéolians La Défense view like an island

Ethnic group

In relality like an archipelago

At the begining of that construction, the business city district should be a mixed between the resettlement to the homeless (next to the second world war) and a strong French support economic recovering, with offices construction. However, the slab’s construction, very expensive, disturbed the parity to the benefit of terciary sector, more profitable. Almost every ingredients of a city centre are present. We can find a post office, police station, cult places, facilities, a central place, the parvis de La Défense etc. In reality, that’s the piece of two cities, divided between Puteau and Courbevoie, which didn’t allow a French city center privacy. Facilities are globalised, coffees and restaurants from food chains, local autorities are out of the slab, into the historic citycenter. As a result, inhabitants get difficulties to invest the place.

Seine

The background map on the left is the Raymond moretti drawing, a Courbevoisian artist. He is one of the few to represent the Seine, actually completly forgotten because of the road infrastructures, overpresent. Another important element of this study is the relation that inhabitants have with each other. The ones on the slab identifying themself like ‘‘Defensian’’ and are extremly proud to live on the slab, while the ones on the earth’s base claim there natural resident name, ‘‘Courbevoisian’’. By analyzing a little more precisely how the Defensians live on the slab, we realize that the Island they define is divided into an archipelago. Most of the apartment buildings have a distinct social or ethnic category or an ethnic group that has trouble mixing.

Louis Blanc street

I used sociologic studies to understand this fact. It has been asked to the inhabitants to intuitively draw there territory. A large pourcent of them started by the outline of the slab, comparing it like the limit to an island, detach to it urban context. This boulevard circulaire is systematically represented. This fracture decided me to used a fluvial vocabulary, according to those islander’s perceptions.

INTERVENTION ISSUES The challenges of my intervention are to succeed in softening the contours of this slab, which plays a crutial role in breaking down the communication between the islander and the inhabitants on the earth’s base. Reconquiere the Seine, fully forgotten, to offer a new place to live. Use vegetation and entertainment as decisive elements in creating social ties.

Two of my strongest interventions reside in these drawings. On the right, I make dive the Seaons Island slab into the Seine, to tie a strong link with the river. The difficulty in that draw is the respect of the standards and the technicality of the work, to make it as realistic as possible for a student work. On the left I decide to plant a forest, or rather a flood zone to remind that this territory is floodable. It is the symbol of a plant recovery in one of the most mineral places in France. The difficulty here is found in modifying the traffic and respecting the galleries and underground networks.

IS THE WORK OF THE SLAB CONTOUR OF LA DÉFENSE 05 ................................................................................................................................................................................. CAN ALLOW PUBLIC SPACE TO BE ACCORDING WITH ITS INHABITANTS? SEASON DISTRICT LA DÉFENSE - COURBEVOIE That end-of-study work is a Season District diagnostic, located close to the Neuilly-sur-Seine’s gates, in La Défense. My aim, in this work, is to understand how the district works, with a special attention to the inhabitants. The urban slab and towers seduced me from the first day on site, unique in France. The slab appear like an element breaking the possible continuity between the life on the earth’s base and le slab floor of Courbevoie. It’s contour, with its various landscapes, are the support of a traffic amplified by oversized road infrastructures, which amplifies this rupture. The work I gave is to reestablish a quality contact with its earth’s base and the Seine, set aside. Draw on the Season central place, on the slab

06 WORKSHOP RE-THINK THE CITY, .................................................................................................................

FOR A LOW CARBON FUTURE PACUCEN DISTRICT INDONESIA, JAVA ISLAND - WONOSOBO

Indonesia is knowing a significant population growth. Cities spread out with urban planning difficulties, over crops and forests. The challenge of this workshop is to bring together French and Indonesian engineers, to propose a development plan for cities, reconciling local traditions and the actual growth. Our experience was made in the Pacucen district, in Wonosobo. Our proposition has been so well welcoming than it has been spread over half of the city.

In our pluridisciplinar group, we decided to divided the work in 6 thematic: Urban densification Touristic development Lightening of landscape Development of sustainable farming Enhancement of infrastructure Construction of a community center In the thematic of the development of sustainable agriculture, we have seen that pesticides are overused and very unconsciously. The repercussions on health, human, fauna and flora are poorly understood by the inhabitants, even when explaining to them. In order to initiate a smooth transition towards more sustainable agriculture, our group had the idea of create a label of excellence, with rules to be respected in favor of ecology, respectful of local traditions and physiognomies of the site. The motivation to integrate this label is economical, thanks to the possible advertising repercussions.

Three urban concepts, inspired by the characteristics and challenges proposed by the site . The first, on the previous page, illustrates an individual housing model, with a private garden on the roof. The green belt is thought as a sharing space, suitable by residents of the neighborhood and open to everyone. The only rule is no hindrance to the animals migration. The second, above, shows a collective housing model, with a semi-private roof garden, which only accepts residents. On the ground, a green belt composed of shared gardens, is open for all the city’s inhabitants. The rule remains the same. The third concept, on the right, is suitable for submersible spaces. It is characterized by stilts housing, which avoids flooding, limits the footprint and allow the wildlife flow.

Close the road and convert it in a smooth path for inhabitants and fauna.

In a hilly context, the carp garden has for aspiration to dialogue with it environment, through overflowing vegetation. The garden of experiences bring up through a succession of 6 paintings, the mixing of knowledge, experiences and skills of the students from the Nature and Landscape School of Blois. Opening out from the train station, in the direction of the royal castle of Blois, the visitor discovers the Parc des Lices, in which is registered the garden of experiences. In the garden, I introduced a structure, made of heterogeneous materials to create different environments. The issue is here to study the plants growth and the type of species that will succeed in growing on the different environments that make up the structure.
