Let’s be Legendary, the Campaign for Lasting Change Dear YMCA Family and Friends, The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas turned 140 years old in 2025, and we are

grateful for the legacy our donors, members, and partners have helped us create. We have come a long way since 24 charter members made a commitment to a Y in Dallas in 1885, and we are excited to share the vision that sets the stage for the Dallas Y to evolve for years to come.

In 2025, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas put in place a 5-year vision for a Y that rises to meet the growing needs of our communities, by offering expanded access to welcoming spaces and offerings, where everyone belongs and is supported in strengthening their physical, mental, and social well-being, lifting not only individual lives but the health of our entire community. Let’s Be Legendary, the Campaign for Lasting Change has a key goal of doubling the number of people we serve annually through 5 signature initiatives: Water Safety: Eliminate childhood drowning by helping all levels of swimmers feel safe, confident and capable in the water Y For All Scholarship Program: Because every person deserves the chance to be part of the YMCA community Youth Development: Keeping children safe, engaged, and growing through fun and meaningful activities Membership, A Place to Belong: The YMCA is a place for healthy living where everyone is welcomed, supported, and connected Sports: Where every athlete plays, builds character, strengthens teamwork, and grows in confidence These Signature Initiatives are long-standing beacons that signify the presence of a Y in a community. Elevating these experiences and positively impacting 500,000 people annually means that fundraising will be at the core of all we do. Ambitious annual, capital, and legacy giving goals will fuel reinvestment into current YMCA buildings, introduction of the Y to new communities, and the growth of these key initiatives.

In the last two years alone, we have seen tremendous community transformation in the communities we serve as a result of opening buildings in Lake Highlands and South Dallas. We have seen the importance of growing programs like Water Safety that taught life-saving water skills to more than 10,000 individuals and after school care that continues to expand to new communities across North Texas, as families’ needs for affordable care rise. And that was just the beginning.

Thank you for supporting the Y. Your time, energy, and financial support have helped us thrive for 140 years, and we are looking forward to at least another century with the people of North Texas.

summer through key capital projects across North Texas. Together, these investments reflect our commitment to expanding access, strengthening communities, and creating spaces where all can belong.

YMCA CAMP GRADY SPRUCE Phase one of the renovations introduced new cabins and a revitalized dining hall, expanding capacity so more youth can experience the life-changing impact of camp.

PARK SOUTH FAMILY YMCA We celebrated the grand opening of the new Park South Family YMCA, w with a modern, welcoming space where health is restored, relationships flourish, and community thrives.

Mike has been instrumental to Camp Grady Spruce’s continued success,

Jim Mitzel has been a dedicated volunteer coach at the Cross Timbers YMCA since 2015, leading soccer, basketball, and volleyball — often coaching two teams each season. His positive energy, encouragement, and passion for helping kids grow and create a fun, safe environment where players thrive. Jim meets each athlete where they are, building their confidence and skills, which is why so many return to play for him year after year. His impact extends beyond the court, he and his family faithfully supported the Y’s annual campaign. We’re proud to honor Jim as our Volunteer of the Year. Thank you, Coach!

CAMP GRADY SPRUCE

especially amid evolving state regulations. When new water standards jeopardized the use of Possum Kingdom Lake, he researched and implemented a compliant—though costly — solution that kept the camp running until public water became available. Over the past 20 years, Mike has helped plan sewer and septic systems for the Pathfinder cabins.

Recently, he’s led efforts for new systems at Ray Bean and the Welcome Center. From drafting plans to working with officials, Mike’s dedication ensures a safe, functional environment. His legacy is lasting, thank you, Mike, for everything you’ve done.

At CCAC, staff see firsthand the dedication of Adventure Guides dads like Zach Goldberg, who go above and beyond to create memorable weekends. Since joining after 2020, Zach has worked to bring the magic back to the program by growing participation, recruiting volunteers, and building lasting memories. He leads a group, advocates for the Y, promotes the program at his school, and ensures every child has a great experience — even driving to campouts to support where needed. On top of that, he coaches sports, volunteers at school, and donates generously. As Zach says, “I can’t quit, I have someone’s childhood in my hands” which describes Zach’s servant heart.

Terri McCoy is a truly deserving recipient of the Frisco YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award. As a committed board member and Chair of the Community Outreach Committee, she leads with passion, vision, and heart. Terri dedicates her time to driving impactful initiatives and brings incredible energy to every effort.

Her outstanding fundraising skills have helped advance Y’s mission, and her support uplifts everyone around her. Terri is more than a volunteer — she’s a cornerstone of the Frisco Y community and a role model whose servant spirit continues to make a lasting impact.

Leroy Wilkerson has been an incredible asset to the Coppell Family YMCA and is a clear choice for Volunteer of the Year. For several years, he has led the Catalyst Christmas initiative, bringing joy and support to the community during the holidays. As a dedicated board member, Leroy has also helped raise significant funds to advance the Y’s mission and programs. His consistent leadership and deep commitment have made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless families. Leroy’s passion for service has strengthened our organization and left a lasting impact on the Coppell community.

We are grateful for his dedication.

Kimberly joined the Grand Prairie Family YMCA board in 2023 and immediately made a lasting impact. What began as a simple idea — engaging teens and preteens — quickly became a thriving Youth Advisory Board under her leadership. Kimberly helped shape every aspect of the program, from research and development to recruitment and marketing. Now meeting monthly, the board trains future leaders and creates engaging events like 4th Friday Teen Nights — held weekly in the summer. Her passion, dedication, and hands-on leadership have brought the Y’s mission to life for young people in Grand Prairie. Kimberly’s work is a shining example of impactful service.

Eric has served as a dedicated board member for the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA for two years and has gone above and beyond in his role as Co-Chair of the Annual Campaign. His leadership has been instrumental in organizing impactful activities for both the branch and the broader community. Thanks to Eric’s commitment and passion, campaign awareness has grown significantly, helping to further the Y’s mission.

His efforts have made a meaningful difference, and the J.E.R. Chilton Y is stronger because of his service. We’re grateful for Eric’s dedication and proud to recognize him as a valued leader and volunteer.

The Moody Family YMCA proudly honors Chris Burton as the 2025 Sam Winstead Volunteer of the Year. In 2024, Chris coached eight Moody Y youth sports seasons reflecting his passion for service and community enrichment. Beyond coaching, he served on the Moody YMCA Board of Management’s Programs and Outreach Committee, led the Coaches Recognition Breakfast, and helped raise $7,500 for the Community Track Meet. Committing to leading the upcoming Annual Campaign and serving on the Leadership Development Board Committee, Chris exemplifies dedication to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, making him a truly deserving recipient.

Kathleen Elliott joined the Lake Highlands Family YMCA Board of Managers in 2021 and has been a standout volunteer ever since.

Beyond her board responsibilities, she’s excelled at recruiting volunteer groups for summer food distribution, donor thank-you campaigns, Catalyst Christmas packing, and more. Kathleen actively networks on behalf of the Y, connecting others to our mission, and even plans to host civic groups at the branch. She stepped up to manage campaign efforts for an outgoing board member and helps identify future leaders.

The Moorland Family YMCA at Oak Cliff proudly honors Mr. Jessie King as a dedicated and dependable volunteer. He is always ready to lend a hand without being asked. Mr. Jessie helps with everything from setting up and cleaning after events to assisting with food distribution and more. His quiet presence and kind spirit may fly under the radar, but his impact is powerful and lasting. His reliability, humility, and heart for service make him an invaluable part of our Y community. Michael Wooten joined the McKinney Family YMCA Board of Management in 2022, bringing a deep passion for the Y’s mission and an inspiring story of service. Since 2018, he and his wife, Nicole, have been dedicated volunteers for the Youth & Government (Y&G) program, with Michael becoming an advisor in 2023. That same year, he led a Judicial team to the State Competitions — a remarkable accomplishment. As Chair of the Community Engagement Committee, Michael volunteers tirelessly, often with his family. He’s also improved board operations by streamlining communication and organizing resources. His leadership and heart have made a lasting impact at the McKinney Y.

Dr. Demetra Jones has been a devoted advocate for the South Dallas community, continuing her late father’s legacy through her dental practice, South Dallas Smiles. For over 25 years, she has provided high-quality care to underserved residents with compassion and commitment. Dr. Jones also brings that same dedication to the Park South YMCA, where she serves on the board and passionately promotes the Y’s mission. She consistently leads in board member fundraising and supports the annual campaign through both personal giving and outreach. Her time, voice, and heart have made a lasting impact — Dr. Jones is a true community champion.

Chris Finetto is the epitome of servant leadership at the Plano Family YMCA, where his dedication spans over 18 years. Starting with Adventure Guides, he led the Plano Mighty Nation, attending countless campouts and monthly events. For 14 years, Chris has served on the Board of Management, the last three as Board Chair, where he’s been a driving force behind fundraising efforts and community initiatives like Catalyst Christmas. Known for his energy, storytelling, and collaboration, Chris is a true ambassador of the Y’s mission. His impact on the Y — and the lives it touches — is immeasurable. Thank you, Chris, for everything!

Steve’s passion for community shines through his unwavering commitment to the T. Boone Pickens YMCA. He doesn’t just participate — he leads. Whether it’s a major event like the Turkey Trot or a small member appreciation gathering, Steve is always the first to volunteer.

From handing out candy at Halloween to spreading cheer at the Downtown Dallas Christmas Walk, he brings heart to everything he does. Steve is especially passionate about the YMCA College Scholarship Program, dedicating countless hours to help students pursue higher education. As a leading donor and fundraiser, Steve ensures access to Y programs for those in need.

AARON GARY

ROBERT ADAY

Aaron Gary has been a dedicated volunteer with the Richardson Adventure Guides program since 2018 and has played a key role in supporting its growth across the Association. Known for going the extra mile — often attending campouts on his “off” weekends — Aaron ensures every child feels included and experiences the magic of the program. He also coaches youth soccer, volunteers with the children’s ministry at FUMC Dallas, chaperones mission trips, and serves as a chief at Mohawk Elementary. For the Gary family, giving back is a way of life. Aaron’s selfless spirit and constant support make him a true community treasure.

Bob has been a dedicated member of the Waxahachie Family YMCA Board of Management since 2004, making him the longest-standing board member with 21 years of service. His commitment to the Y is reflected in his active involvement as a facility member, staff advocate, and consistent supporter of the Annual Campaign. Bob played a key role in launching the Santa Run in 2013 and has volunteered for it every year since. His deep love for the Waxahachie community and his YMCA family shines through in all he does. SHELBY ANGEL

John Holt has been a passionate and committed volunteer with the YMCA for over 40 years. Throughout that time, he has raised funds for multiple branches — including Grand Prairie, Rockwall, T. Boone Pickens, Moody, and Semones — driven by genuine relationships with staff, volunteers, and donors. John is known for his warm conversations and storytelling, turning donor calls into meaningful connections. One donor even looks forward to his annual check-in, proving it’s more than just a fundraising ask. When asked why he makes those calls, John simply says, “Someone has to do it — so why not me?” His heart for service is unmatched.

We are proud to recognize Shelby Angel for her outstanding dedication as a volunteer at the White Rock YMCA. Shelby and her family have been actively involved in a variety of Y programs — from adult basketball and youth sports to afterschool care, Parents’ Night Out, and swim lessons.

In 2024 alone, Shelby coached all four youth sports seasons, making her one of our most consistent and committed volunteers. Her passion for supporting young people and building community reflects the heart of the YMCA’s mission. Shelby’s impact is lasting, and we’re grateful to have her as part of our Y family.

Youth Character Award

Debra Bragg joined the YMCA Serving West Dallas board with a clear mission: to make a meaningful difference in her community. A true servant leader, Debra is a gentle giant — never hesitating to jump in, no matter the task. Her deep connection to West Dallas, especially its youth, stems from her years as a counselor at Pinkston High School and her continued commitment as a substitute teacher.

In 2025, she stepped up to chair the Annual Campaign, rallying board members to lead by example and start strong. Debra’s heart, leadership, and dedication make her an invaluable part of YMCA Serving the West Dallas Community.
