For over 30 years, Bright Beginnings has been a hallmark initiative of the YMCA, serving more than 60,000 children across the Richmond region. In partnership with local school districts, the program equips students with the tools they need for academic success and personal growth.

REGIONAL BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENTS
Students and their families—nominated by schools and community partners—will join us at fun, regional back-to-school parties packed with hands-on activities, helpful resources, and a chance to “shop” for everything they need to kick off the school year. It’s all about making sure kids feel confident, excited and ready to shine on day one.
VOLUNTEER-POWERED, COMMUNITY-DRIVEN
Volunteers are the heart of Bright Beginnings. Their support—from helping kids select supplies to sharing words of encouragement—creates moments of connection and joy. Engaging volunteers strengthens community ties and multiplies the impact of every donated dollar.
