Spare your joints and get an impactful workout by lap swimming! It’s a great full-body workout, elevating your heart rate and burning calories. We provide equipment like kickboards, pull buoys, fins, and more to help vary the challenge and make lap swimming more enjoyable.

50 & 300 MILE SWIM CHALLENGES

Ages 15+ | Fercho YMCA

Join the Lap Swim Challenge and earn a Tshirt for swimming 50 or 300 miles. Track your progress and let the aquatics staff know when you reach your goal. No registration required.

Adaptive Swimming Lessons are one-on-one lessons are for swimmers with special needsincluding autism, sensory issues, physical disabilities, and more - and are tailored towards the skills of each participant.

ADULT SWIMMING LESSONS

Adult Swimming Lessons help participants progress at their own pace. Whether it is overcoming fear and anxiety about the water, developing basic water skills, or working on endurance and efficiency, this is a great class for all levels!

The Fercho Swim School takes a safety-first approach, focusing on small class sizes, boosting confidence in the water, building student/instructor relationships, and allowing each student to progress at their own pace.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS

Parent/Baby: Parents work with their 6-18 mo. baby on floating, submerging, hand/eye coordination, and more through games /songs.

Parent/Child: Parents work with their 19-35 mo. toddler on floating, strength, breath control for submerging, and exiting the pool on their own.

Guppy: Children ages 3+ can begin getting comfortable in the water independent of their parents. Children in this level will overcome their fear and swim independently.

Starfish: Encouragement and positive reinforcement help kids become more confident floating on their front and back as well as kicking across the pool on their back independently.

Froggie: Children will build on independent swimming skills by swimming longer distances and transitioning from swimming on their front to their back.

Turtle: Swimmers will begin to define swim strokes like backstroke, front crawl, and elementary backstroke.

AUTISM-FRIENDLY CERTIFICATION

Otter: Build skill, endurance, and confidence on swim strokes. Swimmers also learn dolphin kick, the timing of breaststroke, and will start to learn flip turns.

Seal: Participants progress by strengthening butterfly and breaststroke techniques, and improving endurance by working to swim 150 yards continuously.

Shark: Experienced swimmers will be able to swim multiple lengths of the pool in various competitive strokes and will be skilled in water safety.

YMCA swim instructors receive Autism Friendly Community Training through the ND Autism Center, designating our school as a Level Two Autism Friendly Community Partner.

FM GATORS SWIM TEAM

Ages 5+ | Fercho YMCA

FM Gators is open to swimmers who have passed Otter, Seal, or Shark, or can swim 25 yards freestyle without stopping. An extra step of registration is required with USA Swimming.

Level Descriptions

Developmental Group:

Participants must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl without stopping and 25 yards backstroke without stopping.

These levels are for those who finished our developmental program. We focus on technique, skills, and teamwork. Age Group 1 and 2:

Senior:

Senior Group levels cater to advanced swimmers, providing necessary training for excelling in competitive events.

High School Athletes:

Open to high-school students looking to stay active and compete year-round.

SAFETY EDUCATION

ADULT AND PEDIATRIC CPR, AED, FIRST AID COURSE

Ages 15+ | Fercho YMCA

This course equips you with the skills to handle emergencies involving infants to adults, covering first aid, CPR, AED, and more. Post-completion, you’ll be Red Cross certified for two years. The OSHA-compliant classes are available in-person or as a blended learning option. Visit our website for times and dates.

PRIVATE GROUP SAFETY EDUCATION

We offer CPR, Babysitter’s Training, and other Safety Education courses at the Y or at your location for groups of six or more, including businesses, friends and teams.

American Red Cross Babysitting Course is a hands-on way to learn everything you need to know about being a safe, professional, and reliable sitter. Included in the course is a Pediatric American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification. Visit our website for times and dates.

LIFEGUARDING CERTIFICATION COURSE

Ages 15+ | Fercho YMCA

LIFEGUARDING RE-CERTIFICATION

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course equips entry-level lifeguards with skills to handle aquatic emergencies and provide professional care until medical services arrive. Course includes Lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. Participants must be 15 by the final session and attend all three days.

Swimming pre-requisites are required. Visit our website for details.

For American Red Cross certified lifeguards needing to renew their current certifications.

Participants, who must be certified or within 30 days of expiration, will take written tests and perform Lifeguarding skills. Limited review is provided, so precourse review is expected.

Designed for youngsters new to the sport of football as well as those not quite ready for tackle football. Geared toward those youth who want to learn how to play the sport, and dive into the rules, tactics, and skills. Flag football is open to both boys and girls.

Focus on fundamentals for children in grades 2 and 3 and refine the skills of children in grades 4 and 5. We will group players by age and/or ability.

JR. NBA YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Winter/Spring | Grades K - 5 | Boys and Girls

Join our exciting recreational youth basketball league where players develop technical skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a true love for the game--all in a fun, inclusive environment where every child gets a chance to shine!

As part of our partnership with the Jr. NBA League, all participants will receive officially licensed Jr. NBA jerseys. Leagues consist of one practice per week with a game each Saturday morning. See the full schedule of practice days and times on our website.

Dig into the basics of rock climbing and learn the “ ropes ” on our 32-foot indoor climbing wall! We’ll work on harnessing, knots, top rope climbing, bouldering, and more!

Join us in Wacky Science Club! Each week, kids will dive into exciting experiments that bubble, fizz, pop, and wow. From exploring chemical reactions to creating slime and launching mini rockets, participants will learn the “why” behind the “ wow ” .

SCHOOL OUT CAMPS

Need something for your kiddos to do when there's no school?

This year we have a new "Camp" themed school out day. The day will be packed with fun activities to keep kids active. Registration is required - please register at least one week in advance! Children should bring a water bottle, tennis shoes, and a nut-free sack lunch.

Parents – need a night away from the kids? Take a well-deserved break and at the same time feel confident that your little ones are safe and having the time of their lives interacting in physical activities and games. They will have a blast in places like the Aquatic Center, Climbing Wall, Courts, PlayTown, and more! There's an option to add a healthy meal for $7/child as well.

We provide year-round licensed care that eases the transition to school. Our curriculum follows ND Early Learning guidelines, fostering children’s development through interactive exploration. Transportation is available to many sites, and full-day care is offered during the summer.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a FREE wellness program designed for cancer survivors who have become deconditioned or chronically fatigued from their disease and treatment. Survivors will improve strength, flexibility, and self-confidence, and develop the tools they need to take their wellness journey wherever they go! We’ll go in-depth on proper form and stretching based on your cancer type, and explore our Fitness Center, Group Fitness Studios, Aquatic Center, and more! ®

Individuals will work with an Exercise Specialist and are invited to enroll a support person in the class with them. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA strives to support the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift towards feeling physically and emotionally strong.

Nestled on 80 acres of wooded property with an extensive beach front on Big Cormorant Lake near Lake Park, MN, YMCA Camp Cormorant offers a quality environment with cozy cabins, athletic fields, horse trails, full meal service, and much more to provide a safe, creative, challenging, and fun camp experience.

Children can enjoy our general Adventure Camp or sign up for these specialty camps: Art Camp, Fishing Camp, Horsemanship Camp, Photography Camp, Ropes Course Camp, Water Ski Camp, and Wilderness Camp.

DAY CAMPS AT CAMP CORMORANT

Ages 6 - 12 | Jun 8 - Aug 12 | Mon - Fri

Day Camps at Cormorant provide a fun experience for kids who want the adventure of Camp Cormorant, while still going home with their family each evening. Not quite ready for overnight camp? This is a great first step! Lunch and snack are included each day.

Members: $215/week | Non-Members: $265/week

CAMP PREVIEW DAY

Saturday, May 2 | 11 am - 2 pm

A week away from home at camp can be a little intimidating for kids and parents, especially if it's the first time.

At Camp Preview Day, you'll have the opportunity to tour YMCA Camp Cormorant-check out the sleeping cabins, walk through our updated facilities, talk to camp staff, ask your questions and imagine all the fun you’ll be having this summer!

WOMEN’S RETREAT

March 6 - 8 | Ages 21 +

Come together in a space of shared community, relaxation, wellness and inspiration.

Activities include, but are not limited to: candlelight yoga, art class, guest workshop, mini spa options, and more. Plus, enjoy some “ you ” time for reading, journaling, or quiet time. Adult beverages and meals to wine and dine are included.

Overnight Stay: $225 Weekend Commuter: $175

BUNNY BASH

April 2 | 4 - 7 pm | Ages 3 - 9

Join us for free pictures with the Easter bunny, decorate cookies, do crafts, play games, and more! A $5 donation is appreciated but not required. Event geared to ages 3 - 9, but all ages welcome to attend.

HEALTHY KIDS DAY

April 17 | 4:30 - 6:30 pm | All Ages

Enjoy an afternoon of activities like crafts, healthy snack demos, sports samplers and more, designed to inspire kids to keep their minds and bodies active throughout the summer.

MOTHER’S DAY AT THE Y

May 7 | 4 - 7 pm | Ages 3 - 9

Honor your mom with a free “ mommy & me ” picture, make a special craft, play games, and more! A $5 donation is appreciated but not required.

LAZYMAN IRONMAN

March 1 - 31 | All Locations

The LazyMan IronMan is a triathlon challenge created for everyone!

Participants will have the opportunity to complete a Full or Half IRONMAN by swimming, biking, and running their way to the finish line at their own pace and in their own time with our top finishers all receiving prizes.

Cost: $35 for Members and Non-Members

SPRING INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE

Get ready for summer with this high energy, team-based, weight loss challenge designed to keep you motivated and accountable.

Choose the trainer that fits your style, rally your team and push past limits together. Whether you ' re looking to shed pounds, boost your energy or build lasting healthy habits, this challenge is your chance to make it happen.

MINI FOOD PANTRIES

Food Pantry locations: Fercho YMCA | Schlossman YMCA West Fargo Early Learning Center | Fergus Falls YMCA

Take what you need, give what you can. Our YMCA hosts local pantries for our neighbors to give and take as they wish. The pantries collect non-perishable foods, like canned goods, granola bars, and boxed dinners, as well as small items, like hats, socks, and personal hygiene items.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We welcome volunteers with all talents, interests and abilities! Coaching a Youth Sports Team, helping with our events, facilities maintenance and more. When you volunteer with the Y, you create a lasting impact on the lives of individuals in our community.

Community members can visit our Giving Hearts Day charity page and make a gift to the Y any time from January 12 through Giving Hearts Day on February 12.

When you make a gift to the Y this Giving Hearts Day, you are making YMCA Camp Cormorant accessible for all! Your gift will support financial assistance for youth in need to attend summer camp at YMCA Camp Cormorant.

Last summer, the YMCA provided over $100,000 in financial assistance to camp families, allowing them to experience summer camp!
