/ MARRIAGE LICENSE /

Legally and Lawfully Married Using a Utah County Digital Marriage License By Russ J Rampton, Supervisor of Digital Services, Utah County Clerk: Marriage License Office Wedding planning is a wonderful but hectic time with countless decisions to make concerning venues, photographers, gowns, cakes, guestlists, and so much more. In all the planning, don’t forget that one little thing you will need if you want your union to be legally binding: a marriage license. In 2019, Utah County developed a completely digital marriage license system. It was the first of its kind and remains a unique innovation. The new 2023 upgrade makes it even easier for couples to apply for their marriage license on their own time from any location. No one needs to come into the office; no one puts ink to paper. Everything is done in four easy steps:

Step 1. Apply for your marriage license online. Access the application at https://marriage.utahcounty.gov Although marriage licenses are issued at County offices, a license issued by any Clerk in Utah can be used anywhere in the state of Utah. There is no waiting period for a marriage license in Utah, but it must be used within 32 days of issuance. We recommend getting your license 10-14 days prior to your wedding. The weeks just before your wedding can be a crazy time so use the reminder service on our website to get an alert when it is time to apply. Select your wedding date and we’ll send you reminders with a link to the online marriage license application. An email comes two weeks before your ceremony; a text message one week before. 16 UTAH VALLEY WEDDINGS // SPRING 2024

As part of the application, you will use a smart phone to capture images of your governmentissued ID and your face for identity verification. The system recognizes many identity cards including driver’s licenses from every US state and passports from nearly every country. The base price for a Utah County marriage license is $50, but state law requires counties with an online application system to charge an extra $20 to fund the Utah Marriage Commission and its mission to encourage a healthy culture of strong marriages and stable families. As an incentive, sometimes called the marriage education discount, this fee is waived for couples who have completed pre-marital education or counseling. To access free resources including courses, podcasts, webinars, assessments, and handbooks, visit the commission’s website at http://extension.usu.edu/strongermarriage. Before you enter your credit/debit card number on the license payment screen you can enter your course code or otherwise indicate the type of education or counseling to waive the $20 fee.

Step 2. Send your digital license to your officiant. After your identities have been verified, you have completed the application, and paid the required fees, you’ll be issued a digital marriage license. You then need to share it with the person who will performing your wedding ceremony, known as the officiant. You will receive an email with instructions for using your digital license. Use the “Send digital license to officiant” link in the email to access the Officiant Information page. There you will enter the email address of your officiant and

click “send email.” They will receive an email with the link to your specific license and instructions for using it. You also have the option to share a QR code or provide them with the officiant worksheet. Everything is digital and we won’t send you any paper prior to your ceremony. If you have a special person you want to officiate your marriage, but they need authority to do so, they can apply to be a County Clerk Designee at https://marriage.utahcounty.gov. Our website also has a list of officiants. If you want a simple ceremony performed by a Deputy Clerk, you can schedule a ceremony to held in our office or by video-conference remote appearance.

Step 3. Have your wedding ceremony. Wedding ceremonies are as unique and special as the couple getting married, but they all have a few things in common. Your chosen wedding officiant will guide the two of you through the process of proclaiming your love and willing commitment to one another through a ceremony consistent with your religious beliefs, cultural traditions, or life philosophies. This must be done in the presence of at least two witnesses. Upon the pronouncement of the officiant, you are married. Following your ceremony, your officiant will use the link or QR code you shared with them to access the online officiant submission and affidavit. They will enter information about themselves as an officiant, the date and location of your ceremony, and the names of the witnesses. After digitally signing the affidavit and clicking submit their job is done.

Step 4. Receive digital and paper marriage certificates. Within minutes of the officiant’s submission, your marriage is in the records of the Utah County Clerk, and you will each receive an email with a digital copy of your marriage certificate. This file is certified through blockchain technology. The next business day a paper copy certified with a signature and embossed seal will be mailed to the address you provided during the application process. A marriage certificate can be used for all the legal things that follow your marriage such as changing your name and qualifying for spousal benefits. Keep it in safe place with your other legal documents but know that you can always purchase additional copies from the county for $10 at any time. The purpose of the Utah County Marriage License Office is to secure for individuals and couples the rights associated with marriage relationships. We strive to provide this public service with the greatest convenience to you and the minimum interference from us whether you visit our website, send us an email, give us a call, or come into the office. The Utah County Digital Marriage License System is transformative by design, not just a replication of the paper process in a digital space. It intentionally changes the way that you, your spouse, and your officiant interact with a government office so that the end service – a legal document certifying your marriage – is delivered to you as conveniently, securely, and quickly as possible

SPRAY TANS: The Ultimate Guide to a Flawless Wedding Glow By Maddie Milledge-Swenson, Owner & Founder of MADZ TANS There is always that one thing that brings everything together. Whether it is the cake topper to your wedding cake, adding that one flower to your bouquet, or finding the perfect earrings to add to your bridal jewelry. This is how I feel about a custom airbrush spray tan! Since starting MADZ TANS in October of 2022, I have helped hundreds of brides achieve their wedding tan goals. Spray tans are one of the best things you can add to your bridal look. I have loved helping brides from all over the U.S. find the perfect tan for their special day! Here are some of my tips and tricks for the best bridal tan.

Schedule a trial tan or

Is a spray tan right

1 two before your big day.

3 for me?

Spray tans are something that must be customizable to you. It is not a one shade fits all endeavor! Scheduling a trial tan or two helps ensure you achieve the exact type of glow you want for your wedding day!

Before getting their first tan, some brides will question whether or not it is worth it to get a tan for their wedding day. After our first appointment together, they always say it was the best thing they could have done! It is the best confidence boost. Customizing the right shade for you should be one of the main priorities in any spray tan appointment. When scheduling your tan, make sure to book with a spray tan artist that specializes in bridal tans!

What I have found works best is scheduling one for a photo shoot, such as bridals or engagements, and then scheduling one for either your engagement party or bridal shower! Why these? Scheduling a tan for some type of photoshoot, allows you to see how your tan will photograph. Then, scheduling a second trial for an event, allows you to adjust or add anything you would like to the tan and fi nalize what you are going to do for your bridal tan!

Spray tan artists should always make it a goal to find the shade and solution that best suits your skin type and tone. Whether it be that you want a subtle tint of color to even out your complexion and bring warmth to your skin, or to achieve a deep bronze tan, we will get you glowing the way you want!

Get your Glow on!

The perfect timing to

2 schedule your tan.

Perfect timing is everything! My favorite time for brides to get their tans is two days before any event or photoshoot and one day before any trip. This is another thing you can incorporate into your trial tans! It is important to find the best time frame that works for you. A spray tan’s life span is typically seven to ten days. The life span of a tan depends on proper preparation and aftercare for the tan. Proper preparation and aftercare can be found on www.madztans.com.

Throughout growing my business, I have found one of my favorite things is helping brides feel their most confident and beautiful selves. I pride myself on being extremely detailoriented to ensure that your tan feels like you. A spray tan should always add to your beauty and never distract from it. Having been a bride myself, it is always important to value how you feel on your big day. I am so grateful for the relationships I have built with my clients. It is an honor to be a part of their bridal journey! MADZ TANS will always bring you an experience that will leave you feeling glowing! Brides who book with MADZ TANS receive a buy one tan, get one tan free deal! To book an appointment head to www.madztans.com.

Where do I start when it comes to my Wedding Flowers? By Jessica J Fox with White Fox Floral

Don’t feel you have to have all the details figured out. Us florists are happy to help sort through options with you, provide our point of view, and give guidance. Weddings are a celebration of you two. Above all else, they are meant to be fun. If at any time planning for your wedding feels overwhelming, look for a way to simplify things. Be open with us about your budget so we can help you make the best decisions. We’re happy to provide guidance on which elements are worth investing in and how to make the most of your budget. Flowers are a wonderful way to add a personal touch to your day–don’t shy away from considering colors and tones that are beyond your broader wedding color palette to add depth and interest. This is YOUR day!! There are no real ‘rules’ when it comes to wedding flowers. Use your wedding day as an opportunity to focus on the pieces that are most important to the two of you, rather than feeling you must do ‘x, y or z’. Make a list of all the floral pieces you want and put them in order of priority. Do this by spending time on instagram/pinterest getting ideas and brainstorming. Find images, colors, and moods that you love.

48 UTAH VALLEY WEDDINGS // SPRING 2024

Remember that we are at the mercy of Mother Nature when it comes to flowers. Iconic wedding flowers, such as Peonies, are only available for a few weeks in the year. To get the most out of your design team, leave the final decision on individual blooms to us. 8 Pick a florist whose style you love! They will help you figure out what you can get with the budget you have. This is the best possible way for them to bring your vision to life. Floral design is an art. Be open to the designer’s ideas and avoid being overly prescriptive in terms of specific flower varieties to use. We find it’s best to provide a small collection of 5-6 reference photos to help you communicate your likes and dislikes. 9 Rather than stretch your budget across a bunch of smaller items, focus on spending your money on highly photographed pieces such as ceremony backdrops or extravagant centerpieces. If wedding party flowers are a must for you. We suggest highlighting only the important guests, such as close family. This makes it easy for other guests and photographers to quickly identify who your important people are. 10 Don’t forget when you hire a wedding florist you are purchasing more than just flowers. You are purchasing a service along with products, materials, time, gas, employees, less stress, and more.

Great! You now have some ideas behind you so you feel a bit more confident when it comes to planning your wedding flowers. Still feeling intimidated by the idea of wedding flowers. That is perfectly okay. You aren’t supposed to know all the things! That is why we are here! We love what we do and want to help you. We know all the things so you don’t have to! Here are some of our most frequently asked questions:

“What do I need to know about flowers?” Absolutely nothing! Seriously, you don’t need to know anything about flowers! You don’t need to know what flowers are in season, what a scabiosa looks like, how to keep flowers alive, or what colors roses come in. That is why you hire a professional florist. What you DO need to know is that hiring a florist is a lot like shopping for shoes. There are a lot of styles and options. Every florist has their own design style. Before you contact a florist, decide if their overall floral design and look is something you love! If it is, reach out and fill out their inquiry form. You are more than welcome to attach photos of arrangements that you love. They can use your photos as a reference when creating your designs.

Just remember that you are hiring us for our work and style. Not every florist loves using greenery in their arrangements just like not every boot is made for hiking. Pick a florist whose work you simply LOVE and your wedding flowers will be a dream.

“How much should I expect to pay for flowers?” One of the most important things you can come to a wedding florist with is a realistic budget. But what does a realistic budget look like? Here is a general guide. $1k - $3k Elopements & Intimate/Small Weddings (bridal bouquet, boutonniere, small ceremony backdrop) $4k - $8k Medium Weddings (Bridal Party, Centerpieces & Ceremony Backdrop, Added Venue floral decor) $9k - $20k Large Weddings $20k+ A Greater Abundance Still need more info? Check out our budget calculator online for more information. Just select the items needed and receive a guided quote. www.whitefoxfloral.com/budget-calculator.

/ FLORAL /

“What do I bring to a consultation with a florist?” Your florist is going to need a good bit of information from you. To make this answer simpler, I will tell you just a few of the most important things. 1. A budget! Don’t forget you are purchasing more than flowers from a florist. You are also purchasing their time, materials, employees, expertise, and more. The labor costs on top of the flowers may surprise you. When you provide us with a budget (any budget) we will provide you in return with what that budget can get you. From there you can decide if you want to spend more or less money. 2. Wishlist of items Your wishlist might be bigger than your budget. That is why we call it a wishlist. This list should have the items wanted listed by priority. We will take the items requested and come up with the best possible options for your budget. 3. Venue Location and venue accessibility times Remember when I said you are buying more than just flowers? This information is important for your florist so they can allocate how much time we will have at the venue to set up, how many employees we will need to bring, and what the delivery fee will cost. 4. Inspiration photos or your pinterest board. We need to understand your vision. These photos will help with that and are also used as a reference when creating your designs. Do remember that you have picked your florist because you love their style. They will not replicate a photo for you. You deserve a design that is unique to you. These are just a few of the important things your florist will need to know.

50 UTAH VALLEY WEDDINGS // SPRING 2024

THE BAKING BLONDE CO

CHARCUTERIE BY RYLEE

SHOULD I CONSIDER A SMALLER SIZE WEDDING CAKE?

HOW DO I PLAN FOR A CATERER?

Yes, I’m a lover of small wedding cakes! I know it might not be for all, but consider a small cake for just the bride and groom! Something the two can enjoy. It’s very cost effective. There is no stress in cutting/serving a big cake and pairing the cake with a dessert table is a great way for guests to pick and choose from their likings! And don’t worry a small cake will always be an eye catcher!

When planning the catering at your wedding, a good rule of thumb is to expect 75% of your guest list to attend. If you invited 200, expect 150 to show up. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for special requests from your caterer! As a caterer, I am always looking for ways that I can customize and personalize each and every event I do. It makes for a memorable and elevated experience.

ELYSSA ANDERSON UTAH HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTIST

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MY HAIR AND MAKEUP FEEL LIKE “ME” ON MY WEDDING DAY? One of my favorite moments of the wedding day is when you get to see yourself for the first time; fully dressed, hair and makeup ready, surrounded by people who love you. In that moment I want to see yourself with the same love and tenderness that your fiance has for you. An essential part of preparing to enjoy that feeling is our bridal consultation. Long before the wedding day we get together to talk about what you love about your personality and how we want to showcase you, we look through all the pinterest boards and inspiration photos you’ve been loving, and we try on styles customizing along the way until we find the perfect fit for you. Our bridal consultation gives peace of mind knowing way before the big day that you’ll feel comfortable and confident in your look!

WHITE SHANTY VENUE

SHOULD I ASK MY PHOTOGRAPHER TO SEE A FULL WEDDING GALLERY FROM A WEDDING THEY’VE SHOT?

WHAT IS A BESPOKE WEDDING GOWN?

HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH TIME TO BOOK AT MY VENUE?

@jacquelbrynn.photo

100% yes! Photographers love opportunities to show you their hard work, and asking them to see a full wedding gallery from a prior wedding they shot will give you a good idea of what to expect for your own wedding day! This can help you gauge the photographer’s style, skills, experience, and overall compatibility with your personal preferences and expectations as a soon-to-be bride. Asking to see galleries can really help you feel confident in your choice of photographer for your special day!

Bespoke wedding gowns are custom made gowns that are designed for the individual bride and allow them to be part of the designing process with the designer. These are one of a kind gowns that reflect their own personal style, fabric choice, and overall wedding theme. A bride can expect multiple fitting sessions while creating the gown. Prices are determined by fabric, timeline, and details added to the gown. If you have always dreamed of having that one of a kind gown and haven’t been able to find it - let’s create it together.

Just as varied as the colors, theme and feel of your day is your timeline and how you want the day to go from the moment you get out of bed until your sendoff. When planning your day it is best to allocate time for everything from arrival for hair/makeup to wedding party photos and any special dances. If you are asking quests to travel for a ceremony and/or reception make sure to allow enough time for those traveling from far distances to enjoy the celebration without feeling too rushed.
