Dear Friend, God has given us a powerful tool and a tremendous opportunity in Developing Global Leaders (DGL). We are witnessing its compounding impact throughout the developing world. The Lord of the harvest is raising up dynamic men and women from within every field, and we are reaching countless kids who were previously unreached. Many of these kids are trusting Jesus, and His transforming power is working its way through their lives, their families and their communities. I am deeply grateful for our generous friends who invest in these indigenous leaders and empower them to change the world.

A FULL RIDE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP CHANGES EVERYTHING All over the world there are talented, creative young people who, if presented with the option to go to college, would seize the opportunity in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, many are trapped in cycles of generational poverty, cultural barriers, and lack of resources.
WE'RE ON A MISSION TO CHANGE THAT Through sponsorship, Developing Global Leaders (DGL) offers Young Life leaders in the world's poorest developing countries a pathway to a future they never thought possible – the opportunity to go to college in their own country and make an impact in their community with the Gospel. Since 2009, Young Life’s Developing Global Leaders program has awarded more than 1000 full ride college scholarships to high-potential young adults in over 60 developing countries.
OUR STRATEGY We identify current Young Life leaders in developing countries who have great potential to succeed academically and in leadership – they have demonstrated "Thanks to Developing Global Leaders, I have more options in terms of work and ministry – it opened up doors previously unavailable to me. In college, I learned to think critically and be more conscientious about my convictions including a lifetime commitment to seeing that youth are reached with the Gospel, challenged to grow in their faith, serve others, and spread the hope of Jesus Christ."

OVER 1000 SCHOLARSHIPS MORE THAN 64 COUNTRIES
Young Life’s Developing Global Leaders program awards 150 full ride scholarships each year with the goal to grow to 250 by 2025.
Nearly one-half of DGL participants are women – a compelling opportunity for women in developing countries where they are often denied access to education.

Since inception, DGL students have recruited and trained over 10,000 volunteers who have reached approximately 630,000 kids with the gospel.
Most DGL students are the first in their family to attend college.
FULL SPONSORSHIP = $250 MONTHLY FOR 4 YEARS With the modest cost of university tuition in the developing world, DGL delivers high impact for every dollar invested.

In DGL, we are convinced that trained, equipped, and well-mentored leaders will play strategic roles in business, politics, and other professions that will not only have an impact on the Kingdom of God but also will bring hope and creativity to the task of tackling problems of poverty in the developing world.
SCHOLARSHIP CANDIDATE NOMINATION AND SELECTION DGL PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
Students are nominated to apply to the program by their local and national Young Life leadership based on: • Demonstrated leadership • A heart to serve their community • Their capacity to succeed in university and influence their community after graduation • A history of involvement with Young Life • A personal relationship with Jesus • Economic need
While in the program, students are expected to: • Be enrolled full-time in a local university and maintain a B average or better • Continue serving as an excellent leader with Young Life • Replicate their impact by recruiting new leaders • Submit progress reports every six months and communicate with donors every quarter • Be involved in a local church • Participate in Young Life’s Leadership Development Training • Meet regularly with a mentor
RIPPLE EFFECT IMPACT In addition to attending college in their own country, DGL students receive ongoing Young Life leadership training and mentoring. They volunteer at least 20 hours per week in their local Young Life community where their impact reaches kids, families, and entire communities. MULTIPLICATION OF MINISTRY Every DGL student has committed to multiply their impact by actively praying for and recruiting new volunteer leaders. Students work toward recruiting five additional leaders every year, which increases their impact exponentially.

Legacy gifts of $500K or more are invested and used at the rate of 10% per year, while at the same time earning at least 5% on the gift.

These dedicated friends support Developing Global Leaders by faithfully giving a monthly gift. Some are able to give the full scholarship amount of $250/mo while others join together with family members, churches, organizations, or even other donors they may not know to fully sponsor a student.

*While DGL focuses on students in challenging economic and developing world situations, students in developed European countries participate in the same program to bring light where there is spiritual poverty.
A FUTURE OF POSSIBILITIES Nearly one-third of DGL graduates continue with Young Life as full-time staff members, some recently advancing to senior level leadership roles. Others embark on professional careers in a wide variety of fields including education, medicine, engineering, finance, business, legal and social work.
IN MEMORY OF JAMES DAVIS November 1, 1974 – January 3, 2021 James Davis (2010 DGL graduate – Liberia) served as Young Life International Vice President of Field Ministry, Africa since 2019.
