GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Comments: Young Life staff helps us to stabilize our life economically and has worked well for the glory of God because you know that the family, children and women are well supported financially and they help you to achieve our dreams, in one word I can say that when we are staff of Young Life we become a channel of blessing for others as volunteer leaders and even some young people that we will mentor. We became local sponsors

Impact of DGL: DGL has changed my life so much, because I did not have the hope and the means to go to university and university is the universe world that allows free and critical open-mindedness, that also give an opening to the professional world, maybe without DGL I will be an alcoholic, worthless in society and I was not going to have this responsibility that I have today in Young Life.

Suggestions: If I had this opportunity, I would set up intercontinental conference systems for students on various subjects that concern the world and accompany them to find solutions. for example financial security, health security, climate security, food security and World Conflict Resolution based on the Word of God

Future involvement: Be a personal mentor for a student Participate in trainings

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

YL Staff Role: Staff associate in the Great Katanga Area LUBUMBASHI DRC

Comments: It gives me great pleasure to serve God in a dedicated and diverse team that uses innovative approaches to reach lost youth. Working in a Christian organization like Young Life is a great opportunity that allows us to stay close to the Lord in the daily work of life.

Impact of DGL: This program absolutely and definitively changed my life in the sense that it contributed to making me a very useful person especially for my community and my country. I always tell myself often that, if I had not had the opportunity to be part of DGL, I would no longer be an intellectual who today initiates small community projects for the environmental development of his community. I also could not understand the Yes meaning of being a good Servant of Christ for the benefit of the people around me. So my perception of life has completely changed by program. At the begining of the program i was asking to my self what was the purpose of the blog questionnary, finally I came to understand that this accompanied not only my studies but also it formatted my reasoning and pushed me more and more to become very deep in the analysis of each situation of life.

Suggestions: Surely, I find that what DGL does is already great, but if something needs to be improved, it may be to give graduates the opportunity to pursue higher education for those who want to, but also to put in set up a department to follow up with unemployed graduates in order to encourage them to actively seek work or even recommend them in local companies if possible. In addition, once a year or after a given period, regional or international conferences of all graduate DGLs can be organized, depending on the means, in order to capitalize on them so that they continue to be profitable for Young Life. Either financially, spiritually, in resources, etc

Future involvement: Participate in trainings

Anything we can celebrate with you? March 23 was my birthday, and that day was truly a memorable day for me because my teamleaders and club leaders had surprised me by bringing me a birthday cake to my house with young girls from our neighbourhood clubs came in uniformes and dance to my hornor. It was really very nice.

Prayer requests: Pray for our regional DGL conference that we are organizing with the students of my country in the eastern party of the DRC and the Burundians ones with whom we will have the opportunity to spend the moment together from May 3 to 5, 2023. May God make regional conflicts does not affect this program and that the students are all in good shape to learn even more about the DGL program, about YL and especially about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Additional comments: Just say a thousand thanks to all our financial partners and to take together with our USA based DGL team for the great work done night and day to change humanity and especially the youth who are the foundation for a better world in the future.

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Impact of DGL: Yeah DGL did a lot for my life to change, through the program i learned a lot. balancing of responsibilities, finding people to talk to like Mentors, prayer partners. though the program i have attended so many Leadership training of which i have knowledge of how to lead dynamics groups. i have learnt to account for on every expenditure i do, how to budget effectively. all these are things that i have learnt through the program.

Suggestions: i think one thing that i had to find it difficult during my time on the program was not getting allowance when i’m on holiday from school. which was had because ministry couldn’t stop because i was on holiday and to finance ministry activities was very had. So if the board can consider of giving the student the allowance even when they are on holiday so that ministries can not be affected.

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Date started on staff: 2/15/18

YL Staff Role: Communication specialist Africa West

Comments: It has helped improve my life in all aspects. Securing a job in my country after graduation is very difficult. So being hired as an Associate Logistic in 2018 and later accepted as Communications Specialist after applying and sitting interviews and tests has meant so much to me.

Impact of DGL: This program was heaven-sent. The mentor lessons were the key to a turnaround in my life. I am a person of integrity and a good steward today because of the mentor lessons. If I had not been in the program, I might not have entered college and my dream of becoming an Electronics Engineer may have not become a reality. It also reduced the financial burdens on the shoulders of my parents.

Suggestions: If I could do any of them, I will increase the slots in the economic challenge countries. I will create an avenue for vocational training because everyone will not have the ability to withstand academic challenges. I will give an annual test based on the mentoring lesson of that year.

Future involvement: Be a professional mentor for a student Be a personal mentor for a student Be a prayer partner Create newsletters with needs and stories to share with other prayer partners Participate in trainings

Anything we can celebrate with you? I want you to join me in celebration of my promotion from Associate Logistics to Communication Specialist for Africa West. I also want you to join me in celebrating my marriage and God’s many blessings upon my life.

Prayer requests: Join me as I pray for God’s wisdom and direction as I share stories of kids and what is happening in our Geography.

Impact of DGL: Joining DGL has made more progress in my faith life. I have become closer to the Lord, my personality has become more open, and my ability to relate to others has improved. Most importantly, I was able to understand very well what I should do in life and how I should live. Maybe If I hadn’t been in this program, I would have been tougher in character and less mature in spirit.

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Comments: It’s been awesome being a part of a project (i100) where we get to highlight international leadership voices.

Impact of DGL: If it were not for the DGL program I would not be on Young Life staff, nor involved in Young Life. The burden of being the sole university student volunteer in my country was too much if I did not know of others going through similar situations in other countries. It was so so so encouraging to connect with others in Europe.

Suggestions: Being a part of the creation of the i100 program, I have seen the benefit from cross divisional interactions. I would offer an opportunity for DGL students to have cross divisional exposure. Think of a summer staff situation in a different division, or a cohort group about a specific thing. It helps create vision for DGL students for a more global perspective on the mission.

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Comments: I hope to be resonsible for training in my country some day!

Impact of DGL: I was given a puch to face some challenges, to try myself in different roles and responsabilities, to explore what are my strenghts and weaknesses :) I felt like I developped a lot that to DGL program- I received a lot of support, many people invested in me so now I want to invest in others (that’s why I want to pursue being a trainer/mentor/ supervisor in the future!)

Suggestions: I would see what kind of training we provide (sometimes you hear the same topic over and over again), continue with cohort groups (I loved this idea but I’ve heard it’s not longer available) and invested more in trainers and mentors for DGLs (we’ve received recently guidebooks which is super helpful!)

Future involvement: Be a professional mentor for a student Be a personal mentor for a student Participate in trainings

Anything we can celebrate with you? I’ve survived the previous week :D (was very intense...)

Prayer requests: for our DGLs and their future impact on others :)

Additional comments: Sending you a picture from “rekolekcje” we did in one school (it’s like spiritual retreat for students in the lent time- very Polish thing I guess!). Our DGL Weronika (the one who’s taking a selfie) was responsible for organizing “afterparty” in that school with the idea of having regular meeting with those kids during a school year (she hopefully will be our staff as well in the future!).

If you are you pursuing advanced degree, what are you studying? I want to sign up for coaching/training course- it’s not official education btw.

YL Staff Role: Regional Admin

Comments: Great place to work and transition from being a DGL and becoming staff was really smooth. It is sometimes demanding though and usually very unusual ;)

Impact of DGL: Having a mentor (or actually mentors) right now feels so natural and i know it wouldn’t be the same if I hadn’t made the habit out of it during the program. Also, the DGL conferences were ones of the best in my life, I always came back very inspired, motivated and with some new dreams. Some of the take out from that time is still with me.

Suggestions: My heart breaks when I can see people quiting the program for different reasons. I know it is not possible to always pick the right people for it but I was wondering if there is any way to prevent from that. Maybe more follow up with the new DGLs - how they are doing, time management, vision setting? Or (in case of Europe at least) somehow making it more prestigious, so it is a bit more difficult to get on the program? Because in my view this is such an amazing chance for anyone!

Future involvement: Be a personal mentor for a student Be a prayer partner Participate in trainings

Comments: It’s amazing. I very much feel God’s guidance in this mission and can’t wait to see what’s next!

Impact of DGL: The DGL program has developed me a lot - I think my life would be very different if it wasn’t for this program. Especially the meetings with the mentor caused a lot of changes in me, broadened my perspective and developed me. Each new task, role given to me, trust entrusted built me up tremendously. And most importantly, the DGL program invited me all the time to build a closer relationship with Jesus and my faith strengthened.

Suggestions: At DGL conferences, I would tailor the topics more to the needs of the participants. We have countries in Europe at different levels of YL development, and the level of familiarity with different content varied significantly among students who are even in the same year of the program.

Future involvement: Be a professional mentor for a student Be a personal mentor for a student

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Comments: It’s full on, exciting, challenging. It certainly takes time to get your head around all the responsibilities, and learning to juggle them is a key skill. It has been such a great way to build up adults who care about teenagers, reach out to our local adolescents, build intergenerational relationship that would never exist otherwise and introduce teens to Jesus in a real, fun, life on life way. Being on staff is life-giving!

Impact of DGL: DGL allowed me to do youth work while in university. DGL enabled me to learn how to be a leader, understand YL, and put those together. DGL helped me to meet people all over Europe who have the same heart for youth ministry as myself, which really encouraged me. DGL equipped me with the training and skills to enter YL Staff with confidence and experience, which I think was essential being the first full time staff in Ireland.

Suggestions: I think improving the amount that your line manager and you connect would be helpful. My line managers were always overseas which of course made it harder, but it was definitely the area I struggled with most.

Future involvement:

Anything we can celebrate with you? Recently got engaged!

Prayer requests: For our teens in Maynooth beginning to investigate their own personal relationship with God for the first time, for more leaders, and for sustainability.

Impact of DGL: DGL pushed me to pursue a professional career. If it hadn’t been for DGL, I probably wouldn’t have been a professional today because I was a person who didn’t have much commitment to studies, and would rather have preferred to work to earn money instead of studying.

Impact of DGL: I used to work a lot before I joined DGL program and tried to do my best in combining university, work and ministry. It was very difficult, sometimes stressful. So becoming a part if DGL program opened a lot of new opportunities for me as for a person who is doing ministry.

YL Staff Role: Area director (Voronezh)

Comments: I like to be in my place, despite the fact that you constantly feel more responsible, and now I have a family, I need more wisdom to properly allocate my time.

Impact of DGL: The program helped me not to be distracted by external factors in order to be in a calling. During my studies, I had no financial support and had to pay for my studies, so this was a great blessing for me. But most importantly, dedicated people prayed for me all the time, it’s worth a lot!

Suggestions: It is possible to give the guys the opportunity to connect more with the people who care for them, maybe video calls to also know their needs.

Future involvement: Be a prayer partner Participate in trainings

Additional comments: Just recently we did a trip for teenagers and special families, it was a very blessed time! Now we think a lot, pray about how to devote time to everyone so that no one is left without attention.

YL Staff Role: YL College ministry-expert

Comments: sure. that this is an incredible blessing. to serve in calling and to have work among the people called by God to this place. have provision and not be torn to a combination of work and service.

Impact of DGL: thanks to this program, I was able to live incredible student years and do the maximum for God’s glory exactly where He placed me. the more time passes after graduation, the more I realize it. it was during these years that God revealed to me the vocation to serve students (because I could be among them) God gave courage to begin student ministry in Ukraine, which was not here before. a lot of resources have been invested in me (training, accountability, spiritual growth, travel). it taught and nurtured me for the present role and all that lies ahead. I really appreciate it!

Suggestions: perhaps add certain tests to determine strengths or coaching courses. perhaps certain courses of financial management, the ability to postpone. maybe to be more taught about that on local level.

Future involvement: Be a professional mentor for a student Be a personal mentor for a student Be a prayer partner Participate in trainings

Anything we can celebrate with you? I got married in the fall of 2021, blessed to be alive during the war in our country and continue to serve. also glad to be a member of the program i100

Comments:

Impact of DGL: We have war in our country currently, so first of all I am very grateful that this program is still working for ukrainian students no matter what. They still could get higher education and have financial support in this hard time. For me personally this program was a first serious step to an adult life, I learned tk manage my finances properly, got my diploma, had opportunity to devote most of my time for ministry. Looking back to that time I can say those were the best years for reaching unbelievers, praise Lord for his care through other people.

Suggestions: I would maybe improve some technical things about reports and blogs.Give more updated training materials for students

Future involvement: Be a personal mentor for a student Create newsletters with needs and stories to share with other prayer partners

February 2023 Survey

Comments: It’s a big blessing and big honour to be a Young Life Staff

Impact of DGL: First of all this program showed me that God loves me and cares me. God likes what I do. Next thing that DGL taught me is discipline. All reports and blogs make me seriously and helped me to grow up. DGL was like a stepping stone to adulthood. Also DGL program shows me the power of prayers. I know that a lot of people were praying for me, and they still praying and it’s inspires me and motivates to pray for DGL students in my Area.

Suggestions:

Future involvement: Be a personal mentor for a student

Anything we can celebrate with you? I got married half year ago, also I became a YL staff!

GRADUATE FEEDBACK

February 2023 Survey

Comments: I was very happy to become a part of the big family of Young Life! It was my little dream come Yes. There will only be more!!!

Impact of DGL: Looking back now, I can see that this program was a small rehearsal for what I do now on a permanent basis. It is really very cool to work in Young Life, and those skills, knowledge and experience help me to raise leaders in my city, region, region even more effectively. Thank you very much for such a chance!

Suggestions: Speaking for Ukraine, I would revise the student support ratio a little. During the war, the crisis in Ukraine increased, and so did the needs of students and the need for finances. So, maybe I would ask to increase this funding and the number of places for students. In the next few years, I will have several potential students for this program, but they need a slightly higher support ratio to be effective.

Future involvement: Be a personal mentor for a student Be a prayer partner

Anything we can celebrate with you? One of the biggest reasons for joy is the beginning of our ministry not only at the city level, but also at the regional level. In the near future, the city of Yuzhnoukrainian will have many, many certificates and changed lives thanks to the service of Young Life.

Prayer requests: At the moment, I am asking you to pray for 3 things. This growth in the role of Area Director in Mykolaiv and the region. Good luck with my wedding in the coming year - two. And that the war ends sooner and Ukraine wins in it.
