All over the world there are talented, creative young people who, if presented with the option to go to college, would seize the opportunity in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, many are trapped in cycles of generational poverty, cultural barriers, and lack of resources.
WE'RE ON A MISSION TO CHANGE THAT Through sponsorship, Developing Global Leaders (DGL) offers Young Life leaders in the world's poorest developing countries a pathway to a future they never thought possible – the opportunity to go to college in their own country and make an impact in their community with the Gospel.

STEPHEN JOHN LAGOS, NIGERIA National Open University MAJOR: International Relations My name is Stephen and I live with my wife and two children in Lagos, Nigeria. I am the first child among six, and from a very humble background in the slum of Lagos. My father was a low-class civil servant and my mum a petty trader. Even though I was from a meager background, I was optimistic that one day, I would be able to give my family a good life. I gave my life to Christ in 2007 after involvement in street violence that almost took my life, but God rescued me. After a lifetime of hardship and struggle, I recognize that God has used adversity to create in me character of resilience and tenacity. As a minister in the church and the volunteer country leader for Young Life, I strive to set an example and be a role model in my community, especially offering hope to the youth in my country. After laying aside my dreams of becoming a lawyer, I now have the opportunity to further pursue my education and earn a degree in international relations at National Open University. I plan to become a diplomat for my country and ultimately, be a voice for peace.As a Developing Global Leader, I am pursuing a degree in medicine at Babcock University. I hope to complete my degree as the best among my peers and continue to be shaped by the mentorship and training through the DGL program. In serving as a physician, it is my desire that my patients will get to hear about Christ and that I can offer hope when they are most vulnerable.

MABEL CHUKWUDI LAGOS, NIGERIA Bells University Of Technology MAJOR: Biomedical Engineering
My name is Ogechuku and I go by Mabel. I am from a humble but loving family that lives in a poor suburb of Lagos, Nigeria, one of the largest cities in Africa. One of six children, with three older brothers and two younger sisters, I had an awesome, funfilled childhood with never a dull moment in my household. As a naturally shy individual, I am a person with audacious goals. I am told that my character and tenacity speak loudly to the teens I walk alongside in my community. I have overcome my fear of persecution for my faith in my country with the truth of God’s word and have had opportunities as a Young Life leader to speak boldly to large groups of teenagers about the love of Jesus. Truly, I know now that God can use anyone to carry out His loving purposes. As a Developing Global Leader, I am pursuing a degree in medicine at Babcock University. I hope to complete my degree as the best among my peers and continue to be shaped by the mentorship and training through the DGL program.
